PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa MPA Ziaullah Bangash kicked off the provincial government’s annual school enrolment drive in his district by enrolling his daughter in a public school in Kohat.

Bangash, who was elected from PK-38 Kohat-II on a PTI ticket in the 2013 general elections, became the first K-P MPA to put his child in a government school on Saturday when he added daughter Abeeya Zia’s name on the admissions sheet at Government Girls Primary School Muhammadzai.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, Bangash said that if leaders want to build the public’s trust in government institutions, they should take the first step.

“If we urge people to put their children in government schools but enrol our own children in private schools instead, that would be unfair,” said the MPA.

He said the PTI-led provincial government has taken concrete steps to promote quality education across the province. “I have kept an eye on education in my district and monitor schools’ performance on a weekly and sometimes even a daily basis,” said Bangash.

If government schools begin providing quality education there would be no need for people to enrol their kids in private schools, he contended.

According to Bangash, the government has spent millions of rupees on education and health sector in K-P and people should take advantage of the facilities, saying he himself had a daughter’s surgery done from the state-run Liaqat Memorial Hospital in Kohat.

He urged his fellow lawmakers, politicians, government officers and teachers to use public institutions, including schools and hospitals, to help build the public’s trust in them.

This year, the K-P government aims to enrol some 900,000 children in schools as compared to 800,000 last year. The province-wide drive will continue till April 30.

This is the change my dear nooras where a common man and also MPAs are moving their kids to govt schools from private school.

Wonderful stuff from the PTI government in KPK. They've worked on improving the institutions and have done great things the past 4 years.

That is real change, change the common man can feel and see

good step

now the mpa would want to ensure that the public schools in his area are at a good level

Appreciable step, but he shouldn't compromise on his daughter's education for political reasons & point scoring.

Maybe he is really serious about the change ? Kamran Khan shared in his show that this MPA daughter was also born in a govt hospital.

Government schools and hospitals will automatically improve if MNA and MPA start sending their kids and families there

I heard his daughter was born in a government hospital.

many things to be considered here..govermnet hospitals here may not be having that cleanliness but they are the best in having experties and having evry type of facility available.....i mean possible facilities....so why not ,he would have born here in government hospitals..and schools are improving as goevrment hositals are....lotslo of improvement ..

So wait, is he looking down on all those people who went to private schools?

Anyways, isnt this a very ridiculous move to compromise on your kids education like that.

A guy has to be a fool to send his kid to a government school even after being an MNA or MPA.

Im guesing you live outside the country which is why you dont know the schooling situation in pakistan..

Schools donot improve by getting the presidents kid enrolled in it.

Schools improve, when you have a proper body head looking after the school, plus the goal is to educate most of the population by making education is easy and making other incentives.

In pakistan govt school education is suppose to improve by making the curriculum very hard, so that the ones who pass could be easoly adjourn the smartest and the ones who fail are left out

This thinkinf needs to change.

The idea should be to make our education levels easy so that more people could atleast get fsc fa clear (12 grade)

Appreciable step but hope he isn't compromising on his daughter's education. Govt. schools are in abysmal conditions in cities like Islamabad and Lahore, the less spoken of interior Sindh or Punjab, better. As for Balochistan, God knows if they even have schools!

KPK has been working on these core things which is very good so I hope the Govt. schools in KPK are at competition with private schools.

Problem isnt the schools.

Even private schools like roots are terrible.

Problem is the curriculum. Provate schools offer o, a levels which is good level of education.

The govt curriculum is not very good. The whole curriculum is based on doing cramming instead of actually learning.

While o and a levels is based upon understanding the concept.

Besides once you are done with o a levels you could apply outside. With fsc matric i dont think you could apply outside pakistan.

But i think the whole curriculum its to be fixed up.
Its ridiculous that a 10 year old kid has to bare the headache of exams at such an early age.

We should adopt a canadian like education which is based upon course work instead of examinations.

This way atleast many people are able to achieve 12 years of education easily.

In pakistan many people arnt able to do metric because of the education dificulty

Agreed. But even if you are to ignore the curriculum, the basic halaat of Govt. schools in interior Sindh or Punjab will leave you in awe. Sometimes, there isn't even a building and students are forced to study in open areas whether its cold, raining, hot or whatever. Curriculum is definitely a problem but these things need to be dealt with at the earliest.

When they start sending their kids to govt schools and families to govt hospital fot treat they will make sure situation of both govt schools and hospitals improve because than they will personally take interest in iy thats why i said this and yes i live in Pakistan i studied in a govt school and a govt college and than in a govt university because i come from a lower middle class family so i know the situation better than most.

Serious he might be, but the truth is that there is a massive gulf between the standard and quality of private and public education when it comes to schools. These changes don't happen overnight, which is why I feel that compromising the education of your daughter to make political statements is quite uncalled for.

btw people have to realise that this guy is an MPA in KPK

MPAs dont enjoy the same publicity, privileges and opportunities as MNAs anyways

Posters talking as if Government schools are the worst thing.
Government schools are good too.

I studied in a govt school till 12th grade where the fee was Rs. 250 and then went on to study in the best Engineering university of Pakistan. Many of my class fellows did. On other side my brother studied in a top private school (on full scholarship) and ended up in the same uni. Yes he did o/a levels and his quality of education was better but there wasnt much difference.

Please try to appreciate to good step taken by someone. I think her father cares more about her future than you guys worrying about her edcation. There is no reason standard of that particular school cannot be improved with more effort and if the trend continues, most of the public shcool will have decent education.

In US lots of politician proudly say they went to public schools.

Fully agree. People who are down playing public schools have not attended one I suppose. I know some people who even studied in urdu medium public schools and later did well in (foreign) universities and jobs. My two years in public school (SSC) was kind of important pillar later on for college and university life, and I have fond memories of very good teachers from those two years.

Yep some of the most brilliant guys I have studied with joined us after doing matric (SSC) from Urdu medium Govt schools. There concepts in Science subjects were excellent. English wasn't bad either.

I would think the guy knows whats best for his daughter than random posters on the internet.

I studied two years in govt school.
My best two years...

.....................

there is another politician who sent his children to public school and that was John Edward.
I admired him a lot for this...before....
