Foreign players registration process for 10th edition of HBL PSL now open

The registration window for foreign players to register themselves for the 10th edition of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) along with the trade window is now open. The category renewals of the players will be announced on Tuesday, 17 December.

The relegation process and retention of players will be carried out during the ongoing month.

The HBL PSL Players’ Draft is scheduled to take place on 11 January, 2025. The venue and time for the draft will be announced in due course.

HBL PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer:

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of the registration process for foreign players as well as the trade window. This marks an exciting beginning to preparations for the highly anticipated 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League.

“The HBL PSL is a home-grown brand which we are all proud of. Since its inception in 2016, together with our franchise owners, commercial partners and stakeholders, we have embarked on a long and successful journey.

“The quality and competitiveness of cricket played is second to none and we will strive to meet expectations of our loyal fans. The landmark 10th season promises to bring more excitement for all and the HBL PSL team is committed to working tirelessly to provide fans unmatched experiences.”

Since 2016, Islamabad United have become champions of the HBL PSL thrice, which include the opening (2016), third (2018) and last edition (2024) of the league. Lahore Qalandars have won twice in 2022 and 2023, Peshawar Zalmi remained champions of the 2017 edition. Quetta Gladiators won the 2019 edition, while Karachi Kings clinched their maiden title in 2020. Multan Sultans emerged as the winners in 2021.

Rizwan and Babar retained in platinum category by Multan and Peshawar

This is where the besharmi begins

So if PSL raises the salary cap to $400k for Platinum

Do you not think it’s the ultimate waste of money to pay this kind of amount to Babar and Rizwan in T20s?

As per reports:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the draft for Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 will take place next month, with Karachi or Lahore emerging as the frontrunners to host the event.

The draft is slated for January 11, marking the beginning of preparations for the league's milestone 10th edition.

Although there were talks during a recent meeting about hosting the draft overseas, officials concluded that it would be more appropriate to organize the event within Pakistan at this time.

Mathew Short registers

Matt Short
Gundakesh Motie
Daryl Mitchell

That’s 3 proper T20 players. Sean Abbot not too bad either

If Matt Short plays whole season, this rings alarm bells for RizBar supremacy. This guy will show up your national T20 openers on these roads!

If PCB can somehow get these players on board;

Fin Allen
Ryan Rickleton
Glen Phillips
Mathew Breetzke
Glen Chapman
Tim Robinson

The quality of the league would enhance massively. They are all available, and they have fellow countrymen already signed up.

Also I think the PCB should demote all of its players from Platinum, and reserve that only for International pros.

How do you expect someone like Glenn Phillips to register if 70% of the top money bracket is already occupied by jobbers he has buried? Like there are only 5-6 spots left for International pros to make the platinum category?

Going by this,

There are 9 available slots in platinum. I don’t remember the rule but I think each franchise has to pick a certain amount of Pakistan players in the platinum category.

You really need to clear this out. It’s probably the biggest detriment in attracting enough international quality stars. They will not waste their time in the PSL being paid less than guys who are poor T20 players. Pakistanis are crap T20 players barring maybe Amir and Saim atm

Imo, these changes are needed immediately in PSL (from the top of my head)

1. Franchises decide the category of the player. We are protecting egos of our star players so they get picked up at a higher base price which is purely wrong. The players should set a minimum category & that's about it otherwise we'll keep seeing ordinary players hog the main categories while talent will be shunted down to silver.

2. A mixture of auction plus draft. I'll put this out with an example: LQ has the first pick, they pick a player as Diamond, any franchise right there and then can say we want this player for Platinum. The franchise that bids platinum, gets the player & loses their term in the round. LQ gets to pick a player again. This can happen only once per round or so forth to avoid deadlocks, etc.

3. Limit overseas player quota to max 3 or 2. No point in playing 4 when the quality is low. Get a few but only A listers or at least players who are a brand on their own.

4. End the rule to have an U19 player in the team. Make the franchises select two or three U19 but do not force them in the squad. Have seen many matches where the U19 player neither bats nor bowls but is in the team just because it's mandatory.

5. Play the PSL at the similar time as the other league across the border & free Feb season for international test cricket No need to have a separate one month window for this, big players still don't come so just make the switch permanent. Start it a week or so before & end it while that league is in the middle.

6. End double headers & day matches. Target the prime time & stick with it. Restaurants & malls showcasing your product, EU friendly, & also weather proof. If dew is a factor that is too significant, either wet the field intentionally when the first team is playing or just ensure that the toss is only for the first round when same two teams play & in the next round the side losing the toss can just decide what they want to do. Example: LQ vs. KK & in round one KK won the toss & elected to field. In their rematch, no need for toss, LQ can decide whether they wish to field or bat first.

7. Introduce some innovation for the TV viewers. Get some new graphics, bat speed, etc. type things. Spend money on your product so it has a premium look & feel, one never goes wrong when it comes to making the product better.

8. Tonty tonty is boring cricket & aping the good gimmicks other leagues are doing like super subs or other cosmetic changes to playing conditions like special 2x over where runs are doubled or wickets are doubled need to be added somehow. Innovation never hurt anyone so far.

Williamson signed for PSL. PSL alongside IPL is the way to go if u want better players. Warner, Williamson, Mitchell, Short, Chapman are top players compared to what PSL has in recent seasons. Let's see how playing alongside IPL affects viewership

If the PSL proves to be a success, I guarantee you BPL will follow suit and will want to copy psls strategy of co existing with the IPL.

Kane Williamson is a big name. Any team would be lucky to have him in their dressing room. Our young players can learn alot from him.

Warner
Kane
Daryl Mitchell
Shakib
Southee

These are the most 'must-get' players in the draft.

Warner to LQ. I'm sure he will enjoy playing under Shaheen's captaincy. They seem to get along well.

Some good players from the Diamond category:

Kyle Jamieson (good enough to be in Platinum tbh)
Nangeyalia Kharote
Kyle Mayers
Josh Little
Abbas Afridi
Dwaine Pretorius
Pathum Nissanka
Kusal Perera
Ashton Turner

'How low can you go?' Some decent picks from the Gold category:

Liton Das
Ottneil Baartman
Gudakesh Motie

This made me laugh. Never change Savak bhai

Imagine the BPL trying to run at the same time without Pakistani players :ROFLMAO:

Savak will tell us that Pakistani players can play in both tournaments because his sources told him so 🤣

When BPL was held alongside the PSL, didn't BPL have better high profile foreign players who played in the BPL vis a vis Pakistan? If foreigners prefer playing in Bangladesh in comparison to Pakistan then what is to stop them from hosting the BPL at the same time as the PSL alongside the IPL?

Pathum and Kusal will be good batters to have on your side. Kyle Myers is also pretty handy player.

English players still doubtful for PSL 10 but white ball format players can participate:

The English Cricket Board (ECB) has reformed its policy to prevent players with red-ball contracts from missing County Championship matches. However, backlash from players, agents, and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) has led to a more flexible approach. Players with white-ball county contracts, such as Billings, Curran, Jordan, and Willey, are likely to secure No Objection Certificates (NOCs). All-format players, like Kohler-Cadmore and Vince, face tougher decisions, as their PSL commitments could mean missing up to six County Championship games. The ECB has also denied NOCs to six centrally contracted England players, including Jonny Bairstow and Adil Rashid.

If County cricket is unable to hold on to their players , then it is the end of first class cricket also , Ipl owners already vulturing on county cricket

but while playing IPL all these clauses by ECB will get null and void because money speaks.

England's veteran batter with 13,340 runs quits first-class cricket for 2025 to play in PSL, says 'I need to understand what is best for my family'

England's 33-year-old batter James Vince has decided to quit his first-class cricket for 2025 to play for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The decision comes after England Cricket Board's (ECB) new policy which does not let players from skipping domestic cricket to play in overseas leagues. The move was announced last month to prevent domestic cricket from geting "undermined" by mushrooming T20 leagues around the world.

Shan Masood-led Karachi Kings retained Vince in PSL draft on January 13. So far, the policy only announces players to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the English domestic season. Vince said that he had to take the decision for his family. He is now a white-ball speciallist for Hampshire.

"I love Hampshire. It's been my club and home for 16 years, so I want to be able to maintain my best to keep delivering for Hampshire in T20 cricket, and hopefully even further our success in the competition [the Blast]. I also need to understand what is best for my family, and combine that with the stage of my career I am at," Vince was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Vince's family has relocated to Dubai. He is currently leading Gulf Giants in the International League T20 (ILT20). He was forced to move out due to attacks on his home in the country.

"I am so grateful to everyone at Utilita Bowl for supporting me last year through a really tough time, and for allowing me to make this next step," Vince said.

Hampshire's director of cricket, Giles White wants the club's supporters to back Vince for taking the tough decision. He said that Vince will continue to play for Hampshire in the white-ball formats.

"James has been at the heart of the club for the best part of 20 years, showing absolute commitment on and off the field as the team's leading batter and captain," he said.

"We recognise that this announcement will be tinged with disappointment for many fans but hope everyone will join us in celebrating what he has given to our club over many years and supporting him as he fulfils his commitment to continue leading the Hawks in the 2025 Vitality Blast."

Why is Bairstow and Rashid hanging around?

They are not in England’s red ball plans either

In an recent interview with ESPNcricinfo, James Vince stated that there will be more English players retiring from red ball cricket to play in the PSL. I don't understand the ECB hypocrisy that they are allowing NOC's only for IPL and not for PSL.

The PSL, and all the other crappy domestic T20 leagues (that make TTF into heroes), can go to hell! It's been downhill for the Pakistan team ever since this infernal tournament started!

Who cares about International matches bro.

It's PSL hype time!

King Babar and Shaheen the Eagle

This PSL, I won’t be supporting any team. Instead, I’ll br supporting individuals that can finally put an end to the TukTuk.

Mohammad Haris, please I ask you to put pressure on Rizwan for the national team.

Haidar Ali, there’s a number 3 spot open for you, take his crown away.

Mohammad Wasim

Amir Jamal

Tayyab Tahir

Any spinner excluding Shadab and Mir.

Why can’t the PCB get involved and demand the removal of Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen as captains?

Cos they the only big names left in Pak Cricket and PSL is all about the money, and not there for the improvement of the game...look at the way Karachi fans leave after Babar gets out which I don't get...it's not like he is Afridi as he has neither the swag nor the game of a big match player

HBL PSL X trophy unveiled in Arabian Sea

•The HBL PSL X trophy is named “The Luminara Trophy”

Karachi, 13 March 2025:

The HBL Pakistan Super League has made history with a spectacular unveiling of its landmark 10th edition trophy, Luminara, in Karachi’s coastal waters. This unprecedented move marks a new milestone in the league’s legacy, symbolising innovation, resilience, brilliance, and the spirit of Pakistan’s premier T20 competition.

A striking masterpiece, Luminara is crafted from a single sheet of solid silver, precisely machined to create its intricate stone settings. Weighing 10 kilograms, the trophy is adorned with 22,850 high-luster zircon stones, reflecting the talented stars, passion, energy, and competitive excellence that define HBL PSL.

The name Luminara signifies illumination, derived from the Latin word ‘luminare’ meaning ‘torch’ and ‘lumens’ meaning ‘light.’ It embodies the league’s decade-long journey of leading the way for cricketing excellence and entertainment.

The unveiling was conducted in the open waters of the Arabian Sea, where a professional diver recovered a treasure chest from the deep sea with the support of the Pakistan Navy and handed over the prized trophy to HBL PSL stakeholders present in Karachi. The narrative signifies a breathtaking display symbolising the league’s depth, evolution, and unwavering spirit. This unique spectacle was witnessed by HBL and PCB officials, franchise representatives, and cricketers further amplifying the excitement leading up to HBL PSL X.

Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi:

“The unveiling of ‘Luminara’ at sea is a testament to the league’s commitment to innovation and excellence. As we celebrate a decade of HBL PSL, this trophy represents the league’s shining legacy and its bright future.”

“The HBL Pakistan Super League has always been about pushing boundaries, both on and off the field. Pakistan Super League (PSL) X proudly announces the full-scale implementation of Match Officials’ Technology (MOT) powered by Hawk-Eye Innovations for the upcoming landmark edition. While the league has previously embraced components of MOT, this edition marks a significant step forward—aligning HBL PSL with the highest global standards in officiating, transparency and viewer engagement.

The six-team tournament will be played in four cities – Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi from 11 April to 18 May.

From auto no-ball detection and live umpire communication to DRS and innings timers, match logging and real-time multi-angle replays, every HBL PSL match of this edition will operate with a comprehensive tech-backed officiating ecosystem. A dedicated Hawk-Eye technician will be stationed at every match to support umpires and streamline operations.

Additionally, through MOT, fans will now see DRS and innings timers on the big screen and in broadcast graphics in real time, further deepening their connection to the action.

In a positive development, for the first time the over-rate calculations will be available ball-by-ball for the fans and teams alike. Umpires will have access to handheld tablets for real-time logging for over-rate calculations, and instant DRS triggers.

With the introduction of the latest innovations, the broadcaster will gain richer, tech-supported storytelling capabilities during the historic edition of HBL PSL.

HBL PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer:

“HBL PSL has always seeks to introduce innovation in the league and after weeks of deliberation regarding which innovation to introduce, we can now proudly say that HBL PSL X matches will have full MOT integration.
