They invested in it so much that they havent even announced the squads.

I'm only looking forward to seeing Haris + Malik combo and their effect on the team's play style. Rest of the teams I expect regulation stuff.

I keep seeing videos of training. The squads look absolutely disorganized. Doesn’t seem to be any structure.

Welcome to Pakistan cricket.
Honestly, given the fanfare they’re giving this tourney I had high hopes for better organization. Even now they have time to get it together and make the Champions Domestic Set-up become the country’s premier cricket structure. Even though it’s just a variation of the set-up that Wasim Khan had, it will pay dividends if they do it right.

Champions League (FC)
Champions Cup (List-A)
Champions Trophy (T-20)

With proper support structure, full time coaching staffs instead of this mentor nonsense.

You’d think they would announce the broadcasters then

Not only does it look disorganized the players look out of shape and devoid of any talent

Hoping for some good games and players coming out of this tournament. PCB has hyped this event too much and people will not like it if it is another one of those events where people show no interest and it becomes boring in the end.

Out of these 100-150 players, I am hoping to see at least 10-20 new talented guys.

Presenting to you the broadcasters and commentators for this upcoming Champions One-Day Cup 2024:

wait a minuet what about overseas viewers. Surely the PCB youtube channel will stream it right?

Shah Faisal on the mic to talk sense

Salman Butt on the mic to bore the living daylights out of people with negativity and as if he averages 1000 as a Test batsman!

Marina Iqbal on the mic to praise Bobzy, Rizzu and Sheenu

I’m hyped for the PCB night of champions cup but would be so much more hyped if Sharjeel was playing. I want to see someone Smash Naseem the princess for 25 runs in the first or second over of his spell!

Rizwan’s UMT Markhors to take on Shadab’s Panthers on Thursday

• “Every player should believe they are here because they deserve to be, and this is their chance to make a mark and begin a busy season on an impressive note,” says Rizwan

• “Only the team that will show consistency will come out on top, and I firmly believe we have what it takes to be that team,” says Shadab

• Event carries a total prize money of PKR49million with the winner to get richer by PKR30million and losing finalist to receive PKR15million

Faisalabad, 11 September 2024:

Mohammad Rizwan will captain the UMT Markhors, with Misbah-ul-Haq serving as their mentor, while the Panthers will be led by Shadab Khan, with Saqlain Mushtaq as their mentor. The season-opening event boasts a total prize pool of PKR49 million, with the tournament winner on 29 September set to take home PKR30 million and the runner-up receiving PKR15 million.

On Friday, Mohammad Haris’ Allied Bank Stallions will clash with Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Nurpur Lions, followed by Saturday’s fixture between Saud Shakeel’s Dolphins and Shadab Khan’s Panthers.

All five teams have been in Faisalabad for the past five days, participating in extensive training sessions to prepare for this newly-launched tournament, which features the best of the country’s top cricketers. The tournament has been planned with an eye on next year’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with standout performers looking to strengthen their chances of breaking into the national side that will compete in ODIs in Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and a home tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa in the lead-up to the biggest ICC Event of 2025.

White-ball head coach Gary Kirsten will be in Faisalabad to observe the 50-over tournament, which will be played on a single-round basis. Later in the competition, red-ball coach Jason Gillespie will also join Kirsten in Faisalabad.

In this high-stakes tournament where every match counts, the top-four sides will progress to the playoffs, culminating in the final on 29 September.

UMT Markhors (previously Wolves) captain Mohammad Rizwan

“A high-quality domestic event like the Champions One-Day Cup is the lifeblood of any leading cricket-playing nation, as it provides equal and fair opportunities for both established and emerging cricketers to strengthen their claims for national selection. With that in mind, I am eagerly looking forward to this tournament and am confident it will meet all its strategic objectives.

“Given the format, as well as the talent and balance of all the teams, this will be a fiercely-contested competition. The team that consistently performs over the next 15 days will emerge victorious.

“The UMT Markhors boast some of the most talented cricketers. I want my team to enjoy this tournament, not be overawed by the opposition and demonstrate their skills to entertain the Faisalabad crowd. Every player should believe they are here because they deserve to be, and this is their chance to make a mark and begin a busy season on an impressive note.”

Panthers captain Shadab Khan:

“We’ve trained hard in Faisalabad and now it’s time to translate that effort into positive results. We need to bring intensity and passion every time we step onto the field, as this tournament will not be easy to win. Only the team that will show consistency will come out on top, and I firmly believe we have what it takes to be that team.

“Starting the season with a high-pressure, high-stakes tournament like the Champions One-Day Cup will set the tone for the rest of the 2024-25 season. As we will progress through the season, I have no doubt we’ll discover more champion cricketers who will not only break into the national side but also help Pakistan re-establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in international cricket.

“The Panthers are a strong and formidable side, with talented cricketers — both established and emerging. We have firepower at the top, a reliable middle order and wicket-taking bowlers. I see no reason why we can’t come together as a unit and perform.

“Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Mohammad Haris maybe my teammates in the national side, but if you will ask them the same, they will tell you: when we step onto the field, there are no friends and we play fair and hard to win.

“In the past few days, we’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support from the Faisalabad fans. Their enthusiasm shows their deep passion for the game and their respect for the players. I’m confident that over the next 15 days, we’ll further strengthen their belief in the national side, keeping their commitment to Pakistan cricket strong.”

I love the idea of this tournament. Bringing back the animal teams especially the Stallions and having Malik Mentor for the team he's famed for.

And just the mentor idea in general. Even aren't most of these cricketers playing for their actual region too? So there's a bit of pride on the line too.

Next 50 over World Cup is in South Africa

You need players who play pace and bounce well. You have to be ready for 350-400 totals on those decks. Who are you preparing for these roles?

Is Abdullah Shafique your guy?
Is Imam ul Haq worth investing in?

What the hell do you expect from Imran Butt and Usman Salahuddin??

Players like Haseebullah?!

Abdullah and Imam both are useless better to invest on young talent who can get u somewhere at the time of need.

Abdullah Shafique and Imaam ain't that old and are the least of our worries.
Your making the same old mistakes again and again.

Who cares if they are not that old? THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT TYPE OF PLAYERS!

They are just not those guys you need playing white ball cricket! There are plenty of crap, useless white ball players being invested in. Other countries are moving on and Pakistan are still stuck investing in crap white ball players!

Maybe they are seen as too green I suppose but if coaches/selectors really believed in their talent, they should have been kept.

In fairness, Hasan & Shamyl haven't done much domestically but at least Nafay has shown glimpses in PSL. Should have warranted a look in longer format though.
In fairness. There have been other young domestic performers like Huraira, Haseeb, Ghulam, Tayyab. Who have probably deserve chances ahead of these three young players.

It's hard to trim a team to 15/16 players squad. Someone has to be left out.

Chairman PCB attends Bahria Town Champions One-Day Cup opening match at Iqbal Stadium

The much-anticipated action in the Bahria Town Champions One-Day Cup has officially begun in Faisalabad, with the Iqbal Stadium set to host the entirety of the tournament. Cricket enthusiasts are abuzz with excitement as five teams will lock horns in this thrilling tournament from 12 to 29 September.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended his best wishes to all the teams and players participating in the Bahria Town Champions One-Day Cup. Mr. Naqvi emphasised that this tournament will significantly bolster domestic cricket and provide a platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills.

He expressed his satisfaction at the enthusiasm of the Faisalabad crowd and assured that PCB has made every effort to ensure excellent arrangements for the matches. The focus remains on providing the best facilities for cricket fans and ensuring a memorable experience.

Chairman also mentioned the PCB’s commitment to expanding the tournament to other cities, aiming to further promote the sport of cricket across the country.

A bunch of mediocre players playing against each other will not improve cricket in Pakistan...

This is domestic cricket. Not every player will be high quality. Neither does the PCB have a magic wand to make each and every player participating in it high quality.

Abdullah Shafique could not rotate strike against pace even in Indian conditions.

Can hit some incredible boundaries but overall game is very weak.

What a blockbuster tournament so far.

Big hitting. Quality bowling. Packed crowds.

Who needs international cricket?

Forget a year long IPL we need a year long champions cup.

The crowd for the 2nd innings was massive. Further evidence that ODI/List A cricket is still popular among masses almost everywhere outside of maybe England . Test cricket is the one really dying in places like PAK

You are rigjt. Cricket played at night draws big crowds in Pakistan.

Honestly in local Ramzan night leagues played at 10pm onwards you will get crowds bigger than test match crowds.

I expect big crowds for ODI tri series with PAK and NZ as well early next year.

He’s a waste of time.

Going to see every team play once and then I will make a list of players who clearly need to be disqualified from white ball contention.

Yes. It's a very interesting tournament . PAK can make a list of 30 probables from this to invest in for CT and 2027.

Instead of looking for players for now, they need to mark off those who really have no future in modern white ball cricket

Wishful thinking that Pakistan’s final 15 will include the best players of the tournament. I anticipate garbage like Azam Khan, Shadab Khan & Haris Rauf still making the cut.

This is Pakistan my friend. The land of injustice.

We have no high quality players at all... mediocrity vs mediocrity.. perfect recipe for our cricket to fall further..

Complete patta pitch which doesn’t really give any indication of whether the players putting up runs are quality or not. This type of cement pitch hardly tests the batsman, it’s mind boggling if the PCB’s intention is actually to unearth new talent or to do a tamasha for the fans.

The first game did gather the crowd for sure, especially in the 2nd inning.

People want to see young talent on the field.

I thought the pitch had decent bounce and spin in 1st innings and good movement in the 2nd innings under lights.

So the player of the match gets cash 90 USD. Shameful!

I bet that is less than what Naqvi spends on his dinner with friends at the expense of PCB.

PCB chooses Sarfaraz Ahmed for Champions Cup mentor role, Inzamam-ul-Haq sidelined

Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has not been selected as a mentor for the ongoing Champions Cup, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opting for Sarfaraz Ahmed instead.

Inzamam was among the candidates interviewed for the role, but the PCB ultimately chose Sarfaraz, who remains active in international cricket.

Inzamam’s exclusion comes despite his prior involvement with the PCB, though his exit as Chief Selector last year followed allegations of a conflict of interest.

In October 2023, Cricket Pakistan revealed that Inzamam held shares in 'Yazo International', a company managed by his agent, Talha Rehmani.

Rehmani’s agency represents several prominent Pakistani cricketers, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest while Inzamam served as Chief Selector.

Following these reports, Inzamam resigned, and the PCB formed a five-member committee to investigate the issue. However, the inquiry has since stalled, and no final outcome has been made public.

For the Champions Cup, the PCB appointed five mentors, each on a monthly salary of Rs5 million.

The selected mentors are Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. The PCB, in a press release, stressed that the selection process was conducted with transparency and rigour.

While Inzamam was interviewed for the mentor position, sources suggest that the PCB faced a choice between him and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Sarfaraz’s ongoing involvement in international cricket reportedly tipped the balance in his favour, especially as he will also be playing in the Champions Cup.

Inzamam’s exclusion from the mentor role, coupled with the unresolved inquiry, raises further questions about the PCB’s handling of conflict-of-interest cases, but the board has yet to provide clarity on the matter.

this tournament needed at least 2 more teams to give a chance to all the players who can make a case for pakistan likes of hunain shah shamyil haseebullah ubaid shah ali raza zaman khan and many more could have played but are now finding them selfs being left out

As per media reports:

PCB has revised the playing conditions of the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup at Faisalabad's Iqbal Stadium by modifying the bonus points rule.

Now, teams will earn bonus points based on the difference in run rate instead of the margin of runs or wickets.

Under the new playing conditions, teams will receive bonus points based on the difference in run rate in each game.

A difference of one run per over will earn one bonus point, two runs per over will earn two bonus points, and three runs per over will result in three bonus points.

Previously, bonus points were awarded based on the margin of victory by runs or wickets.

Is it me, or do the players seem more fired up in this than international matches. There’s more emotion, more desperation to win, more disappointment when things go wrong.

Compare this with international matches where they are smiling and backslapping the opposition. They almost seem star struck when they’re playing against international players.

Get your priorities straight - can you “show eyes” on the international stage too?
