AS PER REPORTS:

Pakistan's Test captain, Shan Masood, is being considered to replace the injured Saim Ayub in the Champions Trophy squad. His selection depends on his performance in the second Test against the West Indies.

Although Masood has played only 9 ODIs with an average of 18, he is seen as a solid candidate to provide stability at the top of the batting order, especially with Abdullah Shafique's recent struggles in white-ball cricket.

I don't know how good would be that decision, Anyway the good news that Fakhar would be back in the side

Why would you select someone in odi based of Test performances? Lol.

Then again Pakistan has no options now. It's either shan or imam and I think shan is being favoured because aqib wants aggressive openers at the top.

Feel for maaz but I don't think any country would send an 18 year old to play an icc event. Sam konstas was an exception in BGT, however that's still BGT and not an icc event.

the famous masood azhar is back
tbh he always performs well in pressure situations as we saw in 2022 t20 wc

Who cares about Pakistan, these constructed win against WI got to the head of selectors. A 35 year player averaging 18 and SR 69.7 will play ODIs in this era astonishing

I don't mind shan opening however his ceiling is 50 and he won't kick off.

But neither options are ideal.

Imam is too slow, Shan is a pretty poor whiteball batter and only has the aggression clause to support him and Abdullah is 100x worse then both lol.

Used to be an Imam fan but given his unwillingness (ability is there) to play modern day cricket, I would prefer Shan over him. Although the best replacement is Muhammad Haris. He's not in form and hasn't been for a while but he is a like for like replacement.

This will be some top notch jhak from PCB.

Player A , averaged 23 with SR 49, played as opener for Pakistan 3 decades ago

Player B, averaged 24 SR 56, played as opener for Pakistan 2 decades ago

Player C, averaged 30 SR 69, played as opener for Pakistan 2 decades ago.

Now there is Shan Masood with same type of record in the era of Phil Salts & Travis Head.

tbf his sample size is small

ig mohammad wasim, taufeeq umar and imran farhat
All

All three mentioned above played less than 30 ODIS any guesses

Water cooler for answering Player A

2x chocolate 🍫 for answering Player B

1x industrial fan for Player C

I would rather have shan leading Pakistan than the guy who lacks education and class. Representation matters a lot.

Haris has the talent but he doesn't seem to have the temperament to play 50-over cricket as a top order batter. Shan and Imam aren't bad choices in ODI cricket. They both have solid techniques and can play long innings.

During Sethi era Shan became VC of our ODI team but Babar benched him.

Shan was being primed for 3 format captaincy but his own performances let him down. Had he performed even slightly he would have been test captain a lot earlier and our captain in other formats too.

But he lost it with his own bad performances.

CUriously checked his ODI record. It looks awful 9 ODIs 18.11 avge 69.65 Strike rate. Any logic behind his backing? Abdulla shafique as bad as he is has slightly better numbers than that. 32.21 avge 81.92 strike rate.

In current form , Shaan is the 2nd best opener in Pakistan , after Saim and in Saim's forced absence , he is the best. He probably not the best player for T20 but looks very good for ODI, he plays with an intend even in tests.

He is a very likeable guy.

Plus he stands out in a room full of more paindu type players so coaches and chairmen etc naturally gravitate towards him.

He has managed to bag himself a county contract with Derbyshire due to links with Mickey Arthur, bagged himself Yorkshire captaincy because of his leadership and ended up playing the random global super league T20 tournament for Hampshire too. All just through networking.

That would be a worst call ever... WHY WE ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT SHAN HERE???

This is crazy. Bring fakhar back. IMam will make a comeback as well so there is no real need nor Shan deserves a shot in ODI team.

That is where PCB poor management comes. Bringing players in ODIs based on test performance.
