What's new

Rohit Sharma's six hitting prowess continues to impress

It would be a very prestigious and classy record to have.

He can. Someone needs to remind that though. It will help having another 5 ODI series against his favourite Sri Lanka at home.

Pakistan seems to be his favourite now. His last three innings against Pak - 52, 111*, 140 :hasan2

Hitman is going strong

Should take this record by the time he retires

No reason why he should not.

That record should belong to a champion batsmen not someone like Afridi.

Saw a stat that his average as an opener is now almost 10 points above the next player (Alma) with a qualification of minimum 175 innings.

351 is still a long way to go, he has the best chance of anyone to break it but will be difficult

Rohit Sharma needs to play atleast 100 more ODI's to go near Afridi's mark.

This record is going to be hitman's very soon. Since Oct 2013, when he went out as opener against Australia, he has played 111 matches & hot 201 sixes. At the max, it'll probably take him max 80/85 matches to hit the remaining 120 sixes. By 2022, I see him as the holder of this record.

Since 2013 he has been at another level as a batsman.

It took time for a lot of people to realise but he’s slowly but substantially made himself a giant of the game

Rohit Sharma has now hit the most sixes in T20Is

Rohit Sharma has surpassed Gayle's tally of 105 sixes in T20Is.

Top 3 six hitters in T20Is
Rohit - 107
Gayle - 105
Guptill - 103

:gayle

Spot on. He could not go past five balls in an innings in the Ashes, but watch him score century before lunch in the upcoming home season.

The only opener this decade who did well away as well as home was Cook. Almost all else are HTB, Rohit is no exception.

He's hit 13 sixes in this test

That's a world record now

No one has ever hit more sixes in a test match

:wow:

I think Rohit would struggle on juicy pitches. He is only effective on flat pitches. I am referring to Test format here.

this is a fair statement. he sucks outside india. Still a good player but yes I would never choose him for india outside india. Play Shaw.

I dont think Shaw will ever play for India again, well atleast not in the next 3-4 years. Shaw was strategically taken out of the Indian team by certain individuals.. Including his 'setup' suspension for allegedly taking a banned drug, which was cough syrup over the counter.. Sad really, because Shaw would have been the next SRT imo, Kohli wanting his good friend Sharma in the team has seen the end of Shaw for the time being..

Always a pleasure to see him in full flow. Easily the most aesthetically pleasing batsman of his times. I prefer his six hitting ability to someone like de Villiers because he doesn’t rely on circus shots.

What about Chris Gayle?

Rohit Sharma already has a number of major milestones under his belt and he will be on the verge of adding another record to his already illustrious career when he steps out on the field in the 1st T20I against West Indies on Friday. The 32-year-old needs just one six to join elite 400-sixes club in international cricket. In the process, he will also become the first Indian to achieve this brilliant milestone. So far, the only two players to cross the milestone are former Pakistan batsman Shahid Afridi (476 sixes) and West Indies international Chris Gayle (534 sixes).

Earlier in the week, Australia opener David Warner, who scored a brilliant 335 against Pakistan, said Rohit Sharma can surpass West Indies legend Brian Lara’s record 400 not out in a Test match.

“Yeah, look, I think it’s about the person himself. We’ve got long boundaries, it is quite difficult at times. When fatigue sets in, it’s very hard to try hard and throw your hands at it,” Warner told ‘Fox Sports’.

“At the end, I tried to run twos to lift the ante because I couldn’t actually think like I could clear the ropes. I think, one day, if I’ve to name a player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma. Definitely,” he added.

Considered one of the best batsmen in ODI cricket, Rohit couldn’t achieve much success in Tests initially but he made a successful comeback to the longest format when he was included as an opener for the three-match series against South Africa. As an opener in his first Test, Rohit scored twin-centuries against South Africa and was eventually named the Man of the Series.

Yeah right. Take your tin foil theories somewhere else. He made a mistake and he had started to hang out more with a shiv sena MLA. In fact he does not live with his father and started living out in this mla guys flat in mumbai and developed some attitude issues. But he is being sorted out now by Kohli and shastri. He will make a comeback as a better player. Even Kohli was going bit astray in his teens but he was sorted out. Indian culture takes care of its talented players. But if someone is continually on self destruct mode aka Sreesanth no one can help them

Your info is incorrect. Shaw moved to the MLA’s House near Bandra when he was 10 years old since his school and club were in bändra. His dad lived in Navi Mumbai and was this too much for him to commute everyday.

The attitude and the doping are new developments since his recent success over the past 1 year.

Thank you, didn't knew that.
Shaw is originally from Bihar and lived half of his life in Shiv Sena MLA's house. The same Shiv Sena who are against north Indians (especially people from UP and Bihar). How ironic :)

Thread about Sharma. Stick to the topic please

Kahan se laate ho ye theories.

Just two months ago rohit was virats biggest enemy and now suddenly they are best friends.

Rohit Sharma reached the milestone of 400 international sixes across all formats during the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and the West Indies in Mumbai on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma played a lofted shot against Sheldon Cottrell that landed right on the rope to bring up his 400th maximum in the international arena. Rohit became the first Indian to enter the 400 sixes club. Only former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi and West Indies' Chris Gayle have hit more than 400 sixes in international cricket. Gayle, with 534 sixes, holds the record of hitting the maximum number of sixes while Afridi, with 476 sixes, is second on the list.

Rohit has now hit 404 sixes in his international career so far with 232 in ODIs, 52 in Tests and 120 in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most sixes in international cricket in 2019. He tops the charts with 67 sixes and counting.

Rohit held the record for most sixes in 2017 and 2018 as well with 65 and 74, respectively.

The three-match series kicked off in Hyderabad on Friday while Thiruvananthapuram hosted the second T20I on Sunday.

India and the West Indies won a game each making the final game in Mumbai a series decider.

The T20I series will be followed by a three-match One-day International series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced 15-member squads for T20I and ODIs on November 21.

Virat Kohli returned to India's T20I squad after being rested for the series against Bangladesh.

Shikhar Dhawan, who suffered a knee injury during a Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy game, has been ruled out of the T20I and ODI series.

The BCCI named Sanju Samson as Dhawan's replacement for T20Is and Mayank Agarwal for ODIs.

For the West Indies, Kieron Pollard will lead the side in the ODIs as well.

He's broken his own world record for the third time :yk

Most sixes in an international calender year

2019 - 77 (Rohit)
2018 - 74 (Rohit)
2017 - 65 (Rohit)
2015 - 63 (ABD)

Dhoni's decision to send Rohit as an opener in 2013 has proved to be an absolute master-stroke.

He is without the shadow of a doubt the best opener of this generation, and will end up only behind Tendulkar in the list of the greatest ODI openers ever.

how many of those were in small stadiums like in vizag?
I think ABD hit many in bigger grounds. That needs to be factored in. his 6 hitting prowess is a bit overrated compared to ABD.

First of all most of Rohit's sixes are gigantic sixes. Second of all South African grounds, boundaries are very short too. ABDV is not really known for gigantic sixes.

iN 2015 He hit 16 sixes in this match. Wanderers. high Altitude ground. short side boundaries. Ball simply travels.

Oh ok. fair enough. So rohit truly is a savage. One of the odi greats but I still don't rate him as a test player. Until I see him perform in England, new zeland and australia (in tests) I will never consider him as a complete player.

There is not a ground in the world Hitman can't smash sixes in .

Have seen him smack big sixes in aus grounds as well. Btw SA grounds are short too and ABD isn't alot known for huge sixes.

Most guys try to roll the wrists and pull the ball as they don't want to get out pulling or hooking. But Rohit is confident of putting it over the fence. That is one reason why he has many sixes. Not that he can't drive the ball for six. He is equally good at it.

The best puller of the ball I have seen since Ponting. Might even be better than him because Ponting mostly pulled for fours.

He is by far the best player attacker of shirt pitch bowling।।

Anything shirt and slightly leggish gets to tinker for six

Just 5 overs into the chase and Hitman has already hit to breath taking sixes

And against Starc and Cummins

:aag

Gayle is still hitting sixes and pulling ahead: 476 Afridi, Gayle 534.

DUNEDIN: New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill on Thursday broke India opener Rohit Sharma's record of most sixes in the shortest format of the game when he whacked eight maximums to announce his return to form. Going through a lean patch, Guptill slammed a whirlwind 97 off just 50 balls to steer New Zealand to 219 runs in the allotted 20 overs against Australia in the second T20I.

Guptill whacked eight sixes and six fours during his sensational knock to leapfrog Rohit's record of most sixes in T20Is. Guptill now has 132 while Rohit has 127 sixes under his belt in the shortest format of the game.

England skipper Eoin Morgan (113), New Zealand batsman Colin Munro (107), and West Indies stalwart Chris Gayle (105) are the other three batsmen to have more than 100 sixes in T20Is.

In reply to New Zealand's 219, Australia got off to a good start as the visitors smashed 33 runs from the first three overs. But Southee removed Matthew Wade in the fourth over to put a brake on Australia's chase.

But the visitors continued to bat risk-free and seven overs into the chase, Australia was 64/1 before Sodhi dismissed skipper Finch on the last ball of the eight over.

Finch's dismissal triggered a middle-order collapse which saw Australia losing wickets at regular intervals. The visitors were soon found reeling at 113/6 before Marcus Stoinis and Daniel Sams came out firing on cylinders.

The duo stitched a 92-run stand for the seventh wicket in just 37 balls but New Zealand held their nerve in the final over to prevail.

Rohit Sharma moves past Sanath Jayasuriya to move into 3rd place for most 6s in ODIs. Rohit is at 273 with Chris Gayle in second place at 331 and Shahid Afridi occupying the top spot with 351 6s. Rohit is behind Afridi by 78 and considering he is nearing the end of his career it will need a monstrous effort to breach Afridi.

While impressive the pathetic boundaries are surely helping.

5 indian scores of 200+ by individuals isn't a coincidence

Rohit is the second highest six hitter in SENA if you exclude home teams 90 sixes in 83 innings. Gayle 92 sixes in 87 innings. He doesn't need short boundaries. Also has the highest number of centuries in SENA 13 excluding home teams. He scores a century every 5.53 innings in SENA. 50/100 every 3rd innings.

With today's 6 Rohit Sharma now has 520 6s in international cricket. Gayle is on the top spot with 553. Rohit is just 33 short of Gayle. Looks like Rohit will occupy the top sport by the end of this year.
