The 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) officially begins today, Thursday, March 26, 2026, marking a historic transition as the league expands to eight teams for the first time. The opening clash pits the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, against one of the league's newest franchises, the Hyderabad Kingsmen, at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

This season opener is more than just a title defense; it represents a "New Era" for the PSL following the league's first-ever player auction, which replaced the long-standing draft system. The Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, enter as heavy favorites with a battle-hardened core including Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Sikandar Raza. They aim to leverage their home-ground advantage at a venue where they have historically been the most dominant side in the league's history.

Challenging the established order, the Hyderabad Kingsmen make their debut under the leadership of Australian star Marnus Labuschagne. The new side features explosive local talent like Saim Ayub and Usman Khan, alongside international reinforcements such as Kusal Perera. While the visitors face the daunting task of upsetting the champions in their own fortress, the Kingsmen's blend of fresh energy and high-profile signings makes them a wildcard capable of a major opening-night statement.

The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM PKT. While the tournament was originally planned for six cities, the first leg will be played in Lahore and Karachi only, with initial matches held behind closed doors due to national logistical and fuel conservation measures.

Squads:

Lahore Qalandars’ set eyes on defending the title

26 March 2026, Lahore: As defending champions, Lahore Qalandars head into HBL PSL 11 looking to defend their crown. The 11th edition of the League opens on 26 March at Gaddafi Stadium, with the Qalandars facing one of the new entrants, Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium.

The team has already put in two training sessions at LCCA Ground, focusing on fielding drills and batting and bowling practise to fine-tune combinations ahead of the opener. Earlier, the local players had assembled in Capital Smart City Islamabad for a pre-tournament conditioning camp which helped the squad gel in ahead of the season.

Hussain Talat, who had been picked by LQ at the auction, suffered an injury during ODI series in Bangladesh and was consequently ruled out.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi is leading a local core that includes the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Abdullah Shafique, and Muhammad Naeem.

Lahore Qalandars’ overseas contingent for HBL PSL 11 features Bangladeshi duo Mustafizur Rahman and Parvez Hossain Emon, who have now joined the squad, alongside Dunith Wellalage (Sri Lanka), Rubin Hermann (South Africa), and Daniel Sams (Australia), adding depth and T20 firepower to the lineup. Sikandar Raza, retained ahead of the auction, is complemented by his Zimbabwe teammate Ryan Burl, who has been signed as the 20th player in the squad.

After lifting their third trophy in 2025, the Qalandars are banking on continuity and intensity to drive another title push. The expanded eight-team format means every game carries extra weight, and the players are treating the opener as a chance to lay down a marker.

With 10 league matches ahead across Lahore and Karachi, with the final set for 3 May in Lahore, Qalandars are aiming to carry momentum all the way. If the early preparation is any sign, they’re coming into HBL PSL 11 ready to impose their aggressive style and chase back-to-back championship once again.

The following members of the squad are available for selection; Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe), Haris Rauf, Abdullah Shafique, Muhammad Naeem, Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh), Usama Mir, Ubaid Shah, Haseebullah Khan, Mohammad Farooq, Parvez Hossain Emon (Bangladesh), Asif Ali, Tayyab Tahir, Maaz Khan, Daniel Sams (Australia), Dunith Wellalage (Sri Lanka), and Shahab Khan.

Rubin Hermann (South Africa) will arrive later tonight. Ryan Burls (Zimbabwe), who has been signed yesterday, is also yet to arrive.

How come hassaan khan is listed as domestic player in criconfo, not sure if its a mistake. Shouldn't he be US foreign player like Shayan or that only happens once he has represented US in national team.

I guess it’s until he doesn’t represent USA

However I remember a few seasons ago UK was registered as overseas even though he hadnt represented UAE yet.

I think the Kingsmen are an exciting side on paper so I will really enjoy tuning into their matches,

Today I think they will be overwhelmed by the Qalandars who are a pretty well oiled unit with Fakhar, Raza, Shaheen and Rauf

HK's bowling looks very light. Looks the weakest in the tournament. Probably depending a lot on Saim's and Hassan's bowling.

Kingsmen such a team of nobodies and has beens. Can't recognize half the names. Captain doesnt even play for national team.
Players from US other than 1 dont even play for associate US team.
Seriously, we're they picking team for ramadan t20 or PSL.

Can someone clarify the rules. Ami right in thinking all teams MUST play atleast one emerging player or has the rule changed

Abdullah Technique Shafique, the little sakka of Asad Shafiq and the pair of them - bums!
Lol he gets bashed a lot here but had an Ok national T20. Want to see him in full flow and push for national selection.
