Roy Hodgson has stepped down as England manager after the Three Lions crashed out of Euro 2016 in embarrassing fashion with tonight's 2-1 defeat to Iceland in Nice.
Wayne Rooney gave the Three Lions the ideal start courtesy of a fourth-minute penalty but that was as good as it got for Roy Hodgson's side.
Ragnar Sigurdsson replied within a minute and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson added a second when his strike squirmed past Joe Hart and into the net.
With plenty of time left on the clock there was hope, but England faded badly and, once again, came up short against limited but disciplined opposition.
The defeat represents a stark contrast to the perfect qualifying record England achieved en route to the tournament and Hodgson has called time on his spell in charge.
The Croydon-born manager's contract was set to expire at the end of the tournament regardless and FA Chairman Greg Dyke had previously suggested Hodgson's future would be linked to the team's success.
Now the side has fallen at the first knock-out hurdle to lowly opposition Hodgson has decided the time is right for a new man to take the reins and has stood aside with immediate effect and a new coach will attempt to lead England to the 2018 World Cup.
