I have to say despite his really poor fielding in that final that cost his team the game he done an excellent job with the bat.

Great going Khuram Shehzad

Performances with duke/grey balls can ge ignored but not Kokabura balls.

Will be surprised if Northern repeat their heroics from last season. They are a victim of their own success as Haider Ali and Haris Rauf are now part of the Pakistan setup.

They are getting hammered by SP.

Talat having a massive game I thought he was the quiet star of the t 20 Cup. If Talat can up his bowling a bit a 6-7-8 of Rizwan,Talat and Shadab will be as good a lower order once can hope for.

Yeah but that guy is actually older than Yasir Shah.

He is officially 27 and I just double checked his recent photo, and yes he doesn't look like a 27.

He looks close to 30/31 but still I don't think he is older than Yasir who is officially 34.

Do you have any inside information?.

You are being generous with 30/31, more like 37 based on the pics tbh.

Peoples favourite zeeshan malik.not doing well it seems...i want tallat to try and reach stokes level he has good action in bowling not sure why doesnt generate so much speed

The wicket in Karachi lacked bounce. It was a Karachi wicket of old, a little with a new ball but not much else. The cricket was of a poor standard.

This scorecard is aesthetic goals.

I am watching Pakistan domestic cricket and actually enjoying it. This is some change.

He does ball 130 kph + which is enough for a batting all rounder. He can be a decent 5th bowling option in tests and 6th bowling in ODIs. At the end it has to be his batting which will have to get him to the Pakistan team and if he does then his bowling would be a good bonus to have across the formats.

Karachi, 26 October 2020:

A maiden double-century by Hussain Talat and 15th first-class century by Test opener Shan Masood put Southern Punjab in a commanding position against a hapless Northern on the second day of the four-day first round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the National Bank of Pakistan Complex on Monday.

Hussain, playing his 41st first-class match, clubbed 33 fours and six sixes in a 310-ball 253, while Shan belted 17 fours in a 185-ball 134 as Southern Punjab declared their first innings at 507 for nine in reply to Northern’s 165 after starting the second day’s proceedings at the overnight score of 174 for one.

When stumps were called for the day, Northern, 342 runs in arrears, were jolted by Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas (two for 13) as they finished at 31 for three and facing the prospects of an innings defeat as they still require 311 runs to make Southern Punjab bat again.

Shan and Hussain, who resumed on 80 and 53 runs, respectively put on 185 runs for the second wicket, while Hussain added another 63 runs for the seventh wicket with Bilawal Bhatti (31).

Hussain occupied the crease for over five hours and reached his century from 149 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. His double-century came off 237 balls with 28 fours and four sixes.

For Northern, their captain Nauman Ali returned figures of four for 153, while Athar Mehmood bagged three for 86.

An interesting match was developing at the National Stadium where Fawad Alam was leading Sindh’s fightback against defending champions Central Punjab in the broadcast match being produced by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

After Central Punjab added two more runs to their overnight score of 205 for nine to be bowled out for 207 in 86.4 overs, they hit back to reduced Sindh to 113 for six before Fawad Alam fought gallantly to see his side to 196 for six from 80 overs at stumps, still 11 runs behind.

Fawad, who has added 83 runs for the unfinished seventh wicket with Tabish Khan (17 not out), has been batting for over four hours for his 90 not out in which he has faced 265 balls off which seven have been converted into fours.

The Sindh batsmen back in the hut included Khurram Manzoor (35), Omair Bin Yousuf (12), Saud Shakeel (0), Asad Shafiq (8), Sarfaraz Ahmed (10) and Hasan Mohsin (8) as Ahmed Bashir and Waqas Maqsood returned two for 46 and two for 49, respectively.

At the UBL Sports Complex, fast bowler Khurram Shahzad and Test spinner Yasir Shah combined to bundle out Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a modest 167 in 46.5 overs to help Balochistan secure a 195-run first innings lead.

When play ended Balochistan, who scored 362 in the first innings, had reached 34 for one to lead Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 229 runs with nine second innings wickets intact.

Khurram recorded figures of 10-2-27-5, his fourth five-fer in 21th match, while Yasir Shah had figures of 17.5-2-94-4 that took his career first-class wickets to 584.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Usman (57 not out), Kamran Ghulam (42) and Sajid Khan (27) were the notable run-scorers.

Earlier, Balochistan resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 310 for seven and were dismissed for 362 in 110.2 overs. Bismillah Khan, who began at 102, was out after scoring 118, an innings that came off 242 balls and included 13 fours.

Together with Khurram Shahzad (37), Bismillah added 52 runs for the eighth wickets.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sajid Khan snapped up three for 96, while Junaid Khan, Ahmed Jamal and Imran Khan Snr took two wickets apiece.

His batting is more suited to longer formats and it is in longer formats too that his bowling will be of some value...ATM his bowling is harmless in t20s....albeit he has improved his hitting

Didn't think Talat had this kind of innings in him - he seemed more like a quick 30/40 runs kind of guy when he played for T20i

Test is still a stretch, but hopefully he's close to a LOI comeback

Being shown live?

Everybody talks about talent he should get a chance he should etc but the fact remains kpk won the 2020 cup with oldies and even in firstclass they will turn out to come at top.. so we shouldnt complain when same old players get picked. I just think hussain tallat might be ready though

Shaheen won them the tournament consitantly took wickets at good economy

Peoples favourite zeeshan malik.not doing well it seems...i want tallat to try and reach stokes level he has good action in bowling not sure why doesnt generate so much speed

Even if talat reaches his maximum talent it will stil be less than stokes

Haha Stokes is a once in a generation talent but Talat can give value even if he is half of stokes.

Stokes level haha...
Have u ever seen him bat against Pace Bowlers (>135 kph)?
International pace bowlers will take him to cleaners. He is here cashing on these medium pacers.

I think that we need to be very precise about exactly what type of Test all-rounder he could be.

There are:

1. BOWLING ALL-ROUNDERS like Mitchell Johnson or, at the lower end of the scale, Faheem Ashraf.

These guys can take 3-4 wickets per Test at an average of under 32, as well as scoring 40 runs per Test at an average of 22 or 23.

They can bowl a spell of 7 overs every session, no exceptions, and concede no more than 25 runs. Their end-of-day figures are likely to be 21-6-75-3.

2. BALANCED ALL-ROUNDERS like Mitchell Marsh.

These guys can average around 30 with the bat and 34 with the ball. They will also bowl 7 tight overs every session, and their end-of-day figures are more likely to be 21-7-70-2.

3. BATTING ALL-ROUNDERS like Hilton Cartwright or Jimmy Neesham or Corey Anderson.

These guys have to be able to bat in the Top 4 or 5 of the batting order because they are only going to take 1-2 wickets per Test, at an average of 40 or worse. They don't count in a 4 man or even a 5 man bowling attack - they are a part-time sixth bowler.

Typically in an innings they will bowl 3 four over spells and end up with figures of 12-2-45-1.

The problem with Hussain Talat is that he falls into that last category. He only has 36 wickets in 40 First Class matches - his only way into the Test team is in place of a batsman, not a bowler.

Just because Talat can roll his arm over doesn't mean he is an all rounder. His bowling numbers aren't that great because his domestic sides don't seem him an all rounder imo. In any case it's not that big of a deal. He is more than good enough to play as a specialist batsmen . Especially when players like Iftikhar and Asif Ali have been given game time.

Really hope to see Talat making the ODIs squad soon. More big scores needed to make it at test level.

If Talat can hit another 2 centuries, then he is worth picking for the Test team.

Talat is a great option for t20 but again where to fit him is the question. However, if we set the M. Arthur expectations/standards then if you can't field then you don't deserve to be in the playing XI.

He missed a complete dolly in the final but regardless of this he's shown some improvement. Lots of players that have shown class in the t20 game but to pick them you have to think about it.

Can we have a thread which operates as a continuously updated QEA performance thread?

Pick around 40 domestic players and make a table showing their innings scores and bowling figures across the season.

I would say:

BATTING
Shan Masood
Abid Ali
Sami Aslam
Imran Butt
Zeeshan Malik
Azhar Ali
Haris Sohail
Asad Shafiq
Abdullah Shafique
Haider Ali
Babar Azam
Fawad Alam
Hussain Talat
Rohail Nazir
Sarfraz Ahmed
Mohammad Rizwan
Shadab Khan
Yasir Shah
Zafar Gohar
Kashif Bhatti
Sajid Khan
Hasan Ali
Ehsan Adil

BOWLING
Mohammad Abbas
Naseem Shah
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Hasan Ali
Ehsan Adil
Imran Khan sr
Sohail Khan
Mohammad Hasnain
Haris Rauf
Sameen Gul
Hussain Talat
Yasir Shah
Shadab Khan
Zafar Gohar
Kashif Bhatti
Sajid Khan

Last year on PakPassion we didn't have any easy way to recognize which performances took place when the international players were mainly away. If we had, we would have seen that, for example, Fawad Alam was the 24th highest scorer until the international players left for Australia, then scored a mountain of runs against reserve bowlers.

I'd add Saud Shakeel and Faheem Ashraf to my performance watchlist above...

Hoping for a good season for kamran ghulam looked quality at u 19 level and like many just fell away in past 2-3 seasons

Wrist spinner Zahid Mahmood capped a perfect two-and-a-half days for Southern Punjab as they carved out a convincing innings and 96 runs victory over Northern in the first round match of the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Dadu-born spinner followed up his first innings figures of 9.4-2-41-4 with a career-best 14.1-3-57-6 to record match figures of 23.5-5-98-10, his maiden 10-wicket haul in 40 first-class matches since making his debut in 2009.

On way to his six-fer, Zahid crossed the 100-wicket mark and now has 102 wickets at an average of 39.12 in the four-day format.

His performance with the red Kookaburra ball has come after he finished as the ninth most successful bowler in the National T20 Cup with 12 wickets.

Northern, trailing by 342 runs on the first innings and resuming the third day at 31 for three, were sent packing for 246 with Hammad Azam finishing as the top-scorer with a 117-ball 79 that included eight fours and two sixes.

He became one of Zahid Mahmood’s victims, who also picked up the scalps of Faizan Riaz (36), Asif Ali (39), Nauman Ali (32), Salman Irshad (0) and Waqas Ahmed (0).

From this fixture, Southern Punjab collected 28 points, including 16 for an outright win, one for an innings victory, five for batting and six for bowling. In contrast, Northern had to settle with two bowling points.

In the second round fixture, which will start on Saturday, 31 October, Southern Punjab will take on Balochistan in a televised match at the National Stadium, while Northern will stay at the NBP Complex where they will take on Central Punjab.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Balochistan were sensing a victory against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who finished the penultimate day’s play at 133 for four after being set a target of 413.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in their run-chase, had slipped to 29 for three but Adil Amin (56 not out) and Kamran Ghulam (51) added 104 runs for the fourth wicket to keep their side’s slim hopes alive.

Earlier, Balochistan resumed their second innings at the overnight score of 34 for one and declared at the score of 217 for eight. Notable run-getters for Balochistan were Sami Aslam (48), Taimoor Ali (41 not out), Yasir Shah (41), Imran Farhat (29) and Abdul Rehman Muzammil (22).

Sajid Khan was the pick of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowlers, returning innings figures of 24.5-0-78-5. This was 27-year-old’s fourth career five-fer in 24th match.

Fawad Alam stroked his 28th Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, third in succession and 35th overall, as Sindh and Central Punjab fixture was delicately poised in the National Stadium broadcast match, produced by the PCB.

Fawad, resuming at his overnight score of 90 in Sindh’s 196 for six, was dismissed after scoring 115 that helped the home side to 239 to grab a slim but crucial 32-run lead. When stumps were drawn for the third day, Central Punjab were 120 for four to lead the home side 88 runs with six wickets standing.

Usman Salahuddin (35) and Mohammad Saad (26) will resume Central Punjab’s second innings on Wednesday. The two batsmen have already added 64 runs for the unfinished fifth wicket after Mohammad Umar and Mohammad Asghar had grabbed two wickets apiece to reduce the visitors to 56 for four.

Fawad, who recorded his 10th century at the National Stadium, faced 250 balls during a 388-minute vigil at the crease. He hit nine fours. Together with Tabish Khan (24), Fawad put on 117 runs for the seventh wicket that saved Sindh’s blushes after they had slipped to 113 for six.

The good news for Central Punjab and Pakistan was the performance of star fast bowler Hasan Ali. Returning after a lay-off due to back injury, Hasan sent down 21.3 overs and was rewarded with three wickets for 40 runs.

However, Waqas Maqsood was the most impressive Central Punjab bowler when he grabbed four wickets for 56 runs. Ahmed Bashir took two for 56, while Ehsan Adil picked up one wicket.

Scores in brief (day three of four):

At the NBP Complex, Southern Punjab beat Northern by an innings and 96 runs

First innings points: Balochistan 9, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2

If Sindh-Central Punjab was a 5 day match it would be beautifully poised.

As it happens a draw is most likely barring a CP collapse tomorrow morning. Saad and Salahuddin need to bat them to safety.

I know for once there is some bounce in Karachi national pitch but lt looks to be heading to a draw which is fine but as all 11 televised matches are here i hope they dont produce dead and non result orientated wickets

Sindh pushing for victory chasing 212. Omair Yousuf departs though six shy of his fifty.

94 runs in 20 overs needed by Sindh with 8 wickets in hand. Sindh should be taking this.

If central Punjab loses this match, both Azhar Ali and their dumb coach Shahid Anwar should lose thier job.

Three QAE matches, three results. Average 1st innings score of 274.

Well done PCB !
