Indias batting lineup in Test cricket is a well oiled machine. I will take any of their top 5 over anyone in our batting lineup. That is how good they are. Only Azhar and Babar + Haris in the future can compete with these individuals in Test matches. Rank them from best to worst. I'd say :

Kohli
Rahane
Rahul (ranking him this high not necessarily based on performance but potential and ability)
Pujara
Vijay

Tells you how good these guys are when Vijay is 5th on my list. Love watching these guys bat not only as individuals but in partnerships. Too bad India doesn't have a good enough bowling lineup otherwise they would beat teams away with this top 5.

As per experts on PP, Kohli is still pretty average player in the Indian line up,

Vijay-9
Pujara-8
Rahane-8.5
Kohli-7.5
Rahul-5
This is according to current form

Too generous with Kohli if you're basing it on current form. How does he get 7.5 when all he is doing is making useless runs on flat home pitches?

Sardonic posts never ruffle me. On topic, kohli earned those points on the back of a splendid innings in a raging turner in mumbai against England.

7.5 is way too high for a mediocre player . I would give him 4 (actually its 3 but bonus 1 for looking like Ahmed Shehzad).

Shehzad doesn't play for my team. Kohli has done wonderfully well since the England series and it is a matter of time before he eclipses his teammates, for now there are better players than him in the side.

Presently there is no better player than kohli in indian team. In what universe is vijay a better player than kohli and that applies to pujara as well

On current form 9.5 should do, if we're being facetious then anything between 0 ~ 10 is fine, Vijay/Pujara/Rahane at 8 & Rahul fluctuating between 4 & 8 depending on which side of the bed he wakes up from :))

He was replying a sarcastic manner to a poster who thinks Kohli is a middling batsmen in the current batting line up!

Of course I can see that, I guess you didn't see the sarcasm in my post?

No point explaining to a guy who has such poor sense of assessment. Not every student in a class room is bright.

On a side note Kohli just achieved the record of consecutive double hundreds in 4 test series. Looks good to continue the record in the next one.

He should have reviewed ..... Triple was on the offer easy!

I would wait until they start touring away.
Before I can form any conclusive opinion. However Rahane has been their best player. I rate him highly

Rahane and Rahul have disappointed in India,Vijay just doesn't go the extra mile. Kohli has been good and atleast having an impact.

Kohli Vijay Rahane Pujara Ashwin Rahul Saha

Pretty much all Indian batsmen have toured away, some multiple times.

They can tour every year but unless the pitch is not like that of Lord's Swinging conditions ,those are not "away" tours but just basically playing in India.

Unless Indian batsmen get bowled under 300, It will always be considered an Indian flat road!

I think some if not all have toured once in places like SA, NZ, ENG & AUS. Some might have done well while others haven't done to well. Hence I think we need a second batch.
I don't have any stats but Rahane has been the one guy who has been consistent in all conditions. Even then we can't draw any conclusions.

Sorry for not being a Virat 'fan boy' it must have plucked a nerve. Thanks for your compliment you're indeed a statsman.

Kohli
Vijay
Rahane
Pujara
Rahul

I was a fan of Rahul but he needs a swift kick in the back or a quick drop from the team.19 innings and only 5 innings above 40 is just not good enough for an opener.
Kohli
Rahane
Vijay
Pujara
Ashwin
