Yeah, could be, I was in Pak last month and nobody seemed to know or even care we have a tri series with SL and Zim going on. People seemed much more interested in their daily lives and problems compared to the Lahoris, Multanis etc. HoweverI saw many more people outside in malls, restaurants, bazaars etc compared to when I was last there 14 years ago, so it seems they have just lost interest in kirkut.

Only time I have seen karachi stadium full was during pak vs eng t20 series in 2022

Every A lister in the world is in IPL.....only kachra and retired players left for PSL..... how it gonna become brand and then you say people don't come to stadium to watch....even last year there were some decent players but pouched by IPL this year....why celebrate mediocrity?

Two issues that could help the league are actually building proper brands and that is built through players being pinned to the franchises for long periods of times so it becomes their club - ideally this should be done on regional basis I.e Shaheen for Peshawar, Sarfraz should have been face of Karachi. We had average overseas players before and they got massive fan following because they became part of the team, think about Wiese, Sammy Khan, Ben Dunk. We have to create the franchises so they have an identity.

And yes crowd is an issue. It's not too much to do with economy. Pakistan got enough people spending big bucks that even outspend us guys going over with pounds in our pocket. Ultimately PCB needs to undertake major research to find target demographic for cricket and how to make it marketable to them.

Quality of overseas players is not as big a factor as the above.

These tier-1 players play other leagues around the world. I've never been bothered enough to tune in, maybe their local fans watch it. If a big name player does well I will watch a 1 min reel on facebook or tiktok.

Same thing goes for PSL. It needs to capture the eyes of the domestic market really and overseas is helpful, but not the main factor here.

Over that 8 year period we should have developed some brand identity and local superstars tied to the franchises.


Peoples first priority is to pay to see them.

I am not saying my experience is universal. But I rarely watch any overseas league apart from PSL or if Pakistan players are playing in like BBL. I may tune in for a bit in the background or watch highlights.

The local players and brands need to be strengthened.

Yeah but PSL didn't do other thing right as well.....eg no young players given gane time while same non t20 players like saud shakeel, agha salman, rizwan were playing all matches....

You are right it does make a difference.

But I reckon 80% of the leagye is local players, PDP program, fan engagement, brand building.

20% is overseas calibre.

We focus on the 20% too much and meanwhile the 80% is moving nowhere.
