A Lahore-based leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has issued an apology after he came under fire on social media for putting up banners that contained text deemed offensive to Hindus.

The banners featuring the image of Mian Akram Usman, the PTI Lahore general secretary, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah were put were up in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, which was observed across the country on February 5.

The poster was accompanied by the text "Hindu baat ne nahi, laat se maanta hai" (Hindus cannot be reasoned with using words but by force).

After coming under criticism on social media, Usman took to Twitter to apologise to "all peacefully living 'Hindus' [on] both sides of the border".

When approached for a comment, Usman told DawnNewsTV that he had asked his printer to prepare posters in connection with Kashmir day which should have text critical of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The printer "misunderstood" and replaced the word "Modi" with "Hindu" on the banners, the PTI office-bearer claimed.

Dawn.com is trying to reach the concerned printing service for comment.

Later, while responding to a Twitter user, Usman said the posters had been removed "immediately" after they came to his notice. "I'm not the one who [gets] stuck on mistakes," he wrote.

Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari in a tweet on Thursday said the PTI general secretary had been "reprimanded and posters were taken off immediately".

She termed it "a shameful and ignorant approach by the individual".

Yes, dog ate my homework.

First Fayyaz Chauhan and now him. Unfortunately, these are not individual beliefs.

This reflects the mentality of PTI and the lowlifes with no morality or decency that they have accumulated under the banner of tabdeeli.

While these are indeed very ignorant and offensive comments, it is encouraging that there was enough social media pressure to force him to apologise. Those who have the nerve to call PTI lowlifes with no moral decency should reflect that they have offered words of admiration for Indian politicians who have been far more militant in their ethnic rhetoric.

The positive is that social media is calling tham out, so I take this as a good thing

You are not the clown, you are the whole circus.

Pakistanis need to stop using ’Hindus’ and ’Indians’ interchangeably.

PTI unfortunately has quite a lot of bigoted people in their party. Letting Fayyaz Chohan get back into the party was a huge mistake.

And what does it say about the mentality of those people who choose to support Maulana Fazlur Rehman and JUI-F who are not only religious bigots, but also sexists?

Unfortunately these guys are trying to emulate BJP's type of racist politics. Bring in India into local punjab politics to score cheap points. Stick to solving local people's issues.

Did I say PPP have high morals?

A silly man, good to see hes apologised though and rectified his mistake

Try and look up the meaning of the word "generalization"

"Hindus cannot be reasoned with using words but by force".

This applies to pretty much anyone on the face of Earth. Force has been used as a way of getting things done ever since humans existed.

Regardless if you support PTI or not, such disgusting language shouldn’t be tolerated.

It’s indicative of ignorant society that refuses introspection.

Imagine the outrage if such language was used in the west, and the focus was Muslims?

Try to show some humanity rather than apologise for institutional discrimination.

Do you want his head on a platter ?

He was forced to apologize.

There are rich countries where such behavior is encouraged.

Point proven?

Just because I am discouraging violence instead education and acceptance of apology after people realized they have made a mistake?

Your apologetics.

You’re not discouraging anything.

Simply validating the status quo.

Humanity and civility is accepting or at least pretend to accept someone apology after they have realized what they had done wrong.

Most Pakistanis do not understand the difference between Hindu's and Hindutva. This is similar to Jews and Zionists. One would expect IK's fan club to be more wary of such things.

No thanks.

I’d rather stand up against prejudice than whitewash it.

The person apologized, he was reprimanded by senior leaders in the party, and the posters were removed.

What else can be done?

Maybe address the route cause, the prejudice in our society.

A good way to know people feel is by the leaders that they elect in a fair election. Pakistan, whether its PPP, PML N, or PTI, since the Musharraf era have not said anything negative for the most part about minorities. And leaders like this one who have, have been reprimanded.

The country has a quota in jobs, and parliament for minorities. They have been renovating mandirs, gurdwaras. Compare any mainstream Pakistani party in 2020 to BJP. In my opinion there is no comparison on whose more tolerant.

Mistakes were made in the past, however Pakistan has learned from them, and is heading in a more tolerant direction.

No one has denied prejudice, it exist in every society and it will continue to. Now you can whitewash developed world prejudice with "oh they have better roads and technology".

I do not understand how accepting someone apology after they have realized what they have done wrong is white washing prejudice? isn't that is what we are suppose to do?

Stupid statement and I'm glad he copped a whole bunch of criticism and had to apologize. World of difference between Pakistan and India.

Now can any of the India worshippers here comment on sitting CM of Uttar Pradesh and this statement of his:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">First day of Yogi's campaign in Delhi. kicks off the campaign with this line - <br><br>"Boli se nahi manega toh goli se maan hi jayega" <a href="https://t.co/UMbpvJiCou">pic.twitter.com/UMbpvJiCou</a></p>— Abhijeet Dipke (@abhijeet_dipke) <a href="https://twitter.com/abhijeet_dipke/status/1223627405664772096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 1, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Well he did get a lot of backlash from people which led to course correction. I would say people are getting aware of these kind of unconscious biases we develop without even knowing about them.
It is progress albeit quite slow.

Has ever a bjp minister apologised for his anti muslims rhetorics? Never mind being suspended?

He has been suspended from the party. Good Step PTI.

Just a temporary drama to let the situation fizzle out.

Fayyaz Chohan was also suspended for his remarks against Hindus before getting appointed again few months later.

Same will happen here. PTI government doesn’t give two hoots about minorities. They only care about their reputation.

Once people forget about it, they welcome the same people back in the fold.

Such messages against non-Muslims especially Hindus and Jews are very common in Pakistan.

A teacher of mine in Pakistan told me a story (fabricated) about Jew person who asked his son to jump off a roof and he will catch him but he didn't because Jews are not trustworthy.

if BJP does something, should we do the same thing? their actions are for them and our actions are for us.
We should try to be different not like them.
Plus how would Hindu feel who live in Pakistan?

Pakistsn are different to them thats my point The offender has been dealt with like youd expect from any non discriminatory organisation The existing govt isnt all talk but is firm is in its actions of treating minorities fairly

A hindu in pakistan should feel happy that this hasnt been brushed under the carpet like it wouldve been on the other side of the border

Good that he has been suspended even though in all likelihood this is merely for optics. Several BJP goons have talked **** about minorities in India since before I was born, hope I see them apologizing at least once in my lifetime. Yogi as CM, Pragya/Giriraj as MP, who am I kidding? Even Modi and Shah don't express regret over their divisive statements. For all its faults Congress at least has a sense of shame and decency.

Pakistan has changed in the last 10 years. This sort of language was common place before, but now its a no go area politically. Whether its PML N, PPP, or PTI, if they make a statement like this they will have to apologize. Whether they mean it or not, who knows. But they are not going to gain votes this way as the public does not support it anymore. Hence the apology.
