Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020/21 | Round 6 | 2-5 December, 2020 | Matches Thread

Literally just this one. I think Titan24 said he was injured at the start of the season. Regardless even last year he played 3 of the 10 games even though he was one of the top pacers in the three games that he played.

lets hope he gets the rest of the games , this system will eventually filter out the non performers.

Muhammad Umar was excellent yesterday , his pace can improve but his ability to land on seam and extract movement couple with great line and length can get him quickly in the national team.

Suddenly some decent pace prospects

Dhani
Munir
Umar
Sameen
Khurram
Irfanullah

Love the look of munir. Has a brilliant fast bowlers action and looks like with some coaching and development he could potentially bowl fast. Quite raw and expensive but definitely something to work with there. Hope he can push on.

Yeah love the energy he puts on every ball and I am not talking about just speed it's the whole package the run to the wicket jump on the crease and the final delivery, these are the bowlers that usually make it in test cricket bowlers who are putting effort spell after spell.

Shahnawaz Dhani bowling really well for Sindh today .. Has taken 3/35 in 14 overs so far.. definitely one for a future ..

what the hell sharjeel , why didnt you run for your life?

earlier i saw ali shan getting out like this , didnt dive.

Central Punjab neared their first victory in the ongoing first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy as they were six wickets away from defeating Sindh when the third day of the sixth round fixture came to an end at the National Stadium on Friday.

The title defenders, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the six-team points table, had set a daunting 432-run target for Sindh, who were 152 for four when stumps were drawn.

As Sindh’s batsmen continued to struggle against Central Punjab bowlers after being bowled out for a paltry 92 in the first innings, it was Sharjeel Khan’s fighting 89 that held his side’s second innings together.

Central Punjab captain Hasan Ali made early inroads when he removed Omair Bin Yousuf, who failed to open his account, with just eight runs on scoreboard.

Waqas Maqsood, who took six wickets for 25 runs in the first innings, dismissed Saud Shakeel (10) and Qasim Akram accounted for Sindh captain Asad Shafiq (0) as Sindh wobbled at 65 for three.

A 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Saad Ali and Sharjeel steadied the ship before a direct-hit from the boundary rope by Tayyab Tahir, fielding as a substitute, ran out Sharjeel, who struck 11 fours and three sixes in his 138-ball stay at the crease.

Sindh require another 280 runs to win the match. On Saturday, Saad Ali, unbeaten on 24, and wicketkeeper-batsman Shehzar Mohammad, who is not out on 26, will resume the run chase.

Earlier, a blistering 83 not out from only 60 balls by Ahmed Safi Abdullah helped Central Punjab post 247 all out in their second innings after resuming the day at 96 for five.

The 22-year-old smoked six sixes and as many fours as he stitched defiant alliances of 62 and 68 runs with Bilawal Iqbal (14) and Waqas Maqsood (32), who were dismissed by Abrar Ahmed.

The leg-spinner was the pick of the bowlers for Sindh with four for 40.

At the UBL Sports Complex, a six wicket haul by Northern captain Nauman Ali ensured his team were set a 200-run target to leapfrog their opponents Southern Punjab, the table-toppers. The two sides are tied on points but Southern Punjab lead the points table because of a better net run-rate.

Northern’s run chase will begin on the fourth and final morning of the match.

Valiant half-centuries by Salman Ali Agha and Imran Rafiq helped Southern Punjab post 295 in 93.2 overs.

The pair had come together with the scorecard reading 82 for four and stitched a crucial 137-run partnership that lifted Southern Punjab to 219 for four.

Salman posted the highest score of the innings as he scored 89 off 121 balls in an innings studded with nine fours and a six, while Imran dispatched 11 off the 152 balls he faced towards the boundary on way to his 61.

Nauman recorded his career’s 16th five-wicket haul as he dismissed Saif Badar (15), Imran, Aamer Yamin (25), Zahid Mehmood (0), Umar Khan (23) and Bilawal Bhatti (0).

The other four wickets were shared equally between Munir Riaz, Hammad Azam, Nasir Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz.

Southern Punjab had begun the day at 19 for no loss.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were on way to what promises to be their third win of the season as their opponents Balochistan were tottering at 164 for six in their chase of a 400-run total at the State Bank Stadium.

Ali Waqas and Awais Zia were the only notable run-getters in the run chase with the scores of 44 and 43, respectively, before they were removed by off-spinner Sajid Khan, who continues to enjoy an impressive run of form.

Mohammad Wasim Jnr was the other bowler to pick two wickets, while his fellow pacers Sameen Gul and Irfanullah Shah took a wicket each.

On the last day of the match, Ayaz Tasawar (17 not out) and Umaid Asif (eight not out) will resume the run-chase. Balochistan need 236 more to win.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 199 after resuming the day on 98 for three as Taj Wali recorded his 16th five-wicket haul.

Israrullah, who scored 86, was the only notable run-getter in the innings. The opener had resumed the day at 50 not out. Over the course of his 144-ball knock, he struck eight fours and two sixes.

With the score of 32, Adil Amin was the next best batsman in the innings.

Win for Central Punjab, 4 wickets for Hassan Ali in the second innings (5 in total) and 9 wickets for Waqas Maqsood over the course of the match (6 and then 3).

Positive cricket, great to watch. Another win or two for Central Punjab from the remaining 4 games could see them stage a dramatic comeback in the tournament.

Pretty poor outings for Saud and Omair on a pitch that did something for pacers quite dissapointing actually.

Hopefully Sameen Gul can get to play next 4 games as well to put his name in selection hat come the South African series.

Pretty poor outings for Saud and Omair on a pitch that did something for pacers quite dissapointing actually.

Saud was wrongly given out in the 2nd innings , the ball was missing the wickets at least by 6 inches.

Northern displaced Southern Punjab to claim the top spot on the points table with a six-wicket win on the final day of the sixth round of the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the UBL Sports Complex on Saturday.

Set 200 to win, Northern helped by half-centuries from Nasir Nawaz, Umar Amin and Hammad Azam reached the target in 41.5 overs.

The foundations for the victory were laid with a 97-run partnership between opener Nasir and Umar. The two had come together with the scorecard reading three for one.

Nasir top-scored with 68 off 80 balls (nine fours and two sixes) he was supported by Umar at the other end, who returned unbeaten on 65.

Following Nasir’s dismissal by Umar Khan, who took two wickets, Umar stitched another solid alliance with Hammad that took Northern over the line.

Umar and Hammad added 81 runs for their undefeated fifth-wicket stand, over the course of which Hammad brought up his sixth half-century of the season.

Hammad scored a blistering 53 as he crunched 10 boundaries over the course of his unbeaten 48-ball stay.

Following the defeat, Southern Punjab, who had been at the top of the points table since the start of the season, slipped to the third spot.

In the seventh round of the tournament, which commences on 8 December, Southern Punjab will face Balochistan in a broadcast fixture at the National Stadium, while Northern will face Central Punjab at the UBL Sports Complex.

At the National Stadium, Central Punjab, the title defenders, recorded their first win of the season as they inflicted a heavy 227-run defeat on Sindh in a contest which was broadcast on PTV Sports in Pakistan and beamed across the globe through PCB’s YouTube Channel.

Sindh were bowled out for 204 in an extended morning session with Shehzar Mohammad being the only batsman to put a notable resistance. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 50 off 97 balls, hitting seven boundaries, to register his first-class career’s eight half-century.

Sindh began the morning on 152-4 with Shehzar and Mohammad Saad at the crease on 26 and 24, respectively. Saad could add only seven more runs to his overnight score before pacer Waqas Masqood, who followed up his brilliant 6-25 in the first innings with 3-49, dismissed him.

The pick of the bowlers for Central Punjab in the second innings was their captain Hasan Ali, who added three more wickets on Saturday morning.

The right-arm pacer took four wickets for 66 runs and his match returns were 5-114 from 32.5 overs.

Central Punjab bagged 24 crucial points – 16 for outright win, two for batting and six for bowling – from the match, while Sindh, captained by Asad Shafiq, pocketed only three bowling bonus points.

Central Punjab remain at the bottom of the points table with 54 points. However, their difference from the next best side, Sindh, is squeezed to nine points.

Sindh will now move to State Bank Stadium to play Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bagged 25 points and jumped to the second spot on the points table as they defeated Balochistan by 175 runs at the State Bank Stadium.

The Khalid Usman-captained side completed the victory in the morning session as Balochistan were bowled out for 224 after resuming the day on 164 for six.

Balochistan’s remaining four wickets lasted only 15.1 overs as Sameen Gul took two more wickets and Mohammad Wasim Jnr added another scalp to his tally. Both pacers finished the innings with three wickets each.

With 34 off 30 balls, which included four fours and two sixes, Jalat Khan was the only player from the batting side to resist Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowlers before he was run out.

Balochistan, placed fourth before the start of this round, could gain only three points (all bonus points for bowling) from the match.

Hammad Azam having an amazing run with the bat, MashaAllah. Looks like he has finally started to maximize his potential. Deserves to be given a long run now in Tests & (considering our poor LOI line up) maybe in ODIs too... And NOT as a slogger, because he is not one. He is a proper batsman who can hit big ONLY after getting set at the crease. Not from the word go.

Salman Ali Agha fined 40 per cent match-fee for showing dissent

Karachi, 5 December 2020:

Southern Punjab’s Salman Ali Agha has been fined 40 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel during his side’s six wickets defeat against Northern in the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the UBL Sports Complex.

Salman was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct, which reads as: “Showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a Match”.

The incident happened in the second session’s play of the penultimate day on Friday, when Salman, after being declared caught behind off Mohammad Nawaz, showed dissent by putting his hands on his helmet to express his disbelief and disappointment.

After the day’s play, Salman pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Ali Naqvi. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Aftab Gillani and Faisal Afridi

Lol, just how bad was the decision.

PCB released a short interview with Razzaq on YouTube and Twitter, he talks about the overall game and his coaching style. Towards the end of the interview, he speaks about how he really likes Waseem and is backing him as a bowling all-rounder
I thought Sameen was a good prospect for tests.PCB should invest in him.
