Shahid, Imam guide Nurpur Lions to win over Lake City Panthers

Fast bowler Shahid Aziz took four wickets while skipper Imam-ul-Haq and Hasan Nawaz hit solid forties to lead Nurpur Lions to an eight-wicket win over Lake City Panthers here at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Chasing a modest 124-run target, Nurpur Lions crossed the line in 14.3 overs for the loss of two wickets after they were set up by Shahid's potent 4-20 which restricted Lake City Panthers to 123 all out in 19.2 overs.

Imam and Hasan set up the win with a confident 79-run opening stand in 9.1 overs. Hasan hit three sixes and four boundaries in his fiery 31-ball 44 while Imam's 38-ball 45 had five hits to the rope. Pakistan U19 batter Shahzaib Khan chipped in with a 17-ball 28 not out, cracking two sixes and a four.

With the win, Nurpur Lions opened their account in the five-team competition after losing their first two games. Lake City Panthers have now lost two and won one in their three outings.

Sent into bat, Panthers lost opener Sharjeel Khan for five before Umar Siddiq, who scored a 28-ball 26 with two sixes and as many fours, added 45 for the second wicket with Haider Ali (26, 20b, 2x4s, 1x6).

Shahid, Khushdil Shah (2-26) and Musa Khan (2-32) triggered a middle-order collapse which saw Lake City Panthers slumping from 62-1 to 99-6. It was Danish Aziz who rescued Panthers to a respectable total with a solid 27-ball 34 which were studded with four boundaries and a six.

Scores in brief:

Great to see Nisar Ahmed performing so well. He was the standout Fast bowler in the National T20 Cup last year for me and he seems to perform every time he is given the chance. Great variations and hits the deck hard. Don't know what pace he bowls but he always seems to hurry the batsman.

It would be criminal for him not to be selected in the PSL by any team this year, I was surprised and disappointed no one picked him last year in the PSL Draft.

@emranabbas could you tell us where Arafat Minhas is. Last time you said he was in Zimbabwe. Is he walking by foot from there? Can you let us know what team he will play for when he's back?

what’s the point of him playing when half the tournament is over? Arafat Minhas is already part of Pakistan's plans; he doesn’t need to play this tournament to prove himself. Your taking this tournament too serious

What has happened to Imam? How is he playing aggressive shots with such an aggressive strike rate? :D

You are not answering the question. You said he wasn't playing because he was in Zimbabwe. He's barely played much cricket so that excuse is not on. Everyone who is dropped from the team for SA team is playing. Again you are making assumptions. This is a rubbish tournament which I already stated on day 1 of the tournament.

I don’t get what you’re moaning about. Why hasn’t he played much cricket? Maybe ask your so-called idiot captain Rizwan.

Arafat Minhas was picked for the T20 squad in Australia and Zimbabwe, but if he didn’t get a game, that’s on Rizwan whose TC you do all the time. Also, Arafat played in the Emerging Asia Cup. Have you been sleeping?

He's just had 3 international tournaments and your crying about some domestic T20's

Maybe you aren't aware I already created a thread about Rizwan's pathetic treatment of Arafat Minhas. You won't bring that up as it doesn't suit your lies.

Where do I do the so called TC of Rizwan? I have called out many times and frankly sick of him in t20s? Another lie from you.

You posted rubbish when I questioned why Arafat Minhas isn't in any squad by saying something along the lines of Babar and Rizwan fans don't understand that he's in Zimbabwe. Now all the players are back you are running away with making idiotic excuses such as the tournament is nearly finished, he's part of Pakistan team, he's played 3 tournament.

My life doesn't evolve around players like yours who is always crying about Rizwan and Babar. I don't care about players and will never be attached to them like you are. Hence coming up with Farhan etc being better than Babar. I will keep reminding you of that.

UMT Markhors and Nurpur Lions record wins in contrasting styles

UMT Markhors and Nurpur Lions recorded wins by three and 35 runs respectively, in contrasting styles on the sixth day of the Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup at Rawalpindi cricket stadium on Thursday, perching Markhors on top of the five-team table.

Markhors scored 170-6 on the back of a rapid 32-ball 39 by opener Fakhar Zaman who shared a solid opening stand of 74 with Khawaja Mohammad Nafay who hit a 30-ball 36. While Fakhar smashed a six and five boundaries, Nafay was more aggressive with three sixes and a boundary.

No.3 batter Muhammad Shahzad struck 28 off 25 balls with the help of two sixes and experienced Mohammad Nawaz knocked an unbeaten 13-ball 28 with one four and two sixes to lift the total. Usman Tariq with 2-20 and Tahir Hussain, who returned figures of 2-36 were the pick of Stallions bowlers.

ABL Stallions lost Yasir Khan (17, 10b, 2x4s, 1x6) early but Maaz Sadaqat (82, 53b, 10x4s, 2x6s) and Mohammad Haris rescued the innings with a strong 59-run stand off 41 balls for the second wicket.

Haris fell after scoring a fiery 16-ball 22 with a six and a four as it was left to Maaz to help the team cross the target. Team mentor Shoaib Malik chipped in with a 21-ball 16 as Stallions slumped from 127-2 in 15 overs to lose four wickets for 15 runs, including the well set Maaz.

Stallions needed 19 in the last over but fast bowler Mohammad Imran Jnr conceded 15 to steal the match. This became the third consecutive win for UMT Markhors while ABL Stallions suffered their first defeat after two wins.

In the second match, Nurpur Lions scored 194-5 in 20 overs against Engro Dolphins. Their skipper Imam-ul-Haq knocked a brilliant 48-ball 65 and Hasan Nawaz hit 34-ball 50 in a solid 100-run partnership in 11.3 overs. Hasan, smashed three sixes and four boundaries while Imam's knock had seven boundaries and a six.

Khushdil Shah, batting at No.5, blasted an unbeaten 22-ball 57 not out with six maximums and two boundaries as Nurpur Lions added a big 64 in the last five overs. Dolphins' Qasim Akram picked up three wickets for 21 runs in his four overs.

In reply, Sahibzada Farhan and Mirza Tahir Baig gave Dolphins a robust start of 57 in six overs. Tahir fell for 29 off 16 balls laced with a six and three boundaries. Muhammad Akhlaq fell without scoring. Farhan then added 51 for the third wicket with Umar Amin who made a 19-ball 25 with two fours and a six.

But once Farhan fell for 54 off 42 balls including three sixes and as many boundaries the chase fell apart. Skipper Faheem Ashraf tried valiantly with a cameo of 12-ball 27 with two sixes and as many fours but the asking rate soared beyond 15 an over.

Fast bowler Musa Khan was the pick of bowlers with 4-23 while Khushdil and Shahid Aziz fetched two wickets apiece. Lions have now won two of their four matches while Dolphins are winless in three outings.

Will be much appreciated if stats of some players are also listed , might help us in finding replacement for RizBar.
The potential candidate are

Sharjeel khan
Iftikhar Ahmed
Imam ul Haq
Azam Khan
Muhammad Harris

Hassan Nawaz continues to look fairly good and it certainly seems like he has plenty of shots in arsenal and power to back it up. Outside of that, not much batting talent I am liking for T20's. Maaz looks decent but not sure he is a T20 player. He seems to play more along the ground and looks conventional.

Agreed. There is a solid player in Maaz Sadaqat. At the moment he's not a t20 player but certainly has the ability to be one in future. Hasan Nawaz technique has become a little tighter and less brainless shots. He got good potential for t20s and hoping he keeps improving.

So far, no real talent has emerged from this event.
Hassan is doing s fine job though. Big guns like fakhar and sharjeel have been pathetic so far.

What a horrible decision by the umpire there. The ball pitched about a foot outside leg stump. Cant have such poor umpiring at this level.

Unfortunately ever since PDM came to government they cut down on domestic broadcast quality and commercial excellence.

We saw the peak during Ramiz's era. It was one of the few things he was good at as Chairman

ABL Stallions and Lake City Panthers come out winners in double header show

ABL Stallions had the better of Engro Dolphins to come back to winning ways, taking the match by just five runs while Lake City Panthers crushed UMT Markhors by six wickets as the double header in Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup excited the crowds at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Friday.

With the victory Stallions are now top of the five-team table with three wins in four matches, accumulating six points. Markhors suffered their first loss but were still second with six points in four matches.

Young Ubaid Shah, sibling of Test fast bowler Naseem Shah, held his nerves to defend 14 off the final over and despite being hit for a six by Salman Irshad came out with flying colours, conceding eight runs to give Stallions victory.

Dolphins managed to score 185-9 in 20 overs.

Chasing a big 191 for victory, Dolphins were treated well on tough waters as Sahibzada Farhan, who scored a brisk 59 off 38 balls with six boundaries and two sixes held the innings. Young Qasim Akram was good in support with a rapid 24-ball 37, spiced with two sixes and four boundaries. Together they added 46 off 27 balls.

When skipper Faheem Ashraf came to the crease, Dolphins needed 51 runs in 4.1 overs. Left-hand batter Faheem cracked two sixes and a four in his 12-ball 25 but in the end his runs were not enough.

For Stallions, spinners Usman Tariq (2-22) and Mehran Mumtaz (2-32) checked the run chase, while pacer Mohammad Ali finished with 2-34.

The most notable point of the match was the return of promising fast bowler Ihsanullah after being sidelined with elbow injury.

Earlier, all-rounder Hussain Talat kept his good form intact, scoring 57 not out off just 34 balls.

His knock included two sixes and five boundaries. Hussain added a good 109 runs off just 56 balls with Mohammad Mohsin. Mohsin’s eye-catching knock of 55 came off 32 balls which contained four boundaries and as many sixes. The duo smashed a big 65 runs in the last five overs. Leg-spinner Mohammad Ramiz Jnr was the pick of bowlers with 2-29.

In the second match, Haider Ali smashed a 29-ball 62 to help Lake City Panthers chase a 164-run target in 18.5 overs. Haider smashed five sixes and four boundaries in an eye-catching knock. Umar Siddiq (30) and Sharjeel Khan (23) laid the foundation with an opening stand of 52. Haider and Mubasir Khan furthered the chase with a third wicket stand of 65. Haider hit the winning six to seal the match.

The UMT Markhors’ total of 163 for eight saw young local boy Saad Masood play an anchor’s role with a 39-ball 63 not out. His innings was laced with two sixes and six boundaries. Saad lifted his team from a precarious 7-70 as he kept the scoreboard ticking, adding 35 for the eighth wicket with Nisar Ahmed (21) and another invaluable 58 for the ninth wicket with Akif Javed who made only six.

Nisar cracked two sixes in his ten-ball 21.

Scores in brief:

ABL Stallions beat Engro Dolphins by five runs

ABL Stallions 190-4 in 20 overs (Hussain Talat 57 not out, Mohammad Mohsin 55, Yasir Khan 36; Mohammad Ramiz Jnr 2-29)

Engro Dolphins 185-9 in 20 overs (Sahibzada Farhan 59, Qasim Akram 37, Faheem Ashraf 25; Usman Tariq 2-22, Mehran Mumtaz 2-32, Mohammad Ali 2-34)

Player of the match - Mohammad Mohsin (ABL Stallions)

Lake City Panthers beat UMT Markhors by six wickets

UMT Markhors 163-8 in 20 overs (Saad Masood 63 not out, Abdul Samad 24; Usama Mir 2-14)

Lake City Panthers 169-4 in 18.5 overs (Haider Ali 62 not out, Mubasir Khan 32, Umar Siddiq 30; Mohammad Imran Jnr 2-17)

Player of the match - Haider Ali (Lake City Panthers)

There some good young players in this tournament.

That being said their playing with the some terrible technical skills & some so-called hitters such as Danish Aziz.

Haider Ali seems to be in good form lately. People won't want to hear it but I would legitimately consider him as an option for T20's inclusion over guys like Tahir/Usman who simply don't look international calibre.

Liking Nafay/Hassan Nawaz/Saad Masood as some interesting talents long-term and have a long way to go but PCB should look to invest in them. Saad Masood in particular as a leg spin allrounder is very intriguing - his batting seems ahead of his bowling but if they can get his bowling to a reasonable level, I like his outlook for the future. I am not sure how he wasn't a guy picked for FC this season considering there were like 18 teams.

Hussain Talat is topping the runs leaderboard at the halfway mark of the group stage of the Champions T20 Cup.

Haider Ali is also in excellent form with a strike rate of 180+ and 12 sixes in this tournament.

ABL Stallions on top as talent burnishes in Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup

Mohammad Haris-led ABL Stallions lead the five-team chart as the first round of Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup saw the development of some of the new talent, the main aim of the event.

The five-mentors – Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis are guiding the talented players in their teams, using their enormous experience. One of the most pleasing aspects of the event is the return of talented fast bowler Ihsanullah who showed great promise in the 2023 HBL PSL with 22 wickets that deservedly won him the player of the tournament award and his team Multan Sultan the runners-up place. Ihsan, has played one ODI and four T20Is for Pakistan, and has returned to competitive cricket after undergoing rehab.

Engro Dolphins team mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed is optimistic Ihsan can gain full rhythm soon. “When Ihsan came to us we observed him and kept him in our T20 squad. We have gradually built him up. We did not play him in the initial matches and requested him to be kept in the squad,” said Sarfaraz. “He has played after a long time so his return will take time and he will gradually be at full throttle.”

There are other fast bowlers like Shahid Aziz who has taken eight wickets for Nurpur Lions, the most notable being his 4-20 in the team’s victory over Lake City Panthers. The 21-year-old from Kurram Agency will further develop under team mentor Waqar Younis. For the same team Musa Khan has eight wickets and backed by his 38 wickets in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He too is progressing to regain his place in the Pakistan team.

For UMT Markhors, Nisar Ahmed has six wickets in the tournament. Akif Javed is also developing by leaps and bounds. He has four wickets in as many matches and is staking claims for higher grades.

The 20-year-old all-rounder Saad Masood has come out in flying colours for UMT Markhors. The Rawalpindi lad scored 26 not out and grabbed 2-20 against Nurpur Lions – his only second T20 match. Then Masood showed great sign of maturity with a polished 63 not out to carry his team from a precarious 7-70 to 163-8, batting with the tail. “Saad’s performances have been outstanding so far and he has been the find of the tournament for our team,” said Markhors’ mentor Misbah.

Mirza Tahir Baig and Hasan Nawaz are two good openers who can go places. “If Mirza Tahir plays to his potential then he can go places,” said Dolphins mentor Sarfaraz. Markhors’ mentor Misbah was all praise for Hasan, “He has made a great mark in the T20 format and has displayed eye-catching performances in this tournament.”

Like a seasoned campaigner Hussain Talat has anchored ABL Stallions batting, knocking 218 runs with a century and two fifties. Panthers’ Haider Ali, with 188 runs at an average of 62 and strike rate of 182, sits on the second position. He earned praise and respect of UMT Markhors’ mentor Misbah, “Haider has turned up as a totally different player this tournament with an improved shot selection and consistency.” Spinner Usman Tariq heads the bowling table with nine wickets, lifting ABL Stallions to top position with three wins in four matches with one defeat.

UMT Markhors are placed second on the table with three wins, a defeat and slightly lesser net run-rate. Nurpur Lions staged a comeback by winning their third and fourth matches after losing the first two. They are placed third. Lake City Panthers have been hampered by the absence of their skipper Shadab Khan in two matches, suffering back problem. They are fourth with two wins and as many defeats. Engro Dolphins are at the bottom of the table, losing all their four matches.

The event will heat up at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday as table-toppers ABL Stallions face Lake City Panthers in the first match at 11am while Nurpur Lions lock horns with UMT Markhors in the second match at 3.30 pm.

Usman Tariq is the leading wicket-taker of the Champions T20 Cup so far!

He is the only spinner in the top 5, with Musa Khan and Shahid Aziz being the top fast bowlers on this list.

Yes. In place of Usman. easily he can replace him. Need to get rid of over-hyped, zero technique, tail-ender USMAN
This is why you have to back good players. Even if they loose their way or out of form. Cause you know they are the ones that will compete against international teams with modern play.

Same goes for Babar. Even if he's out of form. Everyone who has knowledge of Cricket knows it is in best interest of Pakistan if Babar gets back on track

But we need a middle order batter?

No 4 is best for him
He can play at no. 3 or 4. Fakhar's inclusion is uncertain as well. Irfan Khan I believe should bat at no. 5. For no. 6 you may need to make shift. Maybe a Shadab or a Jamal.

4) Haider
5) Niazi
6) Haris (WK)
7) Jamal/ Shadab

Not sure why shoaib malik is playing

Haider ali and hussain talat have the talent

Talat can also bowl military medium and can bowl a heavy ball they are much better than cross batter hacks that are tayyab and usman who simply are clueless against any decent level of pace bowling

The balance of some teams here is not quite right.

For example Panthers have Shadab, Usama, Arafat, Mubasir and Sajid. That many spinners shouldn't be in one squad. Because of it Sajid Khan is unable to get a single game.
