Lets get the elephant out of the way.

Any ethical issues can be handled by having strict processes and procedures followed by monitoring by the PCB. Guilty or not, he has served his time.

I also don't believe that he was a top Tier Cricketer or naturally skillful or naturally gifted.

Now back to the topic.

I find his analysis, his insight, his application fascinating and he is someone who is badly needed to teach young Pakistani Cricketers how to de-risk their batting by selecting the right shots. Whether he was able to implement and put together what he knew in his playing days or not) is not important but I think that he is able to impart the right mindset in the young batsmen.

How will the players under his coaching find a reason to respect him?

We need good role models.

I have never seen a Pakistan batsman as good as Salman Butt against length bowling at high speed on and outside off-stump.

And I watched Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad and Inzamam.

You don't need to be an excellent player to be a good Coach. At this time, there are not many locals who can teach young up and coming Batsmen how to have game awareness and how to construct batting, how to evaluate bowlers and bowling.

Batsmen are coming in and mindlessly swinging and trying to slog from ball one to ball n, staying for few deliveries and just swinging wildly and its embarrassing. There are clear deficiencies which need to be addressed.

At a Junior level, you need someone local.

Now I understand the negative stigma and connotations around Salman Butt but so far nobody has questioned his skill set to be able to teach them how to bat. For technical aspects of batting you can have a technical coach but Pakistani youngsters need someone like Salman Butt at the NCA

We all know he was one of those smart kids in the team.. he and youniskhan were handpicked by Woolmer to be the next leaders of the team judging on how shrewd they were with their tactics. Something bad happened inevitably lost Woolmer, Younis going haywire can’t bear the loss of Woolmer , and eventually Butt going after money.

Pakistan would have achieved more under Younis khans captaincy and Butts captaincy had it been gone well.

But him at the NHPC is an overkill, he could join the scouting team looking for talents or help chief selector.

So what? The guy is a crook. He would have betrayed PK for the best part of the decade if he wasnt caught.
