BCCI's blunder helping pakistan big time. I really doubt poms frontline players would've been available for pak series had that 5th test snub not happened. Will be great for our revival of international cricket. Imagine Bairstow, Roy, Morgan, Moeen and Buttler playing in front of our crowd.

Say thanks to BCCI .

Will they be willing to travel to Pakistan is another question?

Why wont they? Hales, Malan, Moeen, Rashid, Jordan, Roy have already played in Pak. Think Morgan and Co. won't hesitate to get there because Intl duty is more important for them in contrast of a so called powerful board which has the audacity to prefer a mickey mouse league over intl cricket.

First kpl, now this

BCCI :))) :)))

Heard one of the IPL franchise complained to the BCCI as well coz few of the players pulled out jus a few days before the tourney. Think BCCI messed this up big time.

ECB are expecting the World Cup squad to travel to Pakistan rather than play in the IPL knock-out stages.

Watch this space.

Wait, so the England players in Dubai right now will leave the IPL for the Pakistan tour?

Does that include Eoin Morgan, we all know how he feels about touring countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Good news. Would love to watch this series with full strength England side available during IPL vs Pakistan. Internationals > Pyjama Leagues. :inti

Expect the BCCI to start blackballing the players that won't be turning up to the IPL, they'll send them "warnings" to not go to Pakistan. The BCCI is essentially a mafia.

Well the ECB wants their World Cup squad players to go to Pakistan rather than continue playing at the IPL play-offs. However of course no player can be forced to tour any country and that has always been the case.

If this is true, what will be the future of Eng players in the IPL? Will they get contracts in the future?

We are not talking about 1 or 2 players but 16 of them totaling millions of $$$. Add to that the payments that the ECB gets from the IPL.

You are missing the behind-the-scenes emotions here.

The ECB is incandescent with rage against the BCCI and is determined not to just roll over. I think they will roll over, but they are privately talking the talk at the moment.

The IPL players who play for the England Test team - notably Bairstow, Malan and Woakes are reportedly furious with the BCCI for robbing them of the end of the Test series and would rather have less money than take money from them.

The BCCI is assuming that the English will just roll over. And at this stage the players are showing more guts than the officials.

I think if the BCCI had immediately reimbursed the ECB, Lancashire County Cricket Club and the people who had paid for hotels, travel and time off work the US$45 million that their conspiracy to withdraw actually cost, they could have bought their way out of it.

But the BCCI seems determined to deal only with the ECB, which leaves at least 100,000 people adversely affected by their conspiracy, and the anger is getting bigger rather than smaller,

It’s just rank bad strategy by the BCCI.

They only have one playbook.

Rely upon the foreign Board agreeing to anything in return for hosting future India tours, and rely upon any player being able to be bought with IPL money.

But that isn’t working with an independently wealthy Big Three board and independently wealthy foreign players from a richer country.

100,000 fans took time off work to attend, and many of then travelled long distances and paid for travel and hotels. Many of them were actually India supporters!

Around 1,000 local small business people relied upon sales at anything from bars to hot dog stands outside the ground. They lost their three main earning days of the year.

Perhaps most adversely for the BCCI, key sponsors and corporations paid millions of pounds for their people to attend corporate hospitality and are now enraged, including most of northern England’s major law companies.

The BCCI will find that staging an extra match next summer will go 0% of the way to compensating those people and corporate hospitality purchasers.

Very clever from ECB.

Whether this news is true or not, or whether the key players would come to Pakistan, is a totally different debate….. what ECB has done is to try to hit BCCI where it will hit the most, by giving an opportunity to Pakistan to host them. This is good strategy…. Bcci would definitely attempt some heavy handed tactics but there is a high likelihood that ecb may get them to accept some demands in return for not sending key players to Pakistan.

Few months ago Ashely Giles said " all England players are not allowed to play in reschedule IPL . But we know what is happening now So hold on. We are here talking about BCCI not about PCB .

If it was indeed ECB that refused to agree on the delayed start of the 5th test then the direction for non-participation of some of the England players could very well be coming from the ECB board and could have serious future financial implications for both the board and its IPL players. I have a feeling that PCB is still regretting its fateful decision from more than a decade ago, of preventing the selected Pak players from participating in IPL. It has not only prevented the PCB coffers from filling up but also robbed the fans from some very exciting cricket.

As per current situation English players will be playing initial matches in IPL but will leave by time pakistan matches start.
I don't think anyone can complain because international cricket takes precedence.

That's great, and a win-win for everybody, however, on the complaining part, it depends who you ask.

Overseas players so far have opted out of IPL
Ben Stokes (RR) - (not playing ANY cricket)
Jos Buttler (RR) - Revenge
Jonny Bairstow (SRH) - Revenge
David Malan (PBKS) : Revenge
Chris Woakes (DC) : Revenge
Liam Livingstone (RR): Opted out of phase 1 , may play phase 2
Andrew Tye (RR): Opted out of Phase 2
Kane Richardson (RCB): Opted out of Phase 2 as well as Aus tour of WI & Bang.
Pat Cummins (KKR): Expecting child.
Jhye Richardson (PBKS): Opted out of Phase 2
Riley Meredith (PBKS): Opted out of Phase 2
Finn Allen (RCB): Opted out of Phase 2
Adam Zampa (RCB)
Daniel Sams (RCB):
Josh Philippe (RCB):
Josh Hazlewood (CSK):

In my opinion prioritising internationals over any league should always be the case.

However there are a few issues here

1 Players who are not selected for the 15 (or whatever is ECB’s travelling team) may be given a choice.

2. Players selected for the 15 but who don’t want to travel to Pakistan, will probably then just stay at home/ play domestic.

3. Players in the 15 who could have gone to the IPL but instead will now go ahead and play in Pakistan.

It is # 1 and 3 which are decisive.

Personally I’d rather watch an international game than any league. But your mileage may vary.

Must Say, England play Pakistan heck of a lot.

And if I may add to the above:

Whatever happens the next few weeks, nothing of significance is going to happen in the coming months and years.

Next year these same boards will be lovey dovey, the same England players not coming now will be lining up to get an IPL gig, the same IPL teams that are angry with these players will be eagerly chasing these same players.

We will hears statements such as:

(The Boards): The two nations have a unique and cordial history, and we are pleased to announce…

(The players who don’t come this time): It’s an honour and privilege to be playing in the IPL, in the company of world class players, so much to learn. I would not like to comment on what happened previously and am looking forward to a wonderful season.

(The IPL teams allegedly furious at the moment): X is a wonderful player and we are so pleased to have him with us. We have moved on from what happened previously and are looking forward to a wonderful season.

Remember Monkeygate? Heck, remember the last Indian tour of Australia and the numerous arguments? Barely? Vividly? Do they matter now?

Meanwhile fans debate, give and get all sorts of heartburn. They rejoice in the rise/ fall/ continuation of the IPL, speak of revenge/ humiliation / victory. Down with the IPL! Long liveIPL!

It’s good to have passion. It’s also good to understand that the same drama has happened before, is happening now and will happen in the future. The business of sports continues, and ever since Packer changed the world of cricket, it has always been about the money. The businessmen running the sport will make sure that some stability emerges. And that’s not all what it should be but it’s not all a bad thing. As a fan you can choose to take any point of view, but for me, I’ve long gotten tired of these dramas which are all sound and fury but in the end signify nothing. Except, I’m guessing for some, the illusory satisfaction of having scored highly contested internet points over some individuals you’ve never met.

You better hope that’s the case

What’s the big deal? International cricket always takes preference over franchise cricket, it’s in the player’s contracts.

Indians getting salty just because it’s a Pakistan tour need to get their heads checked.

Recently this hasn’t been the case as New Zealand and South Africa’s IPL players were disrespectful towards Pakistan and Bangladesh first teams.

ECB has always been very straightforward with this clause since quite a while. This is nothing out of the ordinary.

Didn’t see this hue and cry when pretty much every Australian player pulled out of the ENTIRE second leg of IPL. This has become news because it’s a Pakistan tour.

I'm pretty sure this is not the first time England players are gonna miss the latter part of IPL for international duty.

Don't get the mithai distribution that's going on here.

Might help international cricket in future if ECB stands up; (they also have Hundred tournamant)
Its the Australian administration who has become ***** cats of BCCI -- needs to step up and learn from ECB

Yeh but going to Pakistan (allegedly) instead is adding masala to proceedings.

Fantastic stuff by ECB - international cricket should always take precedence. No need to get salty over it. We should all appreciate this step.

David warner , Steve smith ,Maxwell,Stonis, Hazelwood . these are most important players for Australia in WT20 WC who are playing in IPL so don't know why you add every Australian Players pulled out .

Do Australia have any international commitments at the same time?

Erm, no, a few months ago Ashley Giles said England players would not miss international duty to play in the IPL which appears from this to be completely true.

Every player was an exaggeration, but aren’t Australian players the most to have pulled out of the IPL so far? I remember Hazlewood pulling out quite recently, and also Marsh aswell. Starc already doesn’t want anything to do with IPL.

And these lads have been pulling out without any international cricket around for them.

Hazelwood is currently in UAE

Yup ,i still remembered that thread , you can go there and read the entire discussion .

Tag me in that discussion. Looks like I am having the last laugh here

I'm not sure how long the ECB rage will last and what will happen in a months time but what a blunder by our incompetent and bullying organisation. England has produced some of the leading LO cricketers of the last 6 years and for most of them to be missing from the IPL, supposedly to PREMIER league of T20 leagues is a sad, sad after effect of an entitled and arrogant group of administrators and players on India's side.

If the BCCI truly cared about the health of their players AND cricket, they could easily have announced this would simply be a postponement of the series, to be completed at a later date. Instead, the latest news just published on cricinfo is that the BCCI is happy to play the test at a later date...IF it is not a continuation of the series...huh?? :snothappy

What exactly are they trying to pull here? Us Indian fans should be furious.

Cricketjoshilla and you were saying nothing like this was happening as only 3 players backed out

And how does that make any difference if they're going to Pakistan or Venezuela?

England players have almost always picked int'l duty over IPL riches (as they should). Don't know where the "oh they snubbed muh big bad evil BCCI" part comes into the play when it's pretty clear that they're still going to play a major chunk of the tournament.

Indian sources are making it a bigger deal than it actually is. England has always had a particular and consistent stance on this issue, not something they are doing for the first time.

"Indian sources" would make a big deal for a burnt toast in Bihar if it somehow involves the P word.

So much for revenge and stuff. Rajasthan royals confirmed that liam Livingstone is in UAE and going to play. Even though bairstow, malan and woakes have said they are taking break to rest, still it's made out as revenge.
International players leaving IPL midway for international commitments has been happening from long time and natural. That is reason IPL teams have contingency plans and bid for reserves.

Coping mechanism

You've literally linked to an article that backs up my point. There isn't a single quote in there of Giles saying players wouldn't be allowed to play in the rescheduled IPL. He says players rested for international cricket wouldn't then be allowed to go play in the IPL during that rest period.

Giles while admitted that few players might be rested during that phase, he asserted that the "intention of giving guys a break wouldn't be for them to go and play cricket elsewhere."
Read full article for more details .

Yes, exactly what I said: players rested from international cricket won't then be allowed to go play in the IPL during that rest period.

Nowhere does he make a blanket statement that England players won't be allowed to play in the IPL, he's just said players who would be in the squad will either be expected to be either playing for England or resting when there are international fixtures (to paraphrase) which appears to be exactly what's happening.

Your comprehension is failing you. Once again, nowhere has Giles made a blanket statement saying England players won't be available for the IPL. He's said players who are being rested for international cricket (which I doubt anyway will be given it's just before the T20 WC) will actually be expected to rest during that period.
Are you crazy?
England players will not be released to play in the rescheduled tournament, says Ashley Giles. What does this mean ?

That is a misleading headline which isn't actually a quote from Giles. If you read the article you'll find he hasn't said that anywhere.

Spot on!
The business will continue as usual. People are forgetting that these are only remaining matches of IPL. A situation which won't happen every year.
BCCI just want to complete remaining matches to earn money they hoped from IPL21. Even though the profit will be less than what they thought, it'll be profitable event.

From next season everything will go as usual. Some players will play and some will miss/opt out. The show will go on.

But funny to see some posters reacting like their board has won 100 million dollar lawsuit. Lol

I am happy if English players will be leaving for international duties during play-offs.
This will debunk theory of both anti-IPL and pro-IPL posters.
Anti ones can't complain that IPL/BCCI forces players to miss international duties.
The pro ones can't chest thump that international players will always skip national matches for IPL.

Fair points. I think BCCI needs to add some democratic, tactful handling and mutual respect chapters in their play book as forcing their way in and out of everything is not the most responsible use of their position.

What you say is right. The ECB and the players are fully in the right to be miffed. But if the ECB goes through with this, the future participation of Eng players could be in jeopardy.

Not just the current players with contracts but future players who want to play in the IPL. Hope this does not turn into Pakistan 2.0.

But as you say, this is all behind the scenes and the ECB will roll over.

I don't think BCCI can take on another key board after ignoring PCB completely. And Eng produces probably world's best T20 players after WI so don't think they would like to lose on quality too. SA and SL are on a steady decline. Aussies too have very less quality players as we have seen them being beaten by BD team comprehensively.

Also inaugural The Hundred has also been successful for ECB worldwide. BCCI will be a fool to take on ECB on current ground. They need to bury their bullying mentality otherwise it could also be start of their decline as power.

I feel the success of The Hundred has changed ECB a lot. They now believe they have the capacity to produce money and not get played around like fools by the BCCI. This is good for the cricket world.

ECB & BCCI have managed to fool us all.

I have a feeling that the 5th test was never meant to happen. Hence Oval hosted the 4th test and not the 5th.

Wait, who said The Hundred was a success? The ECB were handing out free tickets for every game just to fill the stadiums and even then they weren’t at full capacity.

It could also have been to bill Anderson’s last game at Old Trafford (in England basically)

Yes, more successful leagues the better for cricketers, fans and the boards. Should be welcomed.

But the success of the other leagues should also be reflected in the player salaries. If not then they will continue to pick the best paying job. Sure there will be a couple here and there that will not. But a good majority of them will.

No idea what The Hundred pays out in salaries, but it will have to match or at least come close to what the IPL offers in the long run. The ECB should build on this initial success to make this a bigger league financially as well.

Wait, who said The Hundred was a success? The ECB were handing out free tickets for every game just to fill the stadiums and even then they weren’t at full capacity.

ECB need to get their marketing priorities right. The way they are pushing the women’s game to be on Par with the men’s game will drive out a lot of fans regardless of how they think it will expand the game.

Interesting take. Some part of me thinks you are right.

This report may be true, but BCCI critics need to understand that its power increases every year. Professional cricket is a business, and in business money talks and ** walks.

To be honest it depends if the England players that are or will miss the IPL, want to make the trip to Pakistan. They can't be forced in the end.

I think they have confirmed availability beforehand.
