And if I may add to the above:
Whatever happens the next few weeks, nothing of significance is going to happen in the coming months and years.
Next year these same boards will be lovey dovey, the same England players not coming now will be lining up to get an IPL gig, the same IPL teams that are angry with these players will be eagerly chasing these same players.
We will hears statements such as:
(The Boards): The two nations have a unique and cordial history, and we are pleased to announce…
(The players who don’t come this time): It’s an honour and privilege to be playing in the IPL, in the company of world class players, so much to learn. I would not like to comment on what happened previously and am looking forward to a wonderful season.
(The IPL teams allegedly furious at the moment): X is a wonderful player and we are so pleased to have him with us. We have moved on from what happened previously and are looking forward to a wonderful season.
Remember Monkeygate? Heck, remember the last Indian tour of Australia and the numerous arguments? Barely? Vividly? Do they matter now?
Meanwhile fans debate, give and get all sorts of heartburn. They rejoice in the rise/ fall/ continuation of the IPL, speak of revenge/ humiliation / victory. Down with the IPL! Long liveIPL!
It’s good to have passion. It’s also good to understand that the same drama has happened before, is happening now and will happen in the future. The business of sports continues, and ever since Packer changed the world of cricket, it has always been about the money. The businessmen running the sport will make sure that some stability emerges. And that’s not all what it should be but it’s not all a bad thing. As a fan you can choose to take any point of view, but for me, I’ve long gotten tired of these dramas which are all sound and fury but in the end signify nothing. Except, I’m guessing for some, the illusory satisfaction of having scored highly contested internet points over some individuals you’ve never met.
