PSL TV broadcast thread

According to a reputable source, some very competitive bidding is going on for the PSL UK TV rights , I would expect to hear something over the next few days.

If its true thats a really positive sign

I bet that might be also the reason why sky is showing mcl only on streams

I hope the bidding war between bt sports and sky sports bring alot of revenue for PSL/PCB

At the moment Sky Sports are not in the bidding for UK rights for the PSL.

Presumably sky didn't intend to go for the MCL then until they realised no one else did either so just picked it up for online streaming.

Would be interested to find out who the so called PSL UK rights 'bidding war' is between if sky haven't gone for it at all yet.

awful from pcb should have sold rights of uk many weeks ago as it is a massive market, so proper promotion could have been done.

Prime TV in UK, Ten Sports, PTV Sport and Geo Super will broadcast PSL in Pakistan. Live streaming on the PSL and PCB websites.

Is This Prime TV UK or Something Else . It does not look like a Sports channel

Oh my God. I will not be able to watch this tournament because I have virgin which doesn't have Prime TV. What a shame

rights should of been sold to ITV or the BBC in the UK. No non Asian is going to tune in to Prime TV to watch PSL. Already restricting the target demographic of PSL.

There goes most of the viewership from the UK it seems then. Getting on sky would really be a vital part in making it known over here.

What an anticlimax - so it's Prime TV, broadcast quality to be as good as it was on PTV back in 80s.

I'm guessing the PSL coverage will be sponsored by Tariq Sweet Centre, Mushtaq Halal Meat, and Raja Ilyas and Sons Supermarket.

Yes PTV Prime in the UK

Free channel is the good news, however not the best of channels is the bad news.

I don't think any of the big boys of UK television were very interested in the PSL.

People need to calm down.

This is the very first season of PSL, it not surprising that the major players in the UK did not buy the rights.

So its prime tv formely known as ptv prime
And its free to air so the viewership should be high

Free to air but hidden deep in the depths of other channels that most have also ever heard the name of unfortunately.

This had me in tears :91:

Pathetic from PCB. Its mind boggling how unprofessional all of this is.

Pakistani entertainment channel, Prime TV has acquired the UK television rights of the inaugural Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2016.

The news was confirmed through a Twitter post by Najam Sethi, Chairman of Pakistan Super League. He said, Prime TV will broadcast the tournament, which starts on 4th February 2016.

The heavily budgeted event will star top Pakistani cricketers, as well as international cricketing talent. It will see five teams participating in it with each team representing a city. The Pakistan Super League league will be held in UAE – At two stadiums in Dubai and Sharjah. The 24 matches will be held take place between 4th February – 24th February.

This is the first major cricketing event for Prime TV, which has beaten competition from other Pakistani, Indian and mainstream broadcasters for the lucrative rights.

Ten Sports, PTV and Geo Super will share the rights of the series in Pakistan. It will also be streamed on the Pakistan Super League and Pakistan Cricket Board websites.

More to follow.

Dony worry brother everything will fall in place.
This league is going to be a success Insha-Allah.
This is only the first year

The best way for them to get higher viewership is by advertising on view asia platform which put ads through all the asian channels

Which I don't understand because CPL is broadcast by BT Sports and PSL has more potential but still no bids? PCB marketing team is woeful. They need to hire frontmen that can actually talk the talk.

Ten Sports in telecasting MCL in Middle East. Check YouTube live channel for TS they usually live stream Pakistan matches may be MCL too.

I would think the likes of Sky, BT, EuroSport were initially interested but PCB /TenSports perhaps tried to capitalise on all this interest by demanding a higher asking price from one party telling them they had another big party ready to do the deal -- and with time running out and this not being the way business is done over here with world class broadcasters, these guys probably pulled out and left the PSL with very little choice but to find a 'desi' channel who naturally would have no problem in re-organizing their TV schedule at the last minute to accommodate cricket. In any case, with channels like Prime TV half of the time their program schedule says one thing and the channel is broadcasting another program.. compare that with say Sky who announce their schedules weeks before.

Pakpak

This had me in tears

Tears from laughter I hope :) just wait till you see the adverts - "PSL - live & exclusive, our coverage is sponsored by Chaudhary Iqbal & Son Solicitors, Nazir's Biryani Masala, Malik Jewellers and PK Snacks and Pistachios"

Prime TV it is then

there was me thinking BT, Euro Sports or ITV where bidding for the right after Saj ruled out Sky.

Guess there were an option from Zee, Sony Max and Ary from the UK asian channels

There's no chance the aforementioned channels would have ever been interested. The reason being PCB's unprofessionalism, think Saj mentioned that once I believe. Sad state of affairs.

Revenue wise it won't bring in much, but I think this a very good deal from a viewership point of view.

A lot of Asians will get the chance to watch the PSL for free and if they like the product, then they'll tune in and watch.

I don't think anyone out there is going to subscribe and pay a fee, just to watch PSL on Sky Sports or BT, plus most british fans don't care about the T20 format or cricket in general, hence a deal with BBC or ITV was out of the question.

Both BBL and IPL have been around for quite sometime and are a huge success, therefore those two are a different story, whilst CPL is aired because of Sky's deal to show home matches of the Windies team.

Overall, very good deal in my opinion.

If they are paying a good price then it should be good. Prime is also accessible in USA so I wonder it will air here.

Prime TV showing the PSL is better than no coverage which was a possibility as well. Anyway, maybe like the Bangladesh Premier League which was initially on some Bengali channel moved coverage to Premier Sports last season. Maybe after a season or two the same will happen for PSL.

One should remember that even IPL wasnt shown in UK in the first season i belive until itv started showing than nw skysports.

So it will take time to build the brand value and it will be sold at higher price in later stage

with the amount of english players in the tournament i was expecting a bigger channel to pick it up, don't have a massive issue with Prime TV, apart from the fact there will probably be an ad break every over.

whats most shocking is anyone here at all was so delusional that they thought it might seriously be a mainstream channel.

Now why is it that after hearing about prime tv i have somehow lost all interest of watching it.....
Even ITV4 would have sufficed

Ditto.

I am surprised people actually thought Sky Sports , BBC or BT Sport were going to take the offer :)))

PSL and PCB's website would stream it live as well. Not sure if free or you will have to pay some subscription fee.

PSL and MCL TV broadcast thread

Just read this news!

http://www.media247.co.uk/bizasia/prime-tv-acquires-pakistan-super-league-rights-2016

So relieved, and mainly for my father who had given me the task to find out who will broadcast it over here, if at all. I myself of course have been looking forward to it since months now. Prime TV´s coverage may not yet turn out to be the best, but I am happy as there was an increasing danger of no one showing it at all.

Peshawar Zalmi will be now team, by the way.

No sign of it on any of Australia's eight sports channels.

Like IPL, it looks as if nobody wants to watch it.

With two of the Big Three countries generating too little interest for a broadcaster to show the matches on TV, and non-existent crowds, MCL must be bleeding money fast.

Useless broadcaster for the third class competition. I don't think PSL will last more than a year.

Any news Prime TVs Coverage? I mean will Prime have own Studio analysts or take from Direct Broadcast?

Yeah, ESPN3 is broadcasting the MCL here but no interest in that.

Guess online streams and ball by ball commentary and then highlights will have to suffice

no advertisement yet on tensports about PSL in india.

any one can confirm who will show it in India?

So no PSL broadcast in India?Considering the matches were in prime time spot and still no channel subscribed to it means either the broadcasters believes there is not much value in PSL or PSL hasnt marketed itself.Anyway looks like PSL will not be broadcasted in the biggest cricket market.Even MCL BPL CPL and MiT20 are broadcasted in India.

This reflects poorly on PCB.

After Pakistan, India is biggest Target market. It would be terrible for PSL. Not a Single ad here. It seems it will not be broadcasted here even though Ten network has Four sports channel here &One of these channels dedicated to cricket only.

PCB has done a bad job. US, Canada, Aus, Ind, No coverage. Asian entertainment channel in Europe so no viewership outside some asian houses

Consider this

Even CPL which is telecasted at midnight in India has viewership and thats why SRK bought a team in it.MIT20 and BPL are telecasted.MCL as well. But no PSL.

no broadcaster in india STAR TEN SONY NEO none showing any promos neither its in their listing
