Former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed has slammed PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja, saying that he has followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and is just passing time in his post.

The Pakistan team has enjoyed a successful run in the past few months after their solid outing in the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, Ahmed feels that the PCB Chairman hasn't made any good decisions after taking up the post.

Speaking a YouTube channel the former cricketer said that the team selection and hirings within PCB is still not based on merit.

“Can you tell me one good thing that Ramiz Raja has done since taking charge? The criteria of team selection and hirings within the PCB are still not based on merit,” said Ahmed.

The former Pakistan cricketer admitted that he had high hopes when Raja was made the PCB Chairman but claims that improvements haven't been made and the 59-year-old isn't working for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.

“When Ramiz Raja was elected PCB Chairman, I thought that things will improve but that has not been the case so far. He is also like his predecessors who is passing time rather than working for the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” said Ahmed.

Ahmed also slammed Raja's decision to hold a junior PSL, saying that the former Pakistan captain should have focused on organising two-day or three-day tournaments. He said that decision will destroy Pakistan cricket as it will make youngsters think that they don't need to play the longest format of the game.

“Instead of holding a Junior PSL, chairman should have focused on organising two-day or three-day tournaments. He is going to destroy Pakistan cricket with such decisions."

“The youngsters will think that they don’t need to play long form cricket and instead focus on hitting sixes. This mentality will not affect under-19 cricket but also under-13 cricket and their families due to the money involved.""

“People all over the world are saying that T20 cricket has destroyed Test cricket but our chairman is trying to organise Junior PSL,” said Ahmed

Ramiz will find that its not that easy to remain criticism free so he better have a good way to answer such outbursts.

Tanvir is someone who is probably never happy at home either. If he criticizes you then it means that you are doing something right.

I feel Tanvir always makes valid points but he will never be taken seriously because he has played a handful of matches for Pakistan.

He should have played more as I think he was a good bowler for sure. If he did play, let’s say 20-30 Tests at least, the man would be so much more credible.

Same story with our ex-cricketers. Scream until PCB gives you a job.

No. To be taken seriously you need to have reputation of making good and valid points.

Tanveer ahmad only sits on tv and just loves to critisize whoever he sees.

The guy has no logic and doesnt understand how things work.

Some former Pakistani players:

No job with PCB - criticise them for anything and everything.

Job given by PCB - the same Board and people are the best.

PCB's reserves are at an all time high. Their is concrete steps being taken to improve pitches. Ramiz must surely be doing something right.

A valid criticism of junior PSL - could spell the death of the longer format in Pakistan

Yes junior PSL is a strange one.

Is there really a need for it in Pakistan at this moment in time?

Indeed there is as our U19 performances have badly dipped for a long time while India is producing quality as far as their U19 team in concerned.

Other leagues don't target youngsters

We can keep debating over it again and again, without a solid conclusion.

1) Even now every youngster wants to get a league contract early in his/her career, be it RajAngad Bawa, Yashaswi Jaiswal and other u19s from India or Haider Ali, Md Haris, Shadab Khan and the remaining from Pakistan everyone wants to be part of it. Teenage is one of the most brittle phase in one's life, youngster who don't get an opportunity in the premier league of their nation can get depressed or feel unwanted (even Ahmed Shehzad, 30+, still feels unwanted) PJL will allow them an opportunity to get in the front line and play.

The league will run for 15days and then they can play 3 day or 4 day matches.

2) It is ODIs that is at a risk from T20s ans not Test, Test matches are still going on like they used to 10 years ago whereas ODIs are Shrinking.

PJL will aim to modernize, professionalize Pakistans U19 cricket to make it compete with the Indian U19 team and to act as a feeder to the PSE and the national side.

Rest of the U19 structure which has regional 3day as well as List A competitions are obviously continuing as they are so this league of couple of weeks or so is not going to change/damage mind set for the youngsters however, if right people are involved in the league it will give youngsters the opportunity to learn a lot in those two weeks which would help them in all spheres of their game.

I personally think its a good initiative. A short crisp event in any format (Be it T20s) while working with good set of coaches is going to be a great learning experience. Understanding the modern day requirements, temperament and fitness regimes is as important as developing your game. So if the league can help youngsters in those aspects it will be serving its purpose. Plenty of U19 and junior level tournaments already in the structure as a platform to develop the game of the players.

Speaking in an interview:

"The meeting with Karachi based former cricketers was meaningless"

"Chairman came to meet us at a time when things are already uncertain for him. But, I made the most of this opportunity and put Karachi's cricket issues in front of him. I was very blunt and straight forward unlike others who were present in the meeting"

To a query about being offered a role by PCB chief in the meeting

"Whoever said this to you or spread it on social media, misquoted facts. In fact, Ramiz Bhai in general asked everybody in the meeting 'will you be available if any post is offered to you in the PCB? - I was surprised to see the response. Even, 70-years-old former cricketers raised their hands to show interest for the job in PCB"

"But, I can assure you one thing, you will never see Tanvir Ahmed in any PCB post ever. Because, I know nobody allows you to work with honesty there"

Tanvir Ahmed on Social Media

"Ramiz Raja Sahab, if you remember, I told you that Karachi players face injustice. See, I wasn't wrong. They are facing it again"

"Why Saud is facing such a behavior. A lot of dear ones got chances after coming back from injury, then why not Saud?"

"Ramiz Raja Sahab, let your 'Yes Man' chief selector Wasim sit with me and I will ask him about this selection. On what basis, he is doing injustice to Karachi players"

Seems the Karachi versus the rest of Pakistan thinking is still alive.

Happy birthday Tanvir Ahmed
