According to media reports, Wasim Khan is considering whether to renew his contract which comes up for renewal in February 2022 and has asked for time before committing to another tenure. Whilst Ehsan Mani would like Wasim to commit to another three-year deal, Wasim is said to be considering all options and will provide an answer in February 2021.

Its also been reported that Wasim has send his family back to Birmingham due to the incessant derogatory and very personal attacks launched by a vocal minority on him although he is happy with the support from a large group people that he has received so far, and he is interested in seeing the job through in terms of the 5-year strategic plan, bidding for ICC events and restoration of international tours to Pakistan.

Additionally, Wasim Khan's decision to stay or not stay may also be based upon Ehsan Mani's possible decision to not renew his contract as Chairman PCB. Some reports suggest that Wasim Akram may get Mani's job which could well influence Wasim Khan's decision to stay on.

Hmm, I wonder if this proves the media reports on WK being unhappy with WA's increasing powers behind the scenes to be true?

He must stay because he is clearly hurting those who want to see Pakistan remain in ruins

It would be a terrible decision to make Wasim Akram chairman.... sounds ludicrous. Feeling and hoping this is an unsubstantiated rumour

I would want him to stay and get rid of Wasim Akram instead as Wasim Khan will prove to be more worthy in the long-term.

He said he needs time to make changes. We may as well give him the time because I have no clue who we would replace him with if we let him go.

Apart from Misbah blunder, he has done decent job. So, I think he should stay.

I don't think Wasim Akram will replace Mani.

WK needs to stay. Do we really want a return to Ijaz "I heard talk in bookie circles" Butt, Intikhab Alam, Wasim Bari, Iqbal Qasim, Haroon Rasheed and Subhan Ahmed to make their triumphant return ?

Sad that his family have had to return to the UK due to abuse from some quarters. This could have an impact on whether he continues in the role.

I know he wants to continue, but with his family not there in Pakistan with him, it might be tough to carry on in the role.

Amazing how people like Najam Sethi are lauded, while someone who's done a decent job in a short time is abused left, right and centre.

Pakistan cricket deserves to rot with the kind of mindset this country's public has.

Pakistan needs Wasim Khan.

He has done a lot of great work. Revamped Pakistan's domestic system making it actually interesting to follow live. Also got us quality broadcasting via YT.

Need at the least another 3 years from him.

Poor guy. In my opinion, one of the most influential, impactful people in Pakistan over these last two years.

It's clear his family wants him to move on. It will be very hard for the PCB to convince him to carry on in the role unless they give him some concessions ie increased visits to the UK, maybe permission to operate mostly from the UK where he can supervise things in the PCB and visit Pakistan on and off. He also is pretty uneasy about staying in the PCB without Ehsan Mani hanging around

Saj please relay this message at the behest of the entire PP, that we really appreciate what he has done for cricket in this country, and that it is almost imperative that he stays.
Just a few more years of him at the helm will change the complexion of our cricket completely.

I know it may be tough for him, but this sacrifice will bring great dividends to our cricket, and he is one of the very few capable of it.

I am sure this encouragement will add up in the reasons for him to say.

Hope he stays, he has provided the PCB with much needed changes with the revamp of PCB internal structure and domestic structure. His thought process of having one person being a selector and coach is a poor one but that idea will mercifully come to an end very shortly. Overall, he has done a very good job.

I am almost certain that WK won't renew his contract and for that he has sent his family back. Those of us who have shifted whole family to another country (both as a kid & dad), actually know how difficult it is for kids to adjust into a new country - he has given his family one year time to settle in UK again; another 3 years term means he'll have to pull them back in PAK again.

I don't think he has sent his family back for the abuse from few idiots, barking around. Rather, PAK's next election is in two years time from his next term - if Imran's party doesn't come back on power, he has ABSOLUTELY no chance of holding on to that job, in-fact if he doesn't resign by himself, one of the first tasks that next Govt. will take on first week in office is to sack WK.... if it's PMLN Govt., most likely he'll be stranded in PAK with legal battles. And, guy has made so many enemies around PAK cricket circle that, even under PTI Govt., he might need protections - don't think there is one single former player who has one good line for him, may be bar Misbah & WY, for a reason.

High profile jobs are scares - it's not about how good or qualified you are, but there has to be a vacancy first. He has given himself a year head start to find a suitable job in UK and he'll complete his tenure with PCB, then leave or may take few months sabbatical or a short term job, to see who is next PM in PAK ... may be then he can come back with a new 3-4 years contract, but it's too risky now to commit into a job that is too dependent on other factors - like PAK's Assembly Election.

And yet the PCB humour these people who openly abuse Wasim. There accreditation should be cancelled and made persona non grata in all PCB events.

Let them sit in their Youtube channels.

Love your overwrought posts, but PML N is done and dusted, and PPP is no longer a central party in in Pakistan politics.
The spate of events in the last month or so have showcased that IK is in for the long haul.
He is going to stay in power as long as life allows him, so there shouldn't be any danger for Wasim in that department.

Your wish of getting cronies like Sethi wont be answered.
Wasim is here to stay, and it doesnt matter how loud you blow your propaganda horn.

No, he is not here to stay. You are just being your usual delusional self.

He will leave soon and his lasting legacy would be making Misbah head coach and selector in the most unprofessional manner.

He called the dual role a much needed innovation but then trashed the innovation after 1 year and only 1 person at the helm, all because he didn’t have the courage to sack Misbah as coach or didn’t have the courage to confront the person (the people) that he took orders from.

Either way, he didn’t come out it with any glory. The way PCB handed the Mickey succession plan was nothing short of a circus show and Wasim “I left England to help Pakistan” Khan was at the centre of it.

I suppose we shouldn’t innovate at all, for fear of failure. The lightbulb, iPhone, even Kerry Packer’s cricket - why do anything different?

Some innovations work, some don’t. It takes guts, character, and intelligence to realize when it doesn’t and correct it effective immediately.

As usual, your post is completely devoid of logic and has a vengeful focus to demean Wasim Khan in any way possible. I must insist you apply for CEO at the PCB as you have a lot of insight and “fresh” direction to bring to the role.

It would be nice to have a seasoned thinker for once whose every idea sticks immediately.

He has brought significant changes. Removing those rotten oldies who were entitled for a PCB job forever itself is a great achievement..

My experience has shown that those who oppose change generally dislike change as it doesnt benefit them.

Thank God for Wasim.

The structural changes he has made for domestic cricket, the media deals he has championed; domestic as well as the international ones which are now area based (with many of them still not announced), the successful campaigning he is doing behind the scenes with foreign boards to convince them to tour, the dross he has gotten rid off are all unprecedented and landmark achievements for our cricket.

Even a general look at how active the pakistan cricket youtube channel is compared to how it was 2 years ago under your beloved Sethi can give a little insight into how things have changed under him

But I am sure you will provide a lopsided counter-narrative to each one of those to dispel them and cast your gloom spell.

The misbah appointment sticks out like a sore thumb, I admit, but there were reasons for it which were probably beyond his control. It is also only a short term problem and will fizzle out when seen in light of his aforementioned achievements.
But then again, you will keep on bleating about that, and will fail to give a guy any margin, because of the inherent dishonesty that you hold inside.

Ok, I'll bite.

Once again yet another post where facts and ground realities take a back seat to your adorably ridiculous views. But hey, at least you're consistent in how warped your posts tend to be.

Now, with regards to Wasim, one of the clearest examples of progress has been the prominence of the domestic game in the current set up. In previous years, few people bothered about domestic competitions, where Karachi Whites vs Peshawar Upholstery Ltd. In the QEA trophy didn't exactly capture the imagination, did it? The marketing, the promotion and the presentation of the National t20 cup this year attracted droves of people this year, and there is a renewed sense of interest in the domestic game.

PCB's media team has now been very creative in terms of putting regular features on the PCB YouTube channel, which furthers interest and acts as an extra revenue stream. Before Wasim, I'm not sure what the media team did exactly.

He's helped close deals with PTV and Supersport to add to PCB's coffers, which will allow for reinvestment into Pakistan cricket.

He's put in structures that has allowed more recent former internationals to actually contribute to the domestic game. As a result we are (finally) seeing younger coaches like Mohammad Wasim, Faisal Iqbal, Shahid Anwar, Mohammad Yousuf, Mohammad Zahid and Abdur Razzaq showcase their coaching abilities and groom the next set of potential internationals.

He, through his networking skills has made it so that both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka did full tours of Pakistan. Also, unlike you're idol Najam Sethi, he didn't sanction extra payments for those players to come. They cane because of tough board to board negotiating.

He's finally created a strong relationship with the ECB and the CSA such that it's possible we'll see SENA countries visit Pakistan in more than a decade. That hasn't happened because a below par WI and the World XI mercenaries visited for blink and you miss it series at Sethi's time. It's happened because of Wasim's relationship with the ECB top brass.

He's managed the process of hosting the entire PSL in Pakistan. Logistically no mean feat.

I could go on and on.

If his family is back in the UK, I don't see him staying on. Very unfortunate.

Knew it from the start that this won't last long especially ripping out a young family from a stable place like England who haven't really been to Pakistan as such before and then shifting there for a few years.

This is always a situation that backfires more times than none and really I don't see or expect Wasim to stay back any longer than his tenure or now he may actually give it up before it's even over.

As far as the family thing is concerned, i think the PCB might have to offer many different options i.e. payment of his salary in UK rather than PKR, permission for him to operate out of the UK and to monitor things remotely and coming to Pakistan when needed and all the employees in the board report to him daily.

In the pandemic a lot of companies are operating this way so i wonder why can't the PCB offer these concessions to him.

Considering what? He picked Misbah, so I don't understand the posters here who want Misbah to get fired, but not Wasim Khan. Wasim Khan is a puppet, the sooner he goes the better.

Don't give him respect by offering him a new contract. This is ridiculous.

Feel bad for his family though. A typical desi behaviour where locals are targeting his family and giving them hard time.

You cant see past a wall, can you?
There are things he has done which are much bigger in their wider implications and impact on our cricketing culture, when compared to his appointment of misbah as coach and selector.

No, the trouble is with you. Who can't see what I am trying to show you. Picking on me again and again and blindly supporting Pakistan.

What exactly is it that you’re trying to show?

He is just another puppet, who has done a terrible job by firing Mickey and then giving the dual role to Misbah. Just this reason alone is good enough to fire him. As for the changes in our domestic system, It was all Imran Khan. Which begs the question who is running what? I think Wasim Khan was smart enough to never hire Misbah for any kind of position. Wasim does what Ehsan and Imran say.

We are giving him thousands of dollars just to sit there and listen to Imran and Ehsan Mani.

He has himself to blame to listen idiot Mani and IK. He should oppose the decision of appointing Misbah and Waqar and appoint qualified coaches. Our team performance would have improved a bit rather than downhill under Misbah where Micky left us.

I am certain you are smart enough to know what I am implying here. However, I will still oblige.

The innovation is not the issue. The issue is that the innovation was dumped after just one year and more importantly, after just one person in the job.

How did Wasim Khan arrive at the conclusion that the dual role system was a flop after just one person on the job?

What sort of experiment is discarded after just one sample?

I am also sure that you are not naive enough to believe that the dual role was disbanded because Wasim Khan feels it didn’t work rather than the fact that Wasim Khan did not have the courage to remove Misbah as head coach.

Wasim Khan cannot and will not answer the following questions:

(1) why was Misbah removed as selector and retained as coach? Why wasn’t it the other way around?

In other words, what credentials did PCB see in Misbah the coach that they failed to see in Misbah the selector?

What were the good things he did as coach and the bad things he did as selector?

(2) how come PCB arrived at the conclusion that the dual system cannot work after just one sample?

Why didn’t they remove Misbah altogether and appoint a new person in the dual role and see how he fares?

Why didn’t they entertain the possibility that perhaps Misbah was the reason the dual role system did not work rather than the faults within the system?

I could go on and on.

The revamped domestic cricket structure has in fact very little to do with Wasim Khan and pretty much everything to do with PM Imran Khan who provided the framework.

Imran Khan has been talking about disbanding departmental cricket and reducing the no of FC sides for decades. Thus, as soon as he became the PM, he made sure that his vision for domestic cricket was implemented.

As far as hosting entire PSL and Test cricket in Pakistan are concerned, we need to understand that if it was not for PCB’s good work during the 2015-2018 period, Wasim Khan today would not be in a position where they could host Test cricket and full PSL in Pakistan.

It has nothing to do with his ‘networking skills’ and everything to do with the fact that he is in the right place at the right time and capitalizing on the work and momentum of Sethi and Shahryar Khan.

Convincing teams to tour Pakistan today is much easier than it was 5-6 years back when the scars of the Sri Lankan attack were still fresh, mass terrorist activities were still common and the cricketing world in general had no faith in PCB to provide adequate security.

Those baby steps that PCB took starting with to the Zimbabwe series in 2015, the West Indies and Sri Lankan tours, the World XI tour, the handful of PSL games etc. have now put PCB in a position where they can host Test matches and also convince big teams like England etc. because they now have something to fall back on.

Wasim Khan with all his ‘networking skills’ would not have been able to do jack about hosting Test cricket, hosting full PSL and the likes of England back in 2015-16, and he would also be forced to pay the likes of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe extra money to convince them to tour.

Furthermore, the SuperSport deal is also happening largely because of the belief that Pakistan will now play its home matches in Pakistan.

As far as getting the likes of Faisal Iqbal, Yousuf and Razzaq into the coaching mix, what is the evidence that they are actually good coaches? Besides, all three of them are renowned trouble-makers with documented behavioral problems.

Why didn’t they entertain the possibility that perhaps Misbah was the reason the dual role system did not work rather than the faults within the system?

1. Two reasons. First. Because Misbah has received excellent reviews as coach from the players, while the selection policy has been horrid from the beginning. Second. It is extremely turbulent for the team environment to remove two positions at once, the head coach position especially.

2. How do you know they have arrived to this conclusion? It is clear they believe the combination does not work with Misbah as selector. Your flawed assumption and premise forgets to consider that they might be retaining him temporarily longer in the team as coach in the interest of stability, as opposed to making the affirmation that he is a good coach. But even as far as that goes, coming out of the England tour, all players gave a lot of credit to Misbah for the way he managed so many personnel.

So back to the original point. What’s your problem with innovation? And why is it wrong to course correct when certain aspects of the plan don’t work out? You sound like a PMLN supporter speaking about U-Turns... oh wait...

1. Two reasons. First. Because Misbah has received excellent reviews as coach from the players, while the selection policy has been horrid from the beginning. Second. It is extremely turbulent for the team environment to remove two positions at once, the head coach position especially.

Pakistani players are bunch of mediocre losers who are ranked 7th in Tests and 6th in ODIs. Their comfort-level with a particular coach is not a good enough justification by any means to keep that coach in job.

You can have a poor coach and a poor set of players and they will go along well with each other and the players will provide excellent reviews. That however does not mean that this mediocrity should be allowed to continue because the team spirit is high amongst defeats.

A coach is supposed to be evaluated based on results and not appraisal provided by failed players. If this is how Wasim Khan operates and decides to keep or sack a coach then he is clearly not up to the task.

The opinion of non-performing players should be the last factor to determine the future of a coach.

2. How do you know they have arrived to this conclusion? It is clear they believe the combination does not work with Misbah as selector.

Because they have disbanded the dual role after only one person on job. How can you possibly know if the system is the problem or the person when you only try one person?

You go through 4-5 different people in the dual role and then you assess how the system works. Again, you cannot have an experiment with only one sample.

You give examples of lightbulb and iPhone. When Edison patented the first commercial lightbulb in 1879, he had to try numerous times before he finally succeeded.

If Edison was Wasim Khan, he would have been abandoned the innovation after just one experiment and concluded that it was not a good idea.

When Steve Jobs started to explore the idea of the iPhone in the early 2000s, many people within Apple were skeptical about the concept because they were not convinced with the idea of a touchscreen phone without a stylus.

If Wasim Khan was Steve Jobs, he would have abandoned the idea after the first worker at Apple would have rejected the concept.

You have mentioned stability and turbulence. What instability and turbulence would take place if Misbah is removed as coach? Would Babar resign as captain and stop scoring runs? Would Rizwan forget how to keep? Would Shaheen forget how to bowl?

Would we start losing matches left, right and centre since we are winning so much under Misbah?

Pakistani players who gave credit to Misbah after the England tour bolted a winning position in the first Test with the most brainless display and expected a royal thrashing in the third Test because of rain.

Moreover, they couldn’t even win the T20 series against a significantly depleted England side without 4-5 key players.

How is their opinion relevant? It is not. As I said earlier, you can have a loser team and a loser coach who have each others backs because they get along well. That does not mean that they should be allowed to continue with their mediocre ways.

You talk about stability as of Pakistan is performing well and if Misbah is sacked they will suddenly start losing.

Our results under Misbah have been absolutely terrible and we have even lost matches (T20s vs Sri Lankan reserves at home) that we used to win with ease in the past, even though Misbah has had the luxury to pick his own team and make his own combinations with a free hand.

Do you really think he deserves to continue as coach based on the results that he has produced?

So back to the original point. What’s your problem with innovation? And why is it wrong to course correct when certain aspects of the plan don’t work out? You sound like a PMLN supporter speaking about U-Turns... oh wait...

I have no problem with innovation and I have no problem with taking U-turns either. However, there should be some logic and rationale behind taking U-turns.

The way Wasim Khan has thrashed the dual role after trying only 1 person in the seat is completely illogical and irrational, because there is no way to tell if Misbah was the problem or the system.

If he would have tried 4-5 people in this dual role and then taken a U-turn, I would have had no reservations because it would have been a decision based on logic and reason.

If I sound like a PMLN supporter then you sound like a PTI supporter who blindly defends his leaders with no logic.

The problem is, at the PCB like other organisations - while the cats are away the mice will play.

He has to be in Pakistan to do the job properly.

Partly!!! But he appointed Misbah and Waqar means destroyed some of our future young players' career. Appointed of them has done more damage than some goodwork. Also appointed a no brainer Razzaq and a fraud F Iqbal will not help us improving our domestic cricket structure.

I don't see anyone saying that every decision he has made has been the right one.

True!!! But appointment of Misbah, Waqar, F Iqbal, Razzaq, Nadim Khan will worse our cricket more than where it was 1 year ago.
All those coaches have love for oldies and they will ignore, destroy or prolong promising cricketers' career. If we have lack of talent and destroy what we have than we have ourselves to blame for crying no talent in the domestic.

My experience has shown that those who oppose change generally dislike change as it doesnt benefit them.

Thank God for Wasim.

Exactly Misbah is another one of them from that disliking change league. If he continue with a PCB job then another Inti, Iqbal, Ilyas on the cards.

I really hope Wasim Khan stays.

I am actually quite hopeful and expect him to renew his contract. I would like him to stay for 10 years to be honest.

News like this is disheartening. But I hope Wasim Khan can recognize that Pakistan is a complicated country. It doesn’t matter if a vocal minority are being critical. He should ignore them and not take this stuff to heart. He is a British-Pakistani. He has every right to be there, just like any other Pakistani.

But the news is disheartening because, no matter how much we like, we will not be able to silence everyone who speaks like this. Wasim should not worry about this stuff because it is meaningless. And if he is sincere about loving Pakistan cricket — I assume he has loved Pakistan cricket from childhood — then he has a duty to stay and help it become a world dominating force. He has been given the capability and the unique perspective in this situation to bring through big changes and he has a duty to make use of those abilities to take Pakistan cricket, which he loves as much as I do, to its deserved place in world cricket over the next ten years.

The man is a human being and a husband, father first. If his family is refusing to live and settle in Pakistan, it is perfectly understandable for him to want to put them first and move back to the UK.

Yes, absolutely. I don’t blame him or anything if he decides to leave. But I do think it is an opportunity to see the wood from the trees. The abuse from a vocal minority must be stressful. And I have no idea what they go through day to day, and whether it is more than a small minority and a general attitude towards him and his accent..

But if it is just because of these guys on youtube shouting rubbish, he should just ignore that and look at the bigger picture. I am sure he is really enjoying his job. He has had a lot of success and made huge changes. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, absolutely. And he should see it through. And I think he will, inshallah.

But, as I say, I don’t really know what is going on behind closed doors. From the ludicrous news in this thread — Wasim Akram may be the next head of PCB. If that happens, I would agree with WK that he should absolutely get out of there! But hopefully this is a far fetched rumour.

So just going on this statement about a ‘vocal minority’, in which case, he should ignore it in the media and keep away from these people.

But I agree, if his family cannot adjust, I would understand him leaving after 5 years. If he leaves at the end of his current term, I would think it was premature and unwise. Also a little bad from a professional standpoint because he would’ve left things half done after making so many changes.

WK must also be watching the political situation as well. He did state the main reasons why he wanted to work in the PCB was IKs election victory and Ehsan Manis appointment as the PCB chairman

I really hope he stays.

The personal abuse, where Wasim is made to feel like an outsider just because he was born in England, is just utterly unacceptable. Anyone associated with the PCB handing our personal abuse to others, including to Wasim, should be marched out the door with all ties to them cut.

As for the other bitter former players handing out abuse, well they should be ashamed of themselves.

No one is perfect and it is impossible to please everyone. Wasim is however thoroughly professional and his motivation is the betterment of Pakistani cricket and not to line his pockets like most of our last administrators.

Be in no doubt that a massive part of our improved relations with cricket boards around the world is Wasim's relationships with them. Do you think England would seriously be considering a tour if some joker was running the board? It's the professionalism and goodwill generated by Wasim that is getting us back to our rightful place as a cricketing giant of the world.

He should be sacked for appointing an incompetent coach like Misbah.

Don't come back if the best you can do is appoint shameless Misbah as czar of cricket.

What's the use of shiny new domestic structure if Misbah only has to select his buddies?

Days like today will probably make him think whet the hell he is doing in Pakistan.

1 blunder he made will live with him for the rest of his life but he has done many positives for Pakistan cricket

Wasim Khan is a gift that keeps on giving. The sooner he leaves the better it will be for Pakistan cricket.

His stupid decision to publicly state that NZ government has warned us that they will send us home if we don’t mend our ways has caused unprecedented humiliation for Pakistan cricket.

It is the latest low for Pakistan cricket and perhaps the biggest one in a very, very long time. The whole cricket world is now laughing at us because Wasim Khan failed to be smart with his words in the media.

He has once again proved why he is the most incompetent and clueless administrator PCB have had in a very long time. We were told that he is a loss to ECB - I would say that ECB must thank their lucky stars that they got rid of him managed to dump him on PCB.

Absolute PR disaster-class by him.

He did NOT publicly state that.

Try and do some research. Its embarrassing when coming from a seasoned poster like yourself and spreads misinformation.

Wasim Khan should sent a legal defemation notice to Mr Mamoon who will not relent with his badniyat character assassination attempts because he is just butt hurt that his corrupt masters are not going to come back into power.

Wasim Khan has demonstrated weak and spineless leadership throughout this fiasco.

The players/management failed to adhere to the guidelines. Leadership is not just about establishing guidelines; you also have to make sure the players follow the guidelines as well.

He sent weak voice messages to the team WhatsApp group and someone leaked those messages when they should have stayed within the team.

Looks like PCB will not follow it up and the people who leaked the messages will not face any repercussions. Looks it will be water under the bridge.

Now Wasim is sitting with his hands folded hoping that the players do not break the rules and are not booted out.

Right now, there is basically no difference between him and us, except that he is the only getting paid a handsome salary to manage the chaotic world of Pakistan cricket.

Running Pakistan cricket is clearly beyond his capacity and he is out of his depth. We demand his resignation with immediate effect, or at least the contract extension offer should be off the table.

What difference would there be in Wasim Khan and Najam Sethi, who also sought legal counsel before taking BCCI to court :)))

It’ll be a coup for PAK cricket if he indeed commits for another three years, which will keep him till 2026, enough time to complete the implementation of the transition. However, Mani is too old and needs to be removed- a nice & capable guy but so was my old man till his late 60s.... now at 75, he calls me thrice a day if there is any issue to be discussed and we repeat the same conversation as if it’s first time .......

May be this Multan Sultan’s guy Ali Tareen as PCB chairman and WK as the CEO for 3-4 years term.

Conflict of interest? Otherwise I think actually a very good and innovative choice

good pick

Ali Tareen as CEO will cause huge furor and political backlash. He is son of Jahangir Tareen former PTI senior leader and right hand man of IK who was sidelined from the party and government because of his involvement in creating a cartel of sugar producers and manipulating the prices to make huge profits.

After sidelining the dad and then appointing son as PCB CEO will lead to IK being criticized like no tomorrow in the media.

Being the CEO of a family franchise because it’s “Papa ki dream” for 20-30 days of cricket and being the chairman of the PCB 365 days a year are two very different propositions.

You need season diplomats with statesmen qualities for this job, not a young man who is enjoying his business, Cricket and the perks of being a rich young man on the side.

Obviously, PCB chairman must have to leave his other associations with cricket or any role/position that directly or even indirectly can cut paths. In South Asia, these sort of appointments often create controversies because often wrong or incompetent people are picked for high profile positions, for which they don’t have any passion or neither interest to put hard work. Tareen is young, well educated, seems to be keen on cricket and he must have enough political contacts to keep PCB free from external pressure, allowing CEO & his directors work freely. PCB chairman is not/shouldn’t be a functional role for day to day running operations, rather a father figure who would work at policy level, and keep good ties with sports ministry, senate & media. I know about his father’s political issues (the guy was born in Comilla!!!), but every individual is a separate entity - it’s not fair either to judge Ali Tareen for his dad.

What credentials does Ali Tareen have?

He is in his mid 20’s and his only achievement is that his father is filthy rich.

After suffering a “bud tareen” embarrassment in politics, he jumped into cricket and started flaunting his dad’s money.

PCB has been a chaotic mess since Imran Khan decided to uphold his personal grudge and replaced Sethi with a lethargic and outdated person like Mani and a clueless and incompetent failure Wasim Khan.

Wasim Khan is getting paid for making one blunder after the other, and I don’t even what Ehsan Mani does these days apart from drinking tea with biscuits in his office.

PCB is total shambles these days and someone needs to hold them accountable. Everyone in Pakistan cricket is accountable these days except Wasim Khan.

In spite of the complete lack of check on his performance and the free reign that he has to goof up over and over again, he does not have the heart to carry on and will leave soon because he has a thin skin and cannot cope with the criticism that is part and parcel of his job.

If he thought he would be welcomed with a red carpet and treated like royalty during his time here because he did a big favor on Pakistan cricket by leaving ECB, he thought wrong.

Mani needs to be replaced by an active, energetic man with good contacts. Meanwhile, Wasim Khan’s role should go to someone local who will not have the opportunity to flee the country when the going gets tough.

I think whatsappgate was a deliberate leak by PCB.

The aim being to tell the world we've reminded the players of their responsibilities.

Relax Mamoon - I didn’t know that he is in his mid 20s, my hunch was in his mid to late 30s at least - in that case it’s definitely too early.

Ali Tareen’s name came to mind because his profile fits the bill. Young, educated & politically connected - interested in cricket as well. Contacts and connections are name of the game - even US cabinet is almost hand picked ...... in that regard, you can also say that journalist Nazam Sethi was picked as PCB Chairman as a reward for engineering vote rigging - what prior credentials did he had? To be successful in such roles, you need political connections and being rich isn’t a disqualification either.

Who else then? Surely not half educated former cricket greats - Ijaz Butt at least had an university degree, yet, you know....... and people like Wasim Akram shouldn’t be even allowed to PCB office matters. May be the former Finance Minister guy who was forced out by IMF, extremely capable guy, but it’s too low for him or may be a retired general - surely, Mani is not the guy for next term and it’s a hand picked position, Imran can pick anyone but I hope it’s someone better than what Misbah is doing with PAK team.
