The Hindu/Buddhist empires of Southeast Asia suffered with the decline of the Chola empire. Cultural exchange and trade also suffered. By the end of 15th century, when India was fully conquered by Turks, it was only a matter of time that India was used as a base to further Islam in Southeast Asia. I am actually surprised that Islam could only manage to convert the Islands of Indonesia and Malaysia. With little cultural contact with India after the fall of Chola empire, it was ripe to be taken down. The Muslim missionaries found no opposition there. Those Islands were already pretty plural in nature when it came to religion. Hinduism, Buddhism, Animism and local beliefs were already there. Islam was just another one to enter. But it is unlike any other religion.

Yes but you are the one who said religion should never be raised when it comes to politics, and I was just pointing out that it seems to be the biggest vote card for the BJP.
