So reading about this - it seems like the FAA are asking international airlines to eliminate the usage of plastic cutlery on international flights to Pakistan. As part of a wider green sustainability initiative.

Most airlines have not objected and seem ready to comply but China Southern have reportedly raised some objections. More to follow!

Not sure what the objection is? Is it a terrorist threat if we use other type of cutlery?

Good move. The planet requires systemic, wholesale changes to how we use plastic. Big shifts will only happen top down as government regulations and corporate policies can change the behavior of millions of people at once. Changes at the individual level may take longer to cascade through and may be too little too late.

Imagine if individuals were given a choice to either go with plastic (default choice due to lower cost) or ask for steel cutlery. How many people do you think would have actively chosen the non-default option? Now think of how many millions of plastic cutlery will not be used because a government agency has banned it. Top down.

I think it is for environmental reason. Plastic is not good for environment.

We should replace plastic as much as possible.
