Ok, How many PPer's go out for good exercise? How many people spend 10-15mins on their vital health?

I must admit i've been poor in look aftering myself, now think of starting running in the Local park.

If you use computers on daily basis then surely you need to look after your health - correct?

It's very important on today's world when we spend most of our times in offices and travel in cars and without excercices our heart becomes weak as well as our joints etc.

Its very very important in today's times. If you play sports, good for you! If you dont, run run run in the park :D

I don't want to live over 60 something - that will be the age I cannot work anymore and don't want to go through aches and health problems or want to get bored
I don't excersise as I don't need to run or lift anything for my living or have a fear of dogs or criminals chasing me. I out run them in my dreams.

But if I live over 60 then I will start walking or doing something as I need something to do.

enjoy your life instead of thinking about being 70+ year old

what do you do with being fit? how does it improve your life? How much is being fit good enough for you? Can you run a marathon maybe it will be useful to catch a fast running run away chicken for dinner. And after running the marathon for 4 hours do you complain about the pain and the people at home say we went to the store and bought a cut up chicken

6 minutes 10 secs is my fastest...currently its like 7:45ish. I gotta bring it down man. PLus I gotta shed inches off my belly which i have gained in last few months due to a lotta studying and less working out. I hate SATS and AP exams!!!

just eat right and eat less. so simple. Running will not do any good if you don't do that. You can only gain inches and 10s of pounds in few months by eating couple of lunches at a time and even if running you have to cut down because you will quit or reduce running but not food. Do the basics

what kind of food u eat ?

normally ate normal crap untill around 3months ago, since then I've been working on cutting down to small 5 meals a day to help increase my metabolism.

Trying to fit a lot of protein into the diet by eating chicken, fish etc to help with the muscle building.

Been working out an hour a day for the past 5 years.. dad, uncle and brother are professional body builders.

Run approx 15km a week + light work out - need that to keep blood sugar and blood pressure in check - recommend it to all hovering around the 40s - its make or break now

to gain weight eat 3 big meals a day.

to lose weight eat 5 small/medium portions throug out the day.

Its all about resetting ur digestive system.. the more u eat the more the body breaks up the food, since it predicts u will keep eating at the same rate in the near future, so it feels it does not need to retain the food as reserves.

If u eat less times a day, ur body will start to keep reserves, and therefore u will get bigger/fatter etc..

Also depending on the quality of food u eat, results in the quality of the reserves that will be stored, ie. Fat, Carb, protein etc

Having a big breakfast, a big lunch, and a smaller evening meal is the way to be healthy.
The human body digests MORE in the mornings, when u wake up and by about 6-7pm the body is shutting down so no more CARBS after this time or it will become Fat and unhealthy.

Fats like olive oil, fish oils, omega oils are good fats that are also needed to burn off fat, so make sure u have good intake of Fish and other oily foods.

Quoted from http://www.muslimhealthnetwork.org/islamandhealth.shtml

Health is indeed a favour that we take for granted.
We should express gratitude to God for bestowing us with health, and we should try are up most to look after it.
God has entrusted us with our bodies for a predestined period of time.
He will hold us to account on how we looked after and utilised our bodies and good health

It has been narrated that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

"No one will be allowed to move from his position on the Day of Judgement until he has been asked how he spent his life, how he used his knowledge, how he earnt and spent his money and in what pursuits he used his health"

The preservation of this blessing can only be achieved through taking good care of one’s health and taking every measure to maintain and enhance it. With this in mind every Muslim should make sure they undertake all necessary actions which are conducive to the preservation of good health. Healthy living is part and parcel of Islam, introduced with the inception of Islam more than 14 centuries ago. Furthermore, the Quran and the Sunnah outline the teachings that show every Muslim how to protect his health and live life in a state of purity. Numerous examples in Islam instruct its followers to live a healthy life...

'No human being has ever filled a container worse than his own stomach. The son of Adam needs no more than a few morsels of food to keep up his strength, doing so he should consider that a third of his stomach is for food, a third for drink and a third for breathing’

Ibn Maja

THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER HADITH which says something along the lines of...
On judgement day, IFF two humans are side by side... and have the SAME knowledge of islam.. the next factor taken into account is the HEALTH status of the body!

So YES, looking after ur body and health and trying to live as LONG as u can is seen as a GOOD thing in Islam.. and is a requirement! ie. good to have so u can earn extra good deeds to balance your bad deeds.

Starting Running, please advice

have decided to start running and my goal is to run at least 5-10 miles per week as of now.

I am looking for suggestions, should I start running on treadmill, concrete or grass?

My goal is to run 15 miles per week (3*5) by Christmas. The goal is to create stamina and lost some fat.

Also please recommend me some resource to methodical way of taking this goal.

Thanks,

Don't run on an empty stomach

Have good trainers to avoid injuries

Have good music

Dnt be put off by rain as running is the rain is cool, nice.
I run around 5 miles each day.

Man outdoor running compared to the treadmill is difficult.

Man outdoor running compared to the treadmill is difficult.

Funnily enough, I find it the opposite. On a treadmill I always feel like I'm either ahead of the belt's pace or behind it which is detrimental to my running style. When I'm outdoors I'm in complete control.

I run about 20km a week - treadmill is better for the knees in the long run as the pounding your body gets on a hard surface is not good

Treadmills are softer to run on but obviously a little boring - u need a tv or music to run with

If weather isn't a problem then alternate between treadmill and outside

Also conside skipping as that's less stressful on knees and ankles in the long run as the weight of the body is borne by 2 knees together as opposed to 1 knee when running - this is important if you are overweight

Also remember running is not the ONLY answer to losing weight, just a big piece in the puzzle - watch ur diet

Running is the most efficient wayu to lose weight - all other forms of exercise such as cyclling, nordictrack machines etc take much longer to consume same amount of kcals

Both my parents, though in their late 40s have been dogged down by health problems. Both are diabetic and suffer from BP - they are a little overweight but not obese.. And to avoid ending up like them, I've been trying to do regular treadmill since age 13 (I'm 18 now)..

Previously, I had a lot of time on my hands, I could brisk-walk 5 kms everyday without fail.. But now studies have gotten harder, overall I've become busier - I can only manage a maximum of 3-4 kms now, even that 4-5 times a week.

I read somewhere that when exercising may seem tedious and daunting - as some people have asked above - why exercise? I read a very interesting answer to that - while on the surface, light exercise may seem to bear no results whatsoever, but in the long-run, your body would be thanking you for every minute of exercise you've done in your younger years. To lose weight, decent exercise is as important as a healthy diet - but for your overall well-being, nothing beats a decent workout!

I ran an off road 10ker in 52m47s the other week. Distance is something I need to crack on with as I'm running the Brighton marathon next year.

How to gain weight and put muscle on?

I wish to put weight on as I am severely underweight. Any tips and diet advice I need to follow? I want to put on muscle and of course will combine gym work with the diet too. Also, what exercises do you guys suggest if I want to make my biceps bigger and have a six pack?

What you think, you become.

For the next 6 months, you must think of nothing but jacked up men.

Do some exercise too, it helps.

ask ElRaja he will be able to help. He is 6ft 6 and ripped.

Was in a very good shape till 2007, then started career in IT in Bangalore and partying, booze.
Then went to Spain for 2 years, where did some exercising but lot of late nights partying and uneven sleeping hours plus some other non-halal stuff, plus tequilla shots and cigarettes. Weight went upto 89 KGs.

After moving to Australia, got motivated by the fitness and lifestyle of people here.. since past 4 years I have not had a Roti and my favorite Paratha and Butter Chicken... Minimised curry and Indian food..and now back to 72 KG for a 6 ft guy. Virat Kohlis story was also a bit of a motivation.
I go for a run in the morning for 1 hour and for 30 mins walk in the Evening. Alcohol, a few drinks once in while after gap of 2-4 months. Keeping this lifestyle and very happy internally.

diet is the main thing, gym will just compliment it. Eat 2 eggs in the morning and 2 sachets of porridge oats (36g per sachet usually) or about 60 grams of normal oats blended with about a pint of milk. Have this everyday along with your normal lunch dinner etc and you will start seeing results. Consistency is key, at first you will feel bloated but after a whle you will start feeling hungry quicker which will be a good sign as your muscles will be asking for more food automatically.

well i went other way, from being borderline obese (110kg roughly), to 78kg, but i did it in an unhealthy way, dieting and losing muscle along the way, then i hit gym and got to about 86kg. unfortunately lockdown wasnt kind to me and im overweight again.

1. eat three square meals (dont get stressed about exactly what your eating, just as long as you know it isnt pure junk.). work out calories required from caloric calculator online, and add 100 or 150 extra calories a day.

2. drink water regularly, will help u with 3.

3. sleep (aim for 7.5 hours uninterrupted)

you'll start putting on weight in a healthy pace. you can mix and match what u eat and drink, but there is no compromise on 3, if u sleep bad ur hormonal cycles get disrupted and that affects weight, muscle retention, etc a lot.

force yourself to do this for 3 to 4 weeks. by six weeks you should notice it become habitual, once that happens you can think about gymming to a schedule, and more advanced dietry plans.
