Quinton de Kock vs Babar Azam

Fair enough. Amla at one point was mind-bogglingly consistent in Tests and the one-dayers. He scored 254*, 114, 123* in three consecutive innings against us. Amla was around 26 then. Couple of years later made 313 at the Oval, 121 at Lords, 110 at the gabba, 196 at perth. Around the same time he was like in top 3 ranking in both formats. Infact no.1 in Tests. Inspite of all that he didn't have this much hype. Babar is not even close to that peak yet. But his career could be similar to Amla if he continues gaining improvement. May not be the most dangerous batsman. But a highly consistent batsman.
I quite enjoyed the way you calmly derailed the hype train. If Babar was Indian he would probably be dropped after first few tests, hell probably wouldn't even be selected for tests considering how poor his FC stats are even by Pakistani standard.

Quinton vs Babar should happen in this march..

Both batsmen opening the batting.

Both are captains of their respective teams.

Both are best batsmen of their respective teams.

Both are in red hot form.

Who do you think will come top ?

This is why de Kock is special. 38 runs off 13 balls and why he is a more dangerous T20 batsmen than say, Babar.

I did not realise there is a comparison thread for this set of players too. It’s a joke now.
Quinton is an insane player and will send shivers down the opposition. He can fit into any team combination and is a match winner to the core.
Sure if you want to just go by averages and not much match winning performance go with Babar

I didn't knew I bumped this thread. Thought posted this on the match thread, lol.

Babar also flopped. Don't tell me about meaningless runs.

Are you having a laugh?
Babar scored a 100 in a must win match against NZ.

Did De Kock even make a 100 runs in total in the 2015 WC? :)))

Can you please show us Babar’s 2019 CWC stats and De Kock’s 2015 and 2019 stats?
Thanks

There’s no doubt that QdK is much more talented than Babar but the latter covers it up with sheer hard work and is contributing consistently to his team’s totals. Would be great to have a batsman as consistent as Babar in my team.

Babar azam leaves QDK in the dark. It is disrespectful to compare them.

QDK can make 35-40 off of 15 balls on his day like the windies T20 specialists but he’d never play clutch innings and go big. Something Babar is a specialist at.

Babar has a way higher glass ceiling. Babar ceiling is being compared with Kohli.

QDK ceiling is amongst other WK who average 40 odd and get blistering starts.

Can you list Babar Azams clutch innings to date? I can't recall even one of them. If his such a 'clutch' player it shouldn't be too hard to list them

QDK is overrated because he can play at a much faster rate than Babar.

Otherwise, Babar has outperformed QDK every step of the way.

You’re talking all this crap.
100 vs nz in a must win wc game.
It doesn’t get more clutch than that.

Must win, as well as with New Zealand on a hot winning streak without losing a single game in the tournament yet. That 100 singlehandedly kept Pakistan alive in the tournament and contributed to the momentum that let Pakistan go from second last place in the table to 5th place and missing out on semis purely because of run rate. They missed out to NZ, the same team Babar destroyed.

Babar has also played fighting knocks in the previous England tour and the recent Australia tour. In Australia he hit a 100 and a 97 while having Yasir Shah at the other end, at more than half the wickets down already. He is singlehandedly responsible for sparing Pakistan the humiliation of being all out for 100-150 both matches. Babar is a fighter and is consistently being let down by his team.

And the 1st test vs SA when we were down and out at 110/8 but then Babar scored scored a 70 and got us to 180. We could have won that match if our batting had done better in the second innings

I'd answer that with a visual aid. A video I recordd myself. Who would on knew it would be used to serve you humble pie one day.

So beside that 100 against New Zealand, all of Babar's 'clutch' inninngs resulted in losses. Actually NO 'clutch' innings of Babar has led to a series win against a non-minnow. Those clutch innings being mentioned are meaningless.

RIght, so he become number 1 and 2 in t20 and ODI cricket by luck? His innigs would result in more wins if he had another semi decent batsman or two in the side.

Sachin also scored his runs in losses. You are just blind and ignorant.

Sure if you like a slogger pick De Kock.

If you want a proper player that can perform when the pressure is on then pick Babar.

"when matches have been won'", That is such a bad implementation of stats. For all we know Babar could have scored all those runs in dead rubber matches, hence it is important to list those 'impactful' knocks. Citing his high average in won matches is baseless. List those won matches and how it affected the outcome of a series.

The burden of proof lies with you! You’ve done a lot of talking but shown no empirical evidence to back your claims. Just assumptions.

It’s funny because you’ve been saying the opposite the last 3 years up until now

de kock is ahead IMO but Babar can end up being better batsmen. QDk will end up as second greatest wicket keeper batsmen after Gilchrist.

In short you mean you have got nothing, zilch? Guess that is the end of this discussion. bye

Yes, so Babar has one real match winning innings, i.e. the one against NZ in semis, how many does QdK have? And were they as epic as the one by Babar?

Moeen ali Scored 39 of 11 so he is better then both babar and De kock Right ? Right?
And ali team won the match so his inning was a match winning? Right? Right?
De kock scored soft runs because his team didn't won ? Right?

If you apply the same logic of match winning innings they apply on babar then De kock inning should be put in the dust bin bcz it wasn't match winning inning

Kok bhai has some serious hitting and stroke making ability, he is just unmatched on his day.

An inning of 39(11) is absolute brilliance in any format. Whether that is enough or not on that day to win his team the game depends on other 21 men who were playing the game.

Soft runs depends on context. Given the context, de Kock played a brilliant inning irrespective of whether SA won that game or not.

It's funny when world cricket is mentioning Babar in the same breath as Kohli, Smith, Root and KW, while some experts of the game here on PP believe he was comparable to KL Rahul, de Kock, Iyer, Hope etc

Wonder why these other individuals not have any hype on them? Or are the experts on PP the real deal when it comes to cricket analysis?

:13:

Babar and QDK are both exceptional cricketers. QDK has not progressed the way many imagined he would/should and is still known for flashy but unsubstantial knocks. Babar is progressing a lot better, in a shorter span of time and is now regarded as one of the premier all format cricketers on the planet.

The reality is, both men have different roles in their teams and if we decided to a pick an XI to play across both formats, both these guys would be a part of that.

just ignore them buddy. We all know that babar is a class player. However don't underestimate Rahul. He definitely has potential to be a great player. he is still only 26 or 27.

babar is not at kohli or Smith's level yet but he is up there with root and Kane.

Some poster are making it sound like de kock is a mediocre batsmen and comparing him with Babar is insult to Babar.. well Qdk's test average of 39 as wicket keeper test bat is equivalent to a specialist batsmen averaging 45+.

De kock has also played some fantastic game changing test knocks already, he was pivotal in the test series win in Australia 2016( that team didn't had AB and Amla was schooled by Hazelwood).

FGS, he has 15 ODI hundreds and around 5000 ODI runs. It's a blasphemy to call this bloke a slogger. He is a world class player and has potential to be an ATG. Babar is also world class and has potential to be ATG, so the comparisons with de Kock is quite fair.

De kock is certainly ahead right now with 15 ODI hundreds at a better Strike rate overall compared to Babar's 11. QDk is 27 only and just like Babar, his peak days are yet to come. Babar's performance in World Cup was good but de kock peak days in WC is yet to come so there is no concluding of Babar being a better big match player than Qdk.

In tests, he has 5 hundreds as wicket-keeper batsmen and is a very good keeper. Obviously, he has played more tests than Babar but there shouldn't be doubt that he is a brilliant batsmen and right up there with Babar as the next two great all-formats batsmen after the quartet.

In short you mean you have got nothing, zilch? Guess that is the end of this discussion. bye

If you had any brain cells you’d realise the burden of proof lies on you. Google it.

Statistics have been provided to you by posters. Instead of refuting it with segmentation of the stats and proving your point.

You have lazily and ignorantly made assumption without any empirical evidence.

Even then you decided to use playground defends tactics to deflect from providing evidence to your claims.

It seems people are using strike rate to determine who’s better opposed to average and performances such as hundreds.

People outside of Pakistan setups and circles are now making comparisons statistically between him and Kohli.

Even the discussion of him being amongst the Fab Four.

Yet here people are arguing he’s no better than a keeper who gets to good start but does not convert. Someone who’s not even on the radio as a ATG

No, he's not. All four of Kohli, Smith, KW and Root have tremendous amount of experience as compared to Babar Azam. I doubt he is comparable to any one of them.

However, I do believe he is by far the best batting talent right now among upcoming players. Labuschagne is good, but he has yet to tour the subcontinent and prove himself there. He has had some beastly home stats, but if you want to hype Labuschagne based on that, might aswell hype Sharma too, as he had a gun season on home tracks recently.

Babar has done well since a while now.

I am not convinced on Rahul, till he proves this run of form is not temporary. I saw the meltdown KL Rahul suffered in the past two seasons, and he is yet to make a come back to the Test team.

Both young players and newly appointed captain carrying a weaker team on their shoulders.

QDk is 27.5 years old and Babar is almost 26.

QDk - 2900 runs @39 but keeps gloves.
Babar- 1900 runs @44 but a specialist batsmen.

Tbh, always hard to compare a keeper batsmen to specialist bat but we must agree that these two are the best all-formats young batsmen going around after the Fab Four.

Although Babar hasn't reached his best in test yet, I think it is fair to say that he is a much better batsman than Qdk in all formats.

Qdk has underachieved massively in both the two major formats- Tests and ODIs( more so in World Cups).

16th ODI hundred for QDk , he has been at his best since removed from captaincy.

What are the stats now?

de kock has extra gear of attacking but poor record in World tournament.

Babar doesn't have that much gear as QDk but can score quick runs at a fine level too and has already done better than QDk in one World Cup compared to Qdk's two world cups.
