PTI announces mass resignations from National Assembly

Hopefully this is a drama, and they are not really resigning as that would be a big mistake. The PM and Leader of Opposition choose the caretaker govt.

Diesel as President will be the result of mass PTI resignations.

do not worry. Their resignation will not be accepted. They will keep getting paid until their resignation accepted.

This is a gamble and i am not sure a good move. This will allow the opposition to do whatever they want in the assembly with regards to the NAB Chief, Chief Election Commissioner, Interim Govt. The people in Pakistan will not keep coming out to the streets daily and if Shahbaz keeps giving subsidies to the population even if its at the risk of imbalances, support for PTI will dwindle.

Also if the Millitary Establishment is against IK and if the opposition is free to institute all sorts of cases against him i.e. Sita White, Foreign Funding which will get him arrested and PTI disbanded, whats the point then?

If they are resgining then they should start civil disobedience and something like that otherwise it ain't work

I'm hearing close to 130 resignations are with speaker. Make no mistake its a massive numbers its almost as much as PMLN and PPP have combined.

Now on top of this if SC decision goes in favour of PTI in respect of disgruntled MNAs then it would result in de-seating of 20 odd more MNAs.

Tomorrow IK is holding a massive jalsa in Peshawar. I fully expect him to dissolve the KP assembly sooner rather than later that could be done tomorrow as well. This is election on 100 seats as well.

On the day Hamza gets elected as CM of Punjab we are expecting mass resignation from Punjab Assembly that would be another 130 odd seats. Add to that resignations on Sindh and Baloch assemblies from PTI too.

No way interim elections would happen on so many seats. As a result of resignations this week if it triggers general election then it would be massive win for IK.

Disband KPK assembly where they have such a large majority . What a foolish move by IK if true.

A more aggressive approach is required resign from all assy and the cordon the parliament

Agree.

Its principle. If you say this VONC was due to outside interferene, you can then not accept it so must resign.

Let them win those seats, this will enhance PTI's chances of even a bigger majority in the general elections.

Now I think that it won’t be such a bad move because PPP would be the biggest loser in this process as PMLN would clean sweep Punjab, Islamabad and Hazara division. Rest of KPK would will be divided between JUI F, JI and ANP. There will be fight between MQM and PPP for Karachi.

At the end PPP would be irrelevant for PM Shehbaz. PPP would never let by elections take place.

As far i know i think its speaker who accepts it. I think speaker ask them if anyone force you to give resignation.
Let someone confirm that.

The speaker should accept the resignation as they cannot force anyone to stay on as MNA if they dont want to be.

A funny fact is that in the UK, its not allowed to resign from the House of Commons (the lower house of the Parliament). There is a weird procedural trick to transfer the MP to a office of profit (There are two or three paid positions used for this). When they accept the office of profit, they are automatically disqualified from being MP, so in effect its a resignation

Awesome move, if yesterday's nation's reaction is anything to go by then rest assured these corrupt crook stooges of PDM ll be out running to London soon, if not for their lives if awam got too serious. Nation is behind IK and no matter how much money these corrupt leeches mafia give to buy seats and judiciary, it is not going to work for too long as nation is fed up of these corrupt family dynasty politicians. Really takes a next level jahil gawar to support family dynasty based politicians who have had corruptions charges through out their khandani ruling game career over decades.

Whole recent development was actually rather a fantastic move as soon we will see PDM having a go at one another and this move has united the nation further to bring these leeches down for good. Too much time of IK and PTI was being wasted on these Baap dada ke jageer party walay. A few comical characters celebrating such incomptent corrupt politicians here will soon go missing. PDM will be finished in 2-3 month time come reelection.

If my understanding of the constitution is correct, President Arif Alvi can only be impeached with a 2/3rd majority of the entire parliament (i.e. 2/3rd of Senate + NA's total of 442 seats).

This means that anything the new government tries to pass in the NA can be blocked or delayed by President Alvi without any threat of impeachment, meaning that the government won't be able to get a lot of things done (i.e. roll back election reforms, etc).

If that's the case, this could be a masterstroke by PTI. Delay and block legislation for as long as possible, and wait for the inevitiable collapse of the PDM due to infighting to trigger early elections. The government is only barely hanging on to a majority, if a single small party leaves the whole thing collapses.

Someone already replied to you but I'll put it here as well:

President has no powers. It does not matter if he sign or not sign. Anything sent to his office will get automatically consider as law even if he does not sign it after a period of time. It’s pure formality and optional one at best.

So if you call it IK genius for this then IK is dumber then a doornail. But off course he is not you just made him look like one. President will resign as well at some point.

PDM was already finished a year back, however due to foreign intervention, evident by the sheer number of meetings low level US diplomats had with the PTI ship jumpers and the opposition, they have a found a way into power through day light robbery. The worst is our institutions are part of the conspiracy as they don't want to take up 'threat gate' cause it will open Pandora's box.

If the Bill is presented to the President for assent, he shall assent to the Bill in not later than ten days.If it is not a Money Bill, the President may return the Bill to the Majlis-e-Shoora with a message requesting that the Bill be reconsidered and that an amendment specified in the message be considered. The Majlis-e-Shoora shall reconsider the Bill in a joint sitting. If the Bill is passed again, with or without amendment, by vote of the majority of the members present and voting, it shall be presented to the President and the President shall give his assent within ten days; failing which such assent shall be deemed to have been given.

The above is from the National Assembly of Pakistan's website. He may not be able to block bills, but it seems that he can certainly delay and refer bills back to the assembly. He can effectively delay each bill by around a month (or more), which is plenty of valuable time when the government is only hanging by a thread.

Pti been consistent with their standings. So the resignations are no surprise at all, they will not work with/ or be constructive opponents with a selected puppet regime who have been put in place against the will of the Pakistani public who are coming out in masses like never before to reject these puppets.

Pakistan has a population of 220mn. It is not difficult for any major party to gather thousands.

There is a system and there is a constitution. One has to obey it. Its the same constitution that brought imran Khan to power and the same constitution removed him.

If he cannot respect the system when he is out of power, then i am sorry to say he deserves no power.

All talk and lot of noise from PTI but no action. If they actually wanted to resign then resign na, why just making empty statements.

PTI leader Farrukh Habib on Thursday said the resignations of 123 legislators of his party had been accepted by acting speaker of the National Assembly, Qasim Suri.

A notification has also been issued in this regard, the ex-minister said in a tweet.

Habib, a former state minister in the recently dissolved government of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, said general elections had now become inevitable in the country after the acceptance of resignations submitted by the PTI lawmakers.

In all, the PTI has 155 members in the 272-member House, of them, 20 are dissidents who have been served notices by the party. The decision of the remaining 12 lawmakers remains unclear.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Khan has written a letter to the ECP, saying that no member of the PTI should be nominated to any committee as the party lawmakers had already tendered their resignations from the lower house of the parliament on April 11.

"In the wake of foreign intervention into internal affairs of Pakistan and the events and circumstances related thereto, PTI decided not to be the part of the ultra-constitutional exercise of regime change and formation of an imported government," he wrote in the letter.

Imran pointed out that there was no representative of the PTI in the National Assembly, while defectors had already been proceeded against under Article 63-A of the Constitution

"I hereby withdraw all names given in the list to this commission in priority on women as well as minority seats. I, therefore, declare that PTI will not be a party to any proceedings, steps or action taken on its behalf on any forum and will outrightly reject any/all efforts to use the Name of PTI."

The PPP and the PML-N had on Wednesday accu*sed Suri of pressuring the NA Secretariat into sending resignations of the PTI MNAs to the election commission without meeting constitutional obligations.

The two parties — now in government — claimed that Suri had committed a violation of the Constitution by approving the resignations without listening to them in person.

Ayaz Sadiq had pointed out that the PTI was repeating the 2014 episode when its MNAs had resigned but were not ready to appear before him (the then NA speaker) for confirmation of their resignations.

Good start to force an election because the ECP lied to the SC and broke the law

ISLAMABAD / LAHORE: National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has decided to start the process of verification of the resignations of 123 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) by calling them individually or in small groups over the next few days as some two dozen MNAs belonging to the formerly ruling party approached him seeking a meeting to clarify their stance, Dawn has learnt.

Unlike the Centre, however, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who was a PTI-led coalition candidate for chief minister election, acted swiftly by sending a reference against 26 PTI MPAs to the ECP to declare their defection since they had voted for PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz in violation of their party discipline.

The PTI and PML-Q believe that the declaration of 26 MPAs’ defection would rob the joint opposition of its strength to compete for the chief minister’s election in the assembly. Both parties are putting the last-ditch effort to get the PTI dissidents defected by the ECP to make the election of PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz null and void and go for “run-off” election to win the province’s chief executive slot by a simple majority.

Sources in the NA Secretariat confirmed that a majority of the resignations submitted by the PTI MNAs were not handwritten and had a similar text printed on the PTI’s letterhead. They said the secretariat staff also had doubts over the signatures of some members as these were not matching with those on the assembly’s roll.

The sources disclosed that at least 25 PTI MNAs had separately written to Mr Ashraf, requesting for an appointment so that they could explain the circumstances under which they had to submit the resignations.

The decision to resign en mass from the assembly had been taken at the PTI’s parliamentary party meeting, chaired by Imran Khan, and it was announced by PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the floor of the assembly just minutes before PM’s election on April 11.

Former deputy speaker Qasim Suri, who was then functioning as the acting speaker, immediately accepted the resignations and directed the NA Secretariat to issue a notification. On April 14, the PTI had through social media released the NA Secretariat’s notification declaring that 123 party MNAs “resigned from their seats by writing under their hand” to the speaker. The notification, signed by NA Secretary Tahir Hussain, had declared that after submission of the resignations their seats had become vacant in terms of Article 64(1) of the Constitution, with effect from April 11.

The NA Secretariat officials had, however, remained tightlipped over the development.

When contacted, a senior official of the NA Secretariat said the notification that had been issued by the secretary was withheld as it was issued in a ‘controversial’ manner. Moreover, he said, the newly-elected speaker had already ordered de-sealing of the resignations and, therefore, the previous notification should be taken “as it has not been issued at all”.

The official made it clear that since the notification had not been forwarded to the ECP, it had no value and should be considered an internal matter of the secretariat.

Meanwhile, as per the parliamentary traditions, the National Assembly after abandoning its agenda paid tribute to late Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan, who died in Karachi on Tuesday after a brief illness. In their speeches, the members belonging to all the parties lauded the services of the late MNA who had been the member of the assembly since 2002.

Elahi writes to ECP

However, the situation was different in Punjab where Speaker Parvez Elahi sent a reference against 26 PTI MPAs, who voted in violation of their party directive, to the ECP to declare their defection. The 26 PTI MPAs had joined the PML-N on its opposition benches and voted for the opposition candidate Hamza Shehbaz at a stormy session in the Punjab Assembly on April 16.

The 26 PTI dissidents are: Raja Sagheer Ahmed, Malik Ghulam Rasool Sangha, Saeed Akbar Khan, Mohammad Ajmal, Faisal Hayat, Mahar Mohammad Aslam, Mian Khalid Mehmood, Abdul Aleem Khan, Nazir Ahmad Chohan, Amin Zulqernain, Malik Nauman Langrial, Mohammad Salman, Zawar Hussain Warraich, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Fida Hussain, Zahra Batool, Mohammad Tahir, Aisha Nawaz, Sajida Yousaf, Haroon Imran Gill, Uzma Kardar, Malik Asad Ali, Ijaz Masih, Sabtain Raza, Javeed Akhtar, Mohsin Atta Khan Khosa.

Soon after the polling for the election of chief minister, PTI secretary general Asad Umer had issued show-cause notices to the 26 MPAs. PTI chairman Imran Khan then sent separate references against each dissident to the Punjab Assembly speaker declaring that they had defected the party under Article 63A (1) (b)(i). The chairman said his “party’s 26 MPAs had left the parliamentary party of PTI and sided with the opposition as per division list for election of chief minister”.

In a tweet, Mr Elahi said the PTI had taken a bold stance by taking action against its dissident MPAs. “The ECP should take the references against the PTI dissident MPAs to the logical end at the earliest,” he added.

Interestingly, the scope of disqualification of a parliamentarian in case of defection under Article 63-A is still under discussion at the Supreme Court.

The deseating happened in Punjab Assembly. PTI hasn't tendered resignation from Punjab Assembly, they only resigned from National Assembly.

No and if this had happened in any other developed country, where there is democracy, a fresh election would have been called immediately.

Alas, there are far too many crooks and traitors in Pakistan that are there to protect their own interests.

PTI dissident MNA Raja Riaz Ahmad has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.

“Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf declares Raja Riaz Ahmad, MNA as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan under Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly,” read an official statement on Friday.

Ahmad submitted the application for the Leader of the Opposition signed by 16 lawmakers whereas Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) MNA Ghous Bux Khan Mahar also submitted the application for the post signed by six members, it added.

A notification in this respect has also been issued.

On April 10, the PTI announced it was resigning from the National Assembly minutes before the scheduled election of the new prime minister, paving the way for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to secure the coveted slot.

Last month, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) forwarded the name of Hussain Elahi to the National Assembly speaker for the coveted post of opposition leader in the lower house.

In a letter written to the NA speaker, the PML-Q - the largest party on the opposition benches after the former ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) quit the assembly - asked the speaker to appoint Elahi as the opposition leader.

The letter to the speaker has been signed by PML-Q lawmakers Moonis Elahi, Farah Khan, and Hussain Elahi himself.

ISLAMABAD: The coalition government is deliberating whether it should accept the resignations of PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Shireen Mazari from the Parliament.

The coalition parties believe that the three PTI leaders' resignation should be accepted as they had announced their decision to resign while addressing the lower house of the Parliament. Among the three lawmakers, Mazari is the only one who has been elected on a reserved seat for women from Punjab.

Sources say that the allied parties have advised that the three leaders' resignations should be accepted and by-elections should be held in their constituencies.

Sources also say that the PML-N’s allied parties have given Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif the right to decide whether the resignations should be accepted or rejected.

Officials privy to the development said that PM Shehbaz will share his decision on accepting the resignations very soon. It has also been decided that if by-elections are held, then joint candidates will be fielded in the constituencies.

Sources further maintained that apart from the three PTI lawmakers, no other Opposition MNA’s resignation has been verified.

Last month, former deputy speaker of National Assembly Qasim Suri accepted the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs after they decided to disassociate themselves from the lower house following the ouster of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from the office of the prime minister.

Khan was ousted through a no-confidence motion brought against him by the then joint opposition, a move that the PTI called a "foreign conspiracy" hatched by the United States. The allegation, however, has been categorically denied by the superpower.

After being removed from the office, the former premier asked his MNAs to tender their resignations and refuse to accept the newly elected premier, saying "there can't be any bigger insult to this country".

the PTI's MNAs had tendered their resignations to the deputy speaker hours before the election of Shehbaz Sharif as the new prime minister

It would be a good move on part of PDM. However rest assured I can see PTI going to court on this decision as asking all 123 members resignation to be accepted as all of them announced their desire to resign and would be happy to fulfill any requirement of speaker to ensure their resignations are met. It would be all resignations vs zero resignations PDM cannot pick and choose here. We all know ECP cannot conduct elections on 123 seats so don't see PDM going down resignations route anytime soon.

National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday summoned PTI MNAs — who had quit en masse in the aftermath of their government's ouster last month, to confirm the "voluntary character and genuineness" of their resignation letters.

The NA speaker summoned the party legislators on June 6, the assembly's spokesperson said in a statement, adding that the total number of MNAs who had resigned stood at 131.

The lawmakers had resigned on April 11, two days after former prime minister Imran Khan was ousted from the top office after the no-confidence motion moved by the joint opposition in the parliament against him succeeded.

According to the NA spokesperson, the letters have been dispatched to the MNAs, informing them about the pre-condition of their appearance for acceptance of the resignations.

"I am directed to refer to the letter dated 11-4-2022 regarding your resignation from the seat of the National Assembly and to state that in pursuance of paragraph (b) of sub-rule (2) of rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, Honourable Speaker has desired to invite you in his Chamber for inquiry regarding voluntary character and genuineness of aforesaid resignation letter before its acceptance," reads the letter sent to the PTI MNAs.

The NA spokesperson said the process for confirmation of the resignations will continue till June 10. "As many as 30 members will meet the NA speaker on a daily basis."

Each legislator will be granted five minutes for the confirmation of the resignation, the official added.

In all, the PTI has 155 members in the 272-member House. Of them, 20 are dissidents who have been served notices by the party.

After Imran Khan was removed as prime minister on the night of April 9, his declarations against the dissident PTI MNAs were sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan on April 14 by the acting NA speaker.

The PTI had also filed references against 20 MNAs seeking their disqualification.

In its verdict on the petitions on May 11, the ECP decided against de-seating 20 dissident PTI lawmakers, dismissing references against them sent by the party.

In its unanimous decision, a three-member bench of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja held that Article 63-A of the Constitution dealing with lawmakers’ disqualification on the grounds of defection did not apply to the 20 PTI MNAs who had jumped ship ahead of the no-confidence move last month.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday that the party did not have any intention of returning to the National Assembly, asserting that the incumbent speaker did not have the authority to review the resignations of party members after they had been accepted by the previous speaker.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Hammad Azhar, he said that the party considered parliament to be "occupied".

"They have taken possession of the assembly and we don't have any intention of returning.

"We are of the opinion that the NA speaker has accepted the resignations of our lawmakers and this speaker does not have the authority to review [the decision]."

Meanwhile, party leader Farrukh Habib reiterated that PTI lawmakers had resigned from the lower house of parliament. "At the time, Qasim Suri had issued a notification accepting the resignations," he said.

"There is no need for further action," Habib said, alleging that the resignations were illegally being postponed.

PTI lawmakers had resigned en masse from NA on April 11, two days after former prime minister Imran Khan was ousted from the top office after the no-confidence motion moved by the joint opposition in the parliament against him succeeded. The resignations were accepted by the former acting speaker, Qasim Suri, and a notification to this effect was also issued by the NA secretariat.

However, a few days later on April 16, newly elected NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf directed the NA secretariat to de-seal the resignations and present them to him so that he could verify these personally and deal with them in "accordance with the law". Subsequently, according to a senior official of the NA secretariat, the previous notification of approving the resignations should be taken “as it has not been issued at all”.

Finally, on Monday, NA Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf summoned a group of PTI lawmakers to confirm the "voluntary character and genuineness" of their resignation letters.

According to a spokesman for the NA Secretariat, the speaker had decided to meet 30 MNAs to complete the process by June 10 — the day the new coalition government is set to present the budget for the next fiscal year. The speaker has allocated five minutes for each member.

Separately, PTI leader Shireen Mazari told Dawn.com that the party's members had decided they would not appear before the NA speaker for the verification of their resignations. "Our resignations have already been accepted by Suri," she said.

PTI to approach human rights organisations against violence
During today's press conference, Fawad also lashed out at the government for the thuggery against PTI protesters leading up to and during its May 25 Azadi March. He maintained that the party was compiling a video of the brutality and would raise the issue at the international level.

"We are also filing criminal complaints in Pakistan," he said, adding that such violence was not even carried out in dictatorships. Fawad said that the videos would then be sent to international human rights commissions.

He also took exception to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah's press conference from earlier today, saying: "If you close your eyes and listen to him, it seems as though Altaf Hussain is speaking."

He alleged that the government fired at unarmed protesters, including women, and was now trying to manipulate the narrative. He maintained that the PTI allowed political parties to stage protests during their tenure, adding that Imran directed authorities to provide the protesters with facilities.

He also questioned why the Supreme Court was not constituting a commission to probe the "regime change conspiracy", noting that President Dr Arif Alvi had also written to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial in this regard.

"Why is it not being probed?" he asked.

Amid reports that Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi has asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to reconsider its decision of resigning en masse from the National Assembly, PTI chairman and former premier Imran Khan ruled out the possibility of withdrawing their resignations from the National Assembly.

In a meeting with court reporters and digital journalists in Peshawar, Imran said the PTI would not return to parliament and he termed the speaker’s summons to PTI lawmakers to verify their resignation letters a “big trap”.

Imran said his party would approach the Supreme Court for its right to protest. “Our strategy for the next long march would be dependent on the SC's decision on the petition which would be filled tomorrow by our legal team,” he added.

Imran also rejected the alleged audio clip of property tycoon Malik Riaz wherein he was conveying Imran’s message to PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari for a deal ahead of the no-confidence motion against him.

Speaking about the appointment of the army chief, Imran said he did not know about the candidates nor did he think about the procedure. He claimed there were “individuals within institutions” who had “opinions on certain issues”. However, he did not name the individuals.

It was observed that his approach towards the establishment during the meeting remained cautious. “Only the army and the PTI can keep Pakistan intact,” he opined.

The former premier claimed that he came under pressure during his government to recognise Israel. He did not name who put pressure on him, saying he would not want to name them.

The PTI chairman, who alleges an American conspiracy behind his removal from the office, said the incumbent government wanted to “recognise Israel and build good ties with India” at the behest of the United States.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has stopped his party’s lawmakers from appearing before National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for confirmation of resignations.

“We have already resigned and an announcement [in this regard] was made on the floor of the National Assembly, there is no need to go there [to the house] for confirmation of resignations,” Mr Khan said while speaking to digital media practitioners on Tuesday.

Returning to the assembly would give an impression that the PTI had accepted “the imported government”, he said, asserting that no member should go to the assembly individually.

The NA speaker earlier decided to start verification of the resignations of 131 PTI and Awami Muslim League (AML) members from June 6 to confirm if they all are ‘voluntary’ and ‘genuine’. According to sources in the assembly secretariat, most of the resignations, printed on PTI’s letterhead, had the same text whereas the signatures of some members did not match those on the assembly’s roll.

Mr Khan told the digital media influencers that the PTI would fully participate in Punjab by-polls on July 20 in the constituencies that fell vacant after the ECP de-seated the MPAs for their desertion during the CM election.

In the next general election, he said, his party would emerge victorious with a two-thirds majority and get a bigger share of seats in Sindh.

Dispelling the impression of any deal for cutting short his protest at D-Chowk on May 25, he said he had to withdraw from the protest venue to prevent bloodshed in Islamabad and announced that the PTI would move the SC on Wednesday to seek protection for the ‘right to peaceful protest’.

He claimed that the PTI government was under “immense pressure from certain quarters to recognise Israel”. “A message was conveyed to me to think for the benefit of your country,” he said, adding that he would not disclose where did the message come from.

About the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, Mr Khan said it was better to abolish the anti-graft watchdog rather than appointing a new chairman with the consultation of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz.

Separately, addressing a joint presser with ex-minister Hammad Azhar in Islamabad, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said government dignitaries had made 17 foreign trips in just 40 days, despite the financial crunch that the country had been facing.

Mr Chaudhry said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left on his sixth foreign trip, whereas tens of millions of rupees had been spent on the 17 foreign trips made by ministers. He said Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari initially went to the UAE, then the US. He recalled that Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel went to Geneva, Sherry Rehman also made two to three foreign trips. Shazia Marri had also gone abroad, he recounted.

Also, Prime Minister Sharif had declared five camp offices, which would be run from exchequer, he said.

The ex-minister said the Haj operation was decided during the PTI tenure, yet its charges were initially increased and then rental agreements of buildings were renegotiated.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday warned the PTI against announcing another long march, giving a strong indication that its workers and supporters will not be allowed to enter Islamabad again.

In a tweet, hours after a cabinet meeting, he said that in case the PTI were to embark on another march, "I’ll see how they cross the barriers this time."

Sanaullah's warning came after the PTI staged its "Haqeeqi Azadi March" last week when its supporters dislodged containers placed to impede their advances and braved tear-gas shelling to somehow reach the D-Chowk in the capital, only to see party chairman Imran Khan call off plans to convert the march into a sit-in.

The PTI lashed out at the interior minister's message, saying he was "threatening peaceful protesters". It said the nation would always exhibit its bravery and would not be stopped by "slaves".

Earlier in the day while addressing a press conference in Islamabad after the cabinet meeting, the interior minister came down hard on the PTI. State resources were used to further the political agenda of Imran Khan, he alleged, adding that armed police officials from KP were illegally added to the army of the "criminal gang".

He went on to say that in order to further the "criminal political agenda", polarise the nation and mislead the youth, this armed gang attacked the centre and headed towards Islamabad.

"When they were stopped at Attock, Mianwali and within Islamabad city limits, they opened fire at police officials," he said, adding that the protesters also removed obstacles placed to deter them.

The minister went on to say that the party misled the Supreme Court and obtained a favourable order, which allowed them to stage a protest at Islamabad's H-9 park.

"[The order] was implemented and we made arrangement for them to stage the protest but then that was not their objective. Their objective was not to carry out any political activity. Their objective was to enter Islamabad and spread chaos and anarchy. Their objective was to seize the capital city and make the government dysfunctional," he said.

He alleged that all the protesters that gathered at D-Chowk belonged to "the same province" and had arrived in Islamabad a day before.

"We have marked all the buildings and hotels [where they stayed], we are noting in our report the details of where these people came from and where they stayed," he said, adding that some also stayed at Parliament Lodges and KP House.

Sana claimed that police had only used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse protesters, asserting that they did not fire a single shot.

The minister said that he had proposed to the federal cabinet that permission be given for cases against PTI leaders.

He said the federal government would have to grant permission for this as it was the competent authority, adding that the cabinet had proposed a sub-committee to analyse the facts.

"If my stance has any weight, then the committee will inform the cabinet of its decision," he said, reiterating that there was evidence to support the PTI's true intentions. "I am hopeful that the case will be registered and this group will be prosecuted."

Committee to deal with anti-state activities
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday constituted a five-member committee to chalk out a plan of action to deal with anti-state activities as the federal cabinet expressed concerns over recent statements by PTI leaders regarding the party's Azadi March.

Sanaullah and Adviser on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira are among the members of the committee.

During the meeting, the cabinet expressed grave concerns over the recent statement of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. A day earlier, Khan had said that he would use the full force of KP when PTI chief Imran Khan gives the next call for protest.

The meeting also took notice of Imran’s remarks in the buildup to his party's recent march as well as his admission that some of the protestors were armed.

Future anti-state marches to be dealt with 'iron hand'
The federal cabinet was assured that any anti-state long march in the future would be dealt with an iron hand. The interior minister also informed the meeting's participants that the PTI's Azadi March was an "anti-state conspiracy" and not a political activity.

He alleged that it was an "armed attack on the state" under the guise of political activity, and claimed that no law enforcement official was carrying a weapon at the site of the march.

PM Shehbaz said that he had also directed the interior ministry and law enforcement agencies to not carry weapons at the march venue.

The cabinet felicitated the nation on "rejecting" Imran's Azadi March and lauded law enforcement agencies for "performing their duties efficiently".

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the PTI utilised the resources of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government by assembling armed groups at KP House a day before the march, while the Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister attacked police personnel.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected the PTI and PML-N petitions, and stayed the notification of new MPAs on five seats of Punjab Assembly reserved for women and minorities after they fell vacant following the de-seating of 25 PTI dissident lawmakers, until the by-polls on them are held.

The five vacant seats include three seats of women and two of minorities.

Last month, the seats fell vacant following the ECP’s decision to de-seat 25 dissident lawmakers of the party for defying party directives and voting for PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz for the post of Punjab chief minister.

Following this, the PTI knocked on the doors of the Lahore High Court (LHC) with a prayer to pass directions to the ECP for notifying the five new MPAs.

A five-member bench of the ECP on Thursday announced the ruling which was reserved earlier in the day in line with the LHC order.

The decision had been reserved after arguments by the PTI and PML-N counsels.

The ECP while staying the notification of new MPAs on reserved seats of Punjab Assembly stated that it would be issued after by-elections on them are held.

The election supervisor rejected the PTI’s plea to notify members of five reserved seats in the provincial assembly and also turned down the PML-N’s request to distribute them according to the number of party seats.

During the hearing, Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf contended that if a party had less representation in the assembly it would have reduced number of reserved seats.

He asked the ECP to notify the members on reserved seats after the by-elections.

By-elections on 20 general seats of Punjab Assembly are scheduled to be held on July 17.

According to the ECP’s decision, the reserved seats will be distributed under proportional representation after the by-polls.

Responding to the development, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry censured the ECP and said the party would challenge its verdict in the Supreme Court.

Another party leader Farrukh Habib maintained that the electoral body’s decision was an “open violation” of Article 224(6) of constitution, adding that those de-seated on the reserved seats should have been notified.

Meanwhile, a petition on Thursday was filed in the Supreme Court against the election supervisor’s decision to de-seat the dissident members from Punjab Assembly.

The constitutional petition filed by Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta stated that the decision of the election supervisor was against the Constitution and law.

It said that under Article 63-A of the Constitution the issue of bringing to justice dissident MPAs should be decided be parliament.

The applicant requested the court to do away with the disqualification of the de-seated members and allow them to sit in the assembly.

The court was further asked to suspend the ECP’s decision until the petition was decided.

ISLAMABAD: The PML-N-led federal government has agreed to issue phase-wise approval of resignations tendered by PTI MNAs, ARY News reported, citing sources.

According to details, the ruling coalition has formulated a strategy on the issue of the resignation of the PTI MNAs. The government coalition has agreed to accept phase-wise resignations of the PTI lawmakers.

Sources said that formal action is likely to be taken on the issue of resignations from June 6 and attempts are underway to convince 25 to 30 PTI MNAs to take back their resignations.

The fate of the resignations of 123 MNAs of the PTI is hanging in the balance as neither have they appeared before the National Assembly speaker, nor has he accepted them and informed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which would then hold by-elections to fill the vacant seats.

The resignations are pending with NA Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf. He had given a ruling that the resignations would only be accepted after the PTI MNAs appear in person before him and verified if they were “genuine and voluntary”.

The PTI MNAs had announced en masse resignations moments before Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the new prime minister on April 11 -- a day after PTI chairman and former premier Imran Khan was voted out from the coveted slot through a no-confidence motion.

The PTI leaders say that their resignations were accepted by then deputy speaker Qasim Suri on April 14 Suri had made the decision in his capacity as the acting speaker.

However, the succeeding government made it clear that the resignations could not be considered valid unless they were verified.

Ashraf’s ruling had opened up the ‘chapter of the resignations' and it was conjectured that the process of verification would ‘deliberately’ take some time to give the newly-formed government some time to settle down.

Subsequently, the NA Secretariat had sent letters to all those who had resigned on April 11.

Paragraph (b) of Sub Rule (2) of Rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, reads that each lawmaker would get five minutes to individually confirm if they resigned voluntarily.

However, no one appeared before Ashraf between June 6 and June 10 as former PM Imran had termed the move as a “major trap”.

The issue had surfaced after PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq had claimed on the floor of the House that several PTI MNAs called him to say that their resignations should not be accepted as they were given under pressure.

Sadiq, who has served as an NA speaker, had said that the verification was crucial as the resignations were given on cyclostyle papers when the rules stated that they should be in the members’ own handwriting.

Secondly, he had said, individual verification had not taken place -- an imperative part of the process.

Speculations were also swirling that three months after resigning, the PTI was reconsidering its decision to quit the assembly.

However, the PTI leaders are adamant that they had already resigned and would not return to the assembly before fresh general elections were held.

Imran has been claiming that his exit from the post was part of a “foreign conspiracy” plotted in Washington to overthrow his government with the help of the opposition parties.

After his ouster from the slot, he had asked his party’s MNAs to tender their resignations and refused to accept newly elected PM Shehbaz.

Since then the majority of PTI MNAs have not attended the assembly sessions while those who did not resign are sitting on the opposition benches along with a few others.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday challenged the phase-wise acceptance of resignations of its members of the National Assembly (MNA) in the Islamabad High Court.

PTI leader Asad Umar filed an official petition against the NA speaker over the slow progress in the acceptance of the party’s MNAs’ resignations.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, the former minister said that the PTI was “going to file a major reference against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)” as he alleged that the commission had itself “become a political party, which is unacceptable to us”.

“The NA speaker has no authority to block the resignations,” he lamented, pleading that “after three and a half months, 11 resignations were cherry-picked”.

Protesting the “spectacle” that had been made of the matter, Umar said that on April 11, 125 of the PTI’s MNAs had stated on the floor of the House that they had resigned, and “on April 13, [then] deputy speaker Qasim Suri accepted the resignations. [Then] what authority did the ECP have not to accept all the resignations for three months?” he questioned while standing outside the court.

It is pertinent to note that Suri, in his capacity as the acting speaker, on April 13 had accepted the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs, who had accepted their party chairman Imran Khan’s appeal after his removal from the office of the prime minister through a no-confidence motion earlier in April.

However, on April 17, the newly elected NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf directed the assembly secretariat to deal with the resignations of the PTI lawmakers afresh and present them before him so that they could be treated as per law.

The ruling of the 22nd speaker of the assembly had come amid claims and speculations that some of the PTI lawmakers had been willing to retract and have been conveying messages that their resignations should not be accepted.

Later on, in June, the ruling coalition had formulated a strategy on the matter of en masse resignation of PTI lawmakers from the National Assembly and agreed to proceed with phase-wise acceptance.

Meanwhile, parliamentary sources had disclosed that about 30 members of the former ruling party did not want to resign from the legislature and added that these lawmakers can directly reach out to the NA speaker to stop the acceptance of their resignations.

Nonetheless, the second phase of processing the PTI resignations is to begin this week. In this regard, the speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf will take a decision today after further consultation with the ruling coalition along with legal and constitutional experts.

Sources say that there is a strong possibility that the resignation of 11 PTI members belonging to the districts of South Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be accepted by the speaker.

Furthermore, the resignations of members from Malakund and Layyah are also planned to be accepted along with the resignations of some women members on special seats.

However, the resignations of PTI central leadership, including Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Murad Saeed have not been accepted yet.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan has rejected to return to the National Assembly (NA) and said that there was no option other than fresh polls, ARY News reported on Monday.

Imran Khan chaired the session of the PTI parliamentary party today. The participants of the PTI parliamentary party session discussed the political situation of the country.

Sources told ARY News that the parliamentary party rejected to return to the assembly at any cost and decided to not accept any option other than fresh polls.

Imran Khan issued instructions to the parliamentary party to commence preparations for elections. “PTI leaders should reach the nationals. The current rulers want to spread fear among the people. I will not step back from the struggle for real independence.”

Imran Khan, PTI parliamentary party, by-polls, fresh polls
Moreover, the PTI chief apprised the parliamentary party members about the next strategy. During the session, PTI Secretary-General Asad Umar assigned tasks to the members and formed teams for taking part in forthcoming by-elections.

Sources said that Khan will activate the PTI workers before addressing the upcoming public gatherings. “Whole party will participate in the electioneering of the by-polls which will be contested following the same strategy of Punjab by-elections,” sources added.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has devised a strategy to mount pressure on the federal government to refrain from arresting the party chief Imran Khan.

Sources said that Asad Umar informed the parliamentary party members about the strategy. He expressed hope that Khan will not be arrested but in another case, there will be a lockdown in all cities if the PTI chief is arrested.

“District presidents have already been briefed about the procedure of locking down the cities. All PTI workers will head toward Islamabad on the next day after observing lockdown.”

A Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akram expressed his views that PTI would be stronger if it is present in the NA. To this, Khan replied that PTI will lose public support if its lawmakers chose to stay in the assembly.

PTI women leaders meet Imran Khan
The former women lawmakers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called on Imran Khan. They exchanged views on the political situation, organisational activities and strategy.

They strongly condemned crackdowns on PTI and media censorship initiated by the coalition government. Imran Khan thanked PTI leaders for providing the right guidance and best leadership amid the political instability in the country.

The PTI chief said that they believe in expanding the scope of democracy to all segments of society. He praised that women exhibited courage and determination in the real independence struggle and the completion of the best political process was impossible without the role of women.

He vowed that PTI will empower women’s role in national affairs and the struggle will provide real independence to the country. Khan asked the women should prepare themselves for leading the national and parliamentary affairs in the coming days.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared unconstitutional former deputy speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri's acceptance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs resignations.

The court was hearing a petition filed by the PTI against the present National Assembly (NA) speaker's decision to “phase-wise” accept the resignations of PTI's MNAs.

The court also rejected PTI’s counsel Faisal Chaudhry’s request to place the case before a larger bench.

It is pertinent to note that Suri, in his capacity as the acting speaker, on April 13, had accepted the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs, who had accepted their party chairman Imran Khan’s appeal after his removal from the office of the prime minister through a no-confidence motion earlier in April.

However, on April 17, the then newly elected NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf had directed the assembly secretariat to deal with the resignations of the PTI lawmakers afresh and present them before him so that they could be treated as per law.

The NA Speaker on July 28 had then accepted the resignations of 11 PTI members exactly 109 days after they resigned from their seats.

During today's proceedings, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that “our decision on the matter already exists; we had ruled that we will not intervene in political matters”, while adding that only the NA speaker could settle the issue. “The courts cannot do anything,” he observed.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhry in response accepted that the court has “never interfered in parliamentary affairs” and added that “we also respect the Parliament but it cannot be that they accept resignations in phases”

“If they are to accept them, then they must accept all 123 resignations at once,” he said.

However, the court observed that “at the time 34 members had resigned”, but the PTI lawyer said that Suri at the time was serving as the acting speaker when he accepted the 123 resignations and “not a single member challenged it”.

CJ Minallah nonetheless held that the court “will not give instructions to the speaker”. He also observed that Speaker Ashraf had called “each member and accepted their resignations. Deputy Speaker [Suri] did not follow the rules of accepting resignations. He should have called every member and asked them separately”. The IHC judge also told the PTI lawyer to take the party’s request to the NA Speaker.

“He is a minority Speaker, we don’t go to him,” the advocate responded, upon this the court said that, “You need to change your mindset and respect the Parliament”.

“Surely, the Speaker would have accepted the 11 resignations after satisfying any doubts. This confidence of the Speaker cannot be challenged in court,” the judge added.

“Send any member to the Speaker, there should be no hesitation in that,” CJ Minallah continued.

“We have reservations, that is why we have come to court,” retorted Faisal Chaudhry.

“The deputy speaker could not have accepted the resignations collectively, contrary to the Constitution and the court's decision. It is an admitted fact that the deputy speaker did not approve the en masse resignations in the prescribed manner,” the CJ remarked.

Also read President Alvi distances himself from Imran's COAS statement

“Everyone is bound before the Constitution and law,” he added as he told the PTI counsel that each resigning member should appear before the speaker individually and confirm their resignation.

The PTI lawyer still pleaded that the then deputy speaker had accepted the party members' resignations on which the court remarked that Suri’s notification was unconstitutional.

It may be noted here that on April 7 in a landmark unanimous ruling, the Supreme Court had set aside NA Deputy Speaker Suri’s ruling to dismiss the no-trust resolution against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the subsequent dissolution of the lower house of parliament by President Arif Alvi on the premier’s advice.

“The ruling of the deputy speaker of the NA in relation to the resolution for a vote of no-confidence against the prime minister under Article 95 of the Constitution are declared to be contrary to the Constitution and the law and of no legal effect, and the same are hereby set aside,” the top court had said in its short order.

As the IHC rejected former acting speaker Suri’s notification regarding the PTI MNAs' resignations unconstitutional today, the party’s lawyer argued that “if elections are to be held, they should be conducted in all 123 constituencies”.

However, dismissing the PTI’s petition, CJ Minallah reminded the lawyer that elections were an expensive endeavor. “It is not good to resign whenever you feel like it and then go on and contest elections,“ the IHC CJ stated.

De-seated Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers on Wednes*day claimed before the Islam*abad High Court (IHC) that the speaker of the Natio*nal Assembly had treated their “en masse letters” as a resignation and recommended their de-notification to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In a departure from their previous demand that their resignations be accepted for*thwith, PTI leaders Dr Shireen Mazari, Ali Mohammad Khan, Farrukh Habib, Shandana Gulzar, Fazal Mohammd, Shaukat Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Ijaz Shah, Jameel Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Akram have moved the high court against the approval of their ‘resignations’ by the NA speaker and Election Commission of Pakistan.

PTI has already challenged the NA speaker’s decision of accepting resignations of its 10 MNAs before the Supreme Court.

On Sept 6, the IHC dismissed a petition in this regard, prompting the party to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

Another petition before IHC claims their letters were part of ‘political move’ to secure fresh elections

In their fresh plea before the high court, the PTI members argue that after the change of their government through a foreign conspiracy, the leadership took a policy decision to protest against the party’s ouster from office.

“To seek a fresh mandate from… people, the party decided to get all its elected members resigned en bloc from the National Assem*bly,” the petition said.

The party was of the view that the speaker was under obligation to accept the resignations of all 123 MNAs who had quit the lower house of parliament to protest the ouster of their party’s government “through a conspiracy”.

The petition filed by the 10 lawmakers on Wednes*day, however, stated: “The speaker of the National Assembly vide decision dated July 28, 2022 without any due [inquiry] nor any verification from the petitioners, treated the letters from the petitioners as “resignation”, final and binding” and forwarded these to the ECP who de-notified 11 members on the next date.

Read: How ‘U-turn’ on quitting NA may play into govt’s hands

The petition stated that these lawmakers “acted upon the directions of the party and for the political objective only of arriving at an agreement with the opposition parties for holding of fresh elections… the resignations was subject to all the 123 members of the National Assembly belonging to PTI resigning and being de-seated jointly and as a whole.”

According to the petition, the resignations were “conditional upon and subject to all the 123 members, who had sent letters of resignation being de-seated as a whole and jointly.”

The petition said that the speaker was under obligation to verify the resignation to ascertain whether these were “voluntary and genuine and whether the same was intended to act as a resignation” alleging that the speaker had, in connivance with government functionaries, unilaterally approved these resignations.

“Hence, the impugned orders accepting the resignations of the petitioners and de-seating [them] and ordering holding of elections are all contrary to the Constitution and illegal and liable to be set aside,” the petition went on to say.

The PTI lawmakers insisted that their “letters were not resignations… the petitioners were not willing to proceed with the resignation which is not final and binding but conditional.”

The petition also referred to the recently-surfaced audio leaks and claimed that the incumbent prime minister, his cabinet and senior PML-N leaders had hatched a conspiracy for “piecemeal” acceptance of PTI’s resignations and that the speaker was also part of that plot.

It is worth noting that the party has also urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the audio leaks and, through a petition, has sought strict action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and some others for “violating their oath and the Constitution”.

PTI Chairman and former premier Imran Khan on Thursday categorically stated that his party would not go back to the National Assembly and launched a diatribe against the chief election commissioner (CEC), saying he would not appear before him “under any circumstances” in the cases against him.

Last month, the Supreme Court had seconded the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) advice to the PTI as it urged the party to rejoin the parliament.

The top court was hearing a petition filed by the PTI challenging the IHC’s judgment where the court had termed the phased acceptance of party resignations by the National Assembly speaker as legal.

Lawmakers from the former ruling party had resigned en masse from the National Assembly on April 11, following the ouster of Imran as the premier through a no-confidence motion.

Talking to beat reporters in the federal capital, the PTI chairman while referring to the recent audio leaks said he was “grateful” to the government for reviving the issue of cipher.

“It is clearly mentioned in the cipher that Imran Khan should be removed [from top office]. How come those who benefitted from the cipher can investigate it?” he asked.

Imran said the PTI would not go back to the National Assembly “under any circumstances”, adding that the incumbent regime was not democratic but “criminal”.

The PTI chairman challenged the government to hold “open hearing” of the Toshakhana reference.

The reference was filed against Imran by the coalition government, for "not sharing details" of Toshakhana gifts and proceeds from their alleged sale.

Imran said the PTI would go for general elections in the country, adding that they would succeed in the by-polls “no matter what tactic the government employed to rig the ballot”.

The PTI chief vowed to come with “full strength” in the haqiqi azadi march (real freedom march), saying a “sea of people” would participate in it and that “nobody can stop”.

Imran alleged that the CEC was a “tool of political engineering”, adding that he carried out delimitation of constituencies in connivance with the PML-N.

The PTI chairman said he would not appear before the CEC “under any circumstances” and “feared of doing something” after which he is sent to “jail”.

He called the CEC a “dishonest” and “biased” person and said that he did want to see the “face of this running sore”.

He said the CEC should have ethically resigned after the audio leaks. “The audio leaks proved that they were collusion between the PML-N and the election commission.”

“Chief election commissioner played a central role in stopping the EVMs,” he added.

Imran warned of dire consequences if “fair” elections were not held in the country.

He said he was “100 per cent sure” that a plan was in offing to disqualify him.

The former premier said that a “big revolution” would strike Sindh during the elections and that the PPP will not be able to succeed in interior of the province. “The flood in Sindh has swept away the PPP,” he said.

Responding to a question, Imran said he was astounded to see the support of people after his ouster from the top office.

“I did not watch TV or [used] mobile phone after the no-confidence motion [succeeded] as it was a part of my training when I played cricket to not watch TV or read a newspaper after losing a match,” he said.

“Bushra Bibi showed me on her mobile how people were on the streets [in my favour whereas] there was a black out on TV. I was astonished to see the [support of] people on social media.”

Later, the ECP in a statement rejected the allegations hurled by the PTI chairman and termed them a “pile of lies”.

LHC SUSPENDS ECP NOTIFICATION TO DENOTIFY 43 PTI LAWMAKERS

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notification that de-notified 43 MNAs of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported.

LHC judge Justice Shahid Karim heard the case and restricted the commission from holding by-elections in the 43 constituencies until further orders.

The court also issued notices to the federal government, NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The LHC issued directives on a plea filed by Riaz Fatyana, Nasarullah Khan, and other PTI leaders challenging the acceptance of their resignations as MNAs by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

In the petition, the PTI leaders accused the NA speaker of accepting resignations to ‘politically victimize’ the opponents. They pleaded with the court to nullify the decision of speaker Raja Pervaiz Asharaf and the order of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

ECP order
On Jan 25, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified 43 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly (MNAs) following the acceptance of their resignations by NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

After the announcement of PTI MNAs’ return to the National Assembly, the federal government made a move to accept their resignations in an apparent bid to reduce the number of opposition lawmakers.

PTI MNAS LIKELY TO ATTEND TODAY’S NA SESSION

The 43 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, who were restored following LHC ruling, have decided to attend today’s National Assembly (NA) session, ARY News reported on Thursday citing sources.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order de-notifying 43 PTI MNAs and restrained the by-polls in those constituencies.

Sources privy to the development told ARY News that PTI MNAs will gather at chamber of Senate’s opposition leader chamber and will wait for Imran Khan’s call to attend today’s lower house session.

LHC SUSPENDS ECP’S NOTIFICATION TO DENOTIFY PTI MNAS

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notification that de-notified 43 MNAs of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported on Monday.

As per details, PTI filed a plea against the acceptance of resignations from the national assembly. The Lahore high court also restricted the commission from holding by-elections in the 71 constituencies until further orders.

Furthermore, the court adjourned the case till March 7 and issued notices to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), speaker National Assembly and others.

Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) moved the Lahore High Court against the acceptance of 70 MNAs’ resignations, by Na Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

The PTI MNAs, including Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Khattak and others had challenged the acceptance of their resignations as MNAs by NA speaker.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had announced resignations from the National Assembly on April 11 last year, minutes before the election of Shehbaz Sharif as the new prime minister.
