Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Tuesday said the successful hosting of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore will send a positive message to the international cricketing community.

"If we can successfully hold the PSL final in Lahore, it will send a message to all that the conditions are better here and security can be provided," Khan said while speaking to media in Lahore.

He added that he hoped the conditions would improve gradually after the final, and international teams may once again consider touring Pakistan.

"In my opinion, it is a very important event for Pakistan and cricket in the country."

The PCB chairman said all stakeholders, including security and government agencies, are working towards the goal of making the final a possibility.

When questioned regarding the recent wave of terror attacks in the country, Khan said he believes the attacks are focused on security and national institutions and not the PSL final.

Khan nonetheless added that "VVIP security will be provided to all foreign players."

PSL to devise strategy for sale of tickets
PSL organisers are deliberating a ticket sales policy for the final, sources in the league said.

The tickets are expected to go on sale within the next few days.

"The PSL final tickets would be available for sale online," said a source.

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the venue for the event, has a seating capacity of 25,000 people divided into 14 enclosures. The minimum price of tickets for the match is expected to be Rs500 per ticket, with the most expensive priced at Rs12,000, sources told DawnNews.

Renovation of the stadium has been started. An inauguration ceremony for the final will also be held, sources told DawnNews.

I dont that will be the case. It will just show how much of a fuss it is to hold a single match in Pakistan.

I appreciate the efforts though.

I don't see the upside for the amount of risk involved.

There will be tremendous, passionate, loud, beautiful crowd - the best ever hopefully.

Even so, not sure it will convince any team to tour.

On the other hand, one incident and the delicate process will be set back several years.

Hope it goes well though.

Think its more for the people at home to get a connection with their own tournament.

I like the amount of effort that PCB is putting into this.

It's a make or break moment. Fantastic by PCB to stand their ground. Can anyone tell me if the recent attacks are just to threaten PSL?

No it won't, not with the game being played with the stadium and an extended area around it surrounded and guarded by the paramilitary and possibly the army. Thats not how games are or should be played. That doesn't inspire confidence.
A more logical approach would have been to play a few preliminary games in the country and based on the observed response and feedback from the security agencies, decide on the venue for the final. I dont blame the players who are refusing to come to play for the final. Just continue with the same location for the final and call it a success.
Learn and plan better for next year

If the idea is foreign players participating in the final at Lahore will be a stepping stone for international cricket - well the fact most of the top foreign players aren't going defeats the purpose.

I don't understand why they can't just move the final to somewhere like Rawalpindi. Yes host the final in Pakistan but in light of the recent blast how it can be held in Lahore ?

This feels like a political vanity project where people want to boast about how they "brought the PSL home" - sorry, but you can't play around with peoples' lives like this.

Yup, the rest of the world just doesn't follow the news at all. There is no message being received by anyone with the final being in Lahore. PCB is really losing touch with reality here.
