I have not liked Barbar's captaincy yet, but anyone would be a step up from Azhar. Heck we would fare better without a captain than have Azhar as captain.

It feels like Pakistan have no choice but to take a gamble on Babar and hope he learns on the job. He is the only player that is a confirmed selection in all formats along with Shaheen. He doesn't seem like someone who would let the added responsibility affect his batting. And frankly. there is no viable leadership option aside from maybe Shan in Tests and Rizwan and Shadab, later down the line.

It's a big job to captain this Pakistan side! There's a big hole in the batting, raw bowlers and a long tail.

NZ should destroy us and Babar will be under pressure very quickly.

I believe Azhar Ali after scoring that match saving 141* in the 3rd test deserves 1 more series to see if he has taken batting and captaincy seriously.

Since it’s an away tour and Babar being young would let him grow as LOI captain first before giving him tests. Ppl saw how bad he was captaining in the LOIs so far and that gave Sarfraz a match even to play as pseudo captain to help Babar.

He is totally underused.if we take the first test where he played in England and made the vital contribution and impetus to the first innings with his 45 which helped Pakistan put a total of 329 a match winning 1st innings total. He bowled only 3 overs in the first inns got 2 wickets, bowled 8 overs in the second innings.

It was a might weapon to have two different leg spinners to face for the Englishmen, which gone begging in the end.

Not just Azhar Ali , the entire management is to blame for losing the 1st test. No question asked why he was underused and not fitting answer given.

All being said , I would let Azhar be the captain for 1 more year and let him open the inns where he tasted the most success in his career as a batsman.

My line up for the NZL tour would be

If this is the case, I just hope for once that the fans are patient. Would love to see him being given a nice long run where failures are learned from but not held against babar. Could really go the Greame smith route if we're patient.

Azhar was never captaincy material. Although PCB really did not have a choice at the time.

Haider should concentrate and play limited overs for pakistan and gain experience in the shaheens squad or the doesmtic scene.i think abdullah shafique,saud Shakeel should be given a chance ahead of him as they more suited to tests.

As for haris hes not fit enough I wouldnt have him in the test side.

I stil think saud abdullah are more suited to tests Haider should concentrate on odis and t20s and shaheens were the conditions will be same but a weaker oppsition and he can learn to play on them wickets

He needs more time. A couple of seasons before he should be drafted in. Abdullah is much ahead as a test batsman and even he should be playing atleast one more season. Both should be playing the A games in NZ though, that will tell a lot where they stand.

Haider will struggle against the moving ball and he is not good against the short stuff as well. A short ball barrage and he is going to get out sooner rather than later.

Huge reservations with this and I am almost certain this will backfire . . and the worst thing to happen would be if it starts to negatively impact Babar's batting when the pressure amps up which it will sooner rather than later (as it did on Azhar and Sarfaraz) . .

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has opposed Azhar Ali’s removal from Test captaincy, saying the Lahore-born cricketer would give his 100 per cent in the upcoming matches.

Pakistan lost the first Test against England in Manchester despite being in a winning position and Azhar’s captaincy really came under fire from all quarters. According to reports, he is likely to be replaced by brilliant batsman Babar Azam as the new Test captain.

Shoaib said Azhar Ali should not be removed from the role after one bad game.

“I agree that Azhar Ali made a mistake in the second innings of the first Test against England, while fielding, for which he was rightly criticised. But to remove him from captaincy based on just that match would be unfair,” said Shoaib in his comments on a private tv channel. “I am sure he will give his 100 per cent in the upcoming matches.

“It is disappointing to see that it’s always the players who suffer in such a scenario while the management stays the same,” said Shoaib who is known to be a blunt critic of the PCB. “Babar is evolving as a captain. If Babar believes that he can lead the side in all three formats without jeopardising his batting form, then he should be made the captain, otherwise it is a gamble.”

I don't personally like Azhar as a captain. But he shouldn't be sacked this soon. Will induce further instability in the team. Babar is too soft to keep team in order, doesn't seem like a person who can motivate the team like Stokes does or even Sammy used to do. His tactics are novice.

If they have to remove a captain then the next captain should be the one who is a permanent fixture in the team, which leaves Babar and Asad Shafiq(sadly). Haris would be a good option as a test captain though.

It would be too much burden for babar this early.

Azhar needs to call it a day, he just about kept his place in the test team with that hundred
