Pakistan need to get last 4 wickets quickly here and need to score well in first innings.

Nothing to panic. Easy.
Pakistan needs to bowl Sri lanka out for maximum 375-380.

Then bat for 2 complete sessions and score around 130/ 2 maximum by tonight.

Tomorrow bat all day or atleast 1 hour post tea session & score anothet 240 odd.

That leaves pakistan also on 370 mark.

Day 4, Pak spinners finally come to party, bowl sri lanka out by day 4 end for no more 240.

Sri lanka takes 1st innings lead of 15 + 240 in 2nd innings.

Pakistan to chase 260 on final day.

They can either go for draw or win.

Pakistan should try to restrict them to 400 or less. If they do that, they should be okay.

Naseem with a much needed breakthrough. Gotta get the tail out here as quickly as possible.

I think its a crime continuing with out of form player (Hassan Ali) , its not good with him , it dents confidence of player , he looks completely off.

he is playing based on reputation last 4-5 months , not good for him too.

This pitch has some zip for the pacers especially with the new ball and little but of slow spin. Other than that not much of anything so far.

He bowled well in the last match with figures of 2/23 and 1/19 in the match. Though not getting his usual zip in recent times. Ups and downs in form is part and parcel of the sport but, yes for Hasan it has been a tad longer then expected especially after what he did in his first international season post back injury.

More than the form I am not sure if he is at his optimal fitness where he pushes through the crease.

He pitched well in the Bangladesh Test series. Poor vs Australia but those were horrific pitches. Was fairly decent in the first match vs Sri Lanka.

His T20 matches are clouding his judgement because overall, he has still been fine in Tests.

Naseem has bowled really well in this match so far on a considerably batting friendly wicket by its looks.

All the dismissals other than 3 good balls have been self inflicted wounds. Wellalage’s wicket was pure deception where zip with the new ball was used

Would agree. He doesn't deserve the sack in tests, but I think only Shaheen should be undisputed starter, the others should be made to compete for their spots.

he does not look fit , bowling at the speed of 128-130 does not work on these pitches , in general he is 140+ bowler and he gets reverse swing also.

How the heck is that out but the exact same appeal was not overturned when Shafique was batting in the second innings ??? It is a mirror match ball hitting exactly the same stump and height and was also similarly in line ?????????????????????

Shafique's one was umpire's call.

I guess it is a matter of millimeters.

Lolwut? What's exact same appeal supposed to mean?
That's what we have technology for. To distinguish what the naked eye can't.

Poor tactics. R Mendis is not a top order batter . Should look to get him out as well

Why not continue with Naseem - it’s only a matter of a wicket. Very defensive move bringing Nawaz back on

I agree. Naseem can clean up the tail (like he did in 1st Test).

Spin should be easier for Lankans than pace.

Shafique was given not out and stayed not out, Sri Lankan bat was given not out and over turned to out.

Only similarity was both was identical as far as where it pitched and where the ball would hit the stumps.

How do you know it was identical, unless you have measured it?

I think it was a matter of millimeters. Perhaps 1 millimeter? I don't know.

There's a specific cutoff point that separates umpire's call from hitting.

This is from Cricinfo: "..it should be 3m from the wickets to make it umpires call on impact. The commentary said it was 2.9m".

Looks like it was a matter of 1 unit.

Time for Pak batsmen to pile up some runs and push their averages a bit after seeing off the new ball. You don’t usually get such wickets and opportunities in overseas conditions.

Need to score 450 plus here to get some good advantage. Anything around 300-350 would be advantage Srl.

How correct i was in score prediction.

The openers need to attack at the start like they did last time. That's what set up the game. Otherwise, if we let SL spinners settle, it won't be easy.

lol Goodness me.

I reckon Shafique was very fortunate on that call, the TV umpire on a different day may have ruled it out. I have seen decisions over turned when the ball was hitting just tiny bit below the bails leg stump..

Played for too much swing there - had a bad feeling he was due a failure

I had a feeling Abdullah might score low. He gave it every last ounce in the last test. Pakistan have very few specialist batsmen.

An extra seamer for Srl with new ball would have been handy.

Need another miracle innings from babar. Agha's selection might make us pay badly.

Seems like a different pitch the way SL is bowling. Pressure on the boys

Sri Lanka often get too excited with these reviews. They seem to burn reviews very quickly.

That was a poor review.

We are staring at a mountain of runs. Going to take something special to match it.

I don't rate Imam really but if he produces big runs here, it won't be soft runs.

His bowling speed sums up everything , usually he is 140+ bowler whereas he is bowling these days at speed of 128-130

Srilanka getting both the top batsmen of Pakistan early.

Babar in my opinion should bat at no 4 in tests always like most top batsmen in current era do.

Imam and Rizwan need to produce a good partnership here.

That's why Agha's selection is even worse. Saud would've come at 3.

Fawad should've come ahead of Rizwan too.

He still produces 140ish deliveries in T20s (Had few in last PSL as well) and can sometimes get the pace up in the first spell of ODIs as well however, not at the peak fitness to carry that on in test cricket and upcoming spells.
