Saim Ayub - International performance watch

Saim's 30 runs innings included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Not bad for a young guy who is a teenager and got selected for the most difficult tour of Australia as his first outing in the red-ball format. Yes, these 20s and 30s are not good enough for test cricket but at least he showed some counter-attacking stuff.

2 sixes and 3 fours and Imam ul Haq still went at a better strike rate than him 😜
But yes, hope to see him succeed, and I would still rather he open than Imam.

Not sure how a 30 runs innings in a Test format can be termed classy , today was the chance for Saim Ayub to grab it with both hands but he failed

Dont forget he is playing his 1st game on Australian soil which is a big ask for a youngster like saim.

so that sort of inning could provide him a bit of kick to get some confidence.

Pakistan have named Saim Ayub in the playing XI for the final Test of the 3-match series against Australia!

Saud shouldn't play I would have replaced him with a 4th pacer in m wasim jnr.

The pace bowling will be a man short without afridi .

A 4th pacer would have balanced the team out better.

Sajid Khan struggled on spinning tracks. Lets see how does in Australia. I have zero expectations.

I have never seen a team give up like PK. Look at the bowling. Unless Australia have a hangover the test is a walkover

Its a very good decision to afford a berth to youngster like Saim in team. IA he would be a 10 times better replacement than Imam.

I just hope that in case Saim fails, that we continue to persist with him for a while.
I'm also looking foward to some fund Saim and Masood partnerships IA

With the inclusion of Saim run rate of pakistan team would be on higher side for sure

lets shope saim will play a long inning on his debut

This guy can be the next big thing in Pakistan cricket and may be in international cricket as well. I really hope that he performs well in his debut test match against Australia. I don't want such a great talent to go wasted and would like to see him play for Pakistan for a long time.

It's not every day you see someone with Saim's style in Pakistan. He might be more suited to white-ball cricket.

He's really gonna be right into the action with Pakistan batting first

I don't think his batting technique allows him to play Test cricket but let's see how he takes up this challenge

In my opinion he is a good T20/ODI batter but if the management tries to mold his batting habits, he might lose his strength.

So it's better to keep him playing white ball cricket for now

There's nothing wrong with his batting technique. He's just an attacking batsman, who'll play more attacking shots than a typical test opener. I think he's an all format player and fits right in to our new style of test batting.

Way to go Pakistan!

Concerted effort to destroy his confidence

First make him play as opener in Australia in a format he is not that suited for
Second put him in the firing line in slips

If there was a book written with title "How to get rid of a young player in quick time".....

This is why you absolutely do not ever have players debut in Tests in Australia. It is such a tough place and a very tough place to open against that bowling attack.

Jamal has debuted in Australia as well and has done well but its a lot different between debuting a player who is 20 versus someone who is in his late 20's. I hope Saim does not let it affect his confidence.

Saim played just 1 domestic season and he got into the side. Yes you should carry such talent with the squad to groom them but playing them on such a difficult tour is somewhat debatable.

Aus is a tough place to debut but SCG is almost like a subcontinental wicket, with the low bounce, low speed and more assistance for spin. If a young Asian batsman or spinner has to debut in SENA, can't think of a softer venue than SCG.

I get bad vibes from Saim. I don't think he is anywhere near as talented as we are making him out to be.

My prediction he will be history by 2026.

Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur and Natarajan says Hi

He thrives against low quality bowling attacks. He was badly exposed against a high quality attack and will continue to fail. He has an added bonus of Butter fingers which is characteristic to and all Pakistan Cricketers. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:  :D (y)

I knew before the tournament started that it would be a disastrous tour for Saim.

Players with massive experience are failing here in Aus so how can you expect a guy who just came onto the scene to do wonders for them?

ufffff, seccond catch dropped by Ayub. Not the best start from him.

Saim Ayub gets of the mark in the his debut match with a boundary. Hope he can perform else this game is done and dusted.

Impressive debut I feel - Done a good job and needs to be persisted with

I don't class this anything other than a shocking debut. The 2 drop catches meant he needed to score 150 to make up for them and have a net positive score.

Saim Ayub is gone for 33 and also wasted a review. It was a straightforward dismissal. He should have done better than that.

ooh plz.

just cause a player looks to be aggressive doesnt make his 33 runs any special. Fact is he got out for 33 runs.

Dont care whether you score test runs defensively or aggressively, you need to score runs. Seen the same logic for Umar Akmal when he came in, where people would say oh he was the best out of the batters only because he would score aggressively. THe guys whole career turned out to be a failiure.

Alot of guys wanted Saim to play here and now he failed in this game.

Vaughan loves some engagement farming with subcontinental fans. Which is not to say he's wrong or anything.

On debut? many things happen but he has shown enough to displace Imam
there could be competition for the opening slot in test if Sahibzada Farhan is able to show his talent. Saim's debut wasn that great, but come NZ series if Farhan shows his talent, we could have 4 player openers fighting for the the no.1 and no.2 spot.

Saim Ayub has disappointed me. There's no excuse for why he failed to perform after showing good form in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023.

What do you say about babar azam series?

What do you say about babar azam series?
Bro, Babar Azam has established himself in the team. He isnt fighting for his spot as of yet, because he has performed in international cricket in the past even if he has 2-3 bad series he can get away with it.

If push comes to shove, Babar would still be the last person in the list. Imam ul haq, Sarfraz, Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique would be the first ones to be dropped. Infact, even though Salman Agha performed, even he would get dropped before Babar Azam.

I am not saying Saim Ayub is a bad player. I infact, tuned into the Pakistani batting first time in this series just to watch this kid. But, i am saying his fans should not hype him up and should stop using lame excuses that oh the ball he got was too good, oh its his first game. He plays bad, admit it he plays bad instead of giving excuses. His fans wanted others to be dropped and Saim be played, but when he doesnt perform, no need for excuses, because than maybe it was better to play the experienced guy against Australia instead of him.

Saim should not had been given a debut here.

Bit flashy from what I saw. Bit like salman butt. Is he a permanent replacement of Imam?
depends upon what is PCB's stance on Abid Ali. If Abid Ali is not gonna be recalled than the opening slot picking order will be Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood and Sahibzada Farhan

Shan will be at 1 down. If Sahibzada performs in limited overs, he would be kept as the third option for the opening slot

Saim Ayub has the potential to end Misbah’s TukTuk culture. Give him 24 test matches including 2 at Rawalpindi and he’ll have more 100’s than Imam at a quicker strike rate.

50/50 debut for him , got saved by the fact that seniors are 35/6 effectively end of the road for Imam

Last night I didn't see anything other than the boundaries, did he look the part?

He's not ready for test cricket. He should look to lock down his place in our T20 and ODI teams first.

For now Abdullah and one of Masood or Imam should be heading the team.

he took on the bowlers, but i felt his defence is abit weak for test cricket.
Without proper defense he will end up averaging around 34-36. Hopefully he will learn quickly. Having lots of shots at this level is a double edged sword.

no one is ready for test cricket in pakistan, shafique is the best opener pak have had in a long time, and even he has glaring technical issues, no matter who it is, any opener will need a minimum of 10 tests to even show their potential because the first class level in Pakistan is so low.

These stuffs ruins career especially Pakistani and Bangladeshi players. It's only a 30 runs innings man, not a hundred!
Vaughan is an active twitterati. Pak fans have already hyped this kid to the moon. Everyone has made a note of it. He is just echoing them rathern than judging on his own. Very little sample to judge him.

I like his mindset and he's going to be a decent batsman over time.

But he does need to build more confidence in T20Is and ODIs before transitioning into Test cricket. Since they barely play Tests, he's going to have enough time to adjust in the coming year anyway.

Looks fine to me and needs to be persisted.

Give him 3 tests 5 odis 5 t20 before passing any judgement.

Former Pakistan captain and coach Misbah-ul-Haq has highlighted a flaw in Saim Ayub's technique. Speaking to a local TV show, he said:

"He displayed excellent temperament, attacking the Australian bowlers during his brief innings. It seems he can assert dominance over the opposition and perform consistently for Pakistan."

"A minor adjustment is necessary in Ayub's technique concerning the fuller deliveries from both pacers and spinners, as his front leg tends to move across slightly, potentially causing issues. His dismissal hints at a similar concern."

Big month this for Saim, test debut and now a 5 game T20 series. He should believe in his instincts and not to listen to any rellu-kattas, players of his kind are what Pakistan cricket needs utmost

Humm. That makes sense. Even I heard that the commentors live were praising him stating that they knew about this lad. This came from the social media hyping.

Should be persisted with, having an aggressive opener in all forms is the way of the modern game.

Hoping they don't get spooked too early and recall 1970s batsman Imam who will refuse to even put the bad balls away

babar needed a rest and he wasnt given that rest and that is the consquence of his poor form.

Excited to see Saim up there - think needs to play out the first 5-6 balls - then tee off.

Exciting batsmen. Pakistan rarely produces modern day batsmen and he is one.

He should be given a longer rope. Keep him in the side for 1 year even if he fails. Domestic se koi player nhi banta.

In fact, he has taken the 2nd most catches in a T20 inning. Great comeback after Aus

G8KBINm.png

Even if he gets out for ducks need to persist with him, love his intent, the type of batsman you need in t20 cricket to open. Was a shame he got a run out was looking so goood

Beautiful batting from Saim today. Have never seen Babar or Rizwan play with even 10% of the skill he showed

The only way I can see his development hindered is if he is stuck under the tutelage of mediocre actors - Rizwan- rather than a visionary mentor - Sarfraz
