What's new

Quetta Gladiators defeat Islamabad United by 7 wickets in 6th match of PSL 4

Who would you rather have , Umar Akmal or Malik, Hafeez ,or Sarfaraz?

Sarfaraz is the captain so cant be dropped. Haris will come in for Talat in ODIs and Umar should replace Shan in the team in my opinion.

Shadab’s form is seriously worrying with the World Cup so close. Multan need to give Irfan Khan a chance, wee need more spin options

if he keeps this up it will be hard to ignore Umar. In terms of raw talent he is the best we have had with Inzi.

Honestly seeing him play like this just annoys me. Williamson, Smith, Kohli and Umar all emerged around the same time, and at the start Umar was the one was raved about the most by forgein commentators, yet look where the others are and where he is now.

So many false dawns, but hope is eternal. He will never be the player he probably should have been but hopefully he can be useful again

Does anyone if Umar Akmal has been working with a batting coach ? I know he has been working with a fitness coach but he seems to have improved his shot range slightly.

He always had all the shots but struggled with mentally understanding the game

Yes he is completely out of form, last month or so has been worst for him in terms of stats

Umar Akmal should replace Shan in the ODI squad

If QG wins, Sarfraz owes him big time and if he keeps it up certainly with a shot in the ODI side.

Guys on misson like Umar Akmal and Haris Rauf are the ones who win you the WC :inzi2

That's unlucky from Sami. Overstepping is unforgivable but barging the stumps is unfortunate when you've bowled your man.

Should have pulled out of the delivery. He flicked the stumps with his foot, should've felt it.

Really want to see Shadab finding his rythm back for the sake of Pakistan

Question is where would Umar bat?

For me top 4 is locked.

This is how the lower middle order looks right now

5. Malik
6. Sarfraz
7. Imad

Ideally you drop Malik and play Akmal at 5.

He was always the best PAK ODI batsman debuted in between almost 20 years - that's between MoYo & Babar........ 3rd best in Test for 17 years, between YK & Babar. And, he can teach PAK batsmen few tricks better than Grant about playing through off-side or smashing anything over 125K on back foot.

Its the other way around too.

Sarfraz was the one who gave Umar a chance after Umar had a pathetic PSL last year and due to his discipline he was criticized left right and center from everyone.

Now not only Sarfraz picked him in Quetta he is playing Umar at no 4 and has given him a license to play his natural game.

I said this multiple times before and almost 2 years back when i joined this forum that players like Umar Akmal who are naturally talented but have discipline issues thrive under Sarfraz. Sarfraz might be a school teacher on field but he is a really nice guy off field and friends with players and knows how to get the best out of them. Even his rival Kamran Akmal has good words to say about Sarfarz. I was happy when Quetta picked Umar as i knew now we might see a changed Umar Akmal.

And please no one compare Ahmed Shehzad with Umar. Ahmed is a limited player while Umar is gifted.

:salute

Everyone abused Misabh for rescuing his team and putting up the same total as ISLU did today.

While they're praising ISLU for reaching this total. :)))

Double standards.

Quetta cruising to victory here.

Yes I wont mind that. We have already got accumulators dont need another at no 5

Anyway, excellent work by Akmal

Brought the rr down and some much needed impetus in the innings

Up to the rest of the batting to carry on the momentum and chase it down

He was asked at a presser about UA's innings in the first match. He said: "Umar Akmal played well last night, I watched him. I think his talent and ability have never been in question".

Of course.

But he still has issues with him, not ability related but ego.

Good thing is Umar now knows he needs to finish matches off, good 15, 20 isnt enough

IU were 8/3.

PZ finished 4 wickets down.

Shadab could very well get dropped by IU, especially with gohar waiting on the bench. He’s been shockingly poor.

These are things for what national coaches are for, to provide players that mindset improvement. Ability like Umar is hard to find

More than IU, its a worry for Pak national team as he was supposedly our main spinner

When you was initially calling for his selection I didn't agree. But now I'm fully on board with it.

umer khan should be our main spinner

shadab needs to figure out what he wants to do... be an all rounder or a bowler.

I do agree Sarfraz off the field is a nice bloke and holds amicable relationships with his players.

But the reason why I said he owes him is because Sarfraz's captaincy was awful where he allowed his side from a position of supreme strength to concede a decent total and not for the first time either as evident from the Asia Cup game against Bangladesh who went on to score a competitive total after being 3 down with hardly any runs on the board.
