No doubt that Trump handles criticism and conflict embarrassingly badly and in a manner that is considerably below his great office. He tries to turn every public dispute into a playground scrap. It will be the same puerile nonsense as usual in next year’s presidential race.

Playing the ball and not the man for a moment - in isolation Trump is right to call out Sadiq Khan in regards to the knife crime epidemic in London, which is a social phenomenon that has spiralled tragically out of control, and Sadiq has comprehensively failed in his leadership to deal with it.
 
Trump is a baby and a stain on the office of POTUS.

Sadiq has no control over Met Police budgets which were cut and cut by the Tories. That’s why knife crime is out of control.

The decline in police numbers is a contributing factor to knife crime. It is not a coincidence. Khan as Mayor is not responsible for the number of police on the streets of London.

James I see this comment a lot especially from conservative media and right wing pundits on Twitter that Sadiq Khan is responsible for the knife crime “epidemic” in London.
There was a big knife crime problem when Boris was mayor but did the right wing show the same outrage when he was mayor for 8 years ? You know the answer, the reactions are not even comparable.

As Mayor, does Khan have some responsibility to get solutions to the problem ? Absolutely ! But people need to be fair and measured in their responses. There is no magic solution to resolve it, it will take a multi prolonged approach to contain it.

Yes contain, because you will never stop violence completely. People need to be realistic in their expectations.
 
I would suggest to Donald that HE sorts out the mass gun violence in America.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called Donald Trump a "poster boy for racists" after the US President hit out at him over London's knife crime.

Mr Trump retweeted a post from right-wing commentator Katie Hopkins blaming the violence on "Khan's Londonistan".

Her comments came after four people were killed in a spate of shootings and stabbings in London over three days.

Foreign Secretary and Tory leadership candidate Jeremy Hunt said he "150% agreed" with Mr Trump.

Speaking in central London on Monday, Mr Khan said: "It's remarkable that you've got the president of the USA amplifying the tweets of a far-right activist, amplifying a racist tweet.

"That's one of my concerns about Donald Trump - he's now seen as a poster boy for racists around the world, whether you're a racist in this country, whether you're a racist in Hungary, a racist in Italy, or a racist in France."

The original post by Ms Hopkins called the capital "Stab-City", alongside screenshots of BBC News articles detailing the violence.

But a number of people pointed out the much higher homicide rates in US cities.

Mr Hunt said Mr Trump had his "own style", but he backed the president's stance on Mr Khan.

"We have a Mayor of London who has completely failed to tackle knife crime and has spent more time on politics than the actual business of making Londoners safer and in that I 150% agree with the president," he said while attending a Conservative leadership hustings event.

But Mr Khan said: "We've had four days and four homicides in London, we've seen over the last five years an increase in violent crime across our country and it's not acceptable.

"That's one of the reasons why City Hall, even though there's been massive cuts from central government, have continued to invest in our police."

He added: "There are many good leaders in America facing massive increases in violent crime.

"They have my support to make sure we learn lessons from each other and that we work together to grapple the issue of violent crime taking place in many cities across the Western world."

Another Tory leadership hopeful, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, said President Trump should be more worried about violent crime in the United States.

Mr Javid said: "I think President Trump should stick to domestic policies and I think it is unbecoming of a leader of such a great state to keep trying to interfere in other countries' domestic policies.

"The president is right to be concerned about serious violence, but he should be concerned about the serious violence in his own country where it is more than 10 times higher than it is in the UK."

Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott said she had never heard any previous US President make reference to a London mayor at all.

In the Commons, Ms Abbott said: "It's hard to escape the conclusion that President Trump may be singling out Sadiq Khan because he is of the Muslim faith."

Things changed a few years back and the Met is now under the auspices of the Mayor. Except cases of anti terrorism I believe where the Home Office still has control.

It might have changed but unlike in America, he doesn't have the control over the appointment of the Met commissioner nor the size of the budget.
 
At least Trump is recognising his limits, if Khan was an American he might have been told to go back home and fix the rotten country he came from.
 
Meanwhile, amidst all the right-wing noise about "Khan's Londonistan" and "the stone cold loser" the real data appears to have slipped under the right-wing anti-Khan radar.

Crime figures for 2018/19 were published last week. Serious knife crime rose by 8% nationwide. The greatest rises were in - wait for it - rural areas including Suffolk, North Yorkshire, Dwyfed, Kent & Norfolk ranging between 25 - 50% annual rise.

And the rise in Londonistan? 1%. That is NOT a typo.

Now, if only POTUS could find some way of blaming Sadiq for the rise in Suffolk!

Bit rich coming from the President of a country where school shootings and gun violence are a regular occurrence. London, even at its worst, is a far safer city than most metropolitan cities in US.

The number of refugee admissions fell by 70 percent.

Not paying taxes can not be compared to the handouts people are asking for illegal immigrants.. he didnt steal that money, he used a loop hole to save his hard earned cash. And im sure if you were making money at that level you would do the samething.

Trump did some good things like taking on China. However, he is kind of delusional and an overall indecent human being. He is not fit to be president.

FYI, Trump administration cannot even financially support the first responders to 9/11 after they suffered sever forms of cancer and other illnesses. But hey the economy is great under Trump.

You are too smart to not know that rate of growth data can be meaningless is the starting points are very different.

If you are serious about making this point, then you should provide per capita crime rates. Also, it would be important to know if the rise is due to locals turning to crime or if there has been an increase in crimes due to recently arrived outsiders.

Its a neat trick. Racially abuse people and than tell them to go back to their country because they aren't happy with what's been happening to them.

In US, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes compare to those who are born in America.
