LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee has reportedly decided to drop opening batsman Ahmad Shehzad from the proposed three-match T-20I series against West Indies.

According to reports, the committee’s decision was made keeping in mind Shehzad’s deteriorating batting performances.

The selection committee along with head coach Mickey Arthur has finalised the 14-member national team squad for the proposed West Indies series. The committee has proposed Arthur to give all-rounder Aamir Yameen or Muhammad Nawaz a chance in the coming series to observe their performance.

In the recent series against Sri Lanka, Shehzad was benched as he failed to make a mark in the innings despite multiple chances.

The right-hand batsman scored a miserly 27, 22 in the two T20I matches respectively; while his score in the ODI series was 0 and 8, respectively.

Shehzad, who has 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 53 T20Is under his belt has also been released by the Pakistan Super League’s franchise Quetta Gladiators. His fate in the league will be decided in the drafts scheduled to be held on November 12 in Lahore.

In Yasir Arafat's words "Only Ahmed Shehzad can help Ahmed Shehzad"

Right call but won't be surprised if he is picked again in time for the next WC. I am not sure Amin is the answer for our T20 opening problems.

Right decision, he needs to go and work hard on his game. The guy has talent but isn't willing to put in the hard work. Get off social media and put in the hard yards. Selectors should not select him for a minimum of 1-2 years until he shows improvements in his game.

Thought he decided to sit out the forthcoming T20 & ODI series against WI until I read the article in full, the title makes it seem so. Anyway good decision under the circumstances, even though I wanted him in the squad but glad to see management preferring performing players over TTFs.

Good call from the selectors, Shehzad is not up to it in LOIs. We need to find another dynamic, powerhitting opener to partner Fakhar Zaman in T20s.

Umar Amin seems more of a fluent strokemaker suited to ODIs than T20s but he probably deserves this West Indies series to prove himself.

Azhar slots back in when fit...based on his performance in the CT he deserves his spot

Finally. The only format he should be considered in is tests

Sucks big time in LOIs

Good for him, can use this time away from the game

Even in tests there are so many alternatives to shehzad. The guy is only good in domestic cricket and league cricket.

Good decision. Time to continue with Umar Amin. I hope he makes a case for himself to be given a run in the team. Because one failure could result in him being out of the team.

Great decision, have no idea why he has been slugging along since the 2015 WC. I was so hopeful that was the end of him after that but he just keeps on getting selected.

Hopefully this is the end.

He has been abysmal in all formats. It will give him a much needed break to work on his flaws. I hope he is not selected for at least an year.

he never deserved the spot at first place. Inzy and management have very skillfully got ridden of this guy. He should concentrate on t20 leagues around the world just like sohail tanvir.

Smog has saved Shehzad from humiliation.

Looks like Ahmed Shehzad is baduwaa lagi hai, now that the WI series is postponed. :(

Good riddance.

Nice decision by PCB/Selectors.

Ahmed 'more talented than Tendulkar' Shehzad* :)) :yk

*Maybe in taking selfies.

A very strong wake up call for Shehzad to reclaim his lost form that he had way back in the day, he's just atrocious to watch now and doesn't offer us anything. Ever since he got hit on the head by Corey Anderson, he just isn't the same player anymore. He's got time to reinvent himself but he's going to have to do it quickly otherwise there's more deserving players ready to take his place.

Even the weather is siding with Shehzad.

Good.

He shouldn't even be considering to play in this format.

I think the head injury is a convenient excuse for Shehzad fans, he scored a couple of good knocks in the World Cup against the minnows, but struggled against the big sides. He scored 40 of 70 against India in the group match. Point is any half decent side and Shehzad looks like a walking wicket.

He had a good run in the PSL but his technique isn't just suited for International cricket. He needs to rediscover himself otherwise he will always struggle like this.

If this guy hasn't improved in 8 years of international cricket, then he never will. He and Akmal should NEVER play for Pakistan again in any format. Give some of the young guys a chance. All the new players have performed and they need to be backed up.

No more shehzad, akmals, maqsood, shan masood, fawad alam, sami or other useless players.

This is the proper way to drop dead weight. Give them a proper chance to prove their worth and then drop them if they fail. Not only does this ensure that the player and his fans/lobby will not cry foul, it eliminates the risk of mistaking a slow-starting potential star for a failure.

good decision taken by pcb. let him play a full domestic season and come back with improved batsman

It's depressing to see him bat since WC 2015. At one time he had a strike rate of 140 and average of 35 in domestic t20s. Even back in 2013 he was hitting big ones in South Africa.
Where the hell are his vivacious flicks, sixes over extra cover.

He has a methodical way now in domestics, where he just defends the ball against the better bowlers and hits the second tier bowlers. Same thing with Umar Akmal, instead of fixing their shortcomings they are trying to hide it.
As long as they keep doing it, I don't see either going to make it big in International stage.
