Sabbir Rahman - A Virat Kohli in the making?

He gets in the news for the wrong and haram reasons. He was in an ad with a Bangladeshi model (who is known as a bad lady) and was fined by BCB. Doesn't know how to handle fame. Money spoiled him. Not focusing on cricket and his mind is elsewhere. Also, don't think he's talented and skillful enough to bat at 3, 3 belongs to Anamul Haque Bijoy or Liton Superstar Das
 
He has only five 50s in his whole career of 37 innings with best of 65.He can play good shots though.But not good enough to bat at 3 he should bat at 5 or 6
 
Sabbir reminds me of Kohli: Lyon

Sabbir Rahman is only eight Tests old, but he has been paid a grand compliment by Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon after the two starred on the first day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Australia at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Lyon. Australia's second-most successful spinner after the legendary Shane Warne, took five of the six wickets to fall as Bangladesh finished on 253 for six. He helped bring Bangladesh down to 117 for five, setting the stage for a 105-run sixth wicket partnership between Sabbir and Mushfiqur Rahim, which the former dominated with a stroke-filled 66.

"He’s a good player, he reminds me of Virat Kohli and that's a good role model to have in the subcontinent," Lyon said after the day's play. "That’s his persona out there, the way he walks around the crease and the shots he has played. We find that he doesn’t really want to defend, he wants to take the game on so that is brave cricket."

Lyon was effusive in praise of Sabbir, who became the spinner's fifth victim when he overbalanced after trying to pull a stray one down the leg side and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade pulled off a smart stumping. The third umpire ruled that Sabbir's feet were marginally outside.

"He played some nice shots. He was lucky here and there, but you need a bit of luck in cricket. I had some luck today with the stumping, and it wasn’t the best ball that I ever bowled in Test cricket," Lyon said. "At the end of the day, it’s luck and you have to go out there and enjoy the game of cricket. He’s a good cricketer, we’re definitely paying him a lot of respect, that’s for sure."

He lacks technical skills and mindset. A lot of similarity between the two but Sabbir has stroke play like Kohli the skills of Maxwell and the temperament of Umar Akmal
 
Kohli is a choker, as they say in this forum. so better describe Sabbir Rahman as a Fakhar Zamaan in the making.

Fakhar Zaman isn't established yet in his team.Just played one tournament. Need to see whether he is a one series wonder or not.Sabbir has established himself in Bangladesh team.So no way to say Fakhar in the making. Sabbir has to play some match winning innings before being compared to guys like Rohit, Maxwell.But with Kohli!!!! No way.Kohli is already an ODI legend.

Comparing Sabbir with Kohli is same as people have compared in the past Darren Bravo with Lara

both Sabbir and Bravo may have similar batting style but can never achieve what Kohli and Lara have

i just hope Fakhar don,t "established" like sabbir who is averaging in late 20s in two formats instead fakhar

should aim around 35 average which he can get easily .sabbir is lucky to be playing in BD team i don,t think he

would played that many matches if he was playing for NZ,SA,PAK ,IND,AUS
 
Comparing apple with Oranges here. The likelihood of this ever happening is statistically almost impossible.
 
Aesthetically the best batsman ever for Bangladesh in tests. But just doesn't have temperament and too many technical flaws. Sarkar also is in the same category. Their best batsmen struggle to find a place in other test nations. That's the kind of quality Bangladesh is churning out despite Cricket being as popular over there as in India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka. It's astonishing that Afghanistan has already produced two world class players, Rashid and Nabi, who are the most sough-after players for franchises around the world whereas no Bangladesh player ever attracted any club except Shakib. Such a shame!

Comparing Afghanistan with Bangladesh is like Apple with tomato. Bangladesh has at least 4-5 world class players. Tamim, Sakib, Mustafiz, Miraz, Mominul. Rashid and Nabi is not even close to these players calibre

Sakib is the only world class player in the list of Bangladeshi players who can find place in the playing XI of other teams.

Rashid is a world class player. I think he can find a place in most playing XIs, including Indian playing XI.
 
But Kohli is a joke ( according to PP posters). He chokes in finals and has done nothing notable. His centuries are just on dead wickets. Why compare him to Kohli?

Sabbir is talented kid and should look to form his own identity. Its encouraging when you get compared to best batsman going around, but he should take it as an inspiration and continue to work to improve just like Kohli did.

If fame gets in to head then it wont be long before we compare him to Kohli wannabe :ahmed:shezzy

That's the biggest problem for a rising talented player in this part of the world.Md Ashraful succumbed to this,so did Shehzad, Akmal though they had different issues.Now Mehdy Hasan Miraz, Mustafiz i think is going in this direction.Their form and quality of bowling has been falling substantially day by day.Whether they are working hard or not i am not sure.But there is something wrong, probably they are not giving 100 percent effort. Sabbir also did an unacceptable act recently and was punished by BCB.

They all can take some lesson from Shakib,who despite all that name,Fame and money still playing at same intensity level for his country.
 
Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon praised Bangladesh’s middle order batsman Sabbir Rahman for his game play against Australia on the opening day of the second test match between host Bangladesh and Australia.




Sabbir Rahman came to bat when Bangladesh was struggling at 117-5 losing their prominent batsmen of test cricket, but he played brilliantly along with skipper Mushfiq ur Rahim to end the Bangladesh’s day at 253-6.


Nathan Lyon delivered compliments for the Bangladeshi batsman for his fighting inns of 66, and said:

“Sabbir played some fine shots. He rode on his luck a bit, but he’s a role model for many. He was brilliant in his approach, and kept attacking us when they were struggling.”


“Sabbir actually reminds me of Virat Kohli as he has similar attacking strategy. I really liked the way he wanted to take the game on. He wasn’t defending much, and batted really well,” Lyon added.
 
I have rated him as the best Bangla batting talent after Ashraful , hope this one has a better ending .
 
Comparisons are stupid at the start of the career for someone.

Kohli is one of the top if not top LOIs players in the world. Just because a guy has talent doesn't mean he's 'the next [enter successful cricketer here]'.

Compare people who have finished their career, not started it.
 
Who even compared sabbir to Kohli. Sabbir is a lower order batsman. Kohli is a top order batsman. Big difference.

Even if he was a top order batsman, he is nowhere near Kohli. If im not wrong, Hathuru did tried him as #3 in ODIs and failed miserably. Lets face it, he is to Kohli what chinese fake Iphone is to Apple Iphone.

Sabbir was a makeshift no.3 because we had too many quality middle order batsmen but no real no.3

Sabbir isn't even like Kohli in terms of style of play. At his best he can be like a Maxwell and not the best batsman of this generation aka kholi
 
At one time everyone was including him in their limited overs Asian XI.

Sometimes you have to wait and see how one's career progresses.
 
Talk like a duck, walk like a duck doesn't necessarily make you a duck. The bloke has pretty big shoes to fill up. Let him build some history and maybe we can revisit this in say..a year, or maybe two
 
Seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry is the next Virat Kohli these days.
 
The Akmal v Kohli thread atleast made sense at the time, this is just on another level of absurd.
 
I like this guy, a good timer of the ball and plays some unconventional shots. But his very inconsistent and lacks temperament.
 
I was going through his performances of late and was gobsmacked at the level of mediocrity in his career thus far...

I wouldn't know precisely but I remember someone posted about this up-and-coming kid named Kohli, and I checked his career back then. I think he already amassed something like a dozen hundreds in first-class cricket. His average even then was pretty high.
 
I knew he was avg player but i went on to confirm his stats after checking this thread and WHAT I SEE? :ishant :ishant
 
Kohli's more professional outside of cricket than the majority of cricketers out there. Sabbir just sounds and reads like an absolute plonker.
 
I have seen bits of Sabbir and he does look fearless and should be persisted with. I have a feeling he has not been handled properly. Has himself to blame though
 
As someone on this thread rightly said, he has the technique of Kohli and the temperament of Umar Akmal. Players like him rarely make it in this game but then again Bangladesh aren't exactly spoilt for options. Plus I think he assaulted a fan and threatened some on Twitter recently, which constitutes as serious attitude issues
 
He does not have the technique of Kohli, for goodness sake :))

Having a similar style to Kohli doesn't mean he has the same technique :facepalm:
