PCB announces schedule of remaining HBL PSL 2020 matches

Lahore, 2 September 2020:

Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the schedule of the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 matches, which were postponed on 17 March due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The four matches will be held in Lahore on 14, 15 and 17 November with only the Qualifier and Eliminator 1 to be a double-header. Eliminator 2 will be played on the following day, while the event will conclude on Tuesday, 17 November.

The dates have been finalised following consultations and discussions with the four playing sides – Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi – while start times will be confirmed closer to the event.

The final four matches of the event will be played under Covid-19 protocols, including bio-secure bubble for the players, match officials and event-related staff. The matches are currently planned to be held behind closed doors, though the situation will be closely monitored and will be reviewed in October.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “This announcement puts speculations to bed and provides absolute clarity and ample time for teams to plan and prepare for these crunch matches.

“It was important at this stage to state our intent and lock these dates in the diary in the best interest of the teams and the tournament.

“The PCB was always keen and committed to hosting the remaining four matches as it believed an event of the magnitude of the HBL Pakistan Super League deserved a winner. We saw the excitement and buzz in the lead up to the competition earlier this year and look forward to promotional activations that will engage the fans once again.

“The hosting of the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 matches also endorses Pakistan’s resilience in overcoming difficulties and challenges no matter what the nature. PCB is planning to hold its 2020-21 domestic season, which will include a number of age-group, men and women competitions, as well as home international series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“All domestic 2020-21 season matches will prove to be catalyst for the successful planning and delivery of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021, which will be held in February/March next year.

“We look forward to once again bringing joy to the nation.”

From the four sides to feature in the remaining HBL PSL 2020 matches, only Peshawar Zalmi is a former winner, lifting the trophy in Lahore in 2017, which not only makes these four matches more exciting but also fills the fans with anticipation.

HBL PSL 2020, the biggest cricket spectacle in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup, carries a total prize money of US$1million, including a winner’s award of U$500K along with a glittering and brand new trophy, and a cheque of US$200K for the runner-up.

Fixtures (start times to be confirmed in due course):

Saturday, 14 Nov – Qualifier (Multan Sultans v Karachi Kings), Gaddafi Stadium; Eliminator 1 (Lahore Qalandars v Peshawar Zalmi); Gaddafi Stadium

Sunday, 15 Nov – Eliminator 2 ((loser Qualifier v winner Eliminator 1); Gaddafi Stadium

Tuesday, 17 Nov – Final; Gaddafi Stadium

Can’t wait for that to happen! Hopefully we will have better weather next time.

In June 2021 we will visit windies for 3 tests which I believe will be a good and tricky series for this team.

Yes you are right. Also there is a limited overs tour of NZ in 2021 consisting of 3 ODIs and 3 T20s around Sep-Oct

What is the deal with these 2 test "series"? PCB continue to try and play as little test matches as possible. There are more T20's and ODI's in this schedule than test matches.

It's a home series. Hopefully New Zealand come to Pakistan.

It will be interesting with the 22, 17 and 15 cricket boards and their travel to Pakistan. Especially since the PCB has declared that they will only play in Pakistan.

Zimbabwe and NZ series is in place as mentioned in the first paragraph of my post. South Africa's tour of Pakistan is scheduled for Jan-Feb 2021.

The PCB has dates for the remaining PSL games, but no talk about the remaining Test with BD. Will they have dates for the unplayed test with BD? I think we all know that test will never be played.

Way to support Tests PCB.

That looks weak

We have a pathetic FTP. Why dont we have at least 3 test per series?

There is also a tour of WI consisting 3 tests and 3 T20s in Jul-Aug and home series vs NZ in Oct for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s which I missed.

The Windies are also awful. We need NZ for some tests as otherwise, this is a terrible FTP.

Whats the purpose? To keep the sponsors happy along with tv rights holder?

No one really cares about the completion of the tournament, the idea behind is to milk revenues through completion.

If it can be finished, they should finish it. COVID-19 situation will hopefully not become worse.

Do you even know why they play sports? The sole purpose is to make money. Without revenue no sport will survive. What's wrong in milking revenue?

The purpose is money. The broadcasters weren't willing to give full payment due to incomplete tournament

Good to see.

The notion of handing over the trophy to Multan because they topped the table was laughable.

But don't you think the PCB are financially screwing themselves up. They will have to bear heavy financial expenses to set up these matches in a bio secure environment, and also the possible travel arrangements of foreign players.

With no crowd and little relevance left for this edition. Their will be less TV viewership. Furthermore, the prizes for players and teams for this edition will need to be handed out as well now. The PCB could be left bankrupt after these matches. Shooting themselves in the foot.

The PCB also need to address the elephant in the room. Broadcasting rights. I think their current international broadcasting deal runs out this year. Perhaps, it is has already run out. They need to look for a deal. The current deal is/was for $150 million.

ISLAMABAD:

A banking court has asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to launch an inquiry against an investigation officer (IO) for conducting a lopsided probe into the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case.

In its written order issued on Saturday, the court directed the agency to take action against IO Farid Ahmed Khan after concluding the inquiry in a month's time.

A day earlier, the court had rejected the charge-sheet submitted by Khan with regard to scandal that emerged in February during the fifth season of the unconcluded PSL event of 2020.

The court had noted that the IO had earlier claimed that there was substantial evidence against one of the accused Muhammad Faisal alias Chitta but he later retracted that statement, giving the accused a clean-chit while also requesting the court to remove his name from the FIR.

The FIA on February 27 apprehended three persons allegedly associated with an international racket involved in match fixing, money laundering and terror financing.

The accused persons in collaboration with their aides mostly based in other countries and an international racket were engaged in defaming and sabotaging the 5th season of the PSL, a franchise twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015.

The FIA had initially arrested Mahendar Kumar, Naresh Kumar alias KG and Naresh Kumar alias Jani in an inquiry of the FIA Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) on allegations of keeping benami accounts, money laundering, and parallel banking practices.

The agency had also apprehended Muhammad Faisal alias Chitta, Ahmed Armaghan, Hanif Shaikh and Muhammad. These accused are still in custody while some other accused – Jabbar Amin, Aftab Ahmed alias Atif Dollar, Waqas alias Prince, Talha Siddiqui and Noman Ali – have been granted bail.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has directed Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises to submit financial guarantees for the tournament’s sixth edition by 25 September 2020.

The PCB had followed this process for the league’s first four editions as well.

However, it decided to abandon it for the fifth edition after team owners argued that the league has become stable and PCB should trust them with fulfilling the financial obligations for the league.

As a result, the PCB had accepted post-dated cheques from the team owners for the fifth edition of the PSL. Reportedly, two PSL franchises had failed to fulfill their financial commitments for PSL 5.

The PCB had also decided to seek a two-year guarantee instead of one in case a franchise fails to fulfill its financial obligations. Only time will tell whether PCB will ask these teams to submit financial guarantees or post-dated cheques.

Less TV viewership? LOL. Hell, this might break viewership records with people sitting at home.

They will have a small ad hoc deal with PTV, i reckon.

Lovely to see! Cant wait for cricket.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a notice to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and has asked the latter to submit the record of the employees hired for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) along with the record for broadcasting rights.

The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Cell has narrowed down its investigation which is now focused on irregularities in the PCB and the hiring of staff with exorbitant salaries.

Earlier, a PCB official had appeared before the FIA team last week and asked for more time. Senior officials of the PCB are also expected to be called for a hearing in the ongoing week.

The PCB has not submitted its records in this regard. They are expected to provide all records in the following week which will then be scrutinised by the FIA team. If irregularities are detected in the record, then a formal investigation will take place.

Later, the PCB also gave its response on the aforementioned inquiry by stating: “Firstly, the PCB generates its own revenues and receives no grants, funds or monies from either the Federal or Provincial Governments, the Consolidated Funds or the Government or Public Exchequer. The PCB reinvested the funds it generates in the development of cricket in the country. As such, there is no misappropriation of Government Funds in PSL.”

The PSL players will be also be in National T20 so would be interesting to see how they shape up going into these games

According to reports

PSL franchises have gone to Lahore high court against PCB.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – In an important development in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 match-fixing and money laundering scandal, a local court in Karachi Friday indicted thirteen bookmakers linked with an international network.

The bookies had contacted a cricketer during the fifth edition of the tournament and planned to defame Pakistan with the help of an international group. Mobile phones and other important evidences were recovered from the suspects.

On the other hand, the accused have denied any involvement in the illegal activity. The court issued notices to witnesses of the case and adjourned the hearing.

Lahore matches moved to Rawalpindi and Karachi due to smog

• Zimbabwe T20Is to be played in Rawalpindi, while the remaining four HBL PSL 2020 matches will be held in Karachi

• “Following the sudden deterioration in air quality and now further expected air pollution in November, we have made a swift decision to move the matches scheduled in Lahore,” says Wasim Khan

Lahore, 23 October 2020:

Taking into consideration the health and wellbeing of professional athletes and match officials due to the recent deterioration in the air quality caused by an early onset of intense air pollution in Lahore, which is expected to deepen next month, the Pakistan Cricket Board today decided to relocate scheduled matches at the cricket headquarters to Rawalpindi and Karachi.

This rescheduling due to weather conditions impacts the three T20Is between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, and the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 fixtures, which will now be held in Rawalpindi and Karachi, respectively, on the dates announced earlier.

PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said: “We have been keeping a close eye on air quality forecasts over the last two weeks. Following the sudden deterioration in air quality and now further expected air pollution in November, we have made a swift decision to move the matches scheduled in Lahore.

“The early onset of hazardous pollution and subsequent poor air quality meant that the risk to keep matches in Lahore at this stage was too great. An early decision was made to ensure logistical challenges could be dealt with sooner rather than later. We cannot and will not compromise on the health and wellbeing of the players or officials.

“The decision to move matches from Lahore was not one that was taken lightly. For the sake of everyone involved and to ensure the remaining four matches of the HBL PSL and the three T20Is against Zimbabwe were completed without risk or interruption, it was important to move the matches.

“I am grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket, the franchise owners, broadcast partners and our valued commercial partners for their understanding in supporting our decision.

“We also want to thank the federal and provincial governments, as well as law enforcing agencies for their understanding and continued support.”

Meanwhile, the High Performance department has decided that players featuring in the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will be released following the third round match to spend the break at their homes. Before returning to Karachi for the fourth round action, which begins on 20 November, the players will undergo Covid-19 tests at home and then another test upon arrival. Players with two negative tests will be allowed to integrate with their respective sides.

Director – High Performance, Nadeem Khan: “We are mindful and careful of players’ mental health during the Covid-19 times and, as such, this is a good opportunity for them to return to their homes when the event takes an 11-day break, spend quality time with their family and friends, and rejoin on 18 November to complete the tournament.

“These are difficult times for everyone, but the players are showing tremendous courage and bearing with these tough restrictions. As stated previously, we are keeping a watching brief on the Covid-19 cases and if we believe we can make some relaxations without comprising on the integrity of the competition and health of the players, then we will ease some restrictions.”

Revised schedule:

Why don't we invest in Hyderabad's Niaz cricket stadium

Perfect weather for international cricket

Why don't we invest in Hyderabad's Niaz cricket stadium

Perfect weather for international cricket

Stadium is not the only factor, entire Sindh under the PPP looks like a war torn country.

It is one of the safest cities in Pakistan

The ground in Hyderabad (Niaz Stadium I think), is in terrible condition. I think Sindh government has said they'll upgrade it many times but nothings actually ever happened.
