riyanka Chopra shared the harrowing stories of young girls and babies who had to suffer through death and rape before they made their way to the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra, who is on a field visit here, has shared her on-ground experiences from the Rohingya refugees shelters - from stumbling upon “calmness” in the conflict-stricken zone to urging global community to come to their aid.

The 35-year-old actor took to Instagram to document her visit - day-by-day - through posts, pictures and videos at various camps.

“As I walk into the Women Friendly Space at the Jamtoli Camp, I am instantly struck by a certain calmness. These camps are loud & crowded, actually overcrowded, and so to find a quiet oasis, in this case a small hut with a tarp roof and thatched bamboo walls, is surprising.

“But for the girls in this camp, this is what they call their ‘house of peace’. It’s a place they can come and just be. A place to interact with friends, seek counselling, learn about hygiene, or learn life skills like art and music,” Chopra wrote alongside a photograph in which she can be seen having a ‘tea party’ with a refugee girl.

The Quantico star added there are approximately 50 Women Friendly Spaces in the camps, which give shelter to 50-70 Rohingya girls on a daily basis.

She said she met three 18-year-old women whose stories “shook” her up.

“One scarred with memories of houses in her village being burned - she and her parents travelled for two days to get here, passing hundreds of decapitated and dismembered bodies along the way. Another shared stories of young girls being pulled from their homes to be raped and tortured. They even tried to kill her and cut her with a knife, but she fought back.

“How did you manage to be so brave, I asked her... She replied, ‘If you’re born you will die, so I’m not scared of dying today’. In what world is it normal for an 18-year-old girl to have this perspective on life? The third young woman travelled for nearly two weeks on foot through the forest, where her youngest brother died along the way. There was lots of rape and torture back home she told me, and some women’s breasts were even cut off.”

Chopra also shared a video cradling eight-months-old, Shohida and narrated her difficult journey to the camp.

“It’s a poignant reminder of the dichotomy of life... Here she was getting all the help she needed, when just a few months before, her mother, Alada (who was only 19-years-old at the time) walked for 15 days, while six months pregnant with her, to get across the border. It shows us that there is hope left in this world,” she wrote.

The actor again visited Nutrition Centre at the Jamtoli camp in Cox’s Bazar.

“More than 60,000 babies have been born in the camps over the past eight months, so this centre is an essential resource for new mothers to learn about proper feeding and nutrition,” she said.

“While their lives are safer now, they are all still struggling. They know that with an education they can get a job and create better lives for their family, like buying protein for their meals, and clean drinking water. It’s literally as basic as that,” the actor added.

Chopra urged people to send in donations and lend their support through UNICEF.

I dont watch Bollywood but this actress has wrote some emotional heartbreaking accounts of her experiences visiting the traumatised people.

Well done to her for raising more awareness. I will certainly donate to UNICEF because of her plea and work.

Maybe it's only me but she comes across as a huge wannabe.

At this stage in her life, the least she needs is to pretend to be something she is not. Miss world, iifa, stardust, filmfare best actress, padma shri, unicef ambassador, PETA activist, india's representative in hollywood and the recent royal marriage. She is not wannabe, she is awesome and you are jealous and bitter.

I just dnt like her for the statememt which she gave one in past, she said i dnt feel any need for a man in my life except having kids...something like that.....i have heard her other interviews as well....she is too much of herself...its okk...still..

Maybe her lifestyle makes having a man in her life impractical. I've seen lots of actresses making similar statements, not easy to have a family life while in that profession.

It's only you.

Unfoutunatley brother i followed her on instagram & there are a lot of very harsh , criticising & outright vile abuse directed towards her by fellow Indians . This was only on one post where she was holding a baby who was born in the refugee camp . But she seems a strong lady who will continue her good work regardless . I thought she was a hero , a former miss world winner for India , pop star , movie star , one of the only indians invited to the royal wedding etc . Why the hate ? ☹️

But that is the best use of a man, and we all men should be proud of that. Without us, these celebrities can't have kids.

Yeah its completly alright. But if you reverse the statment and imagine if a male would have said that i only want women for children. It sounds very harsh....so i said that...

Why do they hate her for helping people in need ?

Do you think she’s doing a good job , raising awareness & fund raising for helpless people in those refugee camps ?

Good work irrespective of caste ,religion ,or anything should always be appreciated...its not hurting anyone ...isnt it ? Well i am not able to find any logic to hate her...

I saw that post and I think the abuse was more from Bangladeshi trolls rather than Indians.
Anyway she's a good actress and kudos to her for doing such a wonderful job for UNICEF.

You guys should check out her AMA on Reddit. It was a disaster of epic proportions. She kept dodging every important question while her PR team created fake accounts pretending to be her fans asking her very harmless questions.

has she have gone to meet Yemeni kids who are starve

From what I've read she became an ambassador in 2016 and has visited Syrian children in Jordan.

“Reading about the situation and seeing images still never fully prepares you to experience firsthand the situation of the Syrian refugees. These are people whose lives have been in a constant state of uncertainty for seven years now with no immediate solution in sight. And in the middle of this, for no fault of their own, is an entire generation of children who are being shaped by violence and displacement, resulting in an astonishing lack of education and opportunity. This makes this generation vulnerable on so many levels,” said Chopra.

Not sure what your point is and who cares? She must get harrased/trolled/abused in person and online so it's understandable.

It really does seem there is a lot fo hatred towards her and imo this is from the new BJP right wing mentality which has become an epidemic in India now. They can't stand her hugging Muslim children even though they are innocent kids who are living in extreme conditions in refugee camps. The BJP hardliners and their fans are extremists with no heart and soul.

India is the same country which is going to give her adulation and 100's of crores when her next movies comes out...

Internet trolls ...especially right wing ones who are most active are not the representation of India.

the Extreme always have a louder voice...where as the other side is leading their lives and letting others live theirs .

Okay, She acted well...but not her best film. But an inspirational real story...I thought the movie was very predictable and bland as it went on.
