Sarfaraz Ahmed - Captaincy Watch

Hasan didn't bowl well in death overs against India and Amir and Junaid were bowling exceptionality well yesterday, so there was no need to give Hasan 10 overs, as for Shadab he wasn't looking penetrating yesterday and could have gone for runs in the end had he bowled more.

To me it was the tactical decision to continue with Junaid & Amir ..both were in good rythm I'm the death & were bowing yorkers after yorker's. In the previous game Hasan Ali went for plenty against India. it was refreshing to see two lefti bowling yorkers regularly with little reverse happening.

A bowler going 2 runs an over (Imad) should definitely complete his quota...

Give him a year and a bit to see if he is any better than the previous captains we've had but he's already 30 and it is quite worrying that the man who is earmarked to become the next Test captain isn't all that tactically astute.

"hath dho kay pechay per gay ho serfraz kay
" hath hola rukhei "
" rato rat insan chand pay nahi puchg jata."

Over reaction. He bowled Hafeez out because spin kept the pressure on and saved a few overs from Imad for later if needed. He had Hassan available to bowl 2 overs if either of Amir or Junaid would get spanked or lose the plot before the 46th over. He played it by the ear and I don't think it was wrong. Although I do think we should have wrapped them up under 210 but Amir's inability to pick up wickets was a factor in that.

on the basis of evidence other than the game against india?

and compared to whom?

Did he not captain in the WI series?

Misbah, Azhar, Afridi etc - by this I mean his record over the forthcoming year.

Right, and what tactical mistakes did he commit in the Windies series? Didn't we win that one?

Do you think Azhar, Misbah and Afridi were better than him tactically?!

Has a very good reputation as a captain and I see him doing a pretty god job most of the time so far.

Which is something I would never have said about Azhar or Misbah.

When did I say that?

I stated that he should be compared with them in terms of win record after a year.

Just because you win a series doesn't mean you have done everything well.

if virat kholi was pakistan team captain he would be facing lots of curses and chants to remove him captain and make muhammad amir captain today

He was never their best tactician anyways. Ajinkaya Rahane is a master tactician but Virat is an inspiring leader.

Yes of course. But I was referring this, by you: "it is quite worrying that the man who is
earmarked to become the next Test captain isn't all that tactically astute."

sarfraz shouldnt be made test captain not because he is a bad captain but because captaining pakistan is not easy especially you are not a favourite player to play for pakistan unlike muhammad amir, ahmed shahzad, azhar ali etc

should rebuild ODI side and improve its ranking and let test headache be sustained by azhar ali

Can someone do his stats vs azhar as captain and misbah and afridi all at the same stage

Sarfaraz has captained in 6 ODIs and won 4 off them. It's too early to start comparing with others, however, he wipes the floor with Azhar Ali already.

Forget stats. He is much superior tactically than all those names

Yeah, there's no comparison there. Misbah and Azhar were comically bad ODI captain's, Afridi wasn't much better but at least he brought some personality and flare

Sarfaraz has already won record consecutive T20's as a captain and we are ranked 2.

He is tactically one of the best in the modern day cricket just needs to be left alone without too much interference from the seniors and coaches.

Come on you clowns you wanted Sarfraz gone after CT, show your faces and have the guts to hold your hands up.

Tactics and bowling changes spot on today.

One of the best captains in the world. Hilarious to see people comparing him to azhar after the game vs India.

Misbah and Azhar fans celebrating. :))

Yup. They were taking advantage of the game vs India when it just wasn't our day. Nowehere to be seen now. They know deep inside that Sarfraz is leagues above them as a captain

Azhar would have had the field spread back right now and would be bowling Imad Wasim

He is the best captain in Pakistan and one of the best in world.
I have said it before that just give good/decent players to Sarfraz and see how he win trophies. Dont even need great players.

Right now Pakistan have few poor players.

Captains have a say in selection.

he will get more confident and trust his decisions more after every game. great captaincy today

Restricting oppositions to score of 220/230 in conditions where 300+ is a par score, restricting the same opposition to 236 who chased 321 against India, but still getting the hate because he is not good looking Afridi and doesn't speak English like Misbah!

Pakistani tujhe salam :p

surprisingly nobody is even appreciating this guy, no appreciation for wicketkeeping, no appreciation for captaincy, no appreciation for batting, just hate all aroud this guy doesnt deserve such hate honestly

Kaptaan. :ik

that was lovely catch . the next one was even better had it not slipped

a guy with no charisma (well as much charisma as imad wasim has in his one toe), no communication skills, no english fluency, no personality, no leadership qualities and who cant be a good captain has taken pakistan to the final of champions trophy 2017 in his only 2nd ODI tournament.

no leadership qualities!!!
sorry ???

Well done champ.
I wasn't convinced at first. That was mainly because he didn't try to bowl out West Indies in T20s and ODIs. Done now.

Good thing is that he has started to act on instincts. Scripts to bin.

Alhumdulilah captaincy was spot on from bowling changes & field settings.

This was awesome.
Sarfraz captained the U-19 team to a win against India in 2006. 11 years later, time to see if he will get to repeat history.

Decent tactician and one of the best leaders

Most definitely best in Pakistan right now

Anyone heard what Aamer Sohail was on about Sarfraz yesterday after the win?

Short leg in an ODI on a flat batting surface to a Leggie vs India: ONLY SARFARAZ!

Oh captain my captain. They will write songs about you long after you are gone! What's captain!! What a captain! This is straight from Imran Khan captaincy coaching manual!

oh bhaia match hi khtm hi..short leg khdaye ab ya long leg...ki fark painda hi....

Excellent captaincy once again today to bring Shadab and Hasan and going for all out attack.

He is the best captain in the world. Period.

Great captaincy played with Dhoni's mind whonis one of the greatest tactician in LOI got a short leg with Sahdab then Hassan Ali attacked him and got him

But but but his "English" and "timid body language".

Some geniuses here wanted him gone after CT.

But he can't speak English....

I know you are being sarcastic. But to those who think English matters, even the best tennis player doesnt speak good English. Dont worry, with time, Sarfaraz will get better; in English, and haircut :djb

Sarfraz has shown in this tournament that he is easily the sharpest individual in the Pakistan team. You can see the change he's brought to the team that was being led by Azhar Ali.

Been amazing. Our best captain since Imran. Wanted to go easy on the Indians by giving them a few overs of spin

Also don't forget spreading the field and bowling spinners part time to let them get back in the game.

Needs to learn to not let the opposition off the hook when on top.

took the sting out of the win... we could hav easily haf em for more than 200 runs defeat.... shld have really gone for the kill

lol so Fakhar bowled 2 overs with India 220 runs behind and India back in the game?

Pandya na ho gya 10 Viv Richards ho gaye.

It was understandable as Imad got injured so Fakhar completed the over and bowled 2.

The only reason I can see for continuing with Shahdab and Fakhar is Sarfraz wanted to give them big game experience, otherwise he had plenty of pace and spin options

Nonetheless, he's the captain we've been waiting for, for over a decade now!

Some people still think he shouldn't be test captain...

Fantastic tournament for him.

Little mistakes here or there are normal for any skipper. He's done brilliantly with this squad.

I will give A-. Why did he stop attacking with fast bowlers? We could bowl them out for far less than 100 and embarrass them even further to leave a bigger scar. Oh well, it all ended well. Over all an excellent leader who will get better.
