Usually they talk about like to like replacements but their unwillingness to play an extra batsmen has cost them

Yes, Azhar should have been replaced with either Shan or Saud to play at no 3. Odd to change the number of your best batsman and captain when he has an outstanding record at no 4 in last few years.
 
Don’t really mind Pakistan falling short of the follow on and batting again. Might be a blessing in disguise if we can somehow get SL to bat again in the 4th innings

Repeating the mistakes of the first test, not learning, playing two batsmen short.
Changing Babar's position just because they're afraid to take on a new batsman.
Are they going to make a habit of this? Playing with two batsmen short?
Test cricket is about specialist batsmen and bowlers and trusting them.
After Misbah and Yunus left they never had the courage to bring in two young batsmen and trust them. Actually, they should have been doing that while Misbah and Younus were still playing. Instead they shuffled around the order. Years later it still feels like they're playing batsmen short because the quality and quantity was never made up.
Dropped Kamran without playing him. Didn't give a chance to Saud this series. Never trained Haider to be an aggressive Test bat.
 
Very tough ask of your wicket keeper to first keep for over 100 overs while the team is bowling and then come in to bat at no 4 around 10 overs mark to play a long innings for your team. Havent seen a test wicket keeper batting in the top 4 in recent times when he is keeping in the same match.
 
Great! I guess Fawad and Rizwan now have to have a 250-run partnership to save them.
Not fair to Rizwan, pushing everyone up.

True. It's too much. Fawad should have been in before him.
 
All 3 have been pretty soft dismissals so far. Nothing much unplayable or beating the bat in this wicket

Lol, this is era of Bazball....better that pak reaches 220-250 in first inns and chases down target in 4th inns against inexperienced Lankan spinners. If top 4 get eye in can easily chase 400+ also
 
I would be really really really surprised if Imam amounts to much as a test opener.

Got in based on Australia pancake series, and apart from that he has done nothing in 15 matches.

Imam making the same mistake made by our batsmen in the first innings of the previous test. That was to play for the spin, here you just need to play the line of the ball. If it spins from within the stumps and takes the off stump, its just a good ball. Even Fawad so far has been chasing the ball
 
Babar Azam chased a wide one outside off and chopped it back onto his stumps, Imam was bowled playing down the wrong line.

Sounds like all 3 gifted their wickets away.

Abdullah I saw getting bowled 2nd ball of the inns very lazy from him prodding to the ball.
 
Poor show by Pakistani batsmen after good start to the day. First Babar made bad bowling change replacing Naseem with Nawaz, who bowled poorly to gift SriLanka vital boundaries, and then top 3 batsmen did not apply themselves as they should early on.
 
Bipolar Pakistan at it again. Shafique going from a 400 ball stay to a 2 ball duck.

SL scored at least 50 too many
 
Didn't have a good feeling about this innings to begin with.
Don't expect anything from Agha.
 
Time for Lankans to cut the cake. Atrocious technique on display from Rizwan. 4 is just too high for him
 
Follow on is on the cards, or probably narrowly escaping it. Think that's worse tbh.

People have somehow started to think Imam is a deserving pick in tests. He is a failed opener in tests as far as performance goes and his ability isn't anything to talk about either.
 
We were never going to win away with these batters you take babz and abdullah away and you have an amateur team.
 
As usual Fawad will have to dig out Pakistan from this dire state, but very difficult task with only a novice batsman on the other end and spinners on top.

Rana is a hit and miss player, who misses more often. Perhaps Pakistan would had better served with Shadab as there are not many good spinners in Pakistan atm, he is able batsman and could price out couple wickets too. Likes of Nauman should be discarded now. Test for Salman also to justify his place, even though better batsmen Saud and Kamran are in squad as well as man in form Shan.
 
30-40 won't cut it here. Need a century from someone.
Don't know if it's better to have a follow on rather than trailing by some 180 runs.

I am referring last 2 test matches , based on bowling speed and rhythm he should not be in team . May be because of fatigue , he needs rest .
 
Your wicketkeeper batsman should not be batting higher than 6.

The combination is somehow worse than the previous game.
 
Back to the same old tuk tuk. Pakistan going no where. Sl batsmen were scoring at well over 3.5 wer as Pakistan are finding it hard to even score at 3 an over
 
I guess getting to 200 would be a big struggle now. Either way Pak will have a huge deficit.
 
Pak cricket has always the lacked the killer instinct. 1-0 up in the series somehow I've always come to expect this kind of performance
 
This fawad Alam is a big fraud.
I m so so happy he didn't get selected sooner.
But now he should be kicked out.
 
Now if we barely cross the follow on mark, SL will pile up 250 more, then we will have 400+ to chase.
Defeat seems inevitable barring a miracle.

Rizwan has been great. Averages 40+ in all 3 SENA countries he has played in. Close to 50 at home. 42 overall. In what universe has he been poor?

Sarfaraz isn't even close to Rizwan as a batsman. Rizwan simply shouldn't be burdened by playing him at Babar's position that's too much.
