Saqlain Mushtaq speaking to the media:

“The current team is based on the best players. Stepping down from their respective roles was a personal decision made by Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis. Saying that they ran away is very wrong. We will have to play aggressive cricket against New Zealand without fearing defeat. We are currently focused on the upcoming series against New Zealand. We will think about the future of coaching later"

“We will try to use examples of Pakistani legends rather than their Indian counterparts in order to boost our performances. The Indian cricket team is playing well and we should learn the good things from their performances. I will take complete responsibility whether the team does well or not. I have previously worked with all the current members of the Pakistan team. As a coach, every assignment is a challenge"

Seems really fired up and rightly should be! This could be his chance to be a perm coach and I do like his never-die attitude. Looking forward to this stint and I hope its successful.

It will be same old story... Problem is not coaching staff, it's the players. Until and unless pakistan doesn't get rid of asif, khushdil, maqsood and other such crap players, this team is destined to fail.

To be honest Pakistan does not have that many great players waiting in the set up.

There needs to be an effort to improve skills of the players.

In any other organization a guy making inappropriate comments on his fellow employee (active female cricketer in this case) would be reprimanded.

PCB has made him a coach and probably given him a pay raise:))

Now yes there are exceptions where some important folk are protected so I am assuming Razzaq must be a world beating coach where some exceptions can be made.

Good luck to him

My fear is that should we win the series against New Zealand second string side, these 2 could become permanent fixtures!

Fauji was a great servant in his playing days but unfortunately not educated & sexist!! actually surprised he got the job after his recent gaffes🤦🏽*♂️ Nevertheless I like Saqi & hope they work good together

It really depends on how this team does in the two series, if they jell and show some chemistry and performances, then Razzaq and Mushtaq will definitely be in the reckoning for permanent roles.

Saqi is a good strategist in terms of bowling plans against the opposition. I hope Shadab learns a few basic things from so he can have a respectable tournament. On paper, our spin base is covered with Shadab(legspin), Imad(SLAO) and Hafeez(Offie), but their form and their roles will be decisive.

Shoaib Akhtar should be the permanent bowling coach and if possible hire Yousuf Yohana as a batting coach. No foreign coach, please. The language, culture, and mindset of Pakistani players are totally different and only Pakistani coaches should be preferred. I mean, there are better senior players than Waqar younis and Misbah.

I think this could be a really good coaching pairing. Razzaq has done well in domestic coaching despite his sometimes stranger behaviour in the media in the past. I wasn't happy with his sexist comments and wouldn't have selected him basis of that, but I'm not sure he would actually do a bad job.

Saqlain has been successful coach in several countries, with a proven record. Not much else to say here.

Both coaches being Pakistani I imagine there will also be less language barrier problem and they will be able to work/be more knowledgeable about Pakistani domestic cricket which will help them. I think this was something that unfortunately disadvantaged Mickey, when I saw him surprised when Irfan was struggling to bowl full overs or umar was unfit, I laughed, to no Pakistani fan who had been watching even international cricket was this a surprise let alone those working with them in domestic. Until the level of English of our cricketers improve and domestic cricket becomes more accessible, I think foreign coaches will always have a handicap unfortunately through no fault of there own. It's a shame really as a lot of better foreign coaches will not be able to get the best out of this Pakistani team as a result even if they are better coaches than our home ones.

This.

No coach could make a Pakistan XI any better than 5th in the world right now.

Maintaining that position (and praying some talent develops within the next 3-5 years) is the best case realistic scenario right now.

Anyone would be an upgrade over Misbah and Waqar. Shouldn't be concerned

Most uneducated and Jahil cricketer, who always talks non-sense has been made the interim coach, ridiculous.

Lahore: Former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq may join Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander in the Pakistan men’s team coaching panel for the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), ARY Sports reported citing sources.

The 44-year-old Saqlain is currently working as interim coach of Green Shirts for the New Zealand series after Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis resigned from their roles last week.

Sources also revealed that PCB will soon make an official announcement of a local coach while they are expected to change the fielding coach, Abdul Majeed, for the T20 World Cup.

PCB is also considering to name National High-Performance Centre’s Wicketkeeping and Fielding Coach Atiq uz Zaman for a role as well.

Meanwhile, PCB has already appointed Drix Simon as the national squad’s strength and conditioning coach.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint Saqlain Mushtaq, Head of International Player Development at the National High Performance Centre, as the head coach for the Men in Green during the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The legendary Pakistan off-spinner, Mushtaq, was also supposed to lead the coaching staff during Pakistan’s home limited-overs series against New Zealand but the tour was abandoned by the Kiwis.

The official announcement of Pakistan’s team management for the mega event will be made after approval from PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja.

It must be noted that former Australian batsman Matthew Hayden and former South Africa pacer Vernon Philander have already been appointed batting and bowling coaching consultants for the national side.

Philander will arrive in Lahore on October 6, while Hayden will join the squad in Dubai as he is currently part of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as an analyst.

Pakistan squad is likely to leave for Dubai, from Lahore, on October 15.

I hope he creates a blend of youngsters and performing older player within a certain bracket age.

Saqlain should ideally be an assistant coach to a foreign coach.

Ian Pont should be approached as a mentor with a proper contract for National Team as well as High performance center.
