Enraged after being removed from a WhatsApp group, a man in Peshawar grabbed a gun, chased the group's admin, and shot him dead. The WhatsApp group's admin tried to meet the person to settle the dispute but ended up being killed, according to Pakistani media outlets.

Angered and slighted after being removed from a WhatsApp group, a man in Peshawar ignored reconciliatory attempts, chased the WhatsApp group's admin, and shot him dead. The murder over WhatsApp group took place in the Regi Safed Sang area on March 7, according to Pakistani media outlets. This incident has now sparked outrage on the internet too.

The exact reason why the murder accused, Ashfaq, was removed from the WhatsApp group by its admin Mushtaq Ahmed, isn't known yet. It is also being suggested that there could be a history of enmity between the two but the removal of Ashfaq might have acted as the trigger.

India too has seen attacks over WhatsApp group disputes. A WhatsApp group admin was shot at in Gurgaon in the National Capital Region (NCR) in 2023 by three people who he had removed from the group.

WhatsApp, a cross-platform messaging and calling app, is used as a social media platform in the Indian subcontinent. There are groups of families, friends, colleagues and political and social outfits as well. WhatsApp admins from among the members have the power to add and remove members in a particular group.

In the Peshawar case, a first information report (FIR) has been registered on a complaint by the victim's brother, Humayun. A police probe is going on, according to Dialogue Pakistan, a Pakistani news media outlet.

The complainant stated how his brother, Mushtaq, was the admin of a WhatsApp group and had an argument with Ashfaq over his removal from the group.

Humayun, who was an eyewitness to the argument, said that they were on their way to Ashfaq's residence to settle the issue, but he opened fire on them, according to a report by Tribal News Network, a Peshawar-based news agency.

The two brothers tried to escape and hid at a petrol pump but Ashfaq followed them inside and shot and killed Mushtaq on the spot, according to .

The police have now handed over the victim's body to his family after a postmortem examination.

No arrests have been confirmed by police so far.
ONLINE OUTRAGE ON KILLING OF WHATSAPP GROUP ADMIN

The case has also sparked an online outrage. People have shown concerns over increasing crime in Peshawar.

"Pakistan: A man was shot dead in Peshawar after removing someone from a #WhatsApp group. The suspect, enraged over the removal, allegedly opened fire, killing Mushtaq on the spot. Police have registered a case, but no arrest has been confirmed," shared Ghulam Abbas Shah, a journalist on X.

"A man created a WhatsApp group and later removed one of its members. The removed member went home, grabbed his gun, and killed the group admin," wrote journalist Arshad Yousafzai on X.

How unsafe Pakistan has become. My heart goes out hearing such evil stories :(

A couple of years ago a man killed a teen in India over social media post. There are lunatics everywhere, becoming upset of social media groups or posts.

I hate wattasp groups and remove myself from them immediatley, there are better things to do with your time than sharing silly memes and seeing daily selfies of others.

This is why I didn't bold that part. I wanted to see who actually reads the entire article. :genius :inti

Guys any news why this said person was removed from WhatsApp group in the first place? We need to first find the real reason and then we can do better analysis on this topic. Either way I am amazed just how cost of life has no meaning in Pakistan. So so sad to read these kind of incidents. Here in UK we cant even explain these things to people.

Lol... "How unsafe is Pakistan" 🤦‍♂️

Did the eyewitness Humayun confirm what kind of gun Ashfaq was using at the petrol pump to kill Mushtaq? I'm just trying to gather as much information as I can to understand this issue better.

I suppose that region needs a lot more mental health clinics to provide better mental health welfare and awareness. Seriously deprived region in this aspect.

Is primary education accessible to all in KPK??
Mental health welfare and awareness wont do anything to illiterate people, they need to make it necessary to provide education to all atleast till 10th standard free of cost.Only literate people can be taught about mental health.

Poor mental health, false sense of 'masculinity', lack of education and access to guns.

It's a toxic combo.

Why not? This incident is a depiction of the state of KPK. Its a reflection of a bigger issue at play. I would humbly suggest that this discourse is actually encouraged.
I doubt this is unique to KPK. See this garbage behavior in successful multinational MNC's in Silicon valley over trivial issues. Not with a firearm, but similarly causing disproportionate damage

Still, i dont see why KPK cannot be criticised just because its ruled by a particular political party?

KPK has a massive terrorism issue, poor political scene, lack of civic responsibility (they dont pay electricity/gas/water bills with punjab footing the bill for them)

Sure, There are other things you can throw at KPK and lot them would stick

What do you mean it has nothing to do with the region? This didn’t happen in Bel Air. It happened in Peshawar. There are always concerns about the way people conduct themselves in this area. Why is Peshawar/KPK deemed a no go zone area from the outside?

again this has nothing to do with the region.

Lunatics are in every province.

KPK is a no go due to Taliban, this is not a taliban case.

So there is a serious problem in the region isn’t there? Man getting killed because he removed another man from a WhatsApp group….in Peshawar…

It really should be. What’s the point of continuously brushing the issues of this region under the carpet? Why not deal with the issue head on for once?

What has this got to do with cricket and Rizwan?
It has nothing to do with Rizwan,

Let’s say there are posters here who hate Rizwan, at the same time they love players like Younis Khan, Umar Gul, Shahid Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and even Muhammad Harris to quite an extent. When have the Rizwan haters hated him for where he comes from?

What is the bigger issue at play?

The bigger issue at play is KPK being a problematic province:

Its a hot bed of terrorism, some of the tribals abet and facilitate indian sponsored terrorists from Afghanistan. They live in the stone ages still mentality wise.

They lack civic sense and civic responsibility. KPK has highest default rate of not paying utility bills which results in other provinces aka Punjab footing the bill for them.

Politically they vote on ethnic lines, and their political parties do zero development, are extremely incompetent and are fully corrupt.

Some of that is true, KPK has always had a tribal mentality, but that has been an issue since long before Pakistan's inception. From what I understood, Pakistan gave them semi-autonomous status in order to keep the peace. If you are from Sindh you might say they are medieval, but they might counter that Sindhis or Punjabis lean towards Hindu culture. We had one poster Farhan the Man claiming Sindhis were shedding Islam and he was extolling Hindu culture.

I think corruption is as bad in other provinces, and you could argue law and order worse. Having their own laws is a problem, not sure if that is still how they operate there. No country should put up with terrorism inside their own borders.
