DI KHAN: Few days after the suicide attack on the Awami National Party (ANP)’s corner meeting where its central leader and election candidate Haroon Bilour was martyred along with 19 others, another political party comes under fire in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), this time Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ikramullah Khan Gandapur was injured in a suicide bombing on the outskirts Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.
The PK-99 candidate was on his way to a corner meeting when the suicide bomber targeted his vehicle near Kolachi area injuring Gandapur, his driver and two policemen, DPO DI Khan said.
He added that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police had assigned 13 gunmen for the PTI leader’s security, however, he chose to travel without alerting local authorities. The security forces had conveyed death threats to Gandapur on Saturday.
Gandapur served as minister for agriculture and livestock in during PTI’s tenure in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). His brother, Israrullah Gandapur, who served as law minister was killed in a bomb blast at their residence in October 2013.
