Magician off-spinner Saeed Ajmal on Saturday said he can help all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez correct his bowling stance within a month if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Hafeez approach him.

While talking to DawnNews, Ajmal said that Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed had helped him correct his bowling action after he was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2014.

Earlier this week, the ICC termed Hafeez's bowling action as illegal and he was suspended for the third time in his career.

Ajmal also expressed concern that ICC was "targetting only Pakistani bowlers" and urged the PCB to take notice.

"If the PCB takes some positive steps [to protect the bowlers], I am hopeful that Pakistani bowlers will not be singled out again for their bowling actions."

Ajmal had expressed similar views in an earlier interview with AFP, where he said: “It seems that the process was meant for me and (Mohammad) Hafeez, all other bowlers with questionable actions are still playing."

Ajmal, who announced his retirement earlier this month, dismissed chances of an international farewell match, saying that the PCB should have thought about it earlier.

"I don't want to beg them [PCB]," he said.

In 2016, however, Ajmal had rejected the national cricket body's offer of a "fitting send-off".

“I have no intention to quit one-day or Twenty20 cricket at the moment,” the 38-year-old spinner had told DawnNews at the time. “I have worked really hard to stage a comeback and my performance in the National T20 Cup reflects that.”

The spinner has now announced that he will retire after the National T20 Cup that is currently being played in Rawalpindi.

"“I played good cricket for Pakistan and for the PCB but in the end, I would not even get to play a good match to end my international career,” he lamented.

“These T20 matches are broadcast live so I decided to grab this opportunity to announce my retirement in front of my fans,” he concluded.

It is akin to a thief installing an anti-theft system. Could actually work, but Hafeez is not worth the trouble.

You’ve actually referred to chuckers particularly Ajmal and hafeez as cheats time and time again and this particular time you are calling him a thief. While they may be flawed they did not deliberately mislead and for you to repeat this ad infinitum does not make it any truer. Kaka please take this childish nonsense elsewhere while the rest of us can appreciate somebody who gave his services to Pakistan cricket in its darkest hour with the seal of approval from higher authorities.

Don't compare a Pakistani legend to a thief. Have some shame and respect those who have served the country and delivered results. Take your anti Pakistan sentiments else where.

What legend bro? Any half competent spinner bending their elbow more than 45 degrees will improve his game so much. All these aspects will dramatically improve - line and length, accuracy, revs on the ball, longer range of variation in pace (as bending the elbow will allow you to dart the ball in).

Cant Ajmal just pick up the phone and ring Hafeez and organise to help him. Why does he need to announce it it the media and wait for the PCB to contact him.

It'll take Hafeez five seconds to fix his action. :))

He does it deliberately.

Is there not anybody else more suited to this task who can help out Hafeez? Receiving legal bowling action tips from Saeed Ajmal is like asking Monty Panesar to teach you how to field.

This is hilarious . Pakistani players do not seem to Learn how to leave cricket at some respectable position , not at their lowest ebb.

It's an analogy. I'm not calling Ajmal a thief; I'm simply stating that Ajmal fixing someone else's action is analogous (comparable) to a thief installing an anti-theft system.

I also stated that it could actually work, but Hafeez is not worth the trouble because a) he is not a long-term options and b) he chucks when he wants.

Ajmal has also resorted to his old action in the PSL whenever he has been hammered, which makes him a cheat. Both of them are for that matter.

Firstly let’s be honest. I could go back to any thread on here concerning Saeed and find comments from you calling him a cheat, dishonest etc etc. So don’t try that one. You think he is a dishonest person for having a crooked action.

Secondly hafeez deserves to have his action corrected and return. At various times you have referred to him as a utility player in Asian conditions. He’s only marginally over the 15 degree limit.

Well I am not hiding the fact that both of them are cheats. I have already stated that in my previous post.

Hafeez has been a utility player but now his utility is running out. He did his part in this decade, but now it is time to move on - he is holding the team back. There are younger and better options now. Far greater players have done their job and moved on. Why is Hafeez so indispensable?

This is the third time he has been reported and this cycle is going to continue, and that is because he is a conscious chucker. He knows what he is doing, and his so-called innocence is just a drama. He has found a way to bend the system because the ICC are too soft with their suspensions.

Repeat offenders like him should be banned for multiple years. Watch him pass the test in a few months and then get banned again after a year, which completely derails the team's plans.

He is replaceable as a batsman and he is a poor bowler when he bowls legally. He is a liability at the moment, and needs to be discarded permanently. It is time for PCB to make a firm call and put an end to his nonsense, because the ICC doesn't seem to be capable of doing so.

Ajmal did with is full sleeves. Everyone knows this and a lot of commentators and pundits had brought it up. He was a cheat no 2 ways about it.

As for Hafeez he resorted back to chucking because his remodelled action was less effective. This is also evident from his more recent bowling exploits in comparison when he he just returned to bowling after his ban.

Both are cheats and a disgrace to the sport.

Variously referring to players representing their country as cheats, dishonest thieves is not very mature. These players are living out of a suitcase moving from alien ground to alien ground giving up all other avenues and career paths to represent their country and it’s just not mature or helpful to refer to them as cheats. Life is not so black and white.

How many people turned around and called McGrath and Walsh cheats when it was found that when tested their arms bent more than 5 degrees?

I think we should look a little bit more towards this new biomechanical testing which is shrouded in secrecy. We have a lab yet are unable to utilise it effectively and quick enough to remedy any number of illegal actions. I maintain that it’s hard for a bowler to know himself if his action is crooked by so many degrees. It has taken the new system years to develop and provide 3D analytics to really understand how the body is moving in order to capture illegal actions.

In other words this is a skill and if the pcb want to preserve national assets they need to devote more resources to it otherwise we won’t have any off spinners left on the domestic circuit. We have lost so many bowlers due to illegal actions that one could say the pcb simply have neither the will or resources to invest in correction work at the beginning of a bowlers career

lol at Ajmal teaching Hafeez. Both of them knew what they were doing when they were chucking. Like a poster said above, Hafeez doesn't need teaching. He knows he is chucking.

That'll be like Trump giving a TED-Talk on how to counter anti-bullying and disrespecting women...

Served the country , by illegal means.

If Hafeez had a zilch of dignity and shame as well as respect for Pakistan cricket then he would retire.

Less said about the cheat Ajmal the better. He deceived cricket in general like Hafeez. Chucking is cheating. Wake up sheep.

No it wouldn’t. I don’t think trump has ever been prosecuted for what you mention and come back rehabilitated.

On the other hand Saeed Ajmal was deemed to be clean in 2009 and then found to be illegal and then returned, rehabilitated with a remodelled action and not called again. The fact that he was not as effective is besides the point. He’s a rehabilitated chucker that can perhaps help another chucker. Or Saqlain can but either way I think Hafeez’s bowling career is over.

Goodness me...read between the lines.
