Yes, doesn't appear to be quick on his feet, s bit like Fawad Alam. The wide stance doesn't help either.

It's a good opportunity for him to make a mark. At least much better than free wicket of Shan Masood.

Sterling ODI material but don't think he should be a Test selection yet, has not put up the numbers. Still, nothing wrong with seeing what he's made off as long as he gets a fair run. He's performed in big U19 occasions, and this is the next step, simple as that.

I even said he looked technically the most correct batsman in the team, someone who likes to get behind the ball.

Sami Aslam and Babar Azam really show why the NCA and U19 cricket is working and how the coaching done there can produce you a technically correct international batsman if the player has ambitions.

From my initial judgement, this kid has a very good technique and seems to have a very good brain and good judgement. He may not score many runs in the near future, but from a log term perspective, he must be in the team...

He was captain of the u-19 side, seems very mature as a 20 year old.

If the Pakistani management can manage him, in terms of attitude etc... He will come to good... Same goes for players like Baber Azam and Saud etc. The day a Pakistani player crosses over that line (akmal and shehzad) that's when you lose the player forever.

I still believe Shehzad and Umar once had potential to be greats. Fame and lack of maturity killed them totally.

People forget that Aslam was actually given an easy start. He debuted against Bangladesh. Can't coddle him forever, and he clearly has some temperament.

Same here, I thought he was too raw to be thrown in mid-series in England, especially after his struggles last year in Bangladesh.

But this a superbly disciplined knock. Shown the senior pros a thing or two.

Believe me, he has most of the shots and he plays them, but in LO matches. And had he reached his hundred today he would have played more freely. A good head on his shoulders as he knows what the requirements of the longest formats are.

Also im not too worried about the lack of flashy shots, its his first innings and i think he was very resistant to playing any huge booming shots in these conditions. Azhar and Asad were the same in their first few series, the shots came once they were confident of their place in the team.

He will be fine in Australia, he plays late and wait for ball to come at him rather than going at the ball... This is key in Australia, where there is little lateral movement. He also has a very good sense of length, he left very good deliveries at both line and length, another thing important to play in AUS/NZ.

Short ball was not his problem, he was hit by a ball that did not bounce, which rarely happens in Australia. Bounce is generally true there. He is also young and has good reflexes, he was playing under lot of pressure today. This innings will give him and coaching staff lot of confidence...

I think the most important thing about him is that he is a natural opener much like Cook, not fazed by new ball and can leave all day, run singles on soft touches... Fast bowlers have to work hard to get him out as oppose to Hafeez, Shan and Shezad, those guys are walking wicket even after 10 years of international cricket :face palm:

It just shows the PPers who have been backing Hafeez as test opener do not know a single thing about cricket.

All I hear in Pakistani media is how he is our best player bla bla bla bla. No he is not. He is a hack who has had countless chances and dropped many many times only to come back again because of his connections.

He is a no.6 ODI AR at best and he can't even bowl because he is banned. Should be dropped.

Sami is the type of players we need to invest in. I don't care if he doesn't get runs, its a worthwhile investment rather than an incompetent 35 year old desperately trying to keep the paychecks coming through.
