Ok carry on believing what you want, the game has changed from Sehwag, Inzi and Boon and "etc etc". Sehwag was once in a generation cricketer who had a great eye and look what happened to him once he lost it, his body couldn't cope up. If someone is not capable of turning ones into twos and twos into threes, the there is no place for him in Kohli's team. It is as simple as that. Discipline, attitude, temperament is what he wants IMO.

And why is that not needed for bowlers?Don't tell me Mishra is picked for his temperament and discipline
 
Pant named captain of Delhi team for India's premier list A tournament, Vijay Hazare Trophy. Team includes Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra and Ishant Sharma.

God. That requires some motivation. These kind of things turn you from boys into men. Kohli did something similar and that was vital in his selection. Best of luck to Pant! Hope he shows how talented he seems to be!
 
Not only that, during the cremation, his hands and legs caught some fire and he had some burns on his hands and legs, man how I wished he was on winning side, the devastated look says it all in the end, felt he got emotional.
 
What a knock for DD today - 97 in 42 balls including 9 sixes some of which were close to 100m. Kid has got power, guts and the ability ...
 
Yeh the guy was beasting tody. He 's built quite well as well - reminds of a young Yuvi . Only 19 years old - quite a good prospect
 
Time for MSD to move aside. He knows it. But still he is clinging on to his place.

and Secondly. the young kids have quite a bit more time before they can replace Dhoni. stop rushing them
 
Small boundaries but fantastic striking. Read almost all variations out of hands too.
 
Should have played a couple of games in ODIs to get used to the wickets

That was an A grade hack innings. Head was all over the place while trying to slog. Still early days but its' hilarious that people thought he is Dhoni's successor.

He should first try to become Parthiv Patel's successor then think about Dhoni.
 
That was an extremely poor innings. He was swinging his bat to the leg side blindly. He should be given more chances in this series just to see if he can be any good against an international team. Definitely showed his inexperience. Hopefully he learned from Dhawan today that you don’t have to go after every ball to score at 200.

Samson is busy building a cricket academy:)). Pant managed to outshine Samson in the last IPL. But Samson plays with a much straighter bat than this overexcited guy. But I don’t think even he is good enough yet to be a part of this Indian batting lineup.
 
he was trying too hard today ..trying to hit six every ball .. no doubt poor innings today

we cant judge by couple of T20 innings ( 2nd or 3rs innings) ...Pant avgs over 53 in first class cricket u cant hack with 50 plus avg

he had a good ranji season but lack consistency and lack temperament. he'll come to Indian team as a specialist bat most likely, his keeping not up-to the mark.
 
Rishabh Pant is a certified hack from Shahid Afridi academy of cricket.

But at least Afridi had his bowling to fall back on & then played a match winning innings once in a while.

Putting Pant in the same lines of Afridi is an insult to Afridi! Afridi can singlehandedly win games for his team when he's in his zone. Pant belongs to Binny category. Lil brother of Pandya I must say. Pandya atleast connects few balls!
 
Looked totally out of touch out there. Couldn't even line up the spinners. Was late on almost every shot. And that indicates that he is reading the bowlers late. I suspect a mental/confidence issue. He is almost the opposite batsman in domestics. He finds it too easy to bash the bowlers of every kind and loses his wicket to overambitious shots.
 
This guy should be persisted with in T20I cricket, and slowly shifted to Test cricket as well, as a WK batsman.

I am not sure till when Dhoni is gonna keep on playing T20I cricket? Has he mistimed his T20I retirement? In ODI cricket, Dhoni must be persisted with till the 2019 WC though, deserves it, as no other worthy replacement on the cards yet. Pant's list A record ain't good.

His two T20I innings have been painful to watch. He can't hit, he can't get out. He looks like a slogger who can connect full tosses and over pitched balls. Here you are hoping for him to play tests!!!

I can sympathise with that sentiment. Mentioning Inzi in the same sentence with Sachin also felt a bit similar.

But, he has got an impressive FC average.
 
I've seen him in the IPL.

People have been mentioning good things about him.

Wasn't that impressed by him in the IPL. However he has time on his hands to improve and hopefully get selected on subsequent tours.

He is playing like a headless chicken. Swinging the bat hard at everything without much foot movment. I am okay with lack of feet movement if he is able to connect and time well like Sharjeel.

So far, Pant looks like he is not ready for big boys cricket. Lack of match awareness and trying to hit every ball out of the park is idiotic.

This could be his last series that he will play for India if he does not sort out his temperament and game awareness issues soon.

India needs a replacement for MSD in T20's. If not Pant then someone else. May be Ishan Kishan.

We don't want MSD to score 25 ball 27 run innings anymore. If you cannot hit big, then you are not good enough as a finisher.

MSD should play ODI's until India finds a suitable replacement for him.
 
I guess they will bring in KL Rahul instead of this hack. Why India ignores Rahul is beyond me. He failed in a few games but he clearly is the one for the future. He did well in T20s before and it was surprising to see him not make the playing 11 here
 
That Shubhman guy should succeed in IPL so he could be fast-tracked into the team. Also, another fast bowler should succeed and India should find a replacement at the earliest- now that Shami looks unlikely to play for India again, sadly going the Amit Mishra way

With Shami fighting legal battles, the vacant spot will be available for 2019 wc. I don’t want to see Ishant or Unadkat or Thakur in the squad. Hoping for Nagarkoti or Mavi to have a breakout IPL season. These guys have pace and the accuracy to succeed.

Shuvman and Pruthvi are both great talents. Shubman is more attacking than Pruthvi.

This IPL season will decide a lot for India.

So far for me, Rahane, Pandey, Jadhav, Karthik, Iyer have all failed to seal a spot in the LOI squad.

2 middle order spots and 1 fast bowling spot is up for the grabs. Let’s see which new face can sea the deal.
 
Pant is as raw as he is promising - very. Will need time but I think India have a real good one for the future in this bloke, certainly more than a "hack" but not a Dhoni successor, stylistically speaking. Let him get some experience and I'd rather see him than Jadhav in that lower order.

Yes. For the first time in the Indian bowling history, India had a great attack (touch wood) and then Shami incident happened. Anyway, life goes on. Hopefully that Nagarkoti or Mavi guys should come good. I am actually thinking that Mavi should be successful. More because I think Mavi is an allrounder. In the WC, one guy who takes 2-50/55 and Scores 20-25 in 10-12 balls is crucial, along with that Pandya guy. Nagarkoti should be reserved for t20s if he comes good, as he has a high risk of burnout as I think he is an express bowler and still looks lean but packs a punch as he has age now.

Both Mavi and Nagarkoti claim to be all rounders.

Khaleel Ahmed is better. Playing for India B against Karnataka he took 3 wickets. Nagarkotti or Mavi won't be fast tracked into Indian team. Also we need a left arm pacer for variety. Khaleel should be picked for the LOI's in England.

A bit off-topic, but who is the best young upcoming batsman according to Indian pp’ers? Is it Rishab Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Sarfraz Khan Subnam Gill or any other batsmen?

So Pant who has performed in long format of the game doesn't have temperament because he hasn't been upto the mark in T20. But Samson who's been an utter failure in Ranji and shows little evidence that he can cope with moving ball has it in him because he slogged a few?
 
Always looks in hurry, tries too hard and give away his wicket. I like his fearlessness but he needs to develop a mentality to score big.
Also I don't see any flair in his batting always seems to try over hit the ball.
Delhi daredevils should open with him rather than wasting him in the middle order.
 
Ishan Kishan seems to be a much better hitter.

Not sure how good a keeper Ishan is, but at the moment both Samson and Ishan are looking like much better batsman than Pant.

One of Ishan, Pant and Samson have to be the backup keeper for MSD in WC 2019. Secretly hoping that MSD gets injured.

Pant should maybe stick to domestic long format then. I've been watching him since Nidahas. He tries to hit every ball out of the park, gets out of shape when trying to hit and can't rotate. These are the qualities of an A grade hack.
 
Can't see what's the hype around him. His foot movement is non-existent, he doesn't keep his head straight and he literally doesn't know how to manipulate the field. Ishan isn't much different. Tries to hit everything and both keep slogging every ball.

Samson on the other hand is pure gold. He oozes batting talent. All his runs have been of pure cricketing shots.

You should perhaps calm down about career advice to Pant. If you were as harsh to yourself as you are being to pant, you wouldn't be taking out your frustrations on a 20 year old batsman who's still finding his feet. Yes, he's still not there technically but no reason to dismiss him out of hand yet.
 
Pant's FC record isn't significantly superior to Sanju's.
Pant has 1500 odd runs in 20 games at 53.xx with 4 tons
Sanju has 2700 runs in 38 games at 38.xx with 9 tons (6-7 of these are away A games).

Basically Pant had one great Ranji season a couple of years ago. He scored almost 20% of his runs(308) in a single inns on a dead track where the opposition posted 635/2 with one batsman scoring 350 and another 250. It is extremely likely his numbers will regress soon towards Sanju's mean as he plays higher level cricket and bowlers stop feeding his hack zone.

Personally, I believe both have potential. Samson has a more organised game and will always be a better bet against quality pace and bounce. Pant is a better whacker of trundlers and spinners.
 
He is mindless hack...should be no where Indian X1...

Samson should be our next keeper post 2019 WC. He is a proper bat.
 
Looks terrible on the international scene so far but yet again he's hitting some great shots vs domestic bowlers.
 
Good knock but his propensity to lose shape when going big reminds me of Raina. He's got to keep developing both in terms of technique and temperament.

Has to work on his Wicketkeeping skills a bit and I'm sure he will come good. He looks like a hard working Cricketer and should stick with him. I'm done seeing the likes of Saha and Karthik huffing and puffing to score runs aganist quality oppositions. Dhoni should be a relieved man now seeing the emergance of talented Pant. Hope Indian Cricket management gives him the opporunities to play against WI at home and AUS. I'm surprised how did selectors didn't choose Pant for Asia Cup.

The guy reminds me a lot of Suresh Raina. Same hitting technique, areas and batting stance. I wonder if he has the same vulnerability to the short ball.
