No team from India, SA, NZ and SL

Adding 1 team from each nation would make it more interesting. Probably call it a League t20 WC rather than Global league.

Wood to lead Hampshire at GSL in Vince's absence

Hampshire club captain James Vince is set to miss the Hawks' participation in the Global Super League (GSL) with Chris Wood taking up the role for the tournament.

The club are one of five sides heading to Guyana to take part in the inaugural GSL in late November.

Hampshire say Vince is contracted to play for Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, which runs from 21 November to 2 December.

In his absence, the club's all-time leading T20 wicket-taker Wood will step up to take over the captaincy as they travel to South America.

Why the Carribbean?

Terrible timings, zero crowds and low scoring pitches

Recipe for disaster
It's Guyana - they've got some oil money to throw around now. Exxon are even sponsoring the tournament haha

Their pitches have always been slow, low mudbeds producing attritional, low scoring contests.

However Barbados and St Lucia typically produce excellent wickets.

So an attempt for another CLt20 , very difficult to catch broadcasters without circus masters, but but again it's an attempt hopefully the script writing will be beyond stick cricket level to grab eyeballs.

Like 146/0 in PP.

Or 8/6 while chasing 113

GLOBAL SUPER LEAGUE MATCH 1

AMAZON WARRIORS START THE GLOBAL SUPER LEAGUE WITH A WIN

The first match of the Global Super League was a pulsating affair between home side Guyana Amazon Warriors and Lahore Qalandars, the Warriors ultimately prospering in the end by six wickets with 12 balls remaining to get their campaign off to a winning start in front of plenty of local support.

Imran Tahir won the toss for the Warriors decided to insert the Qalandars, Tanzim Hasan Sakib had the honour of picking up the first Global Super League wicket by pinning Mirza Baig lbw in the second over of the match. The Pakistan side rolled with that early blow as Baig’s opening partner Adam Rossington hit some lofty blows, landing two sixes and three fours in the early exchanges before he was well caught by Dwaine Pretorious, the South African all-rounder’s evening was to prove far from quiet.

Indeed, the match could be reduced to a tale of two overs all told. Qalandars made steady progress in their innings whilst suffering regular losses that meant they never really broke the shackles or put the home side’s impressive bowling line-up under too much pressure. Tahir, Gudakesh Motie and the USA’s Hassan Khan turned the screw with tight spin bowling, Qalandars Tom Abell anchoring their innings to see the visitors to 121-5 at the start of the 19th over.

Enter Pretorious. The South African pocketed an incredible four wickets in his final over to end up with figures of 4/21. His two catches in the outfield in addition saw him claim the Player of the Match award at the close. Abell, Carlos Braitwaite, Asif Afridi and Faheem Ashraf all fell to Pretorious in the fateful 19th over with Salman Mirza out in the next over to complete Lahore’s capitulation. A target of 125 was well within the Warriors reach.

So it proved, the match hung in the balance until the 18th over of the Warriors innings, with 17 runs needed off 18 balls left arm seamer Salaman Mirza was plundered for 20 runs off his final over as the Warriors claimed the win. Shai Hope impressed with an unbeaten 45 off 43 balls while Keemo Paul landed the coup de grace with a six into the crowd to finish on 27 from just 13 deliveries. A statement of intent served up by an impressive Guyana outfit to get the inaugural Global Super League underway

HAMPSHIRE WIN IN SUPER OVER COMEBACK

The second match of the Global Super League (GSL) saw a thrilling encounter between Hampshire Hawks and Rangpur Riders in Providence, Guyana. Both sides finished their 20 overs on 132 runs apiece and had to be split by the tournament’s first Super Over. The Hawks eventually prospered with one ball to spare, a Liam Dawson smear for six seeing them snatch the points at the last.

Hawks captain Chris Wood took it upon himself to bowl the all-important six balls for the English side, Khushdil Shah opened the shoulders to deposit him down the ground for six but was also run out off the final delivery attempting a third run. The Riders posting 12-1 off their Super Over to leave the Hawks needing 13 to take the spoils.

In response, James Fuller pinged Zak Chappell’s first ball for six over the leg side before the bowler struck back with a slower short ball that Fuller could only club straight up in the air for the bowler to take a simple return catch. With the pressure ramped up and the crowd and both dugouts watching on nervously, Hampshire stalwart Dawson stepped up to seal the win.

Earlier, Wood won the toss and chose to bat first. Shan Masood was the star with the bat in hand for Hampshire as he scored 56 off 41 balls to see that a competitive total of 132 was posted. Masood’s knock was the first half century of the competition and he played shots all around the ground, bringing up his fifty with an audacious reverse hit. The innings would see him scoop the Player of the Match award at the end of the evening.

Masood eventually departed the scene in the final over of Hampshire’s innings, one of five wickers to fall to muscular seamer Chappell. Chappell had an impressive night, bustling in and extracting to some zip out of the Providence surface, picking up both Tom Prest and Joe Weatherley in the fourth over of the match and then cleaning up the Hampshire batting card in the 19th with the removal of Danny Briggs and Sonny Baker in the consecutive deliveries to snuff out the innings.

His impressive figures 5-23 marked a career best but it was a cruel end to the match for him as his batters couldn’t get the job done, failing to get over the line with only 13 runs needed and 18 deliveries in which to get them. The tied score meaning that Chappell was called up to bowl one last over, with fateful consequences.

Amazon vs Victoria, 3rd Match at Providence

VICTORIA SHOCK WARRIORS AT PROVIDENCE

The third match of the Global Super League saw another close encounter between home favourites Guyana Amazon Warriors and Victoria with the Australian side coming out on top by four wickets and with four balls remaining.

Corey Anderson won the toss for the visiting side and he decided to stick the opposition in and field first in Providence. That looked a brave decision as Moeen Ali set about the bowling to lay the foundations for a sizeable score. Jackson Smith removed Roston Chase at the end of the third over but that was the only success for the home side before Ali departed for a typically eye-catching half century at the end of the tenth over. Smith again doing the business and splattering the stumps.

Shai Hope made 40 and Hassan Khan 25 as the Warriors hauled their way to a competitive total of 162/6. It proved not to be enough. There was tight bowling from Imran Tahir and his side looked to have put the home side in command and at 69/4 after nine overs the match looked to have swung decisively towards the Warriors on home turf and in front of a loyal crowd.

A few overs later there was a feeling of disbelief as Victoria rallied with some late order hitting, keeper Scott Edwards and eventual Player of the Match, Karima Gore, showed real composure and no little skill in chasing down the target.

Edwards fell with the job not done entirely, Tanzim Hasan Sakib scudding one past his defences to bowl him, but Gore held his nerve and together with Dominic Drakes they got their side home in the final over. Indeed, the job was done in some style with both men finding the boundary exactly when they needed to. With six runs needed off the final six deliveries, Gore sent Dwayne Pretorious to the boundary twice inside the first three balls to seal the win.

All sides have all now got their GLS campaigns underway and Victoria sit at the top of the table after an ice-veined start to their campaign.

Result Summary

The fourth match of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) took pace under blue skies and bright sunshine in Providence, Guyana, as the Lahore Qalandars take on the Hampshire Hawks and run out eventual winners by four runs.

Carlos Braithwaite won the coin toss and decided to have first use with the bat but his side were put under immediate pressure by the English outfit. Mirza Baig was cleaned up in the second over by the wily left-arm spin of Danny Briggs whilst opening partner Adam Rossington hung around to provide some ballast. Qalandars couldn’t break the shackles though, when Rossington fell for 30 off 29 deliveries the Pakistani side were struggling at 37-3 off eight overs. It was the story of their innings, Hampshire bowled tight lines and denied Qalandars opportunities to pick up easy runs or opportunities to find the fence with any regularity.

Some much needed lower order hitting from Player of the Match Luke Wells (35* off 24) and from Muhammad Akhlaq (23* off 12) would prove crucial though, Akhlaq smiting three sixes off James Fuller’s second over with some lusty blows down the ground and over midwicket.
Hampshire struggled with the bat in response, spluttering to 50 off the first ten overs, leaving them with a demanding run rate for the rest of the game. Asif Afridi’s left arm spin blocked up the scoring, just 16 runs came off his set of four overs and the Hawks joined up a series of dots with the bat to see their required run rate go into double figures.

With three overs to go the Hawks needed 36 from 18 deliveries. Ashraf pulled off a fantastic catch diving forward low to the turf to get rid of the dangerous looking Howell and then Liam Dawson committed the cardinal blunder of not running his bat in when attempting a quick single a couple of balls later, Carlos Brathwaite and Shamsi combining to run him out at the non-strikers end.

Chris Wood hit the final ball of the penultimate over from Ashraf’s over wide long-on for six to leave the Hawks requiring 21 off the final over. Captain Brathwaite took it upon himself to bowl it for the Qalandars and his opposite number Wood was then run out in a similar manner to Dawson.

There was a sting in the tale and late drama as James Fuller hit two consecutive sixes off Brathwaite to leave Hawks needing a third in a row to steal the win at the last. Brathwaite held his nerve to deliver a perfect yorker and secure the win for Qalandars. Both sides have now won one and lost one as things tightened up in the GSL table.

WARRIORS BOUNCE BACK AGAINST HAMPSHIRE

Sunday’s second match in the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) saw English outfit Hampshire Hawks take on home favourites Guyana Amazon Warriors with both sides having won and lost a match so far in the tournament.

Some remarkable hitting from Warriors at the last saw the home side boss the end of a tricky run chase and run out eventual winners by four wickets with ten balls remaining in front of an appreciative crowd in Providence.

The match had been a tussle and remained very much in the balance up until the 18th over of Warriors’ chase, with Gudakesh Motie falling for 16 the Warriors were left with 24 runs to get off the final 18 balls. Hawks skipper Chris Wood stepped up for his side but six balls later the match was all but over, Hassan Khan pummelling him for six over the ropes before Romario Shepherd closed out the over with consecutive boundaries.

With just five runs then needed for a crucial win, Hassan hit Benny Howell for another boundary four and then collected the single needed to secure victory for his side. The win sees the home side keep their tournament hopes alive as they go to four points and second in the standings with one further match against bottom of the table Rangpur Riders to come in the group stages as the inaugural GSL heads towards the business end matches.

Warriors captain Imran Tahir enjoyed a fruitful evening, after winning the toss and choosing to field first he put in a Player of the Match performance with his impressive command of spin bowling, using all his flight, guile and experience to pick up 3/18 from his four overs. Tahir had Shan Masood stumped when the Pakistani ace was motoring along on 79 runs from 53 balls and then kept the pressure on the Hawks by pocketing both Howell and the dangerous Liam Dawson in quick succession.

Hampshire eventually made 146/6 off their 20 overs but the total proved a few short against a confident Warriors batting card that saw decent contributions from the middle order engine room of Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase and the impressive Hassan Khan see them home in style.

Hawks now need to pick up points in their final fixture against top of the table Victoria in order to reach the latter stages of the tournament.

SHAMSI INSPIRES QALANDARS VICTORY

Another closely fought match in the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) saw Lahore Qalandars defeat Victoria by 10 runs in Providence.

The Australian outfit had looked the side to beat after they won their first two matches in style but they were undone by an impressive Qalandars display with bat and ball with Tabraiz Shamsi's spell the difference between the two sides.

Victoria won the toss and captain Corey Anderson chose to insert the opposition. Mirza Baig played an anchoring role from the top of the order, accumulating 39 from 36 balls to set the foundation for a decent total.

Anderson shuffled his pack and used a total of seven bowlers, it proved an effective tactic as the Qalandars batting card never managed to pull away, Mohammad Faizan was run out for 25 off 21, Tom Abell and Mohammad Akhlaq made 17 and 26 respectively and were the only other contributions of note.

Qalandars captain Carlos Brathwaite fell for a golden duck after seeing his stumps splattered by Jackson Smith, Smith picked up three scalps and was joined in the wickets by the impressive Dominic Drakes. Drakes also collected a trio of wickets whilst stitching together 14 dot balls in his four overs to finish with a frugal economy rate to boot.

Victoria needed 140 runs to win after dismissing the Qalandars for 139 but after a confident opening stand of 67 between Blake Macdonald and Joe Clarke they then lost regular wickets over their remaining overs.

Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for Qalandars, the slow left arm wrist spinner proved nigh on unplayable on the night, taking 3-11 off four overs that included an unbelievable 16 dot balls and not a single boundary being hit off him in a well deserved Player of the Match performance.

Karima Gore provided resistance for Victoria but when he fell for 25 off 22 at the start of the 19th over it meant his side were down to their last pair.

12 runs played one wicket in the final over, Faheem Ashraf sealed the win by cleaning up Jackson Smith with his third delivery.

The result sees things tighten up in the GSL table with Qalandars, Victoria and Guyana Amazon Warriors all on four points with two wins and a loss apiece. The next round of matches will prove crucial in deciding who makes the final.

RANGPUR RIDERS CLAIM FIRST WIN OF GSL

A thrilling match between Rangpur Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors provided plenty of excitement in the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) with Riders pulling off a 15 run victory that saw them leapfrog Hampshire Hawks in the table.

Riders captain Nurul Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that looked for all intents and purposes to have not worked out when his side were skittled for 117 runs. A procession of Riders wickets fell from the get go, they found themselves 14/4 and 27/5 as their top order was blown away by the Warriors bowling outfit.

The Warriors shared the wickets around but Dwayne Pretorious was the pick of them, an impressive performance in Providence saw him take three wicekts and only concede 15 runs on a night when they were a particularly precious commodity.

If it wasn’t for a skilful and obdurate knock from Khushdil Shah then the Riders wouldn’t have posted three figures. As it happened, Shah made a crucial half century, patiently working the ball into the gaps, frustrating the Warriors bowlers before growing in stature to find the boundary and eke the Riders run rate upwards. His 58 off 47 balls included two fours and four sixes with the next highest score coming from his captain, Hasan, who posted 15 off 26 to provide some solidity in the middle overs.

In response, Warriors found the going with the bat equally tough. Moeen Ali and Pretorious fell cheaply at the top of the order and once Shimron Hetmyer was scudded out for a first ball duck by Kamrul Islam Rabbi then the home side were in all sorts of trouble at 7/3 and then 27/5, a teetering score that the Riders had found themselves on an hour earlier.

Warriors couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole as effectively however, Shai Hope was dismissed by Rishad Hossain for 35 off 44 at the start of the 18th over and from there the Warriors were reliant on their bowlers to try and haul them over the line. Romario Shepherd kept his side in the hunt by smearing Khushdil for six in the penultimate over to leave 16 runs needed off the final six balls albeit with no wickets in hand for the Warriors.

Shepherd couldn’t finish the job, falling off the first ball off the last over caught by Wayne Madsen off Kamrul Islam Rabbi as the Warriors were consigned to 102 all out and a second defeat of their GSL campaign. They now face a nervous wait to see the results of Thursday's double header and whether they have done enough to secure a slot in Friday’s inaugural GSL final.

Cricket Victoria put in another commanding performance in the ExxonMobil Global Super League (GSL) in the first of Thursday’s double header of matches in Guyana.

Dominating with the bat after being inserted by opponents Hampshire, the Australian outfit rattled along to a lofty total of 170-4 before dismissing their opponents for just 95 runs inside thirteen overs. The victory puts Victoria in tomorrow’s GSL final with their opponents yet to be decided.

Sanjay Krishnamurthi put in a Player of the Match performance with 77 runs off 49 balls from the top of the order, a burgeoning and brutal opening partnership with Blake Macdonald (59 off 43) saw Victoria amass 137 before Hampshire got their first wicket of the afternoon.

After the two set openers fell the run rate tailed off slightly but a target of 170 was one of the highest of the tournament and put significant pressure on the English side.

Hampshire’s top order all got starts but with Joe Westherley top scoring with just 18 runs the scoreboard pressure won out and the rest of the batting imploded.

Callum Stow was the pick of the bowlers for Victoria, he picked up 4-17 in just 3.1 overs to snuff out hopes of a comeback from Hampshire, the English side took drinks whilst teetering on 82-6 and their misery was compounded just a couple of overs later.

It was the ned of the tournament for Hampshire as they suffered their third defeat in a row. All eyes are now on Rangpur Riders and Lahore Qalandars to see who Victoria will face in a battle for the inaugural GSL trophy.

I know its not gotten the viewership here on this forum however, Mohammad Akhlaq has looked good in patches with some clean hitting.

Being wasted at No.6. Should be coming up the order.

Surprised to see very little interest. The quality of cricket played is very good. These 130 pitches always provide a good contest

RANGPUR RIDERS REACH GSL FINAL

A rain shortened match between Rangpur Riders and Lahore Qalandars saw the Bangladesh Premier League side make the final of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) after they won by 23 runs on DLS. Tomorrow’s final will see Cricket Victoria take on Rangpur Riders to determine who will lift the inaugural GSL trophy.

The weather intervened on a couple of occasions in Providence, to such an extent that the match was eventually reduced to a nine over shootout.

Riders captain Nurul Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first. Eventual Player of the Match Steven Taylor and Soumya Sarkar got the Riders off to a healthy start, putting on 47 runs for the opening stand before Sarkar was bowled by Salman Mirza for 22 runs off 13 deliveries.

The wicket brought Saif Hassan to the crease and he set about plundering Qalandars attack, finding the fence on five occasions with four fours and a towering six.

Hassan and Taylor remained undefeated on 27 (14) and 32 (27) respectively when the rains returned and denied them the rest of their batting effort. It was calculated by DLS that Qalandars would require a stiff 111 runs off their nine overs in order to win.

The task was a steep one and so it proved, despite 31 off 20 from Mirza Baig and a rapid 25 off 12 balls from Tom Abell the run rate was too steep for the Qalandars and they lost wickets attempting to throw caution to the wind and find the necessary boundaries to keep them in the hunt.

Needing 33 runs off the final over, Faheem hit a six off the first ball before nudging a single to bring Carlos Brathwaite on strike. Needing four sixes in a row at the last it was fitting that Brathwaite was on strike but he couldn’t repeat the heroics and thunderous sixes he struck off Ben Stokes in the 2016 World T20 final, Zak Chappell bowled him first ball. Qalandars ended up on 87-7 off their nine overs, a valiant effort but the DLS target was a challenging one and proved just out of reach.

The final scores meant that Qalandars were knocked out and so too home side Guyana Amazon Warriors as the margin of victory was too great by the Riders, each side finished on four points apiece but the superior run rate saw Riders go through to tomorrow’s grand final where Victoria await.

RANGPUR RIDERS WIN INAUGURAL GSL

Rangpur Riders dominated Cricket Victoria to win by 56 runs and become the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) champions on a historic night in Providence.

The Riders put in a near flawless performance in the final and carried on where they left off after yesterday's victory saw them finish second in the standings on net run rate. Victoria had looked the team to beat all tournament and Riders duly did put in an impressive all round performance.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Riders captain Nurul Hassan couldn't have dreamed of a better start to the evening, his two opening batters hit the ground running and showcased some nerveless, skilful and at times scintillating batting to put together a towering partnership for the first wicket.

Both Steven Taylor and Soumya Sarkar hit half centuries as Riders came flying out of the traps, Victoria's bowlers were treated with some disdain as the boundary hoardings were peppered constantly. Taylor eventually fell for 68 to Karima Gore, but not before the partnership had reached 124 runs in 14 freewheeling overs.

Sarkar carried on despite losing his partner, smiting seven fours and five sixes to make 86 runs off 54 deliveries, a player of the match performance in the final that saw him undefeated having carried his bat throughout the innings as Riders posted a swaggering 178-3 off their twenty overs.

Victoria had looked confident all tournament but wilted in the final in the face of such a lofty target. Joe Clarke offered the most resistance for the Australian outfit with 40 off 22 deliveries from the top of the order but a procession of wickets saw Victoria bowled out in the 18th over as Riders capped off a superlative evening with both bat and ball.

The wickets were shared around by Riders' bowlers but Harmeet Singh's slow left arm tweak was the standout, he collected 3-19 off his four overs to challenge Sarkar for player of the match and secure Rangpur Riders grasp on the GSL trophy.
