Looking at the scores and the sheer number of mediocre players in every team, it looks like we're back to having a domestic game where zero credibility can be given to any performance. If a player knows what a bat looks like they'll score a century.

Looking at the sheer mediocrity of players some scoring double 100s but averaged less than 40 in the Bham league.

i dont mind the hanif mohammad trophy, its non first class and gives lots of players exposure. but the QeA seems like a lot of players who were struggling in the old regional QeA are having a jolly against a plethora of substandard players in every team, which are basically a combination of the first and second xi's of the regions.

The template should be simple- good players play against other good players and on good wickets with some decent bounce and spin later in the match. This format is just rubbish with lots of poor players playing other average players on dead wickets.

I had a cursory look at the squads on cricinfo, hoping to find fat, old cricketers hogging spots in teams, but was surprised to see a fair number of youngsters. I think it's time we realized we're just not good enough. Instead of blaming systematic corruption and nepotism every time. I believe it's time to own up lack of skills and competence is our main problem.

I saw Mohammed Rameez bowl his leg spin on an unresponsive pitch and I was quite impressed with his control and spin. It's early days but he is lad that needs to be nurtured.

Can someone take an executive decision and relay the Lahore wicket. Its a total disgrace, producing terrible cricket at a major centre. Its doing untold damge PK cricket and with an investment it could become a good FC wicket.

Despite being a die hard cricket fan and following the QEA trophy closely every year. I got the shock of my life to find out this season's QEA is almost ending.

I have heard close to nothing about any of the matches or scores. Their is a complete lack of coverage or interest in the trophy this year.

Anyone else feel the same?

it is because of the pathetic pitches and awful selections. No new talent on display and the gadaffi pitches has only produced two innings every match so far which is a disgrace

yep, I agree. It is very surprising that the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023 hasn’t received the attention it deserves. Despite stellar performances like Ahmed Shehzad’s double-century and Sarfaraz Ahmed’s record-breaking innings etc., the coverage seems to be lacking.

These Lahore pitches are absolutely disgraceful. It's like what, 8 centuries in the match so far from 14 batsmen who have batted? That's absolutely absurd.

Only thing pitches like these do is blur between who is good & bad. At the end, you will see players stats and see high averages because they took advantage of this flat pancake and boosted their averages while bowlers averages will take a massive blow on these pitches.

Clear lack of talent in FC too and so many of the opportunities have gone to very old over the hill players and the FC season is so short. It blows my mind that a FC season can last only 1.5 months or so. This is why we have been struggling in Tests as most of these domestic players are playing FC matches once a year for a whopping 1.5 months? How can you expect to improve your skills at all in such short time when you don't play it all year.

The entire scheduling is a problem in fact. How can a domestic season last just 3 months in total. This is beyond stupid and why's there such a rush to cram everything into 3 months. International cricket can be played in Pakistan in Jan-Feb-March-April but domestic cricket can't? It makes no sense.

yep, I agree.
Because the quality is poor. The standard is dire

Saad Nasim cracking a double hundred told me all I needed to know about the quality of this FC season.

The standard has plummeted although the clash with the World Cup and Asian Games has meant many of our top domestic cricketers are unavailable.

Totally but they intentionally chose to schedule QeA during this time. Last season, T20 was played first, then List A and then FC to cap off the season. It's the other way around for whatever reason and they could have avoided this entirely if they simply chose to schedule it as it was last year and the FC tournament would have been a lot better. Main players would have gone away for the Australia tour but at least you are not wasting the likes of Mohammad Haris/Zaman Khan sitting around in reserves and missing out crucial development time in FC.

It's such few FC matches too - look at county cricket, it's 14 matches being played by teams and its played throughout their entire summer. Pakistan just cram as many matches as possible in a span of 1.5-2 months and call it a day. No one cares about the FC tournament and that's why top people in PCB never have to answer for this but this is ridiculous.

Strange that we complain about QeA not being followed but unable to follow it ourselves!?
Despite being a die hard cricket fan and following the QEA trophy closely every year. I got the shock of my life to find out this season's QEA is almost ending.

I have heard close to nothing about any of the matches or scores. Their is a complete lack of coverage or interest in the trophy this year.

Anyone else feel the same?

joke of a competition destroying the careers of potential test players.

Everything about Sarfraz is ignored. Literally everything.

7 games in your FC season. What an absolute joke.

This is why we are a joke in Tests and don't have many batsmen with great techniques or bowlers who can bowl more than 4 overs.

This is what PCB cricket technical committee came up with. A 7 game FC season. At least previous iterations had 10 games and competitive squads and better coverage.

Faisalabad and Karachi Whites eye coveted Quaid-e-Azam Trophy title

Faheem Ashraf-led Faisalabad and Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Karachi Whites are set to face off in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 final, to be played from 22 to 26 October at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Both sides will be eying to secure the first-class title as it promises distinction considering it is the first premier tournament completed since the restoration of the domestic structure under the PCB Constitution of 2014.

The previous edition of the trophy, played before the reinstitution of 2014 PCB Constitution, was won by Northern. Umar Amin-led Northern had defeated Khurram Manzoor-led Sindh in the final at Gaddafi Stadium by an innings and 55 runs. Northern’s Mohammad Huraira and Mubasir Khan had been the headline performers of the season. Sindh’s prodigal spinner Abrar Ahmed, after picking up 43 wickets in 12 innings, had earned a national call-up following the breakthrough season he had last year.

Under the newly reinstated structure, eight regional teams – Lahore Whites, Lahore Blues, Rawalpindi, FATA, Peshawar, Multan, Karachi Whites and Faisalabad – partook in the round-robin stage of the tournament where each played seven games from 10 September to 19 October across three cities in the country, namely, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Abbottabad. Faisalabad, with 108 points and three wins, topped the table. Karachi Whites, with 100 points and two wins, were squarely behind Faisalabad, as the two teams qualified for the final. Lahore Blues, with 99 points and two wins, narrowly missed out on securing a berth in the final.

The clash between Faisalabad and Karachi Whites promises to be an exciting one as both sides have displayed solid performances throughout the season. Both the sides are captained by experienced individuals; Faheem has represented Pakistan in 16 Tests and has 73 first-class appearances under his cap while Sarfaraz, the former Pakistan Test captain, has played 53 Tests and 173 first-class games.

Karachi Whites’ Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq have both had a season to remember. The former has accumulated 579 runs in six matches and hit three half-centuries and two centuries, including a magnificent double century which came against Lahore Whites. Asad, on the other hand, has scored 532 runs in seven matches; he has two half-centuries and two centuries across the season. Left-arm spinner Noman Ali has gotten 21 wickets at an average of 22.19 in six matches, which included a six-wicket haul. Left-arm pacer Mir Hamza has been the most successful bowler for Karachi Whites. He has accounted for 26 wickets at an average of 20.88, returning with six wickets at the expense of 37 runs as his season-best figures. He has been the second-highest wicket-taker of the season, only behind Faisalabad’s right-arm pacer Khurram Shahzad.

Khurram has picked up 31 wickets in seven matches, at an average of 18.13. His best performance in the season thus far boasted six wickets for just 23 runs. Right-arm pacer Mohammad Ali, with 24 wickets, was the second-most successful bowler for Faisalabad. He has registered two five-wicket-hauls in the tournament thus far. Mohammad Huraira has been the most prominent batter for Faisalabad; he has 474 runs from seven matches so far, including two half-centuries. Ali Waqas, in just four matches, has 316 runs, including two centuries. Skipper Faheem Ashraf, who missed out on the initial two games due to his inclusion in the Pakistan squad for the ACC Asia Cup 2023, has had an impressive season as well; he has accumulated 265 runs and picked 14 wickets. He has two half-centuries and a five-wicket haul from the five games he has played in the tournament thus far.

Overall, Peshawar’s captain Sahibzada Farhan has topped the runs chart of the tournament so far. He scored a mammoth 847 runs during the season, hitting two half-centuries and three centuries, which included a double century as well. Multan’s Zain Abbas has been impressive as well, mounting 665 runs, including three half-centuries and two centuries. His knock of 292 runs against FATA was the best individual performance with the bat during the tournament. Rawalpindi’s right-arm-pacer Kashif Ali equalled Mir Hamza’s tally of 26 wickets. He registered three five-wicket-hauls in the season. Lahore Blues’ right-arm-pacer Ali Shafique notably grabbed 24 wickets in six matches, including two five-wicket-hauls.

Both Faheem and Sarfaraz have highlighted the excitement in their respective camps for being within touching distance of the country’s premier first-class trophy. Faheem Ashraf told PCB, “The entire team is focused on winning the final. Being on top of the table has given us confidence and momentum which we will use to our advantage.

“We have had some extraordinary performances, individually and as a team. I have faith in the team, going into the final, as I know all the players will give their best.”

Sarfaraz Ahmed said, “We have played some good cricket throughout the tournament and have taken it one game at a time. We are focused on securing the title so we will continue to play according to what has worked for us in the tournament so far.

“Having a mix of experienced players like Asad Shafiq, Shan Masood and Khurram Manzoor and youngsters like Omair Bin Yousuf, Saim Ayub and Ghulam Mudassar among others really helps the combination of the team. It has favoured our positive approach so far.”

Hanif Mohammad Trophy:

The grade-II four-day tournament, which was rebranded as the Hanif Mohammad Trophy under the new domestic structure, will also see its last round of games play out from 22 to 25 October. At the end of the 10-team tournament, the top team will qualify for the next season of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy while FATA – as they have finished last in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy – will be relegated to the grade-II tournament.

The tournament is currently in its Super-Four stage, after Islamabad, Abbottabad, Quetta and Hyderabad qualified ahead from the round stage. Thus far, Islamabad top the table with 48 points. Quetta stand second with 29 points. Hyderabad and Abbottabad occupy the third and fourth spots with 24 and eight points respectively. Bahawalpur’s Mohammad Ammar, after accumulating 510 runs in four matches, has been the tournament’s most prolific batter. Quetta’s Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, with 470 runs in six matches, has also been impressive. Daniyal Hussain Rajput, representing Hyderabad, follows close behind with 468 runs in six matches. Quetta’s Jalat Khan and Hyderabad’s Jawad Ai have been the most successful bowlers so far, picking up 37 wickets apiece in six matches. Shayan Sheikh, representing Islamabad, is close behind with 36 wickets in six matches.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 Final at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Faisalabad have won the toss and are fielding first against Karachi Whites

Khurram Shehzad bowling well in his opening spell against Karachi. Plenty of swing.

Meanwhile, Faheem's selfish captaincy is on display. I have no idea if he's been doing this in the other matches too because the coverage is quite poor but its ridiculous he's bowling with the new ball while much better wicket takers in Arshad Iqbal & Mohammad Ali are watching him bowl his completely gun barrel straight mediocre bowling. It's unreal how selfish some of these players are and if its not selfish, then its brainless because Faheem should know his own limitations.

Stuff like this just deceives the overall stats because if he's done this all season, maybe his stats will look a little nicer because he got a few wickets with the new ball and will get selected on the team but its so deceiving because never will he be getting the new ball with the Pakistan team. It's little things like these that can make a difference and its up to the coaches too to make sure players will get used in roles they are best suited for.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final

At Lunch Karachi Whites are 106/1

Shan Masood 51* (56)
Saim Ayub 44* (71)
Khurram Shehzad 1/17 (6)

Shan is going at a better SR in tests than our openers are in the limated edition format

Siam Ayub continues his great form in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy finals by scoring a century from only 124 deliveries as Karachi Whites dominate

What nervous 90's? As Shan Masood smashes a maximum to bring up his 24th First Class ton from only 105 deliveries. It looks like he has brought Bazball from the UK after his stint in the County circuit.

Gaddafi should be discarded as a FC venue. Disgraceful pitch

Should be used for list A and T20s

Karachi dominating in the finals

The 2 guys in the middle should have been opening for us in the world cup but alas

So we are having a final after a few games. I thought the last years tournament was too short, well this is even worse. Which clowns came up with this rubbish. Where are those guys that gave us pages of why this system would be better. Why have you disappeared?

whilst i agree the tournament is short, given the level of this so called FC competition i dont mind, the patrons trophy for all its failings is likely to be a higher standard, i hope.

the level here is pretty rubbish tho, its somewhere between the old first and reserve levels.

PCB needs to schedule domestic cricket when the Pakistani team has no international commitments. Best to schedule the tournament from August to December. We need the maximum national team players to participate in it.

Quaid e Azam Tropy
22nd October 2023

Saim Ayub and Shan Masood’s splendid batting vaulted Karachi Whites to 398 for the loss of just two wickets on the opening day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 final against Faisalabad at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Saim remained unbeaten on 200 at stumps with Omair Bin Yousuf the other batter not out at two. Shan contributed with a remarkable 180 before getting out while opening batter Khurram Manzoor made three runs.

In the five-day final of the country’s premier first-class tournament, Faisalabad captain Faheem Ashraf won the toss and decided to field first. Khurram Manzoor’s dismissal off the bowling of Khurram Shahzad in the fifth over of the day seemed to lift Faisalabad but Shan and Saim soon conjured a riveting counterattack.

The second-wicket stand yielded a mammoth 367 runs in 403 deliveries with Shan and Saim punishing the Faisalabad bowlers all over the park. Shan recorded the 24th first-class ton of his career, smashing 13 boundaries and seven sixes along his 182-ball stay at the crease that was ended by Arshad Iqbal.

Saim also scored his runs briskly, belting 22 fours and two maximums in his 244-ball 200 not out. This was Saim’s second first-class century, having scored his maiden ton earlier in the tournament against Multan at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.

Faisalabad will be hoping for a better outing on the second day after only Khurram Shahzad and Arshad Iqbal were their successful bowlers on day one as Karachi Whites maintained a run-rate of 5.10.

Scores in brief:

Karachi Whites 398-2, 78 overs (Saim Ayub 200 not out, Shan Masood 180; Arshad Iqbal 1-57, Khurram
Shahzad 1-60)

Hanif Mohammad Trophy
22nd October 2023

The last round of the super-four stage of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2023-24 commenced today at two venues. Quetta scored 44 runs after bowling out Islamabad for 150 runs in 53.3 overs at Multan Cricket Stadium. Abbottabad, on the other hand, posted 113 runs after dismissing Hyderabad for just 128 runs in 53.1 overs at the Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan.

Quetta v Islamabad at Multan Cricket Stadium

Islamabad’s decision to bat first after winning the toss at Multan Cricket Stadium backfired as Quetta had them bowled out for just 150 runs after 53.3 overs on the first day of the last round of the super-four stage of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy. Rizwan Ali scored 36 runs from 113 balls including a boundary and was the highest scorer for the side. Farmanullah Khan (29, 47b, 4x4s) was the other contributor with the bat. Jalat Khan returned with two wickets while Gohar Faiz and Najeebullah Jr had three each.

In return, Quetta got a solid start to their batting. They posted 44 runs after 19 overs and did not lose any wicket. Opener Latifullah Shah (31 not out, 62b, 3x4s) scored majority of the runs for his side.

Abbottabad v Hyderabad at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex in Rahim Yar Khan

Hyderabad failed to back their decision to bat first and were dismissed for 128 runs in 53.1 overs. Daniyal Hussain Rajput (48, 143b, 6x4s) was the lone warrior for his side. Spinner Jawad Ali, who scored 19 runs from 62 balls including two boundaries, was the second-best batter of the innings. Fayyaz Khan registered a four-fer while Khalid Usman and Adil Naz had three wickets apiece.

In response, Abbottabad posted 118 runs in 29 overs, while losing four wickets. Anees Azam Khan (53, 44b, 8x4s, 1x6) and Mohammad Arif (42, 71b, 3x4s, 2x6s) were the prominent run-getters for the side. Jawad picked three wickets. He was supported by Majid Asghar, who returned with one wicket to his name.

Quetta v Islamabad

Islamabad 150 all out in 53.3 overs (Rizwan Ali 36, Farmanullah Khan 29; Gohar Faiz 3-29, Najeebullah Jr 3-50, Jalat Khan 2-29)

Quetta 44-0 in 19 overs (Latifullah Shah 31 not out, Hazrat Wali 10 not out)

Abbottabad v Hyderabad

Hyderabad 128 all out in 53.1 overs (Daniyal Hussain Rajput 48, Jawad Ali 19; Fayyaz Khan 4-32, Khalid Usman 3-6, Adil Naz 3-41)

Abbottabad 118-4 in 29 overs (Anees Azam Khan 53, Mohammad Arif 42; Jawad Ali 3-27, Majid Asghar 1-19)

what a pitch to play a fc match on ...complete road

Not sure how the pitch played out later in the match but for the first 10-15 overs, ball was swinging around a bit. Definitely doesn't seem like a pitch that has any assistance for the spinner as Ali Asfand was taken to the cleaners.

We'll see how the pitch looks for rest of the batsmen but I think both Shan & Saim batted well with the pitch getting easier to bat on as the game went and taking advantage of it.
