Neymar has agreed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain and is due in Paris within the next two days to finalise the most expensive transfer in world football history, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands that Neymar decided to leave Barcelona following talks on holiday near Rio de Janeiro in early July, before he joined the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

He is expected to arrive in the French capital by Friday at the latest to complete his move.

It is understood the total value of the deal is worth nearly £450m (€500m), which includes wages, bonuses and a buyout clause of £198m (€222m).

Neymar has been offered a basic salary of £26.8m-a-year (€30m) after tax, around £515,000-a-week.

Barcelona confirmed the buyout clause will have to be "deposited in its entirety".

Sky Sports News has been told that a key meeting took place in Brazil earlier last month involving Neymar, his father and super-agent Pini Zahavi, who has brokered the deal.

Zahavi has known Neymar since the age of 17 and has become one of his closest advisors.

A source in Spain close to Neymar has told Sky Sports News: "Since he decided to leave, Neymar has had to deal with huge pressure to stay at Barcelona. His teammates wanted him to stay but his decision was made."

The source added that Neymar had been "close" to joining Manchester United in last summer's transfer market but chose PSG after a further season at Barcelona.

Neymar is expected to join five Brazilian international teammates at PSG, including Dani Alves and Thiago Silva.

The source said: "People will say this has been driven by money, but he wants to become the leader at the club. He wants to be independent, and wants to win the Ballon d'Or. He believes he can do that in Paris."

La Liga president Javier Tebas has threatened to block the transfer but it's understood PSG officials remain "very confident" there will be no issues with the buyout clause.

PSG has yet to confirm whether an agreement has been reached.

PSG are going to be a real force in the years to come, this is the start.

In the past two summer transfer windows the transfer record was broken twice.

Last year Pogba,this time Neymar.

PSG need to keep Veratti and Cavani.

Mbappe is being quoted around £160 million, Coutinho £100 million. The market has gone bonkers.

Clickbait headline by sky sports there. The transfer fee is £198m. Still a huge amount of money of course but since when do you start including wages, bonuses etc in the headline transfer figure?

Insanity. I wonder if this move can finally put an end to PSG's bottling in Champions League knockouts.

UEFA warns PSG 'tell us how you're going to pay for Neymar' as Neymar informs Barcelona he's leaving

Uefa will demand to know how Paris Saint-Germain intend to finance their world-record £198 million transfer deal for Barcelona’s Brazilian superstar Neymar, with European football’s governing body reiterating its stance that financial fair play rules will be enforced.

On a dramatic day, Barcelona announced on Wednesday that Neymar, 25, had told them of his intention to leave and that in response had said he could only do so on payment of the £198 million (€222m) buy-out clause included in the new contract he signed last year.

It is anticipated that the Qatari-owned PSG will pay it in full although the structure of the deal, expected to be €450m in total, will have to pass Uefa’s financial fair play (FFP) rules.

Neymar is expected to earn around €55m a year before tax meaning that the total deal, spread over the course of a five-year contract, could cost €90m annually - almost a quarter of PSG’s current annual revenue of €389.6m.

In a statement to Telegraph Sport, Uefa reiterated its stance that FFP would be enforced, saying the organisation is “exceptionally serious” that clubs are not permitted to make losses in excess of €30 million over three years.

When the deal goes through it will more than double the current world-record transfer fee, the £89m paid by Manchester United to Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer, and it will make Neymar the world’s best-paid player.

His buy-out clause was intended as insurance that he would not leave Barcelona after overtures from PSG before he signed his last deal, although the Spanish club never anticipated that anyone would meet it.

The turning of the tables on Barca, ranked second in the world for turnover last season in the Deloitte Money League, has been met with anger in Spain where the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, accused PSG of state-backed “financial doping”.

He said to Spanish newspaper AS that there would be a formal La Liga complaint to Uefa and the European Union about “the teams that receive economic investment from countries that gift players to their fans at the cost of taking them from other clubs.”

The deal marks a change in the financial dominance of Spain’s two leading clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, who, previous to PSG’s proposed Neymar deal, have signed the biggest names in world football from all over the world. It also has political implications for Qatar, isolated by sanctions imposed by its Middle East neighbours and eager to establish its credibility in football before it hosts the 2022 World Cup finals.

Barcelona are expected to make a further offer for Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho although Jurgen Klopp has said once again that the club will not entertain offers at any level for the Brazilian. Barcelona may yet try to hit back by signing Monaco’s 18-year-old striker Kylian Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid this summer.

Uefa said in a statement that “all clubs must abide by the rules of FFP or face the consequences”. It added: “Uefa is exceptionally serious about the enforcement of FFP and keen that its success in stabilising the finances of European football continues.”

In response to a question about the Neymar deal, a Uefa spokesperson said that there had been no indication from PSG as to how they intended to make the transfer FFP-compliant.

Any deal will be concluded after the July 17 FFP deadline for this season and therefore will be included in financial disclosures for club licensing for 2018-19 Uefa competitions. In 2014, Uefa fined PSG €20m for breaching FFP regulations and maintains that the measures work, with losses across clubs in Europe’s top divisions falling from €1.7 billion in 2011 to €300m in 2015, and further reductions predicted.

Uefa’s FFP chief, Andrea Traverso, head of club licensing, has repeated in recent weeks that the organisation will pursue the FFP measures brought in by former president Michel Platini. While Fifa are responsible for regulating football’s transfer market, Uefa is also confident that there is no loophole that can be exploited by PSG owner’s, Qatari Sports Investments, to circumvent rules.

There have been reports that the Qatari state might pay Neymar the buy-out fee which he would lodge personally to achieve free agency, thus ensuring that any transfer fee was not paid by PSG. There are suggestions he may also be paid separately as an ambassador for the 2022 World Cup finals. Article 72 of the FFP regulations is intended to mitigate against any attempts by clubs to circumvent legislation.

When he told Barcelona formally of his intention to leave, Neymar was accompanied by his father and advisor Neymar senior, who will earn an eight-figure commission on the deal. The as-yet unpaid commission owed to him by Barcelona on his son’s October contact, believed to be around €23m, had been deposited with a lawyer and would be paid, the club said, on resolution of the player’s future.

Neymar was given what Barcelona described as “temporary permission” to miss training and was bid farewell via Instagram by his former team-mate, and the club’s greatest player, Lionel Messi, who wished him “the best of luck in this new stage of your life”.

Elsewhere in Barcelona the response has been more hostile, with posters accusing Neymar of being a “traitor” appearing around the city.

Uefa says it has a “dedicated and growing” department responsible for FFP which is administered by the Club Financial Control Body whose chief investigator is Yves Leterme, the former Belgian Prime Minister and deputy general secretary of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Don't like the transfer happening as a Barca fan, but you can say it won't be a bad thing to happen if we can use the money properly. Get someone like Dembele (no Dybala please), get over the Coutinho fever, and sign Seri or Jorginho. Getting a regista should be the biggest priority.

Everything else aside, it's a shame how such a big club got bullied by this guy. Heard that they were looking to buy Lima and Paulinho just to please him.

Good opportunity for another youngster to take his place. As long ad Messi os there, no worries at all.

Real Madrid now needs to complete the Mbappe transfer and we will be looking the the team to beat in the CL.

PSG will be serious contender for CL, but will still consider Athletico, Juve, Barca, Real and Bayern favorites over them.

Neymar: Barcelona say Paris St-Germain target has paid his buyout clause

Barcelona forward Neymar has paid his buyout clause of 222m euros (£200m), the Spanish club say.

Neymar, 25, is set to sign for Paris St-Germain for a world record fee, after telling Barca he wanted to leave on Wednesday.

The Brazil international's lawyers paid the sum in person at Barca's offices.

Earlier on Thursday, La Liga rejected an attempt to pay it the fee, over concerns PSG are violating Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

In a statement, Barca said they "will pass on to Uefa the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case".

The club said previously that they would report PSG to Uefa, European football's governing body, for a breach of FFP rules.

"On Thursday afternoon Neymar's legal representatives visited in person the club's offices and made the payment of 222m euros in the player's name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties," Barca's statement read.

In Spain a player must buy himself out of his contract.

This is usually done by depositing the amount of the buyout clause with La Liga - Spain's equivalent of the Premier League - to release the player from his contract. The league then passes the money to the selling club.

"We can confirm that the lawyers of the player have come to La Liga to deposit the clause and that it has been rejected," La Liga told BBC Sport before the payment was made directly to Barcelona.

FFP rules, first implemented during the 2011-12 season, stipulate that European clubs cannot outspend what they earn by more than 30m euros.

PSG are backed by money from Gulf state Qatar and La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused the French club of "financial doping".

He told AS: "La Liga is positing that state-backed clubs that compete using 'financial doping' could destabilise professional football in Europe".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised the deal, saying: "Once a country owns a club everything is possible and it becomes difficult to respect Financial Fair Play."

Financial Fair Play is a joke - another corrupt idea of FIFA & UEFA. What has happened below the line is that Neymar has done some "Consultancy" for Qatar - say at around £1mn/minute rate for 3 hours & Qatar Govt. has paid his bill at one go. Now, he has bought out his contract from Barca and can join PSG as free agent.

This'll keep enough space for PSG in FFP to spend another £200mn for few other players - may be even Coutinho next year.

Neymar: Paris St-Germain sign Barcelona forward for world record 222m euros

Paris St-Germain have signed Brazil forward Neymar for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m) from Barcelona.

The deal for the 25-year-old smashes the previous record set when Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus for £89m in August 2016.

He will earn 45m euros (£40.7m) a year - 865,000 euros (£782,000) a week - before tax from the initial five-year deal, a total outlay of £400m.

Neymar said he has joined "one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe".

"Paris St-Germain's ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings," he added.

"I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new team-mates."

The French side have arranged a news conference for 12:30 BST on Friday. Neymar will then be introduced to fans on Saturday at PSG's first game of the season against Amiens at Parc des Princes.

PSG reached the last eight of the Champions League last season - knocked out by a Neymar-inspired Barcelona - and were beaten to the French title by Monaco.

A late snag?

After weeks of speculation, Neymar arrived for training with Barcelona on Wednesday with his father and representative, and told the Spanish club he wanted to leave.

He was then given permission by Barca manager Ernesto Valverde to leave to "sort out his future".

In Spain, a release clause can only be activated by a player buying himself out of his contract.

But when Neymar's lawyers attempted to make the deposit on Thursday, La Liga officials rejected the payment. Further statements followed from all sides as the negotiations continued.

La Liga believes French club PSG are violating Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and Barcelona previously said they would report PSG to European football's governing body Uefa for a FFP breach.

PSG believes La Liga was acting unlawfully, while the French league (LFP) said it was "surprised" and urged its Spanish counterpart to "abide by the Fifa rules".

Unable to get La Liga to take the payment, Neymar's representatives paid the 222m euros (£200m) fee at Barca's offices instead.

So FFP... who is right?

FFP rules, first implemented during the 2011-12 season, stipulate that European clubs cannot outspend what they earn by more than 30m euros.

PSG is backed by money from Gulf state Qatar and La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused the French club of "financial doping".

It is the first time PSG - ranked the 11th most valuable club in the world by Forbes - have broken the global transfer record, with Real Madrid paying five of the past six highest fees. The deal dwarfs the £89m Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer - the previous world record.

Stepping out of Messi's shadow?

Neymar's departure from Barcelona breaks up the feted attacking trident he formed with Argentina captain Lionel Messi and Uruguay forward Luis Suarez.

On Wednesday, Messi posted on Instagram: "It was a great pleasure to have shared all these years with you my friend Neymar. I wish you good luck in this new stage of your life." To which Neymar replied: "Thank you brother. I will miss you."

Then, after completing the move, the Brazilian posted his own message, calling the Argentine "the best athlete I've ever seen in my life".

"Lionel Messi became my team-mate, and my friend on and off the pitch," he wrote. "I am proud to have played with you. We formed an attack with Luis Suarez that will endure forever.

"I achieved everything a sportsperson can achieve. I lived unforgettable moments in a city that is more than a city - it's a homeland. Barcelona and Catalonia will always be in my heart but I need a new challenge.

"PSG offered a bold new way forward and I'm ready. Right now I feel in my heart that it's time to go. It was a difficult decision, taken with the maturity of my 25 years."

Since joining Barca in 2013, Neymar scored 68 goals in four full seasons - behind Cristiano Ronaldo (139), Messi (134), Luis Suarez (85), Antoine Griezmann (76) and Athletic Bilbao's Aritz Aduriz (70)

In that same period, he had the fifth most direct assists with 38 - again behind Messi (54), Atletico Madrid's Koke (45), Suarez (43) and Ronaldo (42)

In chances created in that time (287), he was second only to team-mate Messi (326)

He had the highest number of chances created last season (91) - more than any other PSG player (Angel di Maria had 78)

Edinson Cavani scored almost three times as many league goals (35) than Neymar (13) last season

Neymar in profile

Born in Mogi das Cruzes, a suburb of Sao Paulo, on 5 February 1992

Started his career at Santos after signing a professional contract in January 2009

Remains Santos' leading goalscorer in the post-Pele era with 138 goals in 229 matches

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United were all linked before he eventually signed for Barcelona in June 2013 at the age of 21

He made his Barca debut against Levante in August 2013 and went on to score 105 goals and provide 80 assists in 186 games for the Catalan club

He won two La Liga titles and one Champions League

Made his international debut aged 18 and he has scored 52 goals in 77 games for Brazil

What happened the last time Neymar was signed

When Neymar joined Barcelona in June 2013, the club said they paid a total of £48.6m.

But after Barca refused to offer more details, an investigation was started by the Spanish prosecutor into whether the club had defrauded the treasury of unpaid tax.

The president Sandro Rosell, who personally oversaw the pursuit of Neymar, eventually resigned - though he said it was for personal reasons - and his successor, Josep Maria Bartomeu, revealed the true cost of the deal was actually £71.5m.

Neymar's father got £33m fee, plus £2m in "agent fees"

Santos got £14m, plus £6m by giving Barca an option on future Santos players

The player got an £8m signing-on fee, plus £9m a year in wages over five years

Neymar's charitable foundation in Brazil also received £2m

In 1975, Italian Giuseppe Savoldi became football's first £1m player with his move from Bologna to Napoli. And Britain followed suit four years later, when Nottingham Forest paid Birmingham City £1.2m for England forward Trevor Francis.

Only two players have broken the transfer record twice: Argentina legend Diego Maradona and Brazil great Ronaldo.

Maradona moved from Boca Juniors to Barcelona for £3m in 1982, before joining Napoli two years later for £5m. Ronaldo joined Barcelona for £13.2m in 1996, but left after just one season to join Inter for £19.5m.

Brazil winger Denilson (£21.5m), Italy striker Christian Vieri (£32m), Argentina forward Hernan Crespo (£35.5m), Portugal winger Luis Figo (£37m) and France playmaker Zinedine Zidane (£46m) all raised the bar over the next three years.

Brazil midfielder Kaka (£56m) breached the £50m barrier in 2009 before his new club Real Madrid broke the record again by signing Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for £80m three weeks later.

The Bernabeu club beat their own record again with their £85m deal with Tottenham for Wales forward Gareth Bale in 2013 - before Manchester United paid £89m for France midfielder Pogba last summer.

Reaction & #NeymarMaths

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho: "Expensive are the ones who get into a certain level without a certain quality. For £200m, I don't think [Neymar] is expensive.

"I think he's expensive in the fact that now you are going to have more players at £100m, you are going have more players at £80m and more players at £60m. And I think that's the problem.

"So I think the problem is not Neymar, I think the problem is the consequences of Neymar."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "I thought Fair Play was made so that situations like that can't happen. That's more of a suggestion than a real rule."

Lille director general Marc Ingla, a former Barcelona vice president: "It's a blow for Barcelona. Neymar is an accelerator to this bright future of Ligue 1. The young talent pool we have here is the best in Europe. For sure we can still compete with PSG. Once you get on the pitch it's 11 v 11 and all the transfer fees and salaries narrow a bit."

Barcelona's Arda Turan: "It was a great pleasure to have lived all those unforgettable moments with you my brother. Wish you the best. Always..."

What would 222m euros buy you?

Five Huddersfield Towns - the Premier League new boys are valued at £44m

Effectively, it would buy you Monaco, the 19th most valuable club in the world based on figures from Transfermarkt

You could pay Premier League champions Chelsea's prize money and broadcast fees for last season and still have change

Or how about buying 1.5 million men's PSG shirts - the club's official store are selling the 2017-18 home jersey for 140 euros

In fact, why not splash out on 2 Kensington Palace Gardens. Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal bought the London property in 2004 for £57m (76m euros in today's market)

Or invest in 1,032 trips to space with Virgin Galactic. A ticket for Sir Richard Branson's commercial space-line currently costs $250,000

Analysis

BBC Radio 5 live sports news correspondent Richard Conway

Rêvons Plus Grand!", PSG's motto, is hard to avoid at their stadium, Parc de Princes.

Translated? "Dream Bigger!".

Signing Neymar, and obliterating the transfer world record, is certainly living up to that self-imposed ideal.

The club's owners, Qatari Sports Investment (QSI), are the upstarts within the European game and are determined to disrupt the old order.

QSI is an arm of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund - so PSG's ambitions are backed by the enormous natural gas wealth of the Gulf state.

Qatar is locked in a bitter dispute with its Arab neighbours right now - so this transfer has a distinct political overtone as it seeks to show it will not be diminished or cowed by an on-going trade blockade and a diplomatic war of words.

Having secured the World Cup in 2022, PSG is seen in Doha as one of the ways through which the state can achieve its ambitions.

And in Neymar they now have a player it hopes can bridge the gap between Champions League wannabes and serial winners.

Progress towards that target has not been easy so far. Millions spent in transfer fees has delivered plenty of domestic silverware. It is not the success the club truly craves.

A spate of recent quarter-final defeats and last season's second-leg capitulation to Barcelona in the round of 16 does not reflect the high ambitions of those in charge.

The talk in Paris is of building a dynasty, not merely creating fleeting moments of hope and glory.

As for Uefa's financial fair play? The regulations have certainly tempered PSG's elaborate spending in recent seasons but Neymar's arrival represents a serious challenge to the club in this respect alongside Uefa's credibility.

The value of this deal - fee and wages - must pass the necessary tests. There's confidence within PSG's boardroom that it will not be a significant issue but their accountants will perhaps be as busy as the first team squad in coming months.

In the end, this is an era-defining transfer on a par - in terms of its significance - with Maradona to Napoli, Shearer to Newcastle, Zidane, Ronaldo and Bale to Real Madrid or Pogba to Manchester United.

Those moves all had sporting ambition at their heart. This transfer, for now, is perceived more as a triumph of political and financial considerations.

But this is football. And ultimately this deal will not be judged in the governmental salons of Doha nor on a spreadsheet. Instead, success must be delivered through PSG capturing the club game's greatest trophy.

Brazilian journalist Fernando Duarte: "This is simply the biggest ever deal in football history.

"We're talking about a player who has the potential to be one of the best in the world. He has the marketing potential, he's a natural, unlike Lionel Messi for example who always looks awkward on camera.

"Why should Brad Pitt get $20m for a movie and a football player, who is not going to be playing in his 40s like many sporting stars, shouldn't?

"One year before the World Cup, he's going to a club where everything will be resting on his shoulders. If PSG win the Champions League, it will be Neymar's plaudits. If PSG fail, it will be Neymar's fault."

Barca fan here and I am happy he is gone. Was mostly a show pony with no final product. Messi made him look good.

If we could sign Dembele that would be great. He is five years younger and honestly he looks better at 20 than Neymar looked when we first signed him.

The rest of the money we get should be used to buy a world class midfielder and a centerback.

With the money Barca got for him they can really sign about three world class players. Coutinho, Mbappe, Sanchez and Dembele could be their possible targets with change possibly still left over. I was never a great fan of Neymar at all. From Barca's perspective they will be laughing their way to the bank!

I don't watch football so I am not too sure what's entirely happening in this thread but Good Luck to whichever team bought whichever player.

I am sure with such a valuable asset they will definitely win the World Cup now.

PSG gonna win the world cup... u r legend, my bro

This signing turns PSG into champions league contenders. It will also attract more people to potentially watch the league to see Neymar play.

A lot of money but a good signing.

Barcelona being linked with dybala - but he can't play on the right side channel.

I've got a feeling barca are going to sign mbappe, as he plays left sided central channel

They are going to make lot just out of Shirt sale. Besides, now every PSG match will be shown in Brazil & Chinese pay channels - now, they have probably 5 Brazil starters in XI. Besides, Paris as par 2015, has crossed London as the 4th richest City in world by GDP - PSG should increase their ticket price significantly & still can get a sell out Park de Princes for 48K capacity and their Corporate boxes. And be sure, now every summer, PSG will tour China for few matches - each one earning in 8 digits Euro, as appearance fee only.

Or Lemar. Dybala is a knee jerk reaction - another No. 9 in a club that has Suarez, that guy doesn't even get injured. However, I think Coutinho'll join Barca on the last day of window - I have full confidence on our Yanks; they have done same nautanki with Torres, Suarez & Starling. Had Mane been one more year proven, he would have been a Barca left winger for 75m by now. If anything that can keep Coutinho for that Barca No. 11 shirt is his desire to join Neymar at Paris a year later.

Neymar’s parents, former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and representatives for both the Spanish club and Brazilian team Santos also appeared in court after a complaint brought by Brazilian investment group DIS regarding the amount of the player’s transfer.

The Brazil forward arrived at the court in Barcelona wearing sunglasses and a black suit and tie. Neymar’s mother and father, who also is his agent, were among those arriving alongside the player.

The defendants, who have denied wrongdoing, sat near each other to hear the opening arguments in the trial that comes nearly a month before the World Cup opens on November 20 in Qatar, and is expected to last until the end of the month.

Neymar and the rest of the defendants have to be in court for the first day of the trial, but the player is only expected to testify on Friday.

Neymar and his father face corruption charges. Prosecutors have asked for a prison sentence of up to two years, although any jail time would likely be suspended. DIS asked for a five-year prison sentence for the 30-year-old Neymar and his father, and for compensation of €34 million($32.1m) and a fine of €195m that would be paid to the Spanish state.

Prosecutors seek a fine of €10m for Neymar and his father. They also seek five years in prison for Rosell for fraud and corruption charges, plus a fine of €10m.

Neymar’s representatives have argued that the crime of corruption between individuals was not punishable in Brazil, which is where they say the transactions originally took place. They said that according to Spanish law, a crime can’t be punished in Spain if it didn’t happen in both territories.

DIS was entitled to 40 per cent of Neymar’s transfer but said it received a smaller compensation because part of the transfer fee was concealed. Prosecutors said those involved tried to hide the real amount of the transfer in order to pay a lower commission to the investment group.

The lawyers for the plaintiffs argue that DIS only received its due percentage from the €17m that Barcelona and Santos initially announced as the transfer fee between the clubs, while the real cost was about €82m. An investigative judge in Spain has already said that the real cost was at least €83.3m.

Neymar and his father previously appeared in court in Madrid a few years ago because of the accusations.

Neymar made his highly anticipated move to Spain at age 21. He helped Barcelona win the club’s last Champions League title in 2015, and eventually became involved in a soap-opera like transfer to PSG in 2017.

Neymar’s move from Santos also got Barcelona in trouble with Spain’s tax office. In 2016, the Catalan club paid a fine of €5.5m to settle a separate case brought by authorities. In that settlement, the club acknowledged it had made “an error in the fiscal planning of the player’s transfer.”

Brazil forward Neymar has told a court that he "did not participate in negotiations" over his transfer to Barcelona from Santos in 2013, but signed what his father told him to.

Neymar and eight other defendants are on trial accused of fraud and corruption, which they deny.

Investment firm DIS owned 40% of the rights to the player and says it lost out as the transfer was undervalued.

"My father always took care of it and always will," the 30-year-old said.

"I didn't participate in the negotiations. I sign everything he [his father] tells me to sign," the Paris St-Germain player told the court in Barcelona.

"Playing for Barcelona was always my dream, a childhood dream."

The other defendants are Neymar's parents, the two clubs, former Barcelona presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell and former Santos president Odilio Rodrigues.

The player's father, Neymar da Silva Santos, told the court: "Our intention was to prepare a career plan for him in Europe, which we had in place already established. And knowing his dream to play for Barcelona, we signed that priority agreement with them."

DIS wants a five-year prison term for Neymar while Spanish prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence and a 10m euro fine for the player. They also want a five-year jail term for Rosell and an 8.4m euro fine for Barcelona.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, called as a witness, told the court his club had offered 45m euros in 2011 and 36m in 2013 to Santos to sign Neymar but the player chose to join Barcelona instead.

Earlier, defence lawyer Maria Masso said the player has not committed any crime, adding that the Spanish courts have no jurisdiction to prosecute the Neymar family as the alleged offences took place in Brazil, where they are not punishable.

Corruption and fraud charges against Neymar have been dropped by prosecutors in Spain.

The charges were made against the Paris St-Germain and Brazil forward and others accused in a trial over his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.

Prosecutors had initially sought a two-year jail term and a 10m euro (£8.6m) fine for the 30-year-old.

But they announced the withdrawal of charges "against all the accused for all the allegations" they had faced.

The other defendants in the case included Neymar's parents, the two clubs, former Barcelona presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, and former Santos president Odilio Rodrigues.

Neymar, who denied the allegations, had said he did not remember if he took part in negotiations. An agreement was reached in 2011 for his move from Santos to Barcelona, which was completed two years later.

Investment firm DIS, which acquired a 40% share of Neymar's rights when he was 17 in exchange for 2m euros, has argued it lost out because the transfer fee was undervalued. DIS lawyer Paulo Nasser claimed there were clubs that offered up to 60m euros.

Barcelona said at the time of Neymar's move that the fee was 57.1m euros, of which 40m euros was paid to his family - DIS received a 40% share of the remaining 17.1m euros that was paid to Brazilian club Santos.

The Brazilian footballer lost an appeal in Spain's High Court in 2017, leading to the trial being brought by Spanish prosecutors.

DIS had asked for a five-year jail term for Neymar, as well as prison sentences for Rosell and Bartomeu, plus a 149m euros fine. Prosecutors had been seeking a five-year jail term for Rosell, plus an 8.4m euros fine for Barcelona, as well as a two-year sentence for Neymar and 10m euros fine.

However, Baker McKenzie, the lawyers representing the Neymar family, claimed that Spanish courts "lack jurisdiction to prosecute the Neymar family and their company N&N" because the acts were committed by Brazilian nationals outside Spanish territory.

They also pointed out that the alleged crimes were not punishable in Brazil.

Neymar has shared messages he exchanged with Brazil team-mates following their quarter-final exit from the World Cup "to show how much we wanted [to win the World Cup] and how united we were".

At the weekend, the forward said he was "psychologically destroyed" by the loss.

However, following the defeat by Croatia on penalties, Brazilian media has suggested the team were not united.

Neymar was set to take Brazil's fifth penalty, but misses by Rodrygo and Marquinhos meant their fate was already sealed and he never stepped up.

The 30-year-old has subsequently revealed via Instagram that he sent messages of consolation to both players, as well as to veteran defender Thiago Silva.

"I'm dropping by to say that I am your fan," he told Marquinhos in one message. "One penalty will not change what I think about you. I am with you forever, and you know it. Love you."

Marquinhos, 28, who plays alongside Neymar at Paris St-Germain, replied to say: "I really wanted it all to have worked out - it's dreadful to think that penalty was an obstacle in our dream! But let's go, we need to be strong, give time some time, and see what football has in store for us."

He added: "Only we know what we went through to be here, what we went through those days over there, that's why it really hurts, the weight is big, but God knows what He does. If he gave me this it's because I can endure it and carry on."

Aged 38, it is unlikely Silva will feature in another World Cup. Neymar reached out to the centre-back, saying: "We're gonna have to keep going bro, sadly that's how it is! I wanted a lot to give you this cup. You, me and Dani [Alves] deserved a lot… But God has our purpose and he knows everything."

The Chelsea defender, who spent three seasons at Paris St-Germain alongside Neymar, replied saying: "Brother, It's harder than what I thought originally.

"I'm not holding up. I can't believe we lost! Every hour that I remind myself makes me want to cry a lot…But I will be OK."

At just 21 years old, Rodrygo could play in many more editions, but Neymar shared messages that showed he had consoled the Real Madrid forward after his weak penalty was easily saved by Croatia keeper Dominik Livakovic.

"Brother, I'm here to tell you that you're amazing," Neymar wrote. "The only people who miss penalties are the ones who take them. I already missed a lot in my career and I learned with all of them. But I never gave up, always tried to be better and improve in every way."

Rodrygo replied: "Thanks, my idol. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sorry for anything and for delaying your dream as well. I hope you can continue with us, so we can win together."

Neymar has played in three World Cups and equalled Pele's official goalscoring record of 77 in 124 appearances for the Brazil men's team when he put his team ahead against Croatia during extra time.

However, he has yet to reach a World Cup final - and was absent because of injury when Germany thrashed the tournament hosts 7-1 in the 2014 semi-finals. Brazil then exited the competition at the quarter-final stage in 2018.

Paris St-Germain striker Neymar is set to miss the rest of the season as he needs surgery on an ankle injury.

The Brazil forward was carried off with an injured right ankle during PSG's 4-3 home win over Lille on 19 February.

PSG say the 31-year-old has suffered several "instances of instability in his right ankle" over recent years and surgery is needed to "avoid a major risk of recurrence".

They added it will be three to four months before he can resume training.

Paris St-Germain have agreed a deal to sell Brazil forward Neymar to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for a fee understood to be about 90m euros (£77.6m) plus add-ons.

The transfer is subject to the 31-year-old completing a medical and all necessary paperwork.

Neymar, who joined PSG for a world record fee of 222m euros in 2017, missed the Ligue 1 opener on Saturday.

He has not been made part of coach Luis Enrique's plans for the new season.

It also fits PSG's strategy of moving away from the 'Galacticos' era of signing high-profile players for big fees and significant wages.

Neymar was understood to be earning in the region of 25m euros (£21.6m) annually at the French side.

He has made 173 appearances for PSG, helping the club win 13 trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles, as well as reaching the 2020 Champions League final.

However, his time in the French capital has also been hampered by a number of ankle injuries.

The former Barcelona player had surgery in March that caused him to miss the rest of the season and he only resumed training in July.

Neymar concludes his six-year stay in PSG and walks the path of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and others

After joining Saudi Arabian football club Al-Hilal on a two-year deal, former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Neymar said Tuesday he was relishing "new challenges and opportunities in new places", as the Brazilian star player becomes the latest name to leave for the oil-rich kingdom.

The 31-year-old concluded his six-year stay in Paris and walks the path of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, French Karim Benzema, and Senegalese Sadio Mane in joining the Middle East.

Neymar said in a statement from the Saudi Pro League: "I have achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places."

"I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment," his statement read.

"Al-Hilal is a giant club with fantastic fans, and it is the best in Asia. This gives me a feeling that it is the right decision for me at the right time with the right club. I love winning and scoring goals, and I plan to continue doing that in Saudi Arabia and with Al-Hilal."

Moving to PSG from Barca was a terrible move in hindsight. He did not achieve anything memorable, now will rot away in the Saudi League with all that talent.

Moved to PSG to go get out of the shadow of Messi and Suarez.

Soon got joined by Mbappe, Messi only to find himself sidelined again.

Neymar credits Ronaldo for Saudi Pro League transformation

Cristiano Ronaldo is responsible for transforming the Saudi Pro League, according to Brazil forward Neymar who is looking forward to facing the Portuguese international when he starts playing for Al-Hilal.

The 31-year-old Neymar signed a two-year contract with the Riyadh-based club on Tuesday after spending six years with Paris St Germain, in a deal reportedly worth about 90 million euros ($98 million).

Ronaldo, the five-times Ballon d'Or winner, joined Al-Nassr in December on a 2-1/2 year contract following his acrimonious departure from Manchester United.

"I believe Cristiano Ronaldo started all of this and everybody called him 'crazy', and this and that. Today you see the league grow more and more," Neymar said in his first interview after the transfer on Wednesday.

The Saudi Pro League has since invested over 600 million euros to lure a host of top players and coaches from European clubs.
