What's new

Quetta Gladiators (168/6) beat Karachi Kings (164/6) by 4 wickets in Match 22 of PSL8

Guptil on the other side has scored thousands of international runs and has an ODI double ton

Chacha didn’t even bother consulting him

Honestly speaking

KK should have been the third best side in the competition after IU and LQ

They botched easy wins this season

Everytime Nawaz bats well in a batting position he gets moved from that position. Shadab, Nawaz and Imad should not bat higher than 6.
Iftikhar, Malik and Sarfraz should not be selected in PSL.

Karachi need to look for a big win here

Their nrr is crucial

Challo glad this whole Umar Akmal is back thing is over

Their NRR is better than Zalmi’s. They need wins and for Zalmi to lose atleast 3 more games. Simple equation..

Multan will probably throw their game against Zalmi if they qualify before it

Guptil has been pathetic, playing less than run a ball. The way he has batting since that century is to say I have earned my money.

Guptil has been given tremendous vote of confidence by the QG Franchise. Barring that once century against Karachi, he has done zilch in all the other games and has infact contributed significantly to their defeats.

What did Iftikhar and Nawaz do?

What has Shadab being doing at number 4?

Sorry - Wasn't he the best talent ever?

Fact is, as you have stated, he is no better than other he is supposed to replace.

Has Musa pitched a single ball up in the block hole?

Why is this guy so scared to bowl full??

Gladiators need 74 runs in 37 balls.

Required rate is 12 , both the batsmen have to get going here , to have any kind of chance

Sana Mir:

“When the required run rate is up to 13, five runs of 5 balls is a really good over”

I really didn’t think of that Sana

Too much chopping and changing by Quetta in their playing 11. You have to show faith in your chosen squad even if they fail 1-2 games. Hafeez should have been a regular in the playing eleven along with Umar Akmal. You have to identify your match winners and stick with them throughout.

"Not for the first time" Sarfaraz unable to get a move on - Doull

KK messing this - really disappointing this

Fatties like Tayyab Tahir will cost their team with their lack of fitness in the field at the most crucial moments.

KK's fielding has probably been the worst in the tournament.

Some very lazy fielders.

Yamin's lack of pace really is a hinderance especially in the death overs.

Lol Aamir Yamin keeps getting picked by the KK Franchise, keeps getting the final overs and keeps getting the final overs to bowl and he has done zilch for the Franchise. Sums up the shambolic management by the KK Franchise.

Karachi will probably lose to even worst team of SLPL or BPL. One of the worst team assembled, full of oldies, has-beens and sloth like movers.

Hahaha match winners are the first team to be knocked out.

Expected they were led by a pathetic management as well as a bottler in Imad. This is quite funny for all the rubbish they were saying and are the first to go out.

Sarfaraz has played a good hand here

He was lucky that Guptill successfully took all the responsibility. Without him Sarfaraz would have really played another match losing knock.

Imad Wasim | Karachi Kings captain: I think he played really well but we bowled badly in the last five overs. I think we have to come out with plans. It’s very disappointing for me and the Karachi fans. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way. Along with the luck, we also made some mistakes. (On his injury) I will see if I can play the next game. It was sore so I had to take myself off after the first over. We will sit together and discuss whatever we can. Oh yes, we are all professionals. Winning and losing is part of the game. Last game against Lahore and we will definitely try and put up a good performance. It hasn’t been our season, very disappointed but this is how life goes.

Mohammad Nawaz: I think it was really difficult when we lost five wickets quickly. Martin was on the crease, previous game he won the game for us so we had belief in him. He showed again that experience does come in handy. He tried to rotate the strike in the middle overs and then finished it off brilliantly. The body doesn't feel well when you have back-to-back games. In the last two games, I was hitting the right lengths. We as a team knew that whatever happened we cannot change it. We just have to win all the games and give ourselves a chance.

Sarfaraz Ahmed | Quetta Gladiators captain: (On his finger injury) Will go to the dotor for an x-ray, not looking that good at the moment. The kind of combination we have, the wicket was looking a bit difficult, we made a lot of mistakes in the field. Fielding is a very important area. There is pressure on our team, we did a lot of mistakes today but happy to get over the line today. Peshawar are on 6 points, they have 4 matches left. We will try to win the rest of the matches and we will see what happens.

Martin Guptill | Player of the Match: I didn’t have much of a choice really. They made it extremely difficult in the middle overs and we lost 3-4 wickets at that stage. Losing wickets early on really hits the run chase and it was difficult to play attacking shots. It is going to giving us a lot of confidence, a day off to come back to play in a couple of days and the boys will be flying high, hopefully another couple of points to finish off.

QG and KK are both going home early now. It is not good for the quality of the PSL when you know by 70% of the tournament which teams are qualifying for the playoffs and which teams are going home. There has to be a mechanism to hold these sides accountable and give them the danda. I am surprised don't the sponsors demand action and accountability.

He was lucky that Guptill successfully took all the responsibility. Without him Sarfaraz would have really played another match losing knock.

That’s what all Pakistanis do though at the PSL anyways

An astonishing ambush from Martin Guptill left Karachi Kings stunned and delivered Quetta Gladiators’ second win of the HBL Pakistan Super League 8.

Quetta Gladiators struggled for the most part in their chase of 165, losing wickets regularly, but Guptill’s onslaught at death helped them to a four-wicket win. With 57 needed off 24, Guptill smoked James Fuller for 24 runs, smashing him for two towering sixes and three fours, in what turned out to be a match defining over. The New Zealander and Sarfaraz Ahmed stole 14 and 11 runs from the 18th and 19th over delivered by Musa Khan and Mohammad Amir.

Aamer Yamin needed to defend eight off the last over and Sarfaraz’s run out on the second ball promised to spice up things, but Dwaine Pretorius, playing his first HBL PSL 8 match, smashed a boundary, took two, and again hit a four to take Quetta Gladiators over the line. Guptill returned unbeaten on 86 off 56 balls.

Quetta Gladiators’ previous win this season was also against Karachi Kings and was also delivered over a heroic innings by Guptill as he hit the first century of season in that match. Out of his 252 runs this season, 203 have come against Karachi Kings and his best score against any other opposition is 15.

Quetta Gladiators seemed on course to another defeat as they were five down for 63 inside 10 overs, but a brilliant partnership between Guptill, who clubbed nine fours and four sixes, and Sarfaraz (29 off 25) rescued them. The two added 95 runs, doing the repair work for the most of the time and building up a platform to go berserk in the last five overs.

They required 68 off 30 and the pair dropped the first hint of their intentions when Guptill launched Amir for a six in the 16th to rack up 11 from that over after they could muster only 17 runs in the last three overs.

Tabraiz Shamsi’s wrist spin did most of the damage in the first half of the run chase as the South African dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed and Najibullah Zadran in consecutive overs. The start to the run chase was also underwhelming as Omair Bin Yousuf fell in the second over to Aamer and Mohammad Nawaz was caught and bowled by Muhammad Musa in the fifth.

After Naseem Shah removed Matthew Wade on the first ball of the match, Adam Rossington did most of the work for Karachi Kings, making 69 in 45 balls with 10 fours and a six. The only reasonable support he got was from in-form Imad Wasim, who returned unbeaten on 30 off 20 balls, as the middle-order failed to fire, thanks to Aimal Khan (two for 26) who removed Tayyab Tahir and Qasim Akram.

Aamer played a handy cameo in the end, smashing 23 off 11 (two sixes and a four) that lifted Karachi Kings to 164 at the loss of six wickets.

Both Aimal and Naseem finished with two wickets each.

Scores in brief:

Karachi Kings 164-6, 20 overs (Adam Rossington 69, Imad Wasim 30 not out, Aamer Yamin 23 not out; Aimal Khan 2-26, Naseem Shah 2-31)

Quetta Gladiators 168-6, 19.5 overs (Martin Guptill 86 not out, Sarfaraz Ahmed 29; Tabraiz Shamsi 2-20)

Player of the match – Martin Guptill (Quetta Gladiators)

What was the point of dropping Sharjeel??

This management are stupid their was numerous times when people came in to the xi and dropped then brought back then moved down or up the batting order.
