The 2025 edition of the Pakistan Super League is here and it is set to be a grand one at that. The cricket afficianados of Pakistan were thoroughly entertained not too long ago when the Champions Trophy was being held but the host's performance certainly didn't live up to expectations. It is now time for the crowd to rejoice again as Pakistan's finest mingle with talent from all across the globe. Match 2 will be played between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium at it will also be the first match of a doubleheader day. Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators are two teams that made it to the playoffs last time around but didn't play each other in the final four and both were eliminated by eventual champions Islamabad United who rallied to win three playoff games in a row to clinch the PSL 2024 title. Generally, PSL isn't played around this time of the year but the schedule was pushed back due to the Champions Trophy and for the first time, both the IPL and PSL will coincide with eachother, giving cricketing fans so much to look out for. Talking a bit about the teams, Zalmi have edged things out against the Gladiators in the last 5 meetings but they both won a game each against eachother in the last season. Zalmi will be led by the dynamic Babar Azam and he will have a talented squad at his disposal with the likes of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Alzarri Joseph and Saim Ayub in the mix. Zalmi also have some hard-hitting and upcoming talented batters in the mix like Max Bryant, Mitchell Owen and Abdul Samad, all of whom can take the game away from the opposition just like that. Quetta Gladiators on the other hand have a great mix of players, a lot whom are seasoned T20 campaigners. Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Amir are a couple of veterans who are still going strong but a lot will depend on the younger players in the squad. Mark Chapman and Finn Allen will be the Kiwi duo to look out for and the likes of Sean Abbott, Kyle Jamieson, Akeal Hosein, and Kusal Mendis are a few more big names in the team. This is set up to be a fascinating encounter and with not much separating the two sides in recent times, we can't really predict a winner. Who are you backing?

Squads:

Peshawar Zalmi:
Babar Azam, Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Haris, Abdul Samad, Hussain Talat, Nahid Rana, Arif Yaqoob, Najeebullah Zadran, Max Bryant, Mehran Mumtaz, Sufyan Moqim, Ali Raza, Maaz Sadaqat, Ahmed Daniyal, Alzarri Joseph

Quetta Gladiators: Faheem Ashraf, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, Rilee Rossouw, Akeal Hosein, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Haseebullah Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Nafay, Kyle Jamieson, Khurram Shahzad, Usman Tariq, Mohammad Zeeshan, Hasan Nawaz, Danish Aziz, Kusal Mendis, Sean Abbott, Shoaib Malik

This the game you have to watch.

Plenty of youngsters will be up against each other. Both teams have players capable of giving their teams a firey start in powerplay.

Quetta might be favorite to win the league this year.

With ongoing IPL, willow TV is not showing PSL in USA, where to watch it in USA? Anyone knows ?

Battle of 2 proper teams
PZ’s batting lineup is quite weak. only Saim and Babar can be considered reliable batters. Haris lacks consistency and shouldn’t be in the starting XI, while Talat isn’t suited for T20 cricket.

In contrast, QG boasts a much stronger side with proven T20 players like Finn Allen, Mendis, Roussow, Malik, Hassan Nawaz, and Khawaja Nafay. all of them offer more firepower and depth than PZ’s lineup.

Should play both mark chapman and Fin Allen. Also Saud should open as Hasan might struggle against swing upfront

Lol you should be more focused on Finn Allen v Saim Ayub or Mitch Owen.

I’m not interested in discussing on Vauxhall Astras and Toyota Prius. That’s for guys like @Devadwal and @jamie smith fan

Talk to me about the Audi RS7s and Lamborghinis
But saud is a Lamborghini for you.... Why ignoring him now???

He is Mercedes S class

In the context of T20 openers, him and Babar are not in the league I want to discuss and give serious thoughts on. I don’t have time to waste here.

But @Devadwal and @jamie smith fan will engage you in thrilling conversation I am sure for this.
Not talking about openers or not... It is about captaincy and the match...

Do I care about PSL stats. Absolutely not .
At most check the scoreboard whenever IPL game's are not ongoing:kp

What’s being good against pacers? Waiting for the ball to be pitched up to play a pretty cover drive?
What being good against spin?? wait for fuller length so he can sweep????

Talk about cricket brother... I asked a simple question.

SAUD or Babar in terms of this game... who is gonna score more... who is gonna win???

simple question... no trolling here.

Well, yes Brian Charles Lara saab it’s to have a plan to keep rotating the strike and not get bogged down at the crease. If the Sweep is something you play well, it’s a top ploy against spin.

Cover drive is also a top shot... But that is not what i asked...

Look at my question again... I just wanna talk about the game bro.. No individuality

Oh bhai in T20 I want to talk about the gun batters.

It’s not in my interest to discuss fakes.

We can have that discussion in Test cricket.

PZ is more concerned about everything other than cricket. Their owners have become very despicable. We may soon see Javed Afridi entering the politics too.

Waiting for Abdul Samad or Mohammad Haris to show what they got.

Better.

Yes, hoping for some proper emerging talent.
What other talent we have in the squad??? in your eyes??

I want to see mehran and Hassan nawaz also if they both are in 11.

Lol saud is the captain of a T20 team. He shouldn't even play t20s and 50 overs cricket.

What a fraud this saud . Quetta is actually decent this time around but they ruined it by making saud captain.

Quetta has ruined their team before with that sarfraz and now this saud.

Saud did well in the last season.

Maaz sadaqat khwaja nafay haseebullah, omar bin yousuf, new addition by Quetta named Umar maybe Umar is another saim ayub or khwaja nafay as Omar Associates is famous for scouting.

They need to let maaz and saim open with Babar at no 3. But ik King will want to open.

Excited to see Finn Allen though, Huge huge threat for Zalmi

Samad has been a big big disappointment a bit likr asif ali..played couple of decent innings in a local league and straight in pak team unbelievable

He’s the biggest current established pro in PSL history IMO

I think AB had retired for SA when he decided to play a few games for LQ… this guy still has at least 5-7 years left at the top level

Not fair to write off in first season on the scene

But then you will come on every thread to remind how Pakistan youngsters, whom Rana is backing, are not good

Yeah it’s a sin to back youngsters in Pakistan according to Devdas. And the confused @jamie smith fan who isn’t sure what a Tullah is because Abishek isn’t one of them according to him.

Abhishek isnt a tulla,he is a proper player.
Fraser,haris,rizwan,hassan fit the tulla definition.

Toss Update:

Peshawar Zalmi have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

Quetta Gladiators
(Playing XI): Saud Shakeel(c), Finn Allen, Hasan Nawaz, Kusal Mendis(w), Rilee Rossouw, Shoaib Malik, Faheem Ashraf, Kyle Jamieson, Mohammad Amir, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq

Peshawar Zalmi (Playing XI): Babar Azam(c), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris(w), Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Hussain Talat, Max Bryant, Mitchell Owen, Alzarri Joseph, Sufiyan Muqeem, Mohammad Ali, Ali Raza

So let’s make it very clear,

Babar will open and aim for a 140sr as an opener, and his backers will demand his spot back in the side because they will say he has “improved his sr”.

It’s all a load of crap!

He will strike at 100-110 at first team international level/ICC tournament level as an opener.

Owen & Bryant pushed down to 6 & 7. Linde & Samad on bench. What is this?

Quetta always does this. They must pick at least one rubbish TTF player in their team. It's their tradition.

Ab was never good in t20. He played a few gun games for LQ, but for some reason despite being one of top 5 best and most destructive odi batsmen of all time,

He sucked in t20 at any position. Finn Allen on the other hand is the opposite. Sucks in other formats but is a force of nature in t20 and is one scary batsmen.

Very excited to see Mitchell Owen, however I believe maaz should be given a few games.

Ideally I would like maaz and Owen to open with saim moving to no 3 just for one game to try out the combination and saim returning to opening in the next few games.

But ik king won't play at no 4 even though ironically in t20 it would be the best position for a batter like him

Saud was screwing Nafay in the National T20 too. He was playing Shan Masood ahead of him. This is what guys like @gazza619 want though.

This is your reality. This is your culture.
Nafay is in the kachra zone at the moment. He needs score tons of runs in domestic cricket before deserving anything.

Saud preferred his Karachi buddy 50 year old khurram manzoor over Nafay. You won't hear a word about that. In fact the same people were justifying it.

managements have to realize besides entertainment psl is for unearthing new talent. Why are they giving chances to Shoaib Malik

What the heck is he doing playing cricket at 50.
Haddi tutt gayi te jurni bhi ni at this age.

Absolutely, Khurram deserves it. The guy has done a million miles in domestic cricket
