You can't say I'm sticking to the squad and then say Saim Ayub and Sharjeel Khan are in the plans for the WC squad. That's an oxymoron. And something that demonstrates that he does not have the guts to make a decision and stand by it. He is desperate to be accepted by the fans. That's why he changed the squad last time as well.
What I don't get is why you are defending such an obviously contradictory statement?

Irrespective of whether Sharjeel should be picked or not, can Wasim atleast make up his mind for once?. Not too long ago ,he publically said Sharjeel was unfit and would never make the team until he did something about it. From the looks of things, it appears Sharjeel has actually gained more weight. So how does he stand a chance now ?

He clearly hasn't lost those skills as even the most recent clips will show from domestic innings. It's ok if you just want to stay biased.
There can be legitimate gripes about his fitness levels but as far as his skill, I see no decline whatsoever.
If they are in contention, why are they not playing this England series? Utterly useless thinking. Look at England, they are trying everything and everyone.
Do the PCB get paid extra for continually playing Khushdil, Iftikhar? Why not give Babar or Rizwan a rest? Haidar Ali got a couple of innings and he’s out. Why?

Also, there seems to be no accountability on the first XI team announcement on match day.

But what about Rizwan who makes every 3 hour game turn into a 4 hour game because of his constant injury breaks??

I’ll disagree here mate. In 2016, he wasn’t just on point with his usual game, I.e. destroying everything on length through square. He began to regularly show confidence in his off side cover drives. You’ll especially see this when he scored big against Ireland in Malahide. He actually had begun to come on as a batsmen under Mickey. During 2016 and prior, He still struggled whilst being cramped for room on his body. But because he had less of a gait, he could play those balls away and run a single. He was (marginally) a better strike rotater because of his better fitness at the time too. Now in a similar scenario, putting it on his legs means it’s a dot ball. Almost everytime.
There’s a myth that Sharjeel currently gives teams fast starts. He doesn’t, are atleast very irregularly. He’s very much a boundary dot dot dot boundary guy. Thus, whilst his boundary count looks good, his s/r is the same as Rizzy’s (in the 130 region). Further, he doesn’t rotate strike very well, so his partner doesn’t get in early enough. Others have said that he sets the tone, but if the scoreboard isn’t moving quick enough, then what’s the point? This is all without taking into account his fitness issues, where he would struggle to run twos, save boundaries and take pressure catches.
So it’s not bias as much as it is factual evidence. I’d take 2016 Sharjeel in s heartbeat, but 2022 Sharjeel just isn’t the same guy anymore.

No, he is not thinking about breaking the opening pair but saying that an opener can be played in the Middle order or 1 down etc (just like we were using Fakhar Zaman).
By saying he might play Sharjeel is another sign that Shoaib Malik & Imad Wasim are not even being considered.

You can't seriously tell me that Saim Ayub and Sharjeel will make this squad better though.
Fakhar Zaman is the only one that should be in that squad unless they are 100% sure that he will not recover till after the World Cup. And I wouldn't mind it if Usman Qadir was dropped for any half-decent seam-bowling all-rounder. But other than that, I can't think of anyone who would be a better addition to this squad. And I'm not even saying that this is a great squad. But its probably close to the best one we have.

He will do worse. Because he will probably miss 10 balls trying to hit a six (because he can't rotate the strike) and then get bowled or caught trying to smash the ball on the leg side (because he's a leg-side hack).

Sharjeel and Fakhar are different. Sharjeel is a beautiful timer of the ball and uses the pace for his shots. Fakhar on the other hand tries to go too hard at the ball sometimes. Watch and study their batting without hate and malice and you will see I have a point.
Babar loves pace too but he seems to be on the decline recently because of him becoming more and more conservative

Don’t want Sharjeel to be in the need purely based on fixing scandal, let alone from fitness pov. Saim needs a few seasons in domestic cricket and PSL to prove his worth as a consistent match winner. He’s a touch player but he needs a bit of power in his game as well for which doesn’t necessarily need to bulk up. Just need a more fluent bat swing.

Like he did in the PSL? Because this template of batting has been all too common for him in the last two seasons. Sharjeel is far more of a liability than he is any kind of a positive to this team. And this is a 100% unbiased assessment of him as a cricketer. You will have to hide him on the field, you can't trust him when it comes to running between the wickets and you sure as heck can't trust him to deliver for you because he's a leg-side hack with a very limited repertoire of shots and a one-dimensional approach to batting that fails far more than it succeeds.
And all due respect, comparing Sharjeel to Fakhar is just ludicrous.
There are a multitude of differences between Sharjeel and Fakhar. Fakhar is supremely fit, Sharjeel is anything but. Fakhar made the most of the opportunity he was given in a high-pressure ICC tournament that Pakistan seemed destined to be knocked out of, and became a mainstay in the side...Sharjeel threw everything he had away despite having the faith of the coach and the entire national set-up. Fakhar has regularly delivered for Pakistan in high-pressure situations and won us matches, whereas, Sharjeel has done nothing and didn't even have the shame to get in shape or work on his batting after being given a second chance. He has regressed, and regressed considerably.
If you were comparing the Sharjeel of 2016 to Fakhar than I might have been inclined to agree with you. That guy legitimately looked like he was on the way to become one of the most dangerous batters in the world. That's how rapidly he was improving back then. But that was 6 years ago and the player we see today is not even a shadow of that Sharjeel.
Fakhar has been out of form before as well. And he has found ways to come back because he is mentally tough. Arguably one of the most mentally tough players in this side. While Babar is a generational talent who will find ways to score and succeed according to the requirements of this format, just as he has in the past. Because that's how good he is.

Sharjeel of ‘16 was a beast of a batsman. Looked like he was batting on a different planet when we went to Australia.
Sad to hear of how he has regressed back. His story and Asif’s always puts me in a bat mood. Tremendous work put in with talent thrown away just for a quick buck…

He was one of my favorite bats. I backed him in 2013 since his debut when everyone called him a leg side hack. Only the impatient ones didn’t see his potential but we did. And he proved us right back then a few years later.
However situation has changed. No disrespect to him but he’s gained more weight. The innings I’ve seen of him recently, he needed a lot of luck to get going. I’m not sure anymore- and that’s why I said, it pisses me off to see him this way after he was progressing so well. He was making the improvements batting wise that Haris Rauf has made bowling wise.
Please don’t look at criticism as someone having it out for someone else. I don’t know why PP had this black and white thinking.
If you’re really a fan of someone, you call them out when they’re underachieving below their potential, like a best friend would. I’m calling out my bro Sharjeel out of Bhai ki mohabbat.

No they’re probably not better. Definitely not Shan or Khushdil. I’m sure he’ll get his chance if they continue to fail. But he’ll be fighting for opener, most likely as a back up opener if Riz and Bab continue as they are.
I hate bringing players back to play in positions they don’t usually play, especially when it comes to moving down the order.
Umar Akmal was impacted negatively by having to be a slogger at 6 when he had the makings of a true #3-4 bat when he started or a LOI opener even. This is back when had incredibly poor top order options. Stats prove this. Same with Sohaib Maqsood who hit a debut 50 vs SAF in ODIs, 3 fifities in his first 3 matches but then got moved to 6-7. Both Umar and Sohaib suffered in their performance as a result of being demoted and then shuffled around the order like a pack of cards.
Same with Haider. Hit 2 fifities and more than a run a ball 30 before being dropped for no reason. So you’re gonna have to excuse me but I’m gonna continue to back Haider because he was dropped due to no fault of his own- and now due to brain dead management he is low on confidence. Up to him to prove me right or wrong.
So if Sharjeel is to come it should be as opener only, and by the looks of it, it looks near impossible right now the way Babar and Riz are going- regardless of what you think of their approach. Could it better? Yeah for sure, but it’s not bad enough for either to be dropped.
I think demoting down the order is far more challenging than being promoted up the order. Opener is the easiest position in LOIs. You have full license to go all in. Can’t do that more often than not lower down the order where you need to be able to consolidate and play risk free cricket, so it will be limiting to Sharjeel and won’t show his best self.

Haider I won’t say if he’s good or bad yet, need to see more because I see potential in the lad.

He's a joke of a batter. And it boggles my mind how people can even seriously imagine him in a Pakistan shirt.
At the end of the day though, him and guys like Asif only have themselves to blame. Sharjeel's loss doesn't strike me as, as tragic of a loss as Asif, who was legit one of the most gifted, skillful and intelligent bowlers to ever play the game. Because we got Fakhar Zaman not long after. But he definitely could have been a mainstay in the side if he hadn't thrown his career away.
Pakistan need to think outside the box here having a batting lineup of Babar Rizwan followed by Shan Iftikhar and Shadab isn’t going to win high scoring matches against the best teams.
The batsmen and their weaknesses will be well known by teams a few surprise options are needed to win matches and make the finals.
Pakistan are too predictable currently and lacking any unknown factors which can help in T20s having Sharjeel
and a few other aggressive batsmen in the squad will give them a better chance currently I would say we will struggle to make an impact in Australia.
The batsmen and their weaknesses will be well known by teams a few surprise options are needed to win matches and make the finals.

One of these guys has to be in the team for sure, not interested in the same old debate with Babar-Rizwan fan girls that go in endless loops.
It’s clear that both Babar and Rizwan are struggling to get the ball rolling Vs high class bowlers, unlike last year when they were scoring at an acceptable rate.
Babar has to move down at 3. And one of Saim or Sharjeel has to open. Only reason I’m not saying Fakhar is because he’s returning from injury and these two were performing well just few weeks ago. Also because Fakhar right before the injury was nothing to write home about. With all this time off, I’m not sure if that would really help him improve.
