Is this a joke? Why is Jadeja at 5, especially after an injury?

ROhit survives twice in 3 deliveries..

Is it his lucky day or just that he didnt fullfill his 40 run quota yet?

Jadeja is batting at 5 to negate Hatley. Thats the only reason I see.

Just one run more to reach 40. Then the countdown to Rohit's dismissal will begin.

tick-tock-tick-tock

Debutants don't get to bat higher in Indian cricket unless someone is a specialist opener.

Patidar batted below Iyer in last game.

Also, Jadeja is experienced and a left hand right hand pair helps.

Jadeja is coming from injury so I hope they take care of his workload and not bowl him a lot. He should play this game as a batsman and a 5th bowling option.

At lunch, India is 93/3. Do you like this score? I guess they lost 2 more wickets than they would have wanted to.

England's session.

I dont trust Rohit to last long. If he crosses 60 I may begin to believe

Jadeja has done well to survive till lunch. Can he survive till tea?

I want to watch Sarfaraz bat. He has a FC average of almost 70. I hope he does well on debut

These guys like Rajat Patidar may not get another chance to don national colors if regulars come back.

So poor of him to miss out on such a golden opportunity.

Looks like a player with a very bad temperament.

The shots he got out to in both the tests were absolutely atrocious.

So all those tall scores scored at a rapid pace in domestic cricket were meaningless then? Hope he proves me wrong in the second dig.

final assessment - how is the pitch ? Fancy draw being in contention in this game ?

Looks flat to me. No chance of draw considering India's weakest batting line-up in decades.

Just tuning in. Jadeja is batting ahead of Sarfraz and the keeper

Any reason for this?

Captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja continue to build a solid partnership. 72 runs so far.

Some very emotional scenes were witnessed when Sarfaraz was given his test cap. His father got really emotional.

Sarfaraz should not let this chance go abegging.

point is , if this pitch becomes even better for batting on day 2 & 3 as commies suggesting , we might be looking at big 2nd & 3rd innings runs . As such IND looking good for over 330 now .

I had the same gripe when I saw him come out to bat, but Jadeja has done well to justify the decision.

1. To shield debutants Sarfaraz and Jurel after the other debutant Rajat failed.
2. Left -right combo.
3. To blunt Hartley who was bowling well.

No way.

3/123 can so easily become 6/150 in no time as we have so many times in this era of ultra weak Indian batting.

I was going to say the exact same thing. India can collapse at any time.

apart from the 2 pacers , not much to be said about English bowling ! 130/3 in 38

Jadeja is a top player isn't he. I heard the commentary team mention he has a triple at this ground.

Fantastic batting so far.

100 partnership up between these 2. This has become so rare during last few years, unthinkable even a decade back.

1st of this series for us. When was the last time we took 2+ tests to score our first 100 partnership in a home series?

Such a big gap on the leg side. Such a temptation to go for the sweep.

Fantastic batting so far.
a site rated him the most impactful Test player of this millenium or something.

Not sure if anybody knows about it but Rohit is soon going to overtake Viru in tests.

Most sixes for India in Tests

91 - Virender Sehwag
79* - Rohit Sharma
78 - MS Dhoni
69 - Sachin Tendulkar
61 - Kapil Dev

Standing ovation from me for jadeja :hasan2

Was sent in at No.5, He has batted undefeated for 68* until tea and now India is in the driving seat.

After losing 3 wickets in the first session, India dominated the 2nd session with skipper Rohit Sharma nearing a century.
India will be happy to see the score of 185/3.

Yep. India is in total control atm but things can change quickly in he 3rd session.

-----------------------

Sir Alastair Cook, speaking on TNT Sports:

"They played with great control and great determination.

"Rohit is a guy out of runs, but he doesn't look like a guy out of form. He is so hungry and desperate to make a contribution.

"England, for all their efforts, have done pretty well. They haven't chopped and changed the bowling quite as much as we're used to.

"It was a session that, day one in India, you have to understand you don't get four or five wickets."

Rohit has completed his century as the 3rd session starts now. Brilliant inning from the skipper.

They are 195/3 with overs still left. Hitman on 105.

Hope you understood my point now. Even jadeja can score a hundred on a first day Rajkot pitch
Jadeja not tail ender he improve really well in last three four years and this is his home ground he do well in this ground. Yes its a flat pitch gill and jaiswal miss opportunity

Just noticed this. Sarfaraz Khan has an FC average of 65.5 in 45 games - much better than the overrated Gill.

Why has he been on the bench for so long?

If Sarfraz Khan’s test career takes off we can expect a “Which Sarfraz was the better keeper batsman” discussion soon…

There does seem to be always something wrong for the poor lad

I remember he was suspended for age fudging (he broke through at age 12 or something) before being eventually reinstated
Broke through sensationally for Mumbai but then lost form and of course couldn't get picked because Mumbai had a powerpacked Middle order with the likes of Suryakumar and Rahane batting in his position.
He moved to UP (I think) to get chances but was desperately unhappy and out of form there
Moved back to Mumbai and had to forgo a year (?) to regain eligibility
Now the last year or two have been sensational but there's been constant muttering about him being out of shape and unfit (he does look a little rounded)

He's here now. Hopefully, makes the best of it.
