Looks like a big deal this! Don't really trust PCB's legal team to take this on properly.

According to reports I am reading online, PCB was making a big loss on this deal with PTV and Ramiz Raja was furious and took the position that it is not PCB's responsibility to uplift the standard of PTV broadcast capacity.

The entry of A sports has made a big difference and A sports is making a big offer to the PCB for broadcasting all home matches for domestic and international cricket and even the PSL.

PTV sued PCB for deciding to unilaterally end the contract and the LHC issued a stay order in favour of PTV.

Ramiz then met the information minister Fawad Chaudhry and the PTV MD and both agreed in principle to renegotiate the deal among themselves.

Ramiz then got back to PTV demanding that if PTV wanted the PCB to honour their agreement with them, then the agreement had to be changed from 58% PCB 42% PTV to 90% PCB 10% PTV. PTV naturally was furious while Ramiz was like take it or leave it. PTV threatened to sue both PCB and Ramiz and embroil PCB with stay orders and Ramiz responded, go right ahead, I will use my contacts with the PM and get the stay orders lifted.

This is bad news for the broadcast of the West Indies series, with just over a week to go. Ramiz has no idea of contract law, it seems.

The PCB purged out its most professional administrators because Ramiz Raja is apparently a visionary.

Let’s see how they wriggle themselves out of this one.

PTV was not responsible for Marketing and Sales, that was PCB's responsibility.

Ramiz and the PCB definitely had something lined up because otherwise there is no way they would unilaterally and without intimation cancel the deal. I have a feeling that PCB will appeal and though IK will put pressure on PTV Sports to withdraw being promised a parallel link by A-Sports/PCB. They are both under Govt & PTV cannot do anything if instructions come from the top to accept it.

PCB os the gov PTV is the gov it’s literally just dck waving by bureaucrats (ramiz is also one who of those). And on the issue of contract law etc in pakistan its one gov department wasting taxpayers money against another department wasting taxpayers money. Lawyers are going to get paid with taxpayers money and whoever wins will compensate the other party with taxpayers money the same lack of taxpayers money that has caused inflation to skyrocket. If you live in Pakistan you will know how pointless and stupid this is. If you live abroad ignorance is bliss

The Shoaib Akhtar v Doc episode and now PTV v PCB. There seems to be more off field drama than on field drama in Pakistan cricket these days.

I might be in the minority but this is very much needed for the better future of Pakistan cricket. For as long as I remember, cricket in Pakistan has operated like a government agency that is not interested at all in maximizing their revenue and very happy with mediocrity at every level.

The deal between PCB and PTV that was in place was very hallow to say the least. The amount of money that PCB was stated to make in the contract was contingent on PTV's ability to get the right sponsors to pay good money for the rights to air their ads and PTV never did their part and were never able to get the sponsors to fulfill that obligation. Result of that is PCB doesn't make enough money and so on and so forth.

Ramiz is one guy that has seen exactly how the business of Cricket has been working around the globe (especially in India) and he is trying to sell this team which has not been done in the longest time! First thing he told the team once he joined was that "I want people lining up outside NCA and where you guys are to take a picture with you and get your autograph". In order to sell the product which is Pakistan Cricket, you need stars and those stars need to perform.

Players are going to do their part on the field by winning and competing and playing a very attractive brand of cricket, and it is Ramiz's job is to sell that product to TV channels whether that is PSL or anything related to Pakistani cricket.

I do not know if you guys have noticed but their is a very concerted effort being made by the social media team that travels with Pakistan to document everyday happenings as much as possible and put that out their for public to consume. There is also a push to sell authorized Pakistani Cricket team merchandize as well. All these moves are made just for the end goal of selling Pakistan Cricket and maximize the revenue.

Ramiz is definitely being very aggressive, a touch over ambitious but he is adopting the gun slinging approach inside and outside the PCB whereas the likes of EM/WK were more patient and gradual in their approach. Ramiz with his gung ho approach is definitely going to make a lot of enemies and upset a lot of powerful people. He is taking a gamble that the PM is going to side with him on the PTV issue because there is no way the PCB can break out of the contract in the courts otherwise

According to reports for the first in decades Pakistan cricket will be reporting a loss in this year.

Wasim Khan and Mani truly screwed us.

Maybe you missed the Covid part of things?

Maybe you missed the Covid part of things?

I wonder if this is the result of abolishing departments, PCB being unable to find sponsors and having to spend for everything out of their own pocket without getting anything in return

Ramiz Raja is dragging Pakistan cricket infrastructure by the bootstraps into the 21st century.

I'll leave it to him. Disruptions will be an inevitable part of this journey.

So you feel he is right in this instant vis a vis PTV?

Even if one sympathizes with him and the PCB, a contract is a contract at the end of the day, PTV will demand damages of close to Rs 2 billion

What has PTV invested to demand this damages?

What was the clause for termination in the contract?

Has the PTV kept its side of the bargain? Are they not in breach of the contract?

So far the courts have sided with them via the stay orders. In their submissions to the court they are claiming that they have honoured all their agreements. The PCB is trying to avoid settling this in court and is looking at the PM office for help and intervention

The issue between PCB and PTV has been resolved where the share of PCB has been increased, statements will be issued later.

Ptv shouldve never gotten the contract. The quality of ptv has been the same for my whole life.. needs to be sold

This was done under pressure from the PM office and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the time

Then ramiz is well within his right... this gov might not be as corrupt but they are definitly just as incompetent...

PTV is a joke of a broadcaster. GEO super had always been mediocre aswell.

Salman Iqbal has created chaos by introducing A sports. Funny thing is A sports did only two things. Broadcasted HD cricket and had a fantastic show called The Pavillion which dragged in viewership to the channel.

PTV has always been a joke and the deal they did with PCB was terrible. Basically two govt organizations deciding to work together for the benefit of the other.

I just hope PCB is able to pull itself out of the PTV deal, they will have to pay an amount though.

Heard it is 71% PCB 29% PTV. The deal is still not profitable for the PCB and they want to go with A Sports

Seems its an attempt to keep the govt broadcaster profitable by giving it the most sought after rights in pakistan.

May I as an ex PTV viewer sue PTV for their rubbish coverage over the years and the fact that they bulldozed a million adverts on my face every time there was an exciting moment in the game?

Media reports indicate that a settlement has been reached between PTV and PCB with intervention of PM's office.

The revenue sharing model has also been revised, allowing PCB to take 72% of the share while PTV will take 28% out of the commercial deals, a significant change from the previous 57.5 - 42.5 arrangement.
