Seems like the Pakistan management really rates him in the slips but he's not really repaying that faith so far. Raval has been dropped twice now and it could be very costly.

Both times his technique has been strange, his hands are far apart and he isn't watching the ball. Doesn't seem to be suited to such a crucial fielding spot.

Any logic for having Sami Aslam in first slip??

There is Younis Khan in 2nd slip,

There is Azhar Ali

There is Asad Shafiq

Why would you keep a novice in there??

Sami has dropped 3 off Amir specficially..

3rd Test vs WI

and now 2 in this 2nd Test Match vs NZ..

And the problem is its poor technique... while you have someone like YK on the other side..

Now Sami is changed, this is reactive captaincy, very poor

Awful, not juts hands were wide apart, he was looking for someone in the spectators while catching it, yes look at his eyes focused to while taking the catch.

Had there been a keeper like De Kock, would have grabbed it, but glad Sarafraz knows his limits, did not go for it.

Footwork poor. Technique awful.

Why is he in the slips.

Forget about standing in slip... He shouldn't be in the team.. Let's see how long can he ride on that fluke innings in england. Terrible batsman and equally terrible fielder..

Babar is a good fielder also why not put him there if we don't have a short leg in place? Pathetic from Sami to drop catches though

No innings is a "fluke". He is the best test opener to debut for Pakistan in the last half decade.

Mind boggling, if you have extra keeper in the side, why not place him in slips, Rizwan made it so simple, everything was right when he took the catch.

Clearly not a slip fielder. Another example of poor player identification from Misbah.

U mean azhar, misbah is not captaining this game.... Not like both are good man managers.. But this is azhars fault.. Infact this clearly shows that they do not know how to identify what skill each player has the coach can only do so much he cant set the field for i

steve rixon needs to be asked some questions. what is he being paid for? cant he tell that aslam doesnt have the skills to be in slip? the captain should know too, but the fieelding coach should be taken to task for it.

Azhar didn't place Sami in the slips, Misbah did. He's on record saying we're trying to make Sami a permanent slip fielder.

Still don't understand what someone like Rizwan was doing at point all day yesterday. At POINT

Alright i didnt know he said that but clearly it shows the level of thinking both have. azhars just a yes man and misbahs been lucky his tenure didnt have many away tours

Both are average captians azhars below.. By keeping sami in the slips it shows azhar doesnt think for himself.

What are they looking at in practise?

Hand-eye, reflexes, mental strength and catching technique. One can judge in practice who's suited for the job and who isn't.

its rixons job to identify fielding positions, strengths and weaknesses and to develop them. its not the captains job to do that when you have a fielding coach. i agree that misbah should still have some input into the decision, but clearly any sensible view of the set up places the blame squarely on rixons shoulder. what the hell else does a fielding coach have to do?

Yes. He has proved that he isn't a slip fielder so he should field somewhere else like Gully, Shoet leg or Point. Our slip fielders should be Azhar Ali, Younus Khan, Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam.

So you want him to stay there and keep dropping catches just so we can see some proactive captaincy?

No my point is surely seniority and common sense should've prevailed.. there are so many 'senior' players and you put a guy barely 3-4 matches old in there.. my point is damage has been done

Seniority doesn't have much to do with it, it's all about skill. New Zealand put Jeet Raval in the slips on debut, Australia put Renshaw in the slips on debut. Sami just doesn't have the skills needed to catch in the slips, it's a blunder by the management

A guy like YK is standing besides you, 100 test match catches was it?? Standing in 2nd slip are you kidding me?

You do know what point is do you?

Point is where tha ball comes the most fast at you. Its where you stand your best fielder in to make full diving effort for the ball

I dont understand people who are going after the coach.

Now i have seen younis khan drop many catches and dolleys at slip aswell. Now according to the posters here we should just simply remove the person from slip who drops.

So we remove sami and younis, then who actually fields at slip then?

1st: Azhar
2nd: Younus
3rd: Shafiq
4th: Babar

Tv replays showing how far apart his hands were, and how his eyes weren't even following the ball towards his hands when he dropped those catches, shows that he basically doesn't have the technique for being a slip catcher, especially at first slip.

What's the point of having specialist fielding coaches if they can't even pick up glaring deficiencies like that? They should have told team management, captain and coach that, as yet, he's not a slip fielder and should not be put there.

I know seniority culture isn't really a good thing. But it's surprising that a 20 year old fields in the slips. Usually the youngest players field in positions like short leg, silly point, etc. Can maybe put him at gully..But even that's a crucial position in places like these.

I apologise for being off topic but I laugh now how everyone last week thought Sami Aslam was a better batsman with more potential than Haseeb Hameed :danny:bumble:boycott:rondu
